3rd Circle Demon Stats

Has anyone here statted a 3rd Circle demon?

If so, what Essence/Attribute ranges did you use?

I never did, but thougth about it a lot.

Since 1E 2nd circle demons had essence ratings from 6 to 8, and Attributes ratings from 1 to 13 (but generally between 4 and 6), I would say the weakest of the 3rd circle would start from essence 8 and attributes from 7.

You want to stat one in particular  :?:

I did once... but... it was hideous, given I was gonna send it up against a circle of solars that were OVER 1000 XP!

I have a rough draft in mind for a third circle demon that may come into play in my PbP game.  But, since no plan survives contact with Pc's, who knows if I'll actually pull it out. :?

Without giving away too much (since my players are ECR members), I have a high Essence and stats, along with a list of Charms that I've based off of the ones listed in the new Roll of Divinity book.  Sorcery is also included, since there is some hints that sorcery was given to the Solars by the Primordials.

I've never really worked out the stats on a 3rd circle demon (though I was already working on creating a few more Yozi's, so I might in the future.)

but if you insist on giving your 3rd circle demons stats, I would definately give even the weakest 3rd circle demon Essence 8, with probably all relevant stats at 8, with charms that will probably be solar equivalent from the ones we're going to see in Dreams of the First Age. I would give them at least all dodge/melee charms (depending on demon type) including the perfect defenses. Seeing that they have enormous essence pools, this should probably make them scary enough for any group of solars.

Also, I would give them random hearthstone 4/5 specials which are permanently on. Like regenerating a health level each 5 ticks, maybe give them a special to regenerate (Willpower) in health levels for a 20 motes, 1 willpower or something. (Reflexive)

maybe specials like converting all damage done to him to bashing damage. Maybe give any attack done to him a 50% miss chance unless that attack can also hurt dematerialized spirits..

When coming to soak, I wouldn't give them "too" much soak.. maybe around 30/35, but no real hardness, unless u want it to be truly undamageable by your players..

You have to assume that by the time your players will be trying to handle a demon like that, they have the ability to at least hit it if they really try, and they'll roll essence minimum anyway.

But seeing you're a very experienced player, I probably wouldn't need to tell you that the chance of actually defeating a 3rd circle demon is going to be near impossible for a group of solars that don't have essence 5+

I would compare it to killing a deathlord, perhaps even a little worse..

Like I said, I'm working on 2 yozi's at the moment, when I have some stats of 3rd circle demons, I'll let you know..

Hehe.  In my PbP game, a group of Lunars are trying to find a way of banishing Erembour.  They are chasing down an artifact that will give them the ability to summon/banish a 3rd circle demon.  Assuming they live to get that far...

No one told them it could be easier if one of them learned solar circle sorcery ?   :D

Stats for a Third Circle Demon?

I use it as an excuse for breaking out one of my d20s.

It harkens back to the random encounters of ancient yore.

Hey gratuitous posters, want to make any useful suggestions?

I say take some of the spirit Charms in RoGD and either remove limitations (range, duration, purview, etc.) or up the effect by an order of magnitude: something that adds dice converts dice to successes, an attack that does lethal does aggravated, etc. With an Essence score of 8 or 9, its mote pool is going to be pretty fucking massive, so the cost of Charms won't be particularly relevant. Also, making some Charms permanent enhancements - some of the feeding ones, like Bread of Weak Spirit or Meat of Broken Flesh - would boost its power level.

Also: insanely high specialties, as befits its nature.

Ah, blow it out your ass, Howard.

What Dr. Samuel Johnson here is talking about is just go willy-nilly with the damn thing. :P

No, I haven't had cause to stat. one out. Yet. (Mwa-ha-ha!)

No I'm probably gonna have to stat. out the Ebon Dragon before the climax of my current game. I don't want to do the math but it may well come to that.

When I do I'll probably model it after the guidelines for high-Essence spirits in RoGD, then give it just that little bit more and make it WeIRd.

You'd have to mind some things about system conversion, but there are stat.s for some of the damn things in Games of Divinity, the Spirits book for 1st ed. You could use them as starting points, anyway.

There are no statted 3rd Circle demons in GoD.

Really? I looked through it the other day and could've sworn there were.

Sorry, false alarm! Nobody listen to me!

Ok.

Is that just on this incident or forever?

Eh.  Nevermind.  Not like we'd be listening. :P

I have a 3rd circle demon currently in my game.  His name is Shigoroth, Lord of Knives and he's trapped in the Tomb of Singing Blades as its outermost defense mechanism.  I've got his stats marked down somewhere, probably currently in a box since I'm moving this weekend. I get everything straightened away over the next few days and I'll see about posting the stats I rolled up for him.
