Welcome to Rosewood, a small town right outside of the city of Chicago. A place where you know everyone, and everyone knows you. It has everything that you need, a university, shops, and people that care. In the middle of town, an old firehouse has been rebuilt to be a communal living space with the whole town’s support. It’s owned by a sleazy man, but it is now home to a group of young adults who are just now starting out their lives in Rosewood. Some of them are from the town while others just needed a place to escape to. Let’s see how the drama spills out in this small town.

It is October 31st! The members of the Communal Firehouse have decided to throw a halloween party. Everyone is invited, as they get ready to have fun and relax from their jobs, school, or just trying to get their mind off of whatever is going on in their lives. They have been living together for a few months now, and have a good feel of each other…or do they? Let’s see what goes down at this halloween party, it’s sure to be a party to remember.

Ok, your characters are preparing for the halloween party, it’s close to the time to start. So others might be grabbing the drinks while someone is prepping the food. People are running around decorating making sure everything is perfect for their first halloween together. How do your characters prepare or is your character even going? Let’s see what the plan is!

Halloween, like most holidays, didn't appeal to Evan in the slightest. But the sound of free food and drinks was too good to pass up. So he pulled out a Sharpie and a plain white shirt and lazily scribbled a "Error 404: Costume Not Found" on the fabric. Minimum effort, but at least he wouldn't get hounded for not wearing a costume. He ambled down to the party area, pouring himself a healthy amount of booze into a cup of punch and grabbing a handful of chocolate-covered pretzels. He did like to eat and drink, after all.

Evan had just gotten fired from yet another job, this time as a cashier at a local mom and pop shop. He had been caught sleeping on the job, and although the owner was remorseful in his tone, Evan still had been sent packing. It was their loss, really. And honestly? He was relieved that he could skirt by on unemployment while he did absolutely nothing - his favorite thing to do.

After munching and crunching on his snack and drink, he wandered outside, where he promptly lit up a blunt he had tucked away in his pants pocket. It was his second favorite thing to do behind doing nothing. His third? Sleeping. But, since he probably wouldn't get a chance to do that while the party was going on, he supposed he'd have to settle for a good smoke instead.

Caitlin Palmer would never be caught dead in a store bought costume. She always DIYed her costumes every year, and this year, it just so happened that she was DIYing the classic Disney version of Snow White. She had pinned her hair to look like that of the character, adding a headband with a red bow on it to match Snow White's. On her ears, she fastened a pair of apple-shaped earrings. Over her head went a blue off-the-shoulder puff sleeve top, fastened around her neck went a red cape, pulled up around her waist went a yellow skirt, and on her feet, a pair of red pumps. She finished off the costume with a pass of red lipstick to brighten her lips. Cait was no longer Cait - no, she was Snow White. All those nights of playing Dress To Impress really paid off.

She practically floated down to the party, a smile painted on those ruby red lips of hers. "Happy Halloween!" She started to help the others tidy up and prepare for the influx of people that would be attending the party without another word, or having been prompted to. And right as she had set down a plate of chocolate-covered pretzels, Evan swiped a few, shoving them into his grubby little mouth. Sometimes she wondered with that one. She hadn't really been around him that much, despite living together, but he seemed to be a lazy oaf who'd rather spend his time mooching off of others than working it out for himself. But before she had the chance to speak up to tell him not to do that until the party had started, he was gone. Cait just sighed, putting a few more pretzels out on display. How did some people make in life?

showing off the starfish costume
Leo loved Halloween. The fall season, the cool evenings, the spooky atmosphere, all of it. Doing research, especially PhD research, made you into a crafty person regardless of if you liked it or not, so in a way, making a Halloween costume from scratch wasn’t much different than rigging together an experiment setup.

Leo carefully shimmied himself out of his bedroom, cursing for the first time how narrow the walkway from his room to the stairs was. That was what he got for living on the third floor, right next to what used to be the fire pole in this once-firehouse. He had been upset that they had taken out the fire pole at all for “safety” concerns when he moved in - why did he move into a firehouse if there was no fire pole? But he made do, and most mornings when he had overslept he simply jumped over the railing onto the stairs below, which felt like the same thing.

But jumping over the railing would ruin his costume, if Leo could have even physically moved that much. The inspiration for his costume came from a new starfish friend he had acquired a few weeks ago while looking for samples at a nearby beach. The tiny, light pink starfish named Starry was now his roommate, in a hastily made tank that Leo would eventually get around to upgrading. Instead of building this tank, Leo had been busy making a costume in Starry’s honour: a huge, photo-realistic starfish costume made out of whatever materials Leo could find that were both lightweight and sturdy. The five limbs of his costume were huge; his plan had been to originally have one over each arm and leg, but that would have left his arms in a useless position that didn't accurately reflect the degrees of a starfish limbs, so instead the arm “points” just stuck out over his shoulders like pauldrons on a set of knight’s armour, leaving his arms free to move. The leg "points" he wore over his thighs went out to the sides, with slits in the sides of them where his legs emerged (which were dressed in black pants as to not ruin the visual effect). The head point resembled a huge dunce cap that went down to his shoulders to meet with the arms points, with a hole cut out for his head. It was the same shade of pink as Starry (too light to be confused with Patrick from SpongeBob, he hoped), and each point was covered in realistic suckers that Leo had painstakingly added on over the course of several late nights.

Everything considered, he was very proud of his costume, which took up the entire width of the stairs as he descended to the main floor, where the party would be taking place.

It wasn’t in full swing yet, with people still doing the finishing touches on food and drinks and decorations. Leo had borrowed the lab’s anatomical skeletons of various fish and sea creature models to be used as decoration around the building, mixing the spooky Halloween skeleton atmosphere with his nautical interests. Just how he liked it.

Leo squeezed his way through the kitchen, bumping into almost everyone there - which Leo figured would be a common occurrence for him tonight. He made it to the punch bowl, poking one of his arm points into Cian as he filled up a glass and took a drink.

”Hey dude! Sorry about that - how’s it going? Dope cop costume, are you excited for the party?”
