[1x1] Matched Together

(It's okay! No worries. We can go on hiatus for a bit. I love our roleplay so it's worth waiting for. If you ever get any time on your hands just post again. Or if you think you won't be able to continue just shoot me a PM! No problem! ^_^ )

Ezra climbed back into bed, pulling the blankets over her chest. She hugged her knees resting her chin on top of her knees. She stared at the door waiting for Henry to return. She brushed her fingers through her hair and out of her face taking a few deep breaths before curling up on her side. She wrapped her arms around a pillow. She then closed her eyes trying to sleep.

The young noble man quickly returned to his room and placed Stone back in his cage before making his way back to Ezra's room. He saw that she was in bed already, so he pulled up a chair and sat down next to her. "Is there anything you do normally that helps you sleep?" he asked, hoping to find some way to help her. "My mother used to read to me when I was a boy, but that was a long time ago. Now, I just listen to the sound of my bird chirping in the evening and it helps me to sleep," he explained.

Ezra opened her eyes hearing Carson's voice. She shook her head slightly. "I've gotten used to not sleeping very much." she muttered softly in return. "I've gotten to like watching the stars. They used to make me sad. My brother used to tell me the names of all the stars. He wanted to be a sailor." she pulled on the tips of a few strands of hair slowly lowering her voice until she became lost in her thoughts.

"Oh, I see. I'm afraid sleep is often a must for me. I'm under my parent's thumb a lot of the day working hard to be the noble they wish me to be, so by night I am tired enough to gratefully take what sleep I can get," Henry replied, taking in her words. "I hadn't the faintest clue you had a brother. Is he still around?" The young man didn't want to be rude, but he was curious. Apparently, her parents had been killed, but she wasn't sure about her brother.

Ezra stared at Henry realizing she had made another slip up. She licked her lip taking in a breath before answering. "Oh, um." she shook her head. "He got sick." she quickly spat out. It was nice not having to lie for once, especially about her family. She turned her head looking up at the ceiling before closing her eyes again. "He never got the chance to see the ocean."

"Oh he was sick," Henry replied with a frown, sighing. His poor fiancee, had been through a lot, apparently. She had lost so much of her family. "If he was unable to see the ocean, would you like to? I believe, after my parents have planned a lot of our outings, that we are allowed to choose one. We may choose the ocean if you'd like. Perhaps we could even take a ride on a boat at night and look at the stars. That would mean you could enjoy two nice things at once," the blond suggested.

Ezra closed her eyes tightly taking a pause before answering. She rolled back onto her side before opening her eyes. "Going to the ocean was his dream not mine. The ocean and the stars- that's something my brother and I share. Not me and you. So no, I don't want to see the ocean with you." she stated rather venomously before rolling back over onto her back and pulling the covers up over her face.

(haha rejected! xD )

Henry flinched at Ezra's sudden, venous words in reply to his simple offer. "Oh come now, I was only try to offer something to you that I thought you might like. Don't sound so angry about it." He huffed and shook his head. "If it irritates you that much, then come up with something else to do." It's not like he had a choice but to do something with her anyhow.

"But no need to figure that out right now. Just get some rest." He hoped she would go to sleep soon so he could return to his own room and sleep, especially if his comments might irritate her again.

Ezra spoke through the covers. "I'm going to go to sleep now." she rolled onto her side facing away from him. She closed her eyes slowly drifting off to sleep. Her breathing evened as she fell into a light slumber. She pushed the covers off her face.

(Posting again in just a moment! Sorry, half got distracted by a group Rp since they take a ton of focus to stay caught up. It ended for now though, so I'll try to be more intent with my replies for you! Sorry about that! Just drop a poke message on my profile if I ever get too slow. My notifications were literally going by so fast I missed that you posted the other day. xD )
Henry didn't even wait for her to go to sleep. As soon as she told him, "I'm going to sleep now," he rose to his feet and quietly moved to leave the room. Who was she trying to fool? Ezra didn't want him there. He left the room and returned to his own , going to bed for the night.

---

The next morning, Henry woke to a knock at his door. "Young master, please ready yourself for the day," the voice of a maid called out. "You are to meet your fiancée in the dining room for breakfast." Henry groaned and got out of bed, hearing the maid move over to knock at Ezra's door and give her the same message.

Ezra rolled over after hearing the knocking. She opened her eyes staring out at the empty chair Henry had been sitting in. She rubbed her eyes trying to remember when he had left in the night. Slowly, she pulled herself from the bed and over to her wardrobe. She stared at the itchy, stiff, uncomfortable clothes that had been brought for her to wear. That girl must have been insane to wear this stuff all the time. Ezra would rather wear pants then put on another one of those dresses. Without any other plan to go by, it's what she aimed to do. She exchanged one of her necklaces with a servant who brought her a pair of his pants and shirt. She pulled one of her ribbons around her waist to keep her pants up and using two matching colors, she wove the ribbons through her two braids for good measure. The sleeves were a bit long, so she had to roll them up. She stuffed her feet into her shoes before racing down to catch breakfast.

