    FACE CLAIM. Shantel VanSanten

    LIKES.
Helping others in need, late-night patrols when the city is quiet, detective novels, puzzles, morning coffee and donuts, rainy days, jazz music

    DISLIKES.

High heeled shoes, messy workspace, thunderstorms, crusts, practical jokes, flying, mushrooms, feeling powerless or out of control

    HOBBIES.

Olivia enjoys reading detective novels, solving puzzles (particularly jigsaw puzzles) and going hiking to clear her mind after difficult cases. When she’s not working, she practices taekwondo and self-defence at the local gym.

    STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES.
    STRENGTHS.
    • Empathy: Olivia’s compassion allows her to connect with others easily, making her a supportive and understanding ally. Her empathy also helps her to stay grounded, even when faced with the horrors of the Entity’s realm.
    • Endurance: Years of police training have made Olivia physically resilient, allowing her to endure long chases, recover quickly from injuries, and push through exhaustion when others might falter.
    • Observation: Olivia has honed her investigative skills over years of solving cases, giving her a keen eye for detail. She can quickly spot inconsistencies, find hidden clues, and anticipate danger before it strikes.
    WEAKNESSES.
    • Overprotective: Olivia’s desire to protect everyone can sometimes backfire, as she may put herself in unnecessary danger to save someone else. This tendency can lead her into traps or risky situations.
    • Emotional: Olivia’s deep compassion, while a strength, also makes her vulnerable to emotional overload. The weight of constantly caring for others can wear her down, leading to moments of self-doubt or burnout.
    • Perfectionism: Olivia sets high standards for herself and struggles with feelings of failure if she falls short. This perfectionism can cause her to be overly critical of her own actions, leading to indecision or hesitation in high-pressure moments.

    FEAR.

Olivia fears failing to save someone in need, especially if their life is in danger because of her decisions and she fears that the darkness and cruelty of the world will eventually wear her down, stripping her of the compassion that drives her.

    PSY.

Olivia is deeply compassionate individual, going out of her way to help those in need. Despite her fears, she faces danger head-on, always striving to courageously protect the innocent. Her unwavering belief in doing what is right and ensuring that justice is served drives her every decision.

Her overprotective nature can sometimes lead her to take on more than she can handle, often sacrificing her own wellbeing for others, leading to burnout and physical danger. She also carries a lot of guilt, internalizing every failure, no matter how small, and struggles to forgive herself for mistakes, real or imagined.

    BELONGINGS.

    • Police Badge: Olivia’s Silver Falls Police Department badge, worn and frayed around the edges from years of service.
    • Pocket Notebook: A small notebook, well-worn and dog-eared from constant use. It's filled with notes on various cases she’s worked on, along with personal reflections and sketches.
    • Shoe Care Kit: Olivia's father taught her the value of a good pair of shoes and how, if you take care of them, they will take care of you. This set includes polish, brushes, and a small cloth she uses to keep them in top shape.
    • Locket: A simple silver locket with a photo of Olivia’s younger brother inside, who went missing when she was a teenager. It’s her most treasured possession.
    • Action Figure: A Mighty Mutant Power Turtle action figure that belonged to her younger brother. Though it shows signs of wear from countless hours of play, Olivia holds onto it as a reminder of her family and the brother she misses deeply.

    HISTORY

BEFORE. Olivia grew up in a small apartment above her father’s shoe shop in Silver Falls, Massachusetts. Her father, a single parent, worked long hours to provide for Olivia and her younger brother, juggling the responsibilities of running his business while raising two children on his own. Despite the struggles, Olivia’s father instilled in her the values of hard work, resilience, and the importance of taking care of what matters.

With their father frequently busy at the shop, Olivia took on a caretaker role for her brother. She helped him with his homework, made sure he ate dinner, and tried her best to keep him out of trouble. The two were inseparable, and Olivia’s protective instincts grew stronger every day.

One afternoon, when Olivia was just 16, her brother went missing while playing at the park. The police searched for weeks but found nothing. Olivia was devastated and blamed herself for not being there to protect him. The guilt and grief were overwhelming, but they also ignited a fire within her. Determined to ensure that no one else would experience the same pain, Olivia decided to become a police officer. She vowed to find justice for those who couldn’t protect themselves, hoping that through her work, she might one day find answers about her brother's disappearance.

