We will also be moderating (and, if necessary, deciding the outcome of) all fights that come up in the RP (IC fights, that is xD There should be no OOC fights). And of course, no godmodding.
[div class=title]Rule #3[/div] I will expect a minimum of one post a week for each character you have in the RP. You are, of course, free to post more than that- just don't flood the thread. Extensions will of course be granted if you have stuff going on- just be sure to let us know. After two weeks of inactivity, your character will be sidelined. Past that, they will be removed, killed off or (if necessary) taken over by a GM. (If you choose to drop the RP, that's perfectly fine- just let us know ^^ )
[div class=title]Rule #4[/div] Expected length for posting is several paragraphs, with a minimum of two. And be sure to always have something in your posts that other characters can work with/respond to. You're free to write either in 3rd person or 1st person (I normally don't accept the latter, but it is a hallmark of Noir writing ^^ ), as long as you stay consistent. You don't have to fully embrace the Noir esthetic if you don't want to (if you don't know what Noir is, I recommend reading and watching Sin City, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen- apologies to any purists who might consider these references pseudo-Noir more than anything!), but I do think it's a lot of fun~
[div class=title]Rule #5[/div] Themes and tone: As mentioned previously, please feel free to explore darker themes and to write with emotion, tension, and drama. However, I also don't want this to be the most angsty/serious RP in the world, so I'll want to see a healthy dose of humorous and goofy moments mixed in.
[div class=title]Rule #6[/div] For character creation, I have no problem at all with classic stereotypes, and in fact quite enjoy cliche characters and moments, so feel free to make your characters as tropey as you'd like! ^^ We will accept all characters, as long as we feel like they don't pose a problem for the setting of the RP or the other players' enjoyment.
[div class=title]Rule #7[/div] This RP is not first-come, first serve. We'll be taking reserves, so we know who's interested in which roles, but we can refuse a character if we feel they might not be a good fit. We may also simply suggest some modifications to the profile.
[div class=title]Rule #8[/div] I would like each player to have at least two characters (the maximum allowed is 'as many as you can handle' xD ), since there are many available roles but I don't really want an unmanageably large group. That being said, if you really hate having more than one character in the same RP, I'll survive ;P
[div class=title]Rule #9[/div] Be advised that, in order to determine good fit for players, we will be requesting writing samples. Nothing too drastic- don't fret; I'm not looking for perfection! And the requirements will be different for anyone new to the site (and slightly more lax for non-native speakers), of course, so no need to worry ^^
[div class=title]Rule #10[/div] I will be expecting drawn faceclaims for the profiles (a controversial choice, I know), and anime-style is fine. However, you're free to submit additional, RL FCs or outfit pictures as well. And if you have trouble finding good FCs, just let us know~
[div class=title]Rule #11[/div] The OOC thread will be on here (no Discord). I would like people to be active in the OOC, and I encourage you hang out there and plot with each other, as I find RPs work better when the players interact and discuss things, as well as their characters. Please introduce yourself in the OOC once your characters have been accepted.
[div class=title]Rule #12[/div] If you fail to follow these rules &/or GM instructions, you'll be given friendly reminders, followed by official warnings, followed by removal from the RP. So, you know, follow the rules ;P

This includes everything stated in the 'Others' category above, but with the difference that they don't belong to/aren't affiliated with a specific group!
You can be a private eye, any kind of police officer, a student or business owner who knows or trades with or is under the protection of a group, independant security or gun-for-hire...
A few notes:
- You don't have to be a part of the actual, blood-related family to be part of the crime family. You also don't have to be that nationality.
- Different groups (as well as cops) will probably refer to each other by using family names, diminutives, and insulting nicknames- get creative!
- The Italian Mafia (ie, the mob) is the group most likely to represent Hollywood movie tropes. If you want to play a wiseguy, this is your group!
- The Chinese and Japanese often refer to each other using titles and honorifics- I encourage you to look up a few, to add some authenticity~
- If you want to play an undercover cop, or a spy from a different group, you can put it in the CS, or you can keep it a secret but inform the GMs.
- I encourage anyone playing a detective or private eye to fully embrace Noir tropes and aesthetics- I promise you they're a lot of fun! ^^
- I also encourage dating, matrimony, trysts, friendships and rivalries both in and across group lines! It makes for interesting events/interactions~
And lastly: plot! Plot before making characters, after making characters. Plot their previous relationships or encounters, or plot how they'll meet and what kind of relationship they'll have. Plot plot plot plot plot! ;P

