August 8th
10:30 AM

It has been approximately one week since the incident that trapped many innocent lives within the virtual disaster that is Audio Slave. Millions of children and adults have found themselves unable to be freed from their mental prison. What started out as a fun new experience ended in a game of survival. Even the free world was not safe. Manifestations of monsters began to appear causing havoc all over the place. No location was safe. South Africa, China, Russia, The Netherlands; havoc was erupting from out of no where.

Some players have noticed glitches in their systems. They were able to temporarily return to the real world in order to assist with tending to the chaos. Their powers present in the real world. It was fascinating. Who would have believed technology would have advanced so quickly in this day and age. It almost feels too real. Too odd.

Dream Co. has been working hard to on their latest developments. They have avoided press and responsibility on account that know one knows who is a part of the company or even where the company is centered. They have remained in the shadows for so long. A selective few of their members have been tasked with infiltrating the game and monitoring the"subjects". They are fully aware that they will not be able to leave until the "experiment" is complete. They play the part as players hoping to gain the trust of the masses and betray them later. Everyone has their own motives; money, power, or even fame among the company. However, it all ends the same. Can they really trust their own company?

Some players among the game have lost hope and seek to cause havoc for the fun of it. It was a game, so why not have a little fun? Of course, things an be a bit dangerous. Normal NPC have been known to lash out as random times causing discomfort even in the safety of towns and cities. Spawning locations of monsters have been acting strangely as well. Some higher level monsters have spawned in even new player locations. Glitches from quests have caused some to restart involuntarily. Items are sometimes not available. Maps are sometimes unresponsive. It seems each day the struggle is getting more and more difficult.

Today, players are greeted with the the usual "Welcome to Audio Slave" screen upon waking. Audi-Hunters, although not known by all, sometimes cooperate with other players in hopes of developing a plan. If hey cannot go out into the real world, the hunters can. The daily quests have been submitted. The usual ravaging monsters, escort mission, or delivering a item to an NPC in another town.

The day has begun. What will you do?

Eko Ray Williams (a.vid magi)
Main Square
Open for Interaction

"Look, kid. I told you that if I saw anything, I'd let you know." The player threw his hands up, letting out a slight sigh as he did so. "I haven't seen anything."

Eko had been through similar conversations many times over since the incident. A question, a look--pity, annoyance, confusion, disregard--a dismissal, a thank-you, a goodbye. And yet, the excruciating in-and-out cycle did not seem to last nearly as long as one would think it should; to those in the game, who now lived, breathed, worked, and thought in the dictated terms of Audio Slave perhaps it did, yet for those who were able to wake up, there was so much less time to spend. Lives had to be tended to. There was a need to eat, a need to sleep. Perhaps even a need to rest the mind. When one's relation to a game changes to such a degree, the need to spend time apart from it becomes a fresh and piercing concern.

The long-haired boy jogged lightly through the futuristic, artificial streets, a small pod comprising the entirety of his dormant instrument floating along behind him. He was growing more and more aware of those who had nothing new to say; quite a few who saw him coming shied away, others moved to pointlessly fiddle with their menus or find themselves suddenly engrossed in half-cared about conversations or visual details that conveniently pushed Eko out of their vision. Many were familiar. Some were clearly familiar with Eko himself, even if the boy had no idea who they were. More and more tried to avoid the boy with each passing day, and less and less hope remained alight in the child's heart.

Eko slowly came to a stop in the midst of the main square, wide, visible eye poking out at the world as his second remained secluded behind his long, dark hair. The odd lack of change present in the game now felt eerie in the light of it's new context, as if it had transitioned from a simple game to a true mausoleum. Many had already pointed out the irony of the game's name. The physicality of that irony, however, nearly felt all-encompassing.

With a light sigh, Eko plodded over to one of the nearby benches, pulling his feet up onto the virtual wooden planks as he tucked his knees into his chest. His hair fell around him, nearly encircling him in his own little dome of comfort. With no one left to ask, the only thing to do was watch and wait.

Watch and wait right where he always did.

Fabiana Blanco
[Queen B] lvl. 25
Location: Main Square - Inn

Fabiana leaned against the corner of the inn. Things had been getting crazy and she didn't even know where to start her investigation. She had some leads, however, nothing that was worth an in depth search. She felt as though she was getting nowhere, however, she couldn't tell anyone about it. She needed to keep her lurkings to herself. She had heard rumors about some players who were able to go back into the real world. There were so many though; how could she possibly decide.

"There has to be a way to decipher them... Maybe they use some kind of undercover. Damn... I hate just sitting here waiting for something to happen."