THE FOG. Years later, Olivia had become a well-respected officer in her precinct, known for her sharp mind and relentless pursuit of justice. She never gave up searching for answers about her brother, following every lead, no matter how small. On a particularly stormy night, Olivia received a call about a missing child. Evoking memories of her brother's disappearance, she threw herself into the investigation, working tirelessly to find the child before it was too late.

But just as she felt she was closing in on a breakthrough, the Fog descended. The familiar streets of her city faded into darkness, and Olivia found herself pulled into the Entity's realm. She never found the child, and the guilt of that failure haunts her still. Now trapped in this nightmarish world, Olivia clings to her sense of duty, determined to protect the other survivors and find a way out.

NOW. In the Entity’s realm, Olivia struggles to balance her deep sense of justice with the relentless horror that surrounds her. The endless cycle of suffering and fear wears on her, but she refuses to give in. She is haunted by her brother’s disappearance and the child she failed to save, but these burdens only strengthen her resolve. Olivia remains determined to protect the other survivors, even if it means facing unimaginable horrors. Though the Fog clouds her path, her unwavering sense of purpose drives her forward.

    FULL NAME. Rae Demetriou

    D.O.B. April 7, 1954

    P.O.B. Athens, Greece

    GENDER.Female (she/her)

    SEXUALITY. Bisexual

    ALIAS. The Sphinx

    ROLE. Hysteria

    SPECIES. Human/Were-Cat

    visage.

    DESCRIPTION.
She has fair skin, wavy blonde hair that falls to her shoulders, and piercing blue eyes. Rae’s sharp features and confident demeanour reflect her ambitious, adventurous spirit. Her usual appearance is that of a well-dressed and professional archaeologist, though her work often leaves her looking rugged, with dirt and dust coating her clothes after a long day of excavation.

When she completes the Riddle (through hitting lone survivors, rescuers, and groups as described), she undergoes a terrifying transformation. Her body contorts and grows, as her human appearance gives way to a monstrous were-cat. In this form, her blonde hair becomes wild and untamed, her muscles bulge, and her once-human hands are replaced by large, fur-covered paws with vicious claws. Her face elongates into a feline snout, and her eyes glow with a predatory gleam. She now moves on all fours, stalking her prey with primal ferocity.

    ATTIRE.
In her normal state within the trials, Rae still looks very much like her old self. She wears an ornate, ancient Egyptian cat mask that covers her face, with large, almond-shaped eyes carved into it, lined with gold. Her outfit consists of a long, ceremonial shawl of sky blue and gold, embroidered with hieroglyphs and patterns reminiscent of both Greek and Egyptian cultures, draped over her archaeologist gear.

Rae’s regular outfit is a blend of her archaeological past and the supernatural world she now inhabits. She wears a loose, sleeveless black top beneath her ceremonial shawl, with cargo pants and boots—perfect for her expeditions. Her mask, modeled after the Egyptian goddess Bastet, is the most striking part of her appearance, symbolizing the curse she has embraced. The mask is sleek, with intricate golden patterns etched into it, and covers the upper half of her face. Her nails, long and golden, serve as her primary weapon.

    STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES.

Fearsome Transformation: Once she completes her Riddle and transforms into the were-cat, Rae becomes a formidable force. This transformation amplifies all her physical abilities—speed, strength, and ferocity—making her nearly unstoppable for a brief period.
Adaptability: Rae is able to change her tactics based on the survivors’ strategies. If they try to group up, she can exploit their numbers; if they separate, she can track them down individually. Her ability to quickly adapt makes her a versatile killer.
Arrogance: Rae's overconfidence can lead to mistakes, especially when she underestimates survivors.
Single-Minded: Once she focuses on a target, Rae can become so fixated that she neglects other opportunities or threats.
Impatience: Rae’s desire for control sometimes leads her to act rashly, especially when survivors delay or resist her games.

    FEAR.

Her deepest fear is that all her discoveries and sacrifices were meaningless—that she will never find the answer to the riddle and will be trapped in a cycle of endless searching.

    PSY.