Truth be told, I should've kicked her out the second she walked back through that door, but what could I say? I was a sucker for pouty lips and endlessly long legs. She sat herself down like she owned the place, leaned back in the chair, took a look around. She crossed her legs slowly, deliberately, knowing exactly what it would do to me. I started to feel the beginnings of a headache coming on.
"V," she said. "I'm in trouble." I rolled my eyes- of course she was; why else would she come back here now, after everything? She leaned forward then, a pleading expression coming into her eyes, boring into me. "I didn't know where else to turn."
I groaned. Here it came, the request. I knew she was playing me. I knew everything about this scene was perfectly calculated to get me to do what she wanted- it didn't matter. I was a big dummy, putty in the palm of her hand, and I never learned my lesson...
It's dark now. I don't know how many hours it's been. Three? Four? All I can hear is the rain outside and the sound of dripping water in here. Drip drip drip. Night must be falling, because it's getting colder. Drip drip drip. I've lost a lot of blood- starting to feel lightheaded. Drip drip. My watch has stopped- they must've broken it when they were kicking the tar out of me. I remember her shoes- bright red heels, flashing in and out of my sight between kicks. Drip. The edges of my vision are starting to go dark and things are getting fuzzy.
Damn you, Irina, I think, knowing I don't have many coherent thoughts left. As all that I am seeps out onto the floor in a flowering crimson puddle, I think back to that night. Silky hair, long legs, pouty lips. I realize her lips are painted the color of blood and I almost want to laugh- almost. Don't really know if it's funny or sad.
Drip drip drip. I can hear cars in the distance- strange to think that help is that close and yet that unreachable. Drip drip drip. Not even one last cigarette- barbarians. Drip drip. Eventually, everything slows down and all I can hear is my steadily slowing heartbeat. Bump. Ba-bump. Ba-bump. The softest feeling, like a feather brushing my lips. Ba-bump. Ba-bump. A single warm tear falling on my cheek. Ba-bump. And a voice, filled with regret.
"I'm sorry, Victor," she whispers. I don't answer- I can't. I've gone someplace where her voice can't reach me, where her tears can't touch me. I'm free.

[div class=textbox][div class=scroll]Hey guys! So, as you can probably tell by the title and tags and description and that super fun intro, Syndicated is an organized crime/Noir RP. That means private eyes, mafia families, detectives and corrupt cops, action, drama, and probably a murder or two ;P
I've been wanting to do this for aaaaaages and I'm super excited that I finally get to! Now, the setting for this RP will be present day ish, with a 40s/50s Noir flair. It's an imaginary world, so for example there will be cell phones, but no smart phones xD In terms of location, it's just a nameless city (just call it 'The City'). That way, we stay with the Noir aesthetic, and don't have to worry about too many details. If you have any questions about the setting, please just ask. I make up most of this as I go along ^^
In terms of story, the basic premise is super simple: several different groups are trying to establish themselves/come out on top. They fight over territory, resources, money, honor... And the cops and detectives and regular people weave in and out of all that. No bigger goal in mind, but I'll probably be throwing triggering events in here and there to stir the pot and help make things happen ^^
The different groups are:
- The Antonellis (Italian Mafia)
- The O'Hallorans (Irish Mob)
- The Crimson Blossom
(which is the Chinese Mafia)
- The Higashi-Gumi (Yakuza)
- The Iron Tundra (Russian Mafia)
Trigger warning! While I don't plan for this to be the darkest RP ever written, I do want us to be able to delve into dark themes and write some gritty scenes here and there, so if you can't stand things like violence, torture, murder and the like (or even drugs, sex and alcohol), this RP is not for you.
That being said, if this sounds up your alley and like something you'd be into, read on to peruse the rules!
