1x1 Angel and Demon War

Happy to be tugged along, Dez followed as this time they proceeded down the corridor unescorted. He glanced down at their joined hands, heat flushing his skin at the contact, but he dismissed it; now wasn't the time.

They continued in silence for a moment before Dez picked up the sound of footsteps approaching round the corner. Using a side door, which lead to a small, cramped office filled with files and books, he pulled himself and Ash inside, closing the door quietly behind them m, awaiting the footsteps to pass.

It seemed cliche, childlike even, but he became hyper aware of how close together the office put them. He was cautious to avoid touching her wings, not wanting to hurt her further.

Ash yelped softly as she was pulled through the door by him, but had also heard the footsteps, so she didn't argue. She blinked up at him, one of her wings brushing his arms, sending a warm wave through her. She shook her head to herself, denying that he could be her soulmate, and blinking as she realised how close they were. She waited for the moment the footsteps silenced patiently

Trying to look anywhere but her lips, at least trying to be a little less obvious, Dez counted the seconds in his head for the footsteps to pass. Eventually the human passed out of earshot, and cautiously, Dez opened the door. "Coast is clear," he said quietly, slipping out and checking both ends of the corridor.

Ash slipped out after him awkwardly, looking up and down the corridor and leaning on the walls slightly as she walked behind him, protecting the rear whilst he kept an eye on the front

They wandered for a while, the place surprisingly devoid of people. When they proceeded down to the lower floor, however, Dez could pick up the faint but definite smell of mud, dirt, and vegetation. "This way," he said quietly, following it, until they reached a door at the back of one of the corridors. "Care to do the honours?" Dez said after trying the handle and finding it locked.

Ash smiled softly, and plucked a new feather with a wince and a flinch, before crouching and quietly picking the lock. After a while she backed up, and opened the door, wandering out with a grin

"Holy hell," Dez mumbled, following her out and closing the door behind them. "Id forgotten what outside looked like."

They were surrounded by a vast expanse of dense forest, the trees enormous. The building behind them was grey, with barbed wire on the roof, and around the door they had escape from ran a tall metal fence.

"I hope you're feeling active," he said, approaching the fence. Grateful his wound was all but healed now, he ran at the fence and vaulted it in one smooth action, landing with agymnastic flourish, grinning. "Tada."

Ash raised an eyebrow, and ran at the fence, but instead of vaulting she leapt into the air, her wings flicking out to catch the air, and she soared over his head and elegantly landed close to a tree, grinning at him, holding her dark wings loosely against her back happily, feeling free

"Still jealous," Dez said, grinning at her elegant performance. "And feeling upstaged." Exhaling, he glanced back at the building that had been their prison for so long, and then back at her. "Come on. Let's get out of here."

Ash nodded, and followed him, glancing back warily at the prison as she walked. She wondered how long it would take the humans to realise they were missing, and hoped by then that herself and the demon would be long gone by that point

As they pushed further into the woods, the wailing sound of a siren emanated back from the complex they had escaped, crying out over the forest. "Fuck," Dez swore, glancing back over his shoulder and then giving Ash a wry grin. "I guess it's time to run- you up to it?" He asked, fidgeting from foot to foot as the siren swelled louder.

Ash blinked at him, flinching as the siren wailed louder and louder. She grabbed his hand, ignoring the warmth that flooded her chest as she pulled him along. Pushing him in front of her, she grabbed him about the waist, and opened her wings, flapping and takin the two into a rather tall tree, motioning for him to stay silent

Holy shit, Dez thought to himself. So this is what flying feels like.

It was simultaneously terrifying and exhilaration, and when he was dropped into the tree by Ash he caught himself woozily, heart stuttering in up his chest, a big, goofy smile on his face. "Good thinking," he said quietly once they were in the tree, glancing down at the forest floor below them. A few minutes later, two human guards decked out in heavy duty black armour and visor masks came running past the tree, equipped with Tazers and long range sniper rifles.

"Shit, thank hell we didn't run into those guys earlier," Dez said under his breath, watching them as they ran past. Whatever was going on with that facility, it appeared to be far bigger than he'd imagined, and a minute later another pair of guards ran past in a similar direction.

Ash smiled at his goofy grin, then watched the guards pass with off curiosity. She grinned and suddenly disappeared, returning with the weapons of the second group, whom she had his in a bush unconscious. She passed a set carefully to her companion

"Remind me never to get on your bad side," Dez said with a crooked smile and a raised eyebrow, looking her and her acquired guns over. He took the one offered from her, and slung it over his shoulder by the strap, testing the weighting, checking the ammunition and number of rounds left, looking down the sight and practicing aiming. "These are some nice guns. I mean, I'm no snipe, but even I know they're nice. Whoever had the goodwill to kidnap us, they're clearly well connected, not just some ragtag group." Looking around the forest, he inhaled, catching a mix of scents, but nothing definitive. "Any idea where we are? And if you say 'in a forest', I will only give you a dry half laugh at most."