Curiosity: Rae’s love for discovery led her to seek out answers in forgotten places, driven by a need to uncover the mysteries of the past.
Dedication: Rae was deeply committed to her work, willing to go to any lengths to achieve her goals.
Focus: Her single-minded determination can be an asset when she is hunting survivors.
Adaptability: She can easily shift between strategies depending on the survivors’ behaviors.
Cunning: Rae’s feline instincts have heightened her ability to think several steps ahead, using the environment to her advantage.

Obsession: Rae’s curiosity turned into a deadly obsession that consumed her, blinding her to anything beyond her riddle.
Isolation: Her obsession drove her to distance herself from others, preferring the company of ancient ruins to people.
Hubris: She believes herself to be nearly invincible in her new form, confident that no one can outsmart her.
Cruelty: Rae now enjoys toying with her victims, letting them think they have escaped, only to strike when they are most vulnerable.
Emotional Detachment: Her transformation has stripped away her empathy, making her see survivors as mere tools for her amusement.

    abc's

    POWER.
    Power: Riddle of the Sphinx
The Sphinx channels the ancient power of the Sphinx’s riddle to manipulate her prey, forcing them to act according to her deadly conditions. Her power requires her to hit survivors in specific scenarios, reflecting the stages of her riddle. With each successful hit, she inches closer to unleashing her true potential.

"Morning – Four Legs": When The Sphinx hits two survivors within 20 seconds of each other, she completes the first part of her riddle.

"Noon – Two Legs": When The Sphinx strikes a lone survivor, she completes the second part of the riddle.

"Night – Three Legs": When she hits a survivor rescuing another from the hook or carrying a downed ally, the final stage of her riddle is fulfilled.

Power Activation – Curse of the Sphinx:
Once all parts of the riddle are completed, The Sphinx unlocks Curse of the Sphinx, a powerful ability that lasts for 1 minute. During this time, all survivors are Exposed, making them vulnerable to a one-hit down. Additionally, The Sphinx emits no Terror Radius, allowing her to silently stalk her prey.

    THE MORI.

The Sphinx lifts the downed survivor with one claw, holding them close as she whispers the final piece of her riddle. The survivor’s eyes widen in terror as they realize the answer too late. With a swift motion, The Sphinx snaps their spine, letting their body fall limply to the ground. She watches them with cold satisfaction, knowing they could never have solved the puzzle in time.

    BELONGINGS.
Old Crepida: A weathered and dessicated old sandal. Rae's first find.
Journal of Translations: Rae’s old journal, containing translations of riddles and ancient texts, now filled with cryptic notes.
An Archaeological Trowel: Once used to carefully unearth ancient relics, now stained and worn.
Map of the Lost Tomb: Rae’s hand-drawn map of the tomb where she uncovered the tablet. Its design is intricate but incomplete.
An Ancient Greek Text: Rae’s notes and translations of an ancient Greek text detailing the myth of the Sphinx. The pages are worn, with passages highlighted in frantic underlines.
A Small Statue of a Lioness: A relic she found on one of her digs, symbolizing the nearing of her goal.
The Stone Tablet Fragment: The fragment she discovered, now glowing with the same strange energy as her claws.
A Golden Bracelet: Once belonging to Rae’s mother, this bracelet was passed down through generations, now tarnished and worn.

    HISTORY

    BEFORE.
Rae Demetriou was an accomplished archaeologist, respected for her work in uncovering lost relics and decoding ancient Greek texts. Her fascination with the myth of the Sphinx consumed her, leading her to pursue every lead, no matter how dangerous or obscure. She became obsessed with the idea of connecting the Sphinx's appearance in Greek, Egyptian and other civilisations mythology, convinced that there was a hidden truth buried beneath the surface.

    THE SHIFT.
Rae’s obsession consumed her. She pursued archaeology with feverish determination, traveling across continents in search of answers. Years of research led her to dusty libraries and forgotten ruins, but the closer she came to the truth, the more elusive it became. The Sphinx’s riddle haunted her, taunting her in the dark corners of her mind. Her dreams twisted with images of lions with wings, women with hollow eyes, and endless horizons stretching into the unknown.