She began to make her way down the stairs and to the main lobby of the Inn. There, many players had gathered. Some usually would be greeted by the daily NPC's in there. However, they weren't present. Most likely on the fritz like many others. It was annoying. She supposed there was nothing she could do but conduct her daily quests.

Gabriel Dubois
[Audacity] lvl. 6

Location: Level 5 Farm Land

It had grown difficult for the young man to sleep. Things were... odd. He missed his home. His family. And he was thankful that he could go back and see them but he always got drug back here. No matter what he did. The game had almost become a second identity. He had come to the farm land to see the easy level monsters. They acted quite similar to real life animals. Though, they were much more animated and cute.

Percy Vernezai
(Lovecraft)
Location: Main Square Bench

After doing a quick check, Percy embraced his sister. It had been a least a week or two, he had forgotten to count the days, ever since what he called the Containment. H, was able to move through his world and the simulated one, but there were a few drawbacks. For instance, his sister. Someone who had loved him and cared for him, while he did the same back. Was trapped in this idiotic game, and was really comatose in the real world. He had sat on her bed many times, but even now a simulated hug was better than one only he could give. He was in the main square, sitting on a bench outside the Inn with Patience. He knew that he would have to leave in a bout an hour or so to do his daily check of his small Indiana town to protect it, but he wanted to spend as much time as possible with Patience before then. All the while, he had his serious face, conceiving a plot, looking for clues as to why this would've happened. He himself had been glitched out, allowing him the power of the hunter, but now... "It's still kinda pretty, huh?" Percy was awoken from his thoughts as Patience said something, looking up at the galaxy above their avatars heads. He thought about it as well. "If you can say one made of millions of tiny pixels, then yeah. I guess it is." Patience looked at him once more, and said "You know, you can get over me. I'm your sister, but your the one with the cool abilities as a hunter." Percy cringed, as she had said that a little too loudly. "The world, yours and mine, could use a brain like yours." He nodded, and adjusted his guitar that was sitting on his lap.

Ezra Greenman
(BTheBoss) level 15
Location: Main Square

Ezra strode into the main square like he owned the place. It would take more than getting trapped in a video game to put a damper on his spirits. Today there were new quests to be had and he needed to form a party. His last one had been short-lived since they'd thought he was lying about being stuck in the game and they'd split apart. He'd keep that to himself going forward unless it came up. He'd need at least 2 other players near his level or more if they were too far below it. He'd use the usual excuses if he needed to run if his HP got too low, he didn't want to risk dying now that he was stuck in the game.

So it was time to go looking for a group. And look at that! A level 14 player right on the bench outside the inn. Despite not having put any points in Luck Ezra was feeling lucky. Walking about to the player (Lovecraft), Ezra extended a hand.
"Hello, I'm looking to form a party. You interested?"

Arielle Aspen (-SP4)
Level 9
Edge of Town

“Thanks for the assist.” The player’s she’d ‘rescued’ offered grateful smiles as they stepped into the city. Arielle resisted the urge to roll her eyes. None of them even realized she’d made off with most of the goodies from the fight, and that they could simply have ran. Still, she knew that ingratiating herself to some of the randoms of the world would prove useful, if only to serve as cannon fodder to protect her at some later point. “I thought we were goners.” They were goners, she knew. Bunch of low leveled idiots, getting themselves in over their heads.

“No problem.” Plastering on her smile, Arielle waved them off. “The right thing to do, you know?” She’d regretted saving the idiots from almost the moment she did it. They’re voice were annoying, their mannerisms were annoying, and she was pretty sure one of them was nine years old. At least once, her fingers twitched, and she gave serious consideration to slitting someone’s throat. In the end, however, her ‘cover’ won out of the desire for violence. “I’ve gotta run, unless you guys need something else?”

“Nope. Thanks for the save Miss.” Another of them smiled her way, and she returned it, internally seething. “Wish we could thank you better-“

“Don’t worry about it.” She ruffled his hair. “This whole things going nuts, so we’ve got to stick together.”

A few more pleasantries, and Arielle slipped away, into one of the darker alleys. Glancing back to ensure she hadn’t been followed, she leaned back into a wall, scowling.

Not for the first time, Arielle regretted not getting ‘locked in’ with a Dev character instead of her own personal one. While she held a far greater attachment to the character, and it actually resembled her, as opposed to some random collection of attempts to bug-test the game, the lack of useful admin commands such as teleportation could be annoying. Then again…turning herself invincible might be a little bit cheaty, she decided. That, and it might be a little bit too obvious what her affiliations where if she was running about with some of the stupid things the other developers would do in their spare time, so she pushed those thoughts aside. Particularly because they were going to be having a ‘meeting’ that morning, and she wanted to be there a little early. Flipping her ‘headphones’ up, she set off across town, doing her best to keep to the Shadows.

