Just wanted to see how many other 90's babies we had here.

Also what shows you watched, could be movies to...

Recently I just got back into XFiles because Netflix was kind enough to have it, and my grandma is kind enough to let me use hers. XP.

So tell me folks, are there any goosebumps fans? Doug fanatics?

Goosebumps were my shit! And I loved all those animes that I didn't realize were animes - Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Digimon, Yu Gi Oh...

I was the same way! I watched Inuyasha without knowing. Yu-Gi-Oh was a big one as well. And we can't forget pokemon.

Does being born in the late 80s (tail end of 1988 here) count? I feel like we'd probably share a lot of the same childhood media experiences. Personally I was a big Nickelodeon kid. If I remember right the cable package my parents paid for didn't have Cartoon Network and it might not have had the Disney channel at first either, though I definitely remember watching the Disney channel some too. I just feel like it wasn't there at first for some reason?? I'm not sure. Memory's all fuzzy there.


My favorite shows were probably the game shows. Double Dare, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Wild and Crazy Kids, Guts, Nick Arcade etc. I think they appealed to me because I could easily imagine being on the show and winning those super cool prizes. My social anxieties hadn't yet developed, haha. I definitely remember Doug too. It wasn't my favorite but I'd still watch it if it was on. I also loved the Power Rangers, at least the very first iteration of it. I do remember wondering why some of the footage in the show during fights and stuff felt different than the rest but I didn't know it was using footage from Japanese Super Sentai series until quite a long time had passed.


I saw a lot of the 90s Disney movies in the theaters as they were coming out. I think Aladdin was actually one of the first movies I saw in a theater, and I had quite a few of them on VHS, plus a few of those direct to video sequels. Those are fun because as a kid I remember them being just as good as the originals but then I look back with an adult's eye and I go 'wow the animation is waaaaay crappier' among other things.


I miss the aesthetic of VHS cases, tbh. Something about the colors and the artwork and them being so big plus the changing design sensibilities between the 90s and today's Blu-ray and DVD stuff. Plus you'd get cool stuff like the Dragon Ball Z video tapes having one side of the spine artwork be the logo and the name of the tape and the other side being part of a scene from the show so if you collected all of that particular storyline you'd have one enormous picture.


I devoured the Goosebumps books too. The school I went to when they first came out actually banned them (it was a Catholic school so they probably saw them as SATAN or something) which I remember being frustrating because I looooved reading in school. I don't have as many memories of the TV show though I think I must have rented a video tape of it at some point.


My dad was a bit of a gamer and it rubbed off on me. We had Nintendo stuff, mostly, though I did get a Sega Genesis at one point. I think it was after the consoles had moved on to the PS1/N64/Saturn generation. Some of my favorite games at the time were probably the Donkey Kong Country series. I was also really fond of RPGs though I didn't have the patience really required for them sometimes. I remember annoying my dad because I'd just keep trying to get into fights rather than explore and talk to NPCs and find treasure. That tapered off as I started to get older though and RPGs are probably still one of my favorite genres.


Towards the late 90s I got swept up in Pokemon fever to an extent that undoubtedly really annoyed my parents. Around then Star Wars came back to the public consciousness in a big way too with the Special Edition releases as well as some big name console games like Shadows of the Empire for the N64. I got into the series as a result and it's still one of my faves today.

I loved the cartoons of the nineties


Batman the Animated Series, Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, Bonkers, Timon & Pumbaa, Spiderman the animated series, Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain, Dexters laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly dog, etc.

@Negative Zone Wow! No I enjoyed reading it and it actually pushed me to add another question to the poll. I barely remember Legends of the Hidden Temple, but Nickelodeon was the shiiiit. I used to watch All That as well, I think that's what it was called. Back when Amanda Bynes first started.


I'm also an avid fan of VHS and was sad to see them replaced by DVD's, or reading through the huge TV guide to try and find when a show was coming on where. My grandma didn't convert to DVD's for awhile since we had such a HUGE VHS collection. We had every disney movies, recorded tv movies, I mean you name it and we probably had it.


Gaming wise we had everything before XBOX. My grandma and my mom were huge gamers so it was never a dull moment in the house. My grandma loved doing the treasure hunting and leveling up but always threw me the controller for big boss battles. Kingdom Heart 1 one took me an embarrassingly long amount of time to complete because Rikku was an ridiculously hard boss.


@Knightling Okay I pretty much watched that whole list! Pinky and the Brain was the shit. Courage is on my top 5 list of favorite TV shows. I was glad when Netflix started adding in the old shows again. Although not all seasons. T.T

I loved All That too, now that you mention the name. I do remember I got a PS1 right after Final Fantasy 8 came out which kind of started this years long trend of getting stuck in RPGs because I had this awful habit of saving over the same file over and over to conserve memory card space and then I'd save in a really bad spot where I couldn't backtrack to level up or get better items or anything, whoops. Many a playthrough died that way and nowadays I'm like, the exact opposite where I have multiple save files just in case something happens.

See my issue wasn't saving over them, my issue was my sister who would go in and save over my file. All that hard work wasted away into nothingness without a second thought. Demon child.


But I love her.


Now I save multiple times. I ran into that problem with Final Fantasy...uhm, 13? The one where they first changed the battle system to that weird menu BS.

I was born in 94. I liked that station Nick gas. It had game shows like Figure it out, Guts, Legends of the hidden temple. Those were my favorite shows but I also liked the rugrats.

@Lokipi: Animorphs is interesting because the concept sounds like it could be really silly but the books were dark as hell for a kid's series. I had a pretty nice collection of those going though I don't think I ever read the series all the way through. I have less memories of the TV show but I must have seen it at one point.


I really loved the covers with the stages of morphing and then the flipbook animations on the pages themselves. I understand Scholastic rereleased the series somewhat recently but the new covers don't have the charm of the originals at all. Looking into it I guess the rerelease got canceled because of low sales which is kind of a bummer, awkward covers or no.

They have a lenticular effect so I assume the cover morphs between the human and animal form depending on the angle you look at it from so it might be a little less awkward in practice, at least?

Hello there! I'm pretty new here but I hope you don't mind me joining in! I couldn't help it since it was all about the 90s! I was born in 86 so I do remember the TV of the 90s quite well actually. While I did watch a few of the 80s cartoons like My Little Pony (The original), Care Bears Strawberry Shortcake and Rainbow Brite ( I certainly had a girly selection there....) I also watched a lot of 90s cartoons and TV shows in general. A lot of what was already spoken here I watched (Although I had a huge obsession with Animaniacs but that didn't happen till the late 90s) But yes, some of my favorites from both Nick and Disney were as follows, Are you Afraid of the Dark?, So Weird, Secret World of Alex Mack, Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, Cardcaptors, Sailor Moon, Goosebumps, Clarissa Explains it all etc.


I even loved shows like Xena, Buffy, Charmed ( Although that was more my teen years..ahaha) but I also loved Boy Meets World. I also liked Captain Planet and Animorphs too. Geez so many to list. And of course the Disney Channel original Movies!! Zenon and Halloweentown.....yup...I loved the 90s!

Sailor Moon was actually not in my childhood. First anime I really watched was Yu Yu Hakusho if anyone remembers that.