One fateful night, deep in the Egyptian desert, Rae uncovered a hidden tomb. It had remained untouched for millennia, the entrance sealed with ancient warnings scrawled in forgotten tongues. Ignoring them, she ventured inside. The air was thick like fog, oppressive and dark, and the deeper she went, the more suffocating it became. At the heart of the tomb lay a single stone tablet, engraved with symbols that flickered in the torchlight. Rae reached out, her fingers trembling, and touched the tablet’s surface. The riddle was there, incomplete, but enough to fill the void that had been gnawing at her soul for years.

In that moment, something ancient and unseen whispered to her. As the final piece of the riddle echoed in her mind, Rae found herself no longer in the tomb, but in a world of endless night and death.

    NOW.
Finding an answer she never thought could exist, Rae relishes her new power seeing herself as the guardian of the ultimate riddle, the link between man and myth. For her, the trials are a game, the survivors move's a puzzle waiting to be solved.

    SKILLS. Experienced, Insightful, Enduring, Unflinching
    ROLE. Clairvoyance/Object of Obsession/Wake Up

    visage.

    DESCRIPTION.
Kathleen is in her late 60s, though she has aged gracefully. Her hair, once dark and luscious, has turned silver but is always styled with precision, reflecting her wealth and status. Her sharp blue eyes, once filled with hope and love, now radiate a cold detachment from the world. A figure of elegance in her youth, she maintains that air of refinement, though her features are etched with lines from years of disappointment and sorrow. In the trials, her posture remains upright, her movements slow but deliberate, always with an air of quiet dignity. She embodies the "trophy wife" ideal, but her expressions show a woman who has grown numb to the glamour and luxury.

    ATTIRE.
Kathleen appears in the trials wearing the same luxurious, silk robe she wore the night the Entity took her. The robe, light blue with silver floral embroidery, was her choice for what was meant to be her final night. Even in the Fog, she clings to her sense of elegance and decorum, though the robe is now worn and weathered by the trials, a ghost of its former beauty, much like Kathleen herself.

    STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES.

Cold Calculus: Maggie is sharp and observant. She has an innate ability to read situations and act accordingly, which makes her a master at escaping tricky spots in the trials.
Enduring: Decades of emotional turmoil have given Maggie a resilience most survivors lack. She doesn't panic easily and can remain calm in high-pressure situations.
Poise: Her dignified demeanor makes her less likely to draw attention to herself, allowing her to blend in or go unnoticed when necessary.

Distant: Maggie is emotionally closed off from others, making it difficult for her to form bonds with fellow survivors. In the trials, this can hinder her ability to work as part of a team.
Physically Frail: Age has caught up to her. Maggie is slower than other survivors and finds herself easily exhausted during chases.
Cynical: Her mistrust of people makes her reluctant to rely on others, even when she desperately needs their help.

    FEAR.

Having her wish come true. A shadow of who she was, would Jimmy still love her, seeing what she has become?

    PSY.

Loyal: Maggie’s devotion to Jimmy never wavered, even after his presumed death. She clung to his memory, refusing to let go.
Worldly: Her lifestyle has made her sophisticated and well-rounded in education, travel, and experiences though unfulfilled.
Detached: After years of heartbreak and disappointment, Maggie became emotionally distant, closing herself off from the world.
Bitter: Life’s repeated betrayals have left her with a cynical, jaded view of love and relationships.
Resentful: Her resentment toward the world—toward the men who failed to be Jimmy, and toward herself for giving up on love—fuels her cold demeanour in the trials.

    abc's

    BELONGINGS.

Jimmy’s Last Letter: The final letter Jimmy sent her before he disappeared. It's worn and yellowed, but she keeps it close, believing it's the only piece of him she has left.
Antique Cigarette Holder: A relic from her first marriage, the cigarette holder is both a symbol of the high society she entered and the hollow life she ended up living.
Wedding Band Collection: Maggie kept each wedding ring from her marriages. Though she doesn’t wear them, they serve as a reminder of each loveless relationship.
Silk Scarf: A gift from her second husband, a famous Italian polo player. It’s elegant, expensive, and utterly meaningless to her.
Tarnished Pocket Watch: A simple, modest pocket watch given to her by Jimmy before the war. Unlike the opulent things she accumulated in life, this is the one item that still holds sentimental value.