Jason (xXDeathScarXx)
Level 1
Main Square-Edge

Early morning found Jason leaning against a tree at the edge of the square, doing his level best to glare at any and everyone who stepped into his field of vision. Another day of being stuck in the game made him grumpier than usual, and the remarkably blasé attitude of some of the people around him only made it worse. Still, it meant that if nothing else, people were still alive. Crossing his arms, he huffed, resigning himself to yet another miserable day. Presumably, he’d need to actually get around to questing, or whatever they called it, but that usually meant dealing with other players, and Jason did not enjoy that thought.

88Main Square
Everything was so dull. For a virtual reality based on music, the game was horrendously boring. So little music filled the air, and less the hearts of the people around her. The doom and gloom of the public were like arrows to her heart. Every passing day could be their last, and yet, these people still wander around aimlessly. Cheer up! Live a little! Smile and laugh! Despair! Rage! Cry and writhe in anguish! Anything to give a little colour to this world! Instead, it was just dull everywhere. Both in the real world and in this one, everything was just so lifeless, so subdued! Look at the faceless crowds, milling about, their ambitions strewn upon the floor, their heads hung low, their voices a murmur in the wind. It irritated her! How it infuriated her! She willed them to play, to make merry! She willed them to fight, to destroy! Of course, it didn't work.

So it was up to her, some small town girl from the corner of Malaysia or an island in China, depending on who you asked, to bring back the vibrancy to their lives. She strode right to the center of the square, her white hoodie obscuring her face. It was all about the delivery. That was the performer's way. Once she reached the center, she swept back her hood, letting her black hair spill across her shoulders. She grasped her jacket, and with a smooth motion, threw it off her shoulders. With a smirk on her face, she snapped her fingers, materialising in her hands her one and trusted partner. She gave the Fendercaster a strum, and the bricks around her shuddered in response. She adjusted the tuning, then gave another strum. This time, the ground beneath her shifted to form a seat beneath her. With nary a glance at it, as if she was already so comfortable with the applications of her power, she sat down, crossed her legs, and rested her guitar on her legs. She pointed her finger towards the crowd, as if to say ‘This one’s for you,’ then began to play.

Open to interactions [/div][/div] [div class=LyriContent]Bridgette entered the main square for yet another day. She intends to do the same things she's been doing for the past week, form a party, level them up, disband the party, and repeat. The rumors of no respawn in the game have been confirmed to be true when a brave soul decided to test it on global chat. For the time being, she doesn't see anyway out, so for now, she's gonna try to help out as many players as she can by leveling them up to avoid death.

"FORMING PARTY!! NO LEVEL REQUIREMENTS!!" Bridgette yelled at the top of her lungs from the center of the main square. "Headed to the level 8 Beachfront this time!! All are welcomed!!"

Those who've been here multiple times should be familiar with Bridgette, or "Lyri" as her usertag is. And they should be aware of what she wants to do, recruit people and level them up. The first few days weren't too successful, due to the mass panic from the inability to log out. Still though, she's slowly gaining traction, teaching newbies how to play and use different strategies. Those who stay in the residence district are aware of her efforts to patrol and clear out rogue spawns. She hadn't formed an organization yet, but she was definitely thinking of one. Bandile "Bandy" "Eldritch" Naidoo
Level 27
The Lives of Flies
Dungeon -> Main Square
Bandy just got done doing a raid with a low-mid level group. It was a nice time. The group was pleasantly swell and the boss was more than just a big meat head. He went ahead and just cheesed it though, stealing the friction from the ground and basically ice skating around it. With his high luck doing its work, he managed to get a good drop from the beast. For its level at least. After giving a farewell and hoping for their luck in the future, Bandy made his way back to the central hub. People seemed a little more quiet than usual. The performers must have been out on quests, or just resting. As per usual, someone was calling out and forming a party. Bandy recognized her though. Yea, he'd done a couple parties before!

"Hey, Lyri! Forming party again? How about an old friend joins?" Bandy brought up the proposition. There hadn't been much in term of high tier parties, so grouping up with a... friend?- Would be nice. Even if it was a low tier raid. Plus a little community service is always good. Also gives off a good image for his reputation. Since this was his new home, Bandy would want to set up a good reputation for himself.

To her, seeing a familiar face in this games means that they survived, not that Bandy would ever die. Parties with him have always been crazy. The one time she decided to join him for a high tier raid, she got to see him flex his audio power at full force.

