Fandom A Chance Meeting at Ilex Forest

The distracting thought absorbs Balaa's attention. She pauses, tilts her head, then takes a breath.

"That happens sometimes, sweetie. You cannot blame yourself for every thing that happens. I said not to harm those you control -- it does not mean they may not be harmed by others. Besides, you had no ill intent -- but perhaps this will help you learn the responsibility you face as a guardian. We must be cautious for those under our command, so as to avoid responsibility for their sorrows."

She wraps the Vulpix up in her tails, sweeping her from the ground.

"Let us return home."

She says nothing, getting the warmth and attention she desired she nuzzles her mom and is glad to have been found.

A while later Balaa settles onto the ground of the cave with Danielle still wrapped up in her tails.

"I should probably make La'ir more careful about watching out for you. He didn't do very well," she says, almost to herself.

Simon has passed out -- he's visible in the small gaps between the tails.

A moment later Balaa connects her mind with Danielle's once more -- only she seems to be trying to take command.

She was spooked by this. "M..Mommy? W..hat are you doing?" She asks

She wasn't prepared at first, and she was pretty torn up, she couldn't resist very hard. "Momm....I...I belong to you."

"You don't have a will of your own. You exist to serve me."

If Danielle could see Balaa's face she would notice the concern at seeing her daughter bend so quickly.

Her eyes looked nearly lifeless. "I don't have a will of my own, I exist only to serve you.." She replied. "Mommy" she added to the end of it.

For the first time since Danielle has entered her life, Balaa looks up and howls. Her anger is matched only by her concern and fear; a veritable storm of emotion passes through her eyes and expressions. Were Danielle not in a trance, she'd see the desperation and frustration amplified a hundred times by the sheer despair in her cry.

She finally stops, exhausted. Her eyes quit flashing. Her head droops. She curls up and falls asleep.

Danielle woke up in mommies tails, the way she loves it, but they seemed colder than normal, still she snuggled into them.
Mommy hypnotized me The thought came down on her like a building. W..Why would she do that? Aunt Malea wasn't right was she?

The rising sun normally precipitates Balaa's awakening, but she does not get up. Instead, she continues to sleep soundly, with her daughter still wrapped up. It's peaceful -- Simon is still sleeping as well.

And yet...Balaa did hypnotize Danielle...

Does...does it still work the other way around?

Is there...something else going on?

Danielle got over the initial panic. Se was probably trying to calm me, or test me.... She convinced herself, though.... She used her bridge to enter mommies mind.

The sleeping Ninetales is surrounded by screens and books and an open journal. She does not stir when Danielle enters -- it's clear she's exhausted. Looking around or through things should be simple -- the journal seems curious enough all on its own.

She looks at the open journal. She wondered if it was recent memory, though made sure not to voice the thought.

A closer look reveals an entry from yesterday.

"My daughter went missing. I found her, thank goodness, and brought her home, but...something was off. I feared she had been hurt, so I ran a mind test. She faltered, then succumbed in seconds. Only days ago she could control my every thought, and now...now I was able to turn her into a slave in seconds -- someone hurt her, or she would have been stronger. She must be stronger -- I cannot bear to lose another family -- when I wake I will train her until she can not only block me, but can control me from miles away -- I will make her capable of controlling any and all who cross her -- so that she will be safe forever."

There's more, but this is what stands out.

She stifled a cry, she had hoped that yesterday was an unfortunate dream, though she knew that was foolish. Does mommy know about Malea?

There's nothing in the journal about Malea. No comment is made at all, actually, about where Danielle was found -- perhaps the fear drove it out of Balaa's head. Nonetheless, with so many books around, it's hard to tell.

If she does know, though -- can she be made to forget?

nonono sHe thought shaking her metaphysical head. i don't want to mess with her head. She thought, Maleas words obviously having affect. She exited mommies mind and waited.

Despite the exit, Balaa remains immobile. She must be truly exhausted. Still...there's no reason Danielle has to stay with her, right? Maybe La'ir is still standing guard.

Her easy breathing should be soothing.

Mommies breathing soothed her some, she was still happy to be with her family. She climbed out eventually and looked for daddy.

By following his aura, Danielle is able to find La'ir standing stock still, guarding the Life Orb like yesterday. Upon seeing Danielle, his eyes widen a bit and he smiles.

"Hello, sweetheart. Did you sleep well?"

"Yeah I did" she said running up too and rubbing against daddy. "How are you?"

"Much better, now that my best friend and second captain is here," he says playfully, swooping her up into his arms and rubbing noses with her. "I heard you had quite an adventure yesterday."

"Well, if you want to talk about it, I like stories. Or we can train some, if you'd prefer. What would you like?"

The earnest smile is reassuring. La'ir is a very attentive Lucario.