    HISTORY

    BEFORE.
Kathleen Stacy was born in a rural town within Cornwall, on a small farm where the days were long and the work was hard. Yet, Maggie was untouched by the weight of labour in those early years. Her heart belonged to the wide fields and, more importantly, to a boy named Jimmy Armitage. They were inseparable, the kind of love story people told with fondness and envy—a small-town romance, full of summer nights under the stars, stolen kisses by the barn, and whispered promises of forever.

But forever is a fragile thing. As World War II loomed on the horizon, Jimmy enlisted, promising Kathleen he would come back and marry her. He left with a kiss, a letter pressed into her hands, and a dream of a future they would build together. Days turned to weeks, then to months, and finally to years, but the letters stopped. Word came back that Jimmy had been killed in action, though his body was never recovered. Kathleen was left shattered, heartbroken, and unable to let go of the love she had lost.

Having to get away she moved to America where she found comfort with a dashing German, a scientist, who offered her a glimpse into the finer things in life. Kathleen allowed herself to be swept into a world of luxury, comfort, and control. At first, she was content, happy to be someone’s muse and to experience the glamour of high society. But as time passed, she realized that no matter how lavish the lifestyle or how attentive her husband was, he was not Jimmy.

Widowed, Kathleen would remarry, again and again. An Italian polo player, an American movie producer, a French restauranteur—each man wealthier, more powerful than the last. With every new marriage, she gained more possessions, more prestige, but her heart grew colder. Each husband offered her the world, but none could fill the void left by Jimmy’s death. The affection and admiration they showered her with only served as a bitter reminder that they could never be the man she truly wanted.

Over time, Kathleen became distant, emotionally detached from the men in her life. What began as a need for security became a cycle of hollow relationships, where she played the perfect wife—polite, graceful, and accommodating—but felt nothing inside. The love she had for Jimmy never faded, but instead hardened into resentment toward the world that had taken him from her. She became a master of wearing masks, perfectly playing the role of the adoring wife while feeling utterly empty inside.

    THE FOG.
By the time she neared 70, Kathleen had grown tired of the charade. Her current husband, a younger, ambitious businessman, was no different from the rest. He married her for her wealth and status, while she remained a ghost of the woman she had once been. When she discovered that he, too, was planning to leave her, the last remnants of hope withered away. After decades of playing a role, she no longer had the energy to keep up the façade.

One evening, after learning of her husband’s plans to divorce her and take what little dignity she had left, Kathleen made a decision. She would take control of her fate and reunite with Jimmy, even if it meant taking her own life.

She dressed in her finest silk robe, lit a cigarette, and poured herself a glass of whiskey. Standing on the balcony of her opulent estate, she gazed out over the city, feeling nothing but the cold night air. She envisioned Jimmy waiting for her, somewhere beyond the fog, where they could be together again. The pain of the past decades faded as she prepared for her final act.

She started the bath, the steam rising like the dreams she’d once had now dissipating into the air. But as she prepared to step into the water, the Fog began to thicken around her. The room shifted, growing colder, darker. Kathleen was no longer in her luxurious home—she was somewhere else entirely. The Fog enveloped her, and she realized, too late, that the end she sought was not hers to decide.

The Entity had found her in that moment of despair, drawn to the deep well of pain and loss that had defined her life. It pulled her into its realm, where the trials would offer her no respite, no reunion with Jimmy—only an endless struggle for survival.

    NOW.
In the Fog, Kathleen is a survivor, though she feels as though she has been surviving her entire life. The trials are just another form of captivity, another gilded cage. She faces the horrors of the Entity’s realm with the same cold detachment she had honed over the years. She no longer feels fear or anger—those emotions had long since burned out.

Kathleen remains pragmatic, using her wit and sharp mind to outlast her captors. In the back of her mind, she still clings to the hope that somewhere in this nightmarish realm, Jimmy might be waiting for her. But deep down, she knows the truth—he is gone, and all that remains is the hollow shell of the woman she once was.

She has no desire to befriend the other survivors, no interest in their struggles or stories. She plays the part of the elegant elder, polite and poised, but her heart is closed off. She survives because she must, because there is no other option.

P.O.B. Cutler, California

GENDER. cis male. he/him.