"You know how it is, try to help as many people as I can, teach them how to survive in this world and what not. Perhaps you might be able to rub off some of that level 27 luck onto today's party." Bridgette grinned while leaning forward. "Let's see who else we can get." Patience Verenzei
(Nyx)
Location: Main Square

Life had certainly changed for Patience, ever since the Incident. There she sat, as if sitting on the bench of pixelated town full of musical magic was normal. Of course, she had gotten used to it in the week that had passed (as she had been counting the days), and made this town one of her main visiting spots. Next to her was her twin brother, Percy, who she knew felt alone. Even though in this digital world they were inches apart, he was able to awaken to a reality where she couldnt move, speak of even look at him. Nonetheless, she tried to make the best of it. PAtience looked up, and mentioned the stars. Maybe the cool galaxy of Audio Slave would- no, he still was pessimistic about it. After telling as such, someone actually approached him, and asked to be in a party with him. Smirking, Patience decided to force him to meet someone new, and wandered off. She turned around to here someone shouting, which was rare in the game at this point, and saw someone forming a party. Patience walked up to the two people standing next to the quare, and introduced herself. "I'm Nyx, mind if I join you guys?" She really did want to be with people who weren't so down all the time.

Suddenly assaulted by a different voice, Percy became a bit flustered as he found a hand shoved in his face. Maybe, if he just stuck with his sister he could- aaaand Patience was gone. great. Getting himself back together, he stood up with his cold look, and said, "Sorry, I'm a bit busy. Maybe later." As he walked off, Percy thought of what his twin said. He was an intellectual after all. He thought as he walked, and he walked all the way to the edge of town, and through some alleys as well. He stopped on a road, gathered himself again, and decided that their was no one nearby he could see, so talked out loud. "Dream Co. are the creators of Audio Slave. One of the main things people want to do is figure out who these unidentifiable faces are, and possibly kill them. That's it then," Percy said, snapping his fingers. "I some people are stuck in the game and some aren't, then there's bound to be some sort of company tester or admin option available for the game makers."

Andel Wu Ming Yu | jade.1|Level 15| Main Square

Eyes drew to him like metal to magnet, some more subtle than others, as he sat back on the bench watching the crowds shift. He wasn't sure why. Andel had one of the most normal Avatars in this game, having changed nothing but his hairstyle and glasses. He rather took offense when some people insist he must have "enhanced" his appearance, like he would need that. In fact, that was how his first player kill happened...probably.

His Instrument sat openly at his side, glinting under the sunlight, tinted slightly crimson from his previous monster hunting streak. Ah, Andel realized as his gaze fell on it, that's why they're looking at me. The so-called violin shimmered and disappeared from sight as he drew himself up to his feet. He had no plans for that day but, well, he would figure it out. Andel Wu was someone with a busy set schedule but jade.1 could do whatever the hell he wanted whenever. That was one great thing about this game world.

Just as he thought that, as if some larger being had heard and was determined to go against his will, a message rang loud in his ear. He opened it and saw the sender name, "BOSS". Andel's lips twitched, his constant smile threatening to fall. He already knew what was coming.

BOSS: Control group meeting this morning at [hidden location], go and oversee.

jade.1: Not my job, contact @-SP4 or @Degaré DeTournoie or @AS66 instead for updates on control group, thank you.

Andel could imagine the veins on the elderly man's forehead popping out from frustration upon reading his reply. He would hate himself as a subordinate, too.

BOSS: 10k. You only have to hang around the group and watch.

Andel didn't even flinch as he sent out his next message.

jade.1: 20k. Leave me alone in-game.

BOSS: And a promotion once this is over.

He paused at that but did not answer. It was obvious that offer wasn't the limit just yet. A minute of silence passed.

BOSS: And that bottle of Don Gold 1952.

jade.1: I'll head there now, Sir.

Mirth played in his almond eyes as he waved away the messages. That precious wine was something he had been aiming at for ages. Who would have thought this much was all it took to get it.

Andel stepped into the dimly lit yet classy bar with a leisurely gait and easy smile. He wondered how long he could keep this relaxed stance now that he had come to the nest of crazies.

Patience smiled. At least these people had a sense of humor, unlike most of the populace that currently resided in the square. "Level 14, for now anyways. It might not be much, but I can hit hard I want to." She held out her hand, and her staff-like microphone apparated into it. "Yeah, I wasn't really blessed with the gift of range attacks, but thankfully I know some martial arts so I can pound those suckers." Patience knew that the Level 8 Beachfront was gonna be a jog-in-the-park for the three of them, and she was glad for that. She hated being affiliate with weaker players because of her level anyway, so he at least wanted to get it to 20 in the near future.

In her head, Patience was also remembering how she had left Percy had been asked to join a party, and one of er reasons for coming over here. Quickly, she glanced over her shoulder to the bench outside of the Inn to see...the girl there, but Percy gone. Dang It, he needs to meet new people if he ever wants to get over his slightly-introverted nature.