"In a big forest" ash replied with a smirk, aiming as two more guards appeared, and shooting each in the head in quick succession. She watched as both fell dead to the floor, and grinned, "they are good guns. Not sure about their employees though"

"Oh you're just so witty," Dez said with a smirk and a roll of his eyes, giving her a nudge with his elbow on her arm, just so she knew he appreciated the humour. "And yeah, the staff seem a bit oblivious. Try not to be too disappointed, or they'll send your true love Simon out in search for you." Shaking his head, Dez squinted out at the complex, waiting for a couple of minutes. No further guard units were dispatched from the building, and so he deemed it safe to proceed. "Come on, let's start getting out of here. Not that I don't love the big forest, more the people dressed in black and armed in guns in it."

Ash looked horrified at the prospect at Simin loving her. She shivered, "let's just go..." She muttered grabbing him and fluttering to the floor

Back on the forest floor, Dez steadied himself and then walked with her through the forest, proceeding carefully in case they came across any of the dispatched guards. His shoulders taut, he could tell he was on edge, a state of being he felt was pretty understandable given the situation, so tried to relax by making casual whispered conversation. "So this soul mate thing, how does it work with you angels? You find them then just accept you have to be with them and fall unquestioningly into their arms?" He asked, glancing over at Ash briefly before looking back in the direction they were heading, trying to keep an ear out for the guards, or to catch their scent.

Ash shook her head, "You don't have to...but that means you'd have to find an angel who also gave up on their soulmate. Usually they're the most damaged ones, so it doesn't usually work" she replied softly, looking at him curiously, "does demon love work like human love?" She asked

"Wow that sounds... dark. And kind of depressing," Dez said, mulling over what she'd said about angel soul mates as he drummed his fingers on the side of his gun. He then laughed at her question, the humour black. "Demons and love tend to be... how to put this... temperamental. Don't get me wrong, some demons seem super duper happy together, all monogamous and true love forever and all that. Most of it seems to be a rush of hormones and jumbled emotions though." Glancing back over at Ash, Dez grimaced, trying to pass it off as an amusing joke. "More reasons I'm jealous of angels; you guys seem to have your shit together a lot better than we do on that front."

Ash smiled softly at him, still ignoring the warm feeling in her chest as she took his hand and dragged him. She froze as she noticed the first guard group hiding in the undergrowth, pointing their guns. She froze as the guns went off, and pushed her body into the demons, pushing him out of the way as a bullet went through one of her wings as she did so. She rolled to her feet, aiming her own gun and shoring the one with the gun

Stumbling from where Ash pushed him to save him, Dez responded quickly and regained his footing. Bringing the gun up, he aimed and shot the other guard, rendering their two attackers dead. "Fuck," he swore, "people will have heard that." He then noticed her wing and felt a pang of guilt, since she'd received the wound through saving his ass. Dammit, he cursed mentally, why does everyone around me always end up getting injured or killed?

Taking her hand as she had his, he gripped her wrist tightly and then closed his eyes. He was sceptical about how well this could work with the cuffs on, especially given how he had no idea where they were, but he thought it was worth a try. Drawing on his magic, getting the hang of it now, used to the shocks from the cuff, he held onto Ash tightly and then teleported the two of them.

It was without a destination in mind, thus they reappeared only a mile or so further away from the compound, still surrounded by dense forest, but it ought to keep them safe whilst the other guards were drawn to the site of the gun shot. He dropped Ash's hand when they materialised back on the ground, swearing colourfully at the burning sensation that had ripped up his arm during the use of magic. Grimacing through it, he glanced over at Ash. "You alright?" He asked, referring both to her wing and the after affects of the teleportation. First-timers for demon teleportation had a tendency to pass out and/or vomit, since it was far from a pleasant experience.

Ash wobble when they landed, an sat suddenly on the floor, face pale -/ she shook her head to get rid of the nausea that was flooding her. She blinked up at him after a while, "W-We need to get these c-cuffs off" she mumbled softly as she watched his arm. Her injured wing was held limply to her body when she stood again, and then she looked at himhim

"Agreed," he said with a nod of his head, impressed that she'd remained standing. "But I've no idea how. Any bright ideas, O knowledgeable one?" He asked, looking down at the cuffs in question. He'd tried briefly to slice them with his own magic, but all that had done was intensify the pain tenfold, and short-circuit his magic. His eyes then drifted to her injured win, noting its limp position, and he looked up at her. "And are you going to be okay with that wing?"