SEXUALITY. bisexual

ALIAS. grim rest

ROLE. hysteria

SPECIES. human in perpetual insomnia & methamphetamine-fueled bender

visage.

DESCRIPTION. pallid pale skin tinged with a sickly canvas of yellow, gray, and purple, a testament to his illness, easy bruising, and wasted appearance. his eyes, a murky blend of green and gold, carried a shadow of dread beneath their surface. half-closed, as if he were perpetually on the verge of sleep, yet strained–a war with rest. the strained intensity hinted at a profound, almost otherworldly dread--sunken and hollowed with a vacant stare of a soul trapped in relentless torment. gaunt frame, silhouette of skin and bones, every rib and vertebrae sharply outlined like a living anatomy chart–his every move looked to others like it hurt.

ATTIRE. in life, he was rarely seen outside of his job or the dingy bars he frequented in the dead of night. clad in his threadbare uniform or keeping the pants to instead sport the grimly splotched white shirt he’d worn underneath it. scuffed, black steel-toed boots to match. most of his life was spent rotting away in his home, with his shirt off–revealing his emaciated figure and denim jeans that hung off him like extra skin, black leather belt barely keeping them on. in this relentless death match, he’s been trapped in what he’s always rotted in–mirrors all around to remind him of the grotesque reality of his condition.

WEAPON. cutting torch. used to bludgeon and prod–with a finishing move of the gas can in the basement doused on the survivor, the torch emitting a continuous, intense flame ending their lives in one cruel move. john prefers ashes as a means of ridding his victims. at times bones do not become pure ash like the rest of the body, he chucks them in the corner of the room–the first thing survivors see when they’ve been dragged into the basement.

FACE CLAIM. christian bale

LIKES.

isolation. john finds solace in being alone, away from the prying eyes and judgments of others. his isolation mirrors his mental state and contributes to his paranoia.

routine. despite his deteriorating mental health, trevor clings to the routines and habits he had in his work at the factory. often, he works on projects within his realm for his own enjoyment. this routine provides a semblance of control in his chaotic life and new reality.

darkness. his factory realm is dimly lit. he prefers it to be, having a discomfort with light and too much clarity.

methamphetamine. john’s means of staying awake and managing his chronic fatigue and deteriorating health in his reality. the drug exacerbates his paranoia and delusions, providing a deceptive burst of energy and focus at work. since being taken by the entity during a drug-fueled binge, he experiences the lingering effects of the drug as an unrelenting, driving force.

his metalworking projects. john sees old machinery as a way to channel his obsession. with a deep familiarity with the factory’s equipment and a lifelong interest in repairing and working on machines, he derives a perverse comfort from manipulating industrial tools. what was once a consuming passion in his reality remains a central fixation in his current realm.

DISLIKES.

social interaction. trevor is uncomfortable with socializing and becomes increasingly hostile or withdrawn around other people, preferring to avoid them. once, long ago, he was decently adjusted and had friends around him–but towards the end of his life he saw them more as nuisances.

lights. harsh or bright lighting is unsettling for trevor, exposing the truth he tries to avoid and intensifying his paranoia. he hates flashlights.

total silence. he constant roaring or humming noises in the factory keep his mind occupied. he prefers it to be this way. he also hates when survivors don't entertain him. although he's adverse to social interaction in casual settings, his meetings with survivors serve as his only means of interaction--and he takes full advantage of such things.

mirrors. john is haunted by his reflection and struggles with self-image, making mirrors a source of discomfort and distress. every mirrored object in his realm are grotesquely warped, serving as confusing source of truth for any survivor resting their eyes too long on it--adding to the sense of eerie paranoia within his factory.

tough guys. john has always had a deep mistrust of authority figures, often fighting with his coworkers and managers in his reality. especially men who give off an arrogance over him. he is especially cruel to them, less cruel to more cowering people or women.

HOBBIES.

─ elaborating later, sorry i forgot this one

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES.

+technical expertise. john has a deep understanding of machinery and industrial equipment, allowing him to operate and repair complex tools with proficiency. his skill in this area makes him highly adept at manipulating and using factory equipment to his advantage.