"Nyx? Wonderful to meet you, friends call me Bandy." He shot a warm smile to the mid-tier player. If it ended up being all mid-high, then it would probably be better go to a higher level area. "Stomping gets tiring after a while. Do you have low friends? Oh yea! What's your audi? It best to see what we can do with our powers together." Synergy is the most important thing in a group. If everyone's a long range support, then they'll get stomped by anything aggressive. A hybrid is good for every party (which might be part of the reason Bandy's requested a lot.).

Bandy caught onto her attention elsewhere. He turned to Lyri. "I think she's looking for a friend. Wanna help her, or just stay?" It easily could be another mid tier player, so the point of the low raid would have been diluted even more. But it just as well could be a low tier who got lost in the chaos of the central hub.

Although she wasn't one herself Ellie had been apart of the group since there were only the original six to begin with. Her status as a council member was well-established among the group. So far they were one out of very few factions that were able to salvage a base or 'city' despite the initial panic and chaos. Gilded Cage even experienced a growth in members as more and more players began to rely on groups and guilds for safety and more importantly a place to call home.

The topic this time around centered on a self-sustaining system without the use of NPCs. The account of the in-game AI attacking players made many of its members uneasy despite the city's NPCs functioning as per-usual. With the influx in population however what really mattered was recruiting those who were willing to pick up 'occupations' such as shop tellers and instrument tuners.

"I suggest a voluntary draft for the low leveled players. Since it's less than productive for them to attend raids they should at the very least be allowed to earn their keep within the guild."

Ellie had balked at that. Orion, the guild's finance master, always had the habit of saying the nastiest things. It wasn't a secret that the two didn't see eye to eye or we're even in the same plain of existence for that matter therefore it was almost predictable that she suggest another course of action.

"We could always host a campaign! We already have many members who I'm sure would have the skill and willingness to contribute."

The clearly audible scoff that followed made her cheeks tinge with anger. Before she could retaliate however Xander stepped in.

"How would the council like to proceed? A show of hands for those that support the draft. For those who would like a campaign keep your hands down."

In the end it was decided that a campaign would be held during the following two weeks. If it managed to attract the numbers the council needed than it would be a success. If it didn't then the draft would be put into effect and with that the meeting had been concluded. Now the only thing left to do was to make the event a success; it was just the 'how' factor that Ellie hadn't really gotten to yet. Deep in thought, she descended down the Cathedral's impressive marble steps.

"Good luck on the campaign El, let me know if you need anything."

Startled, she glanced up meeting the bright eyes of LilyLee the guild's famous raid lieutenant. Not only is she considered an international in-game idol but is also admired for her strength and proficiency in pvp combat.

"Ah! Thank you. I need all the help I can get..."

Lily smiled, taking a few steps forward before gesturing for Ellie to follow. They walked through the Gilded Cage's cobbled streets. Unlike the futuristic build most of Audio Slave advertised their base had incorporated a very grand European design with marble columns and an abundance of beautiful townhouses. There were also manors for players who could afford the upkeep located on their own plot of land. The amount of resources it took to create such a city couldn't have been possible without the dedication of the group and it's members. Having been there for nearly the entire process, Ellie couldn't help but be in awe every time she had the chance to admire her home.

"You two really don't get along do you." Lily suddenly stated.

Ellie immediately knew who she was referring to. Orion was a lot of things but he was also a leader and despite his nature he got along fairly well with the rest. She never really got a chance to see their friendship in action as he tended to disappear constantly.

"You know he isn't always like that" Lily continued,"He has a bad habit of being inconsiderate and childish but beyond the bad attitude- oh we're here."

Ellie glanced around and realized that they had traveled all the way to the 'city entrance' or transfer pad. All bases and major cities had them and depending on your level and where you've been in-game you could choose where to be materialized. Their pad was circular in design with ambient blue light crisscrossing it's metallic surface. Five miniature drones we're hovering aimlessly above it ready to 'transport' players.

"Are we going somewhere?" Ellie asked, a bit perplexed.

"Yes you are. The best place to get any advertisement done is in the game's main city square. Maybe you'll even get your inspiration there." Lily added, winking.

At the suggestion Ellie's eye lit up excitedly. She thanked Lily for the advice and promptly stepped onto the pad and chose her destination.

