5 dots

So what caps attributes and abilities at 5? What does it take to surpass this? Are there special requirements? Sorry to bother, just realized I have never seen the answer to this in any of my reading online or off and it has been bothering me.

in another topic someone mentions craft dots being capped by essence. he was talking about DB's though so I'm not sure if everyone has that restriction.

Everything but Willpower (and virtues?) is capped by Essence. Essence is capped by age. You have to be 100+ to raise Essence above 5.

Is this above 5? As in you can't reach Presence 6 until you are Essnce 6?
Indeed. But you can get to five without any essence requirements, i.e. an essence 3 character can have craft 5, but not go to craft 6 until his essence is 6, too.

Yes, I'm sorry. From my post it seemed EVERYTHING was capped by Essence, even below 6. But yes, you've gotta have Essence 6 to get Performance 6. Unless you are playing 1e and your ST allows merits. There is a merit to get around that restriction on Player's Guide.

Thanks everybody, good to know. Where is this rule actually stated in 2e, not that I am questioning you, just curious: so I can see where I missed it.

Once again, thank you very kindly. That was one of the sections of the core book I skimmed over, a little too lightly apparently.

You are welcome.

That is not a very useful chapter. I completely ignore there travel times, for example.

That's not good. Creation is huge and moving around could be a factor in any campaign. Then, you can also just open the book when you need it :)

Uh... he did not say his group was not moving around, he said they were not using the travel times. There is a difference.

I tend to go with the old style of "A journey only takes as long as the plot needs it to."

If I need them to leave Great Forks and be in Nexus to get the next leg of their plot done, they are there by the end of game.

If I want to mess with them, they may find a dozen subplots along the road.

Exactly. People still travel in my games, they just don't need a scientific calculator to do so.

Most of my players end up flying in one way or another, rendering all printed travel times pretty much moot.