+resourcefulness. his experience with machinery and problem-solving enables him to improvise and adapt in challenging situations. he can find innovative solutions using the tools and resources available in his environment.

+physical resilience. despite his deteriorating mental health, john displays a level of physical endurance in part to his methamphetamine boost. his ability to continue pursuing under extreme fatigue and stress demonstrates a form of gritty determination.

+attention to detail. john's obsessive nature allows him to focus intensely on tasks, often noticing minute details that others might overlook. this can be an advantage when dealing with complex situations.

+stealth. john's preference for isolation have honed his ability to move quietly and evade detection. in the chaotic environment of the factory, the constant loud machinery becomes a form of camouflage for him, almost transforming into a new kind of silence. this cacophony, which he has grown accustomed to, becomes a strategic advantage, as survivors are often disoriented and thrown off by the overwhelming noise, making it easier for him to remain unseen and strike unexpectedly.

-psychological instability. john's severe paranoia, delusions, and insomnia undermine his mental stability, leading to erratic behavior and impaired judgment. this instability often clouds his decision-making and affects his interactions with others.

-lack of sleep. chronic insomnia has severely impacted his mental health and physical well-being. his inability to sleep, a problem that plagued him in life, continues to haunt him in the realm. the ongoing sleep deprivation further deteriorates his cognitive function and emotional stability, making him increasingly erratic and unpredictable. in the realm, it manifests as an endless, restless vigilance, adding to the oppressive atmosphere that surrounds him.

-physical deterioration. chronic fatigue and poor health have taken a toll on his physical condition, making him weaker and less coordinated over time. his physical state can hinder his effectiveness in hand-to-hand combat which is why he prefers trickery and deceit to lead his victims to the basement where they're immobile and vulnerable.

-hesitance towards vulnerability. it leads him to be somewhat more lenient with individuals he perceives as vulnerable, particularly women. his interactions with these weaker targets often reflect a twisted sense of empathy or hesitance. as a result, vulnerable people, especially women, may find it easier to evade or escape from him compared to others. this leniency stems from his complex mix of guilt and an oddly protective impulse, which makes him less aggressive towards those he views as more defenseless. while he still poses a threat, his approach to these individuals is marked by a certain reluctance, making their escape slightly more feasible in the face of his otherwise relentless pursuit. though, this weakness is ever fluctuating due to his mental instability. he’s picky.

FEAR.

being alone forever, or being the way he is for forever. it’s obvious john has always been one to self-sabatoge his relationships. but in the back of his head, he’s struggled with the fear he’s gone too far with his mental and physical condition. that he won’t have a chance at being normal ever again. his fear of being trapped in perpetual loneliness is exacerbated, making the prospect of eternal isolation feel even more overwhelming. to cope with this fear, he immerses himself in constant activity, trying to keep his mind occupied and avoid confronting the painful reality of his solitude.

PSY.

john was always a quiet child, a solitary figure who often tried but rarely succeeded in making friends. he gravitated towards other outcasts, finding solace in their shared sense of displacement. from an early age, he developed a passion for video games and building things, a love nurtured by his father's mechanical work. yet, john struggled with depression and acute anxiety throughout his life. even as an adult, he largely isolated himself, spending most of his time in his apartment. he made an effort to socialize with co-workers at bars and maintained relationships with women, though these connections began to unravel following an accident. in the final years of his life, john's physical and mental health deteriorated further, plagued by emotional instability, drug use, and a secret that he kept hidden from those around him.

(gna elaborate on this further, but that's the gist).

POWER.

Distorted Mirrors. John’s placed three Distored Mirrors around his factory. The corrupted mirrors, warp the survivor’s view when they are within a certain range–in direct view, those who look at a mirror are afflicted with dread–revealing their location to John for a limited time, his terror radius reduced greatly. John’s paranoia is connected with these mirrors, leading him to them with hast if they aren’t able to shake the dread in a timely manner.

Dread affects survivors differently, those who are categorized as more weak of heart or vulnerable will have a harder time looking away–becoming “exposed” and for a short duration, makes them vulnerable to a one-hit downs. Physically, a blurred vision effect reduces their ability to see other survivors and objectives clearly thus making them easier targets.