As soon as Shin had awoken that day a flashing pink Dream Co logo had greeted him. Acknowledging the floating little symbol caused it to burst into a flurry of pixels and transform into a thin beige folder of papers. He stopped for a brief second to glance at the happy face unceremoniously stamped onto it's surface before proceeding to examine it's contents. The first document was a brief message from an [unknown sender] stating that a meeting would be held for all Dream Co control group personal. 'Attendance is mandatory' was red and bolded at the bottom of the message. The rest of the papers were profiles of the members that he had been shown before and required to memorize. This time however little scribbled notes were added on the side that read things like 'psychopath -needs hugs' or 'Eye candy chu chu chu'. It didn't seem to phase him as he continued to read the strange writings before closing the folder. As soon as he did it began to dissolve in a series of coded numbers as if being shredded in real time. By the time it had fully disappeared he had already left the room.

It only took a few seconds before the bright, vivid lights of the 'Main Square' greeted her. Ellie remembered the first time she was dazzled by the futuristic city in front of her and despite everything that had happened she couldn't seem to hate what Dream Co had created. While the area was always admittedly crowded it was considerably packed this time around. She was just about to ask a passing player what was going on when the sound of guitar strings reached her ears. Someone was playing a live performance! And by the sound of it their skills were very impressive.

An idea suddenly struck her; she could host a live performance to attract crowds during the campaign event! First things first however was to form a 'band' and if she could somehow manage to convince whoever was playing to join then all the better. Unfortunately, Ellie was just at the right height that she could barely struggle to see over the heads of on-lookers much less the IGN the performer. Exasperated she was nearly ready to just haphazardly squish her way through the wall of people when a shadow fell over her. Glancing up she was met with a strange pair of gold eyes.

"A-ah sorry!" She said, spinning around quickly to properly face the stranger. Their expression remained oddly blank and if it wasn't for the subtle nod she wouldn't have been sure if they even heard her. As they turned to leave however she suddenly jumped in front of them, hands in the air and a little flustered at her less than graceful reaction.

"I was wondering if you could help me out really quickly! I just need to know the name of the performer up there." She pointed towards the middle of the square.

Again, they didn't look as if they were processing anything of what she was saying but just as she feared that they might possibly be annoyed at her request they had turned to face the direction she had been gesturing at. A sigh of relief escaped her but just as she was about to thank them for their help they unexpectedly materialized their instrument. It's midnight black, oblong shape was something she had never seen before. She watched in a mix of confusion and curiosity as long, slender fingers drummed across its sleek surface. As soon as she could make out the faint melody of a piano a strange, unnerving force pushed itself past her.

Before Ellie knew it a path had been forcibly made through the crowd. Many just looked confused and a bit dazed but for the unfortunate ones who were in the middle of the 'blast' they were either sprawled on the ground or awkwardly shoved in between legs and other bodies. Wide eyed and extremely dumbfounded, Ellie's mind blanked as she took a hold of the stranger's hand and high tailed it out of there.

Shin watched as the girl in front of him continued to gulp in air. After she had ran off with him in tow they had ended up in a little back alley nook dimly lit with holographic adverts and neon lights. As soon as her breathing began to even out she stared at him with the same wide eyed look she did before.

"What was that?!" She suddenly burst out.

Shin wasn't sure how to answer that question and so remained silent. That response seemed to agitate her but after a few more deep breathes she seemed to regain a calm disposition.

"I...that...why did you do that?"

"So you could see the name of the performer."

This time he was met with silence. As it continued Shin could see that she had pursed her lips and furrowed her brows. Then like a dam had broken laughter spilled out of her in waves. Loud and soft, like a chorus of jingling bells. He watched as she held her sides and tears caught at the corners of her crinkled eyes. Slowly, the laughter began to filter out until she stood there smiling.

"What a strange answer! I wonder why we haven't had the chance to meet...AS66?"

Shin tilted his head in response. Despite the option of group play he had found it more efficient to solo.

"Well...my IGN is Elliephant but you can call me Ellie. Hopefully we can meet again."

Shin nodded, noting the new information before exiting the alley.

That was possibly the most ridiculous thing she had ever experienced in quite a while and it was oddly refreshing. AS66 was a perplexing person himself considering the fact that he was considerably high level, had an eye-opening ability, and yet he wasn't well known. Ellie was curious but it wasn't as if she wanted to take up anymore of his time. Hopefully they really would get the chance to meet again. As she turned to exit the alley she felt an odd tugging sensation beneath her right shoe. Bending down she picked up a grey and black glove emblazoned with miniature pink hearts. With a start she realized that it belonged to AS66. It must've fallen when she had pulled the both of them haphazardly into the hidden space.

Upon that realization Ellie immediately bolted into the open streets, the glove clutched tightly in her hands.

"AS66!! Wait you're glove-!" She yelled, struggling to push through the flow of the crowd but it was useless. By the time she made it past he had already disappeared.