Henry hugged his pillow. Maybe he should just pout and refuse to go down to the dinging room? It was a tempting idea. But then again, pouting never got a person far, especially not Henry. His parents would make him leave the room if he used that for a reason. But perhaps he could come up with another reason...

He told the maid something and she left the room, making her way down to the dining area to deliver a message. "Young Master Henry says he's fallen sick." She informed Ezra. "Would you like me to deliver a message to you? Otherwise you could speak to his parents. They'll be here in a moment."

Ezra looked up at the maid startled. She stood up from the table pushing her chair back. "Was he sick last night?" she asked suddenly concerned. "Or yesterday?" She ran her fingers through her hair and began to pace. "Never mind. I'll be up in my room." She raced off to her room closing the door behind her. She chewed on her finger staring out at the window across from her leaning against the door behind her.

"No, ma'am, he wasn't sick last night. This must have been a sudden illness. Should you like to go check on him, you're welcome to," she replied, before Ezra left to return to her room. She delivered the news to Henry's parents when they arrived in the dining room.

Mr. Marzon scowled. "Insolent boy. Sick or not, I'll drag his behind down here if I have to..." He marched up to Henry's room and knocked at the door. "Henry, you need to come down to the dinging room. It is very important that you get to know this fiancee of yours whether you're ill or not."

Henry bit his lip. Okay, he had faked being sick. But he wasn't out of tricks yet. He moved to check under his bed where he kept a small burlap bag. Inside the bag were peanuts, which he was very allergic to. He popped a few in his mouth before going to answer the door.

"I'm having an allergy attack today. I fear I would not be good company for Lady Ezra," he told his father.

"Nonsense," spat the man. "Get dressed and go knock at her door. Offer to walk her down to the dining room for breakfast. You have a duty to attend to," he said before turning to leave.

Ezra turned around hearing footsteps and a knock on the door beside her. She pressed her ear to her door trying to listen to the muffled conversation. She pulled away hearing a silence. She turned back around and walked back over to the window sitting on the ground in the warm light. She rested her hands loosely on her knees looking out of the window in front of her.

Henry didn't sulk until his father left, but once he did, oh he sulked. He walked into his room and slammed the door shut and ran a hand through his hair with a groan. Didn't the peanuts do their job? They were supposed to make a rash appear on his face. Maybe he didn't wait long enough after eating them for a rash to appear. But regardless, his attempt to get out of breakfast with Ezra wasn't going to work. He got dressed in a fashionable dark blue tunic and brown vest, before exiting his room and stepping in front of his fiancee's door. He knocked and stood back, waiting to her to answer.

Ezra turned her head to face the door before turning back to face the window. "It's open!" she called keeping her eyes on the window. She didn't need to wait for the door to open to figure out who it was. She was sure it was Henry after overhearing the conversation he had just had with his father. She waited to hear the sound of the door opening before adding. "You aren't sick are you?" she asked keeping her eyes on the window in front of her.

Sighing, Henry opened the door to her room and slipped inside, folding his hands behind his back. He stood close to the door, not approaching her. "No, I'm not ill, but I am sick of my parents," he said, trying to be witty with his words. "I faked being sick," he admitted after a moment. "It has nothing to do with you. I was just... nervous... this morning. Not nervous because of you, mostly nervous because of my parents. They are the ones who make me uncomfortable. They'll be judging my every action around you from now on, and that most certainly gives me anxiety."

Ezra turned her head away from the window to face Henry. "Here's an idea. Stop caring about their opinion. Then you won't be so nervous all the time." She pushed herself to her feet. "You have good practice. You obviously don't care about my opinion of you. Otherwise when I called you a bull headed brat- you would feel disappointment or feel something." She began to roll her sleeve up over her hand which had seemed to come unrolled when she stood up. "Well I'm sick of all those unbearable dresses."

"Easy for you to say. They're my parents. Caring about their opinions and making them happy is what puts food on my plate," Henry replied to Ezra, huffing lightly. "You don't put food on my plate or haven't taken care of me like they have. That's why it's easier to brush off the words you, or anyone else says." He tilted his head, looking at her curiously. "Aren't you used to dresses like that by now? If you're a noble, you've been wearing them for your entire life."

Ezra shook her head. "Wearing them longer doesn't make them any more comfortable." she stated. "You ever fallen off a horse before? Does it hurt less the second time you fall off a horse? Of course not." She walked over to the door. "I assumed you came to invite me to breakfast. You're quite slow at getting to your point." She walked past him into the hallway.

Henry let out another huff of air. Boy this woman was aggravating. "I was getting to that, but you started up conversation asking if I was sick and then complaining about your clothes. Are we really going to start this again today? At least try to be civil with me in front of my parents and your grandfather," he complained, following after her. "And take hold of my arm. I'm supposed to look like I'm escorting you."