Particularly, those who meet the Distored Mirror completely alone are at risk to suffer from a “broken" status effect lasting for a grueling ten minutes, preventing them from healing themselves or others during this time.

The entity has perpetually trapped John in a relentless methamphetamine high. Those who stick together in a group of even 2 are at a higher risk for this to be triggered, fueling a paranoid frenzy that increases his movement speed by 5% after he’s aware you’re in a group–this could be from running into you, or after a Distorted Mirror is triggered. The more people together, the higher his movement speed becomes.

THE MORI.

After downing the survivor, John slowly approaches with a menacing gait, dragging the surivor into his factory’s basement littered with ash and industrial equipment–in the farthest corner back, only emitted by the low light by the edge of the stairs are a pile of charred bones. He douses the gas canister over the survivor and ignites his cutting torch. The survivor is engulfed in flame–an intense and unrelenting final blaze. The survivor’s screams are drowned out by the roar of fire and the factory’s noise seem to grow so loud it can be heard by neighboring realms.

HISTORY

BEFORE.
John was primarily raised by his grandparents while his young parents worked to stabilize their lives. At age 12, he moved in with his father and stepmother but continued to see his biological mother, as both parents had successfully overcome their previous substance issues. Despite maintaining a cordial relationship with his family, John struggled with truancy, which led to his expulsion from most schools in the county. Growing up, he was shy, socially awkward, and had low self-esteem, making him an easy target for bullies and further isolating him.

After a year of homeschooling, his father sent him to a military camp, where John finally made a close friend who shared his ideals. However, after being expelled from the camp for smoking weed, John discovered that his friend was plotting a mass shooting, with a manifesto full of violent rants against women and authority. His friend was arrested for illegal weapons possession, and John was sent back home to finish high school in a nearby town. The 13 year old was shocked by the ordeal, deeply traumatizing him and his trust since it was nearly the only real friend he thought he’d made.

Back home, John's father relapsed into substance abuse, causing his stepmother to leave him. John had to take on various jobs, including car repairs and odd jobs around the neighborhood, to support his increasingly dysfunctional household.

His mother, unwilling to deal with the situation despite not even living with either of them, moved out of state and severed all contact with John and his father.

When John finally moved out of Cutler, it was after his father had entered a long-term sober living program. Their house had been forfeited due to unpaid bills and deteriorated conditions. At 21, without much direction, John decided on a whim to relocate to a small town outside Eugene, Oregon.

THE SHIFT.
In Eugene, John threw himself into work, trying to escape his troubled past. His commitment to his job became obsessive, but it was a desperate attempt to find purpose. One fateful night, while rushing to get home after a long shift and a couple too many drinks at a bar with his coworkers, John accidentally hit and killed a young boy in a hit-and-run. The incident shook him deeply, but he couldn't bring himself to confront the guilt nor turn himself in.

Instead, John sought solace in methamphetamine and alcohol. His use of drugs and alcohol quickly escalated, and he began suffering from severe paranoia and extreme insomnia. His condition deteriorated over the next year, causing erratic behavior at work. His coworkers noticed his declining state and accused him of endangering their safety on account of several workplace accidents and near fatalities.

On a drug-fueled bender, John broke into the factory under the pretense of working late. In his increasingly fractured state, he started a fire and then watched it burn, detached from the reality of the destruction around him. Unable to muster the will to extinguish the flames, he succumbed to the blaze, yet woke up in a hospital bed–badly burned and disoriented. The police confronted him, and he confessed to everything he’d been hiding for the past year.

In waiting for his condition to get better, he succumbed to his injuries–drifting off into a forever sleep and straight into the entity’s lair.

NOW. John keeps himself occupied, a relentless whirlwind of activity driven by his perpetual sleeplessness and the drug-induced haze that the entity has ensnared him in. His days are rigidly structured, a dutiful adherence to routine that masks the turmoil simmering beneath. Though he maintains a facade of order, the ceaseless busyness is but a fragile shield against the gut-wrenching misery that gnaws at him. Trapped in a cycle with no apparent escape, John is haunted by a desperate longing for another chance, a chance that forever eludes him. The harsh reality of his inescapable situation is a constant companion, a bitter truth that he confronts with unrelenting harshness, all while grappling with the crushing weight of hopelessness.