By a stroke of luck Ellie had steered them about a block away from where the meeting would be held. It only took a few seconds to navigate through the crowd and find the underground bar, Black Lamb. Upon entering Shin was greeted with the subtle clinking of cocktail glasses and the rich aroma of aged alcohol. Between the wood-steel hybrid paneling and the gravitational chandeliers it was clear that this was a high-end establishment. There were only a few patrons, most having ordered coffee considering the early morning hours.

Glancing around there didn't seem to be any of the control group members in sight. It was understandable seeing as the meeting was due to take place in an hour or so. There was however a familiar face that he could make out within the dim space. During his preliminary tests for the game he had encountered many Dream Co staff and among them was Andel Yu. He had mostly been standing in the corner of the room or behind glass walls but his sharp eyes stood out among the rest. His profile had also been apart of the list although it didn't specify his role within the control group.

Shin approached the man before wordlessly taking a seat near him. Pleasantries were usually initiated at this point or so he's observed. With quite possibly the most out of place yet genuine 'Good morning' someone could muster, Shin somehow managed to unabashedly say the piece.

Patience smiled, and knew that her assumption was right. Peaceful faces will usually mean peaceful people after all. "Yeah, I'm level 14 and kickin, My bro- friend is the same as I and we haven't really done that much fighting since the collapse. Oh, my Audi?" She held up ehr staff allowing the two characters to see the large circular microphone at the end of it. "It's teleportation, which sounds pretty dope, but really I do most of the melee stuff myself. What about you guys?"

Leaning against the wall of the nearest building, Arielle could hear some commotion coming back from the nearby square. Before she could slink back that way, however, the helpful chime of a message filled her ears, twisting her lips into a scowl. “I’m gonna strangle Alex.” At least, she was pretty sure Alex programmed that noise. Maybe not. Nothing in the message was out of the ordinary, just a snarky reminder about the meeting, which she summarily ignored. Another person she might stab later on when all this was said and done. Assuming, of course, she could hunt down whichever one of her colleagues sent the damn thing.

Still, she did need to get moving. Rolling her shoulders, she turned to set off down the alley, when someone came around the ‘corner’, in the direction she was headed. They seemed to be lost in thought…or just outright lost. Glasses, unassuming clothes. While messing with the guy could be fun, she did have a schedule to keep.

“Hey!” Slipping back into her cheerful persona, Arielle waved. “You lost?”

From the center of the square, a general commotion began to form around a woman, who was yelling something about forming a party. From what Jason could hear, it was for an area that was well above his level, which he wanted nothing to do with. Still, as he watched, quite a few other players, started to cluster around her. While he didn’t want to deal with anything remotely close to that many people, he did need to at least do something for the day. Shoving his hands into his pockets, Jason pushed off the tree, ambling across the square without a whole lot of energy in his step.

“You said your taking anybody right?” As he got closer, her addressed the woman who’d been doing the initial shouting.

Bandy was always more than happy to show off his ability. Although outside of combat, it's a bit more difficult to show its full extent. "Simple!" He exclaimed while taking Nyx's hand. "I take." With The Lives of Flies, Bandy took away her hearing. "Like this." A bit of showing off. With her hearing returned, he continued, this time swapping their voices. "And I give." Nyx's voice went through Bandy's mouth. Of course, he returned it. "Along with a little more that'd be rude to use here."

Another person arrived. A fresh spawn as well. Bandy saw the name and held back his laugh. It wasn't the edgiest he'd seen (Eldritch cough cough) But regardless, names didn't matter. He was very much welcome. "Of course! And if you need help-" Bandy wrapped an arm around Lyri, pulling her into him. "Mommy and Daddy are here for you." He joked through his grin.

That was the easiest answer after all, though he could easily find his way out f the small complex of alleys.

Andel Wu Ming Yu | jade.1|Level 15 | Black Lamb

Andel sat alone in a secluded booth, fingers drumming to the slow rhythm of the background music, silently observing the scarce patrons of the Black Lamb. A slender glass of coffee sat untouched in front of him, ice cubes sparkling under the soft stream of light. He could have been mistaken for an NPC with how little he strayed from his repeated actions.

Minutes ticked by in silence. His attire, a simple shirt tucked into dress pants, was getting slowly too thin for the air-conditioned surroundings. Occasionally, his gaze flickered to the entrance of the bar, searching. He had either been given the wrong information about the meeting time or the control groups members had unitedly decided to be very late. Considering how irked his boss had likely been at the loss of his precious wine, Andel figured it was the former.

The music switched, then, to some guitar solo he'd never heard before. The ringing sound brought some sort of familiarity to his mind. Oh, right, that girl. The one thing who was still his responsibility in-game: 88, a youtuber that the PR department had only recently hooked. He brought up his messages tab again.

jade.1: Morning, Erica. If you're free now, come join me at the Black Lamb bar @ [hidden coordinates]. There's a Dream Co. event. See you.

