Lost Martian

Average Person
The modern age of the superhero began with the turn of the century. In the year 2000, Spider-Man would first swing over New York City, the Fantastic Four would go to space and gain their powers, and the first public whisperings of mutants existing would happen. In the following years many more powered individuals, both heroic and villainous, would appear, greatly changing the world.

People would look up to groups like the Avengers and X-Men, this need to be protected becoming a popular thing. Of course not all of these powered people would operate publicly, as organizations like SHIELD and HYDRA would exist in the shadows. As time passed, these heroes would get older, many of them starting families, which meant some of them also began retiring from crime fighting.

The last major crisis was ten years ago when the world devourer Galactus tried to consume the Earth for a final time. The heroes, and some villains, of the world would unite, ultimately being able to destroy Galactus once and for all, though it cost many lives. Following this crisis, the vast majority of powered individuals retired.

Since then the Earth has mostly been at peace, with mutants finally becoming more widely accepted, and humanity making peace deals with various alien empires. Thus the Avengers went on to be a backup team and Xavier’s Institute was closed, becoming a museum of mutant history.

However in the last year, things have started picking up again. Rumors abound about HYDRA and AIM being back, as well as a new generation of mutants who are using their powers for crime, and various aliens operating on Earth illegally. Wishing to address these issues, as well as train these new super-powered youths, SHIELD director Monica Chang has started the A-NEXT Initiative.

Making use of the long abandoned Avengers Mansion, Director Chang and SHIELD as a whole would make a training center for teenage superheroes, to guide them down the right road. Besides a mix of schooling and practical training, the A-NEXT members are allowed to fight crime, but with SHIELD oversight.

So as the first class of A-NEXT begins, the retired superheroes around the world are anxiously waiting to see what this new generation of superheroes will bring to protect the peace.

So the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game is fairly new, so I don’t expect a majority, or possibly any, of people to be familiar with it, but I would like to give it a try, as I’m willing to teach it. Using a simple 3d6 system, Marvel Multiverse RPG is a quick and cinematic game where you aren’t bogged down with a ton of numbers to sort through, just needing to know addition and single digit multiplication.

For those not familiar with the game I suggest watching the official how to play video made by Marvel themselves: link here. If you are still are interested in this, but don’t own the books, please PM me and I can help.

As far as the characters you will be playing, they will be teenagers who are a part of the new generation of powered individuals. This can mean that you are a child of a canon hero or villain, a new character taking up a familiar mantle like Moon Knight or Ghost Rider, or a fully original character as long as they fit in the Marvel universe.

As far as rules and character building goes, I have decided that you will be playing Rank 3 characters, and that I will allow for pretty much any powers combination as long as it abides by the power selection rules in the core book.

So if this sounds interesting, please feel free to make a character, as I am open to many different ideas. This system is pretty simple and there are multiple people in this role-play who are ready to answer any system questions and can provide the books if needed. But yeah, let’s start a conversation here as we plan this roleplay.

I'll have to get my sheet up probably tomorrow night, almost 20 hours from now.

Remind me again,if one has only a run speed and does not have a power that grants a climb/swim/swing/fly speed, how are those determined?

Alright, got my CS transferred over as well, ahead of schedule. Hopefully our fellow participants can get theirs done soon, too.

So if not augmented by powers, climb, jump, and swim speed is half your run speed. You don’t have a swing or flight speed without taking the respective power for each.

Also both Ayurda and Millie are accepted. I really like the direction both of you are headed with your character choices. We have three more potential players who have expressed an interest in a post, so we are waiting for them. Also if anyone is reading this and is interested but haven’t expressed it in a post, feel free to mention it here. This is a really easy system and we’ve got a very committed group so far who would be happy to teach this role-playing system.

Do we round decimals up or down,or keep them as is?

Also,is there a specific requirement to wield both types of melee weapon or multiple elements? I was thinking of having Hemostat default to Sharp, forming blades in the manner Carnage does,or even alternate between both. But if that's inadequately heroic I can do Blunt.

I have two base character concepts as of this moment right now, but I still need to go find my PDFs of the books to figure out which one works best. But I will tell you guys about them now because I am indecisive:
- Child of Quicksilver, has metal control like their gramps, used to be a villain but has since changed their ways (is on a Hero Probation Period).
- Daughter of Thor, is basically just a smaller and meaner version of her father, has a big fuck you sentient sword named Ingrid and can control lightning.

Quicksilver Jr. sounds like an interesting character,a former villain isn't an idea that's come up in this group yet and the elemental power set is fun and versatile.

However, having another demigod on the team after Ayurda would be an interesting dynamic too, with their presumably contrasting personalities and divine aspects.

is there one that you would rather see over the other? both noah (quicksilver jr) and torunn (thor dottir) are my babies so i'm down to play either. noah was originally created for a game of masks, though, so they might be the best one to transfer over? but i love thor....

Both concepts are interesting, but I feel like Thor's daughter and Ayurda would have a lot of personal issues, which would be interesting to see. Not only do their Pantheons view things differently, but Ayurda is very much a "Do not kill your opponents, but bring them to justice." and sounds like Thor's daughter is more about the keen edge of her sword...

So I had to look this up online, as I couldn’t find it in the rulebook, but the consensus is that you round up. Even if that turns out to be untrue, I am going to make things easier for everyone by just saying it is a house rule that you always round up. As far as using multiple weapon types or elemental powers, I will say that you can use whatever ones you possess at the same time, but when doing an actual attack roll you have to pick one type. And I’m fine with Hemostat using blades, as we do have canon heroes with sharp weapons like Wolverine. It would all be up to Hemostat to use them without killing people.

I like both ideas, though I would be curious who the mothers are of the two of them. Torunn would be nice as you would immediately have plot connection with Ayurda as you are both the kids of gods, while Noah would be cool with all of his legacy history, and we don’t actually have any mutants yet. So it is totally up to you. Perhaps after reading through the core rulebook, you can pick whichever character you like more mechanically. And speaking of the rulebooks, if you still don’t have a copy, please PM me and I will send them to you.

Hey, just checking in if you guys have migrated over to the OOC thread. I would like to hear what kind of characters you have in mind.

Also, if anyone else needs the books, please PM me so I know to send them your way.

I think once I give the rules and everything a nice scan, I'll firmly settle on what I wanna do in terms of character!

So would our characters be just starting out as superheroes?

I would imagine that either they just started but have made some sort of public display of their abilities OR have been undertaking superhero activities for a while, but have yet to really face major threats and make a name for themselves.

That's why they're being recruited to a group of fellow young heroes, after all.

Yes I do intend for you guys to just be starting as heroes. As far as your character is concerned, they are perfectly acceptable stat wise, the only issue I have being with her back story. I mentioned that I was looking for teenage characters for the A-NEXT initiative, so your character is a little bit too old at 23. You could do like Red Shadow Claws and make her a university student at 18, or perhaps you can say because of her high logic score that maybe she attended university early and had already graduated at 18, keeping the age range for this roleplay and still allowing the same profession. Also the X-Men aren’t a thing anymore, not since the final battle with Galactus. I kinda intend with this that are no really active hero teams anymore so A-NEXT would be the first team operating in this new era.

I like the picture.

If anyone needs help with their character sheets, please let me know here as I am ready to answer any questions.

I see. I had forgotten the teenage thing and don't know much about the comic universe.

My apologies for not being around this past week, as both general real life and pressing family issues have taken up all of my time. Anyways I’m trying to catch up on all my roleplays in a day or two, so expect a post tomorrow where I address everyone properly.