He closed the floating words, not really caring to wait for her reply. She rarely ever did reply, anyway, being as quiet over text as she was in real life.

Left with nothing to occupy him, his mind began to wander. It wandered to his cat, Leslie, whether she was being taken care of properly or he would have to find yet another new housekeeper. It wandered to the stalker who was fond of camping outside his house and who had better be in jail by now, else he would seriously worry for his real body. It wandered to his job and how he was going to be drowned in paperwork then shredded by clients once he got back.

Suddenly, he regretted not ordering alcohol.

Just before his thoughts could take a further turn down depressing lane, he saw a blurred figured moving toward him from the door. His gaze snapped up and zeroed in on the source of intrusion to find, at last, a familiar face.

AS66, also known as Shin Akiyama, the son of his superior's superior and therefore someone to keep an eye on. Andel was technically only supposed to know him as a member of Dream Co's recruited undercover players but, well, he was also technically only supposed to be a mid-level manager rather than executive. As it was, it tended to be a habit of powerful men to become loose with their secrets in pillowtalk.

Not only that, Level 26. That was an impressive height to reach, for a player, even associated with Dream Co. as they were. Granted, Shin had likely been playing for quite a while now but, still. Andel's lips lifted, softening the impact of his piercing gaze, as he turned to face the new addition to the table.

"Morning," he returned, pushing his tinted glasses to rest on top of his head. He had perfect eyesight in this world, thankfully.

"Andel," he introduced himself, stretching out an open palm to shake, "or jade.1, I suppose. We've met before, haven't we?"

After the incident Ellie had continued to try and find AS66. Just as expected however randomly wandering the streets and back alleyways did her no favors. The main city was a sprawling, futuristic maze filled to the brim with a large portion of the in-game population. It attracted many gamers considering the fact that it was one of the safest, monster-free zones in the game as assured by the generous players who were daring enough to map the world out.

With a sigh Ellie glanced down at the glove in her hand. She had asked several people if they had seen anyone who might've been wearing another matching pair but ironically she didn't have much luck. On a more positive note there was still plenty of time before nightfall and the streets were finally becoming more manageable as the masses dispersed. With a renewed sense of optimism she forged onward into another, more spacious alleyway.

That's when she heard a curious conversation that had her stopping in her tracks. Glancing around she could just make out the two figures conversing only a feet or so away. From what she had made out it sounded like one of them was lost. Ellie had taken a few steps backward before once again looking down at the glove. Scrunching her brows, Ellie stuffed it onto her right hand, the fingertips hanging loosely over her own. 'Sorry AS66, I'm only going to be borrowing this for a little while...'

"Hello!" Ellie called, smiling as she approached the two individuals, "I heard that one of you may be lost? I have an updated map if you want to link-share."

While the curt response, could be described as off putting, Arielle didn’t let her smile fade. “Way back should be back just that way.” She gestured towards the square. “Unless the whacko’s have started messing with maps too or something.” She was reasonably certain that wouldn’t happen without some degree of forewarning, but her colleagues were not exactly the sort known for their considerate nature. Even as she spoke another player with the amusing tag of ‘Elliephant’ showed up, offering an updated map. Something Arielle didn’t need, as she’d made sure to update all of hers before the experiment started up.

“I updated mine yesterday.” Arielle offered a friendly nod to the new player. “Appreciate the thought though.” Glancing between the two she sighed. “I’d stay and talk, but I’m super late for something, and I really need to run.” Strictly speaking, she wasn’t late for the meeting, yet, but she did want to get moving. “I’m guessing I’ll see you guys around?” Pausing only a moment to wait for an answer, she darted off down the alley, taking a few quick turns, before making her way back towards the meeting location.

The Black Lamb was hardly her choice of meeting point, but from what she knew, she wasn’t the most important Dream Co. employee stuck in game, and definitely not the highest level in game, so trying to force the issue wouldn’t achieve anything. Giving the building a quick once over, she nodded to herself before stepping inside, quickly identifying where at least two members of their little ‘group’ where sitting.

Sliding into a seat, she nodded to them both. “Morning.”

Nothing about the joke amused Jason, although he did his best to fake a grin. The impressive list of player levels they’d assembled made his heart race a little less at the thought of hunting monsters.

“Sure, I’ll tag along.” Jason shrugged. While his power should keep him out of danger in a higher leveled area, he’d probably let them do most of the fighting. When Lyri suggested inviting the girl performing on the far side of the square, Jason shrugged. “More people can’t hurt?” Less chance of something trying to eat his face.
