Arcana Officer Academy

C9yPFuQ.png

Since the beginning of the world's foundation, the world has been divided into those who could use magic and those who could not magic. Beings who can use, command and control magic are called Mages. Those who do not have magic are called Nomage. Those who can use magic have an edge in life compared to those who cannot use magic. Because of that, there was much discrimination towards Nomage with the Mage often looking down on Nomage thinking that they were better. The discrimination was more noted in the more powerful mages and the royal family that they belonged to.

That all changed 50 years ago when the power shift changed for the Nomage. This change was done by a man named Thomas Edison. Thomas Edison was a Nomage but he created new technologies using sources of magic to power it. He called it Mana Tech. With Mana Tech, the Nomages were now able to use magic just like the Mages. Having faced discrimination from the Mages for so long, the Nomages declared war against the Mages particularly those of the ruling royal family.

The war resulted in a split in the country. The Nomage were able to drive the Mages out and establish their domain. They named their domain Utopia. While the Mages called their domain, Arcana. With the Nomages hunting down magical creatures for their source of magic, they continue to improve their Mana tech. They made an even bigger breakthrough when they discovered that if they could kill a Mage, they could extract their magic and turn it into weapons. This further increased their weapon development to a point where the Nomage could use magic even though they were not born with it. It has been rumored that after killing a Mage, the NoMage can take their magical abilities and the spells that they learned throughout their lifetime and use it as their own.

With the toll increasing in number on both sides, the 12 ruling families of Arcana decided to create an Academy to train soldiers so that they could join the war. They enlisted all children with great magical abilities and potential to attend the academy. Little do they know that NoMage has learned about this academy and started to implant themselves within the academy to spy on them and learn their magical secrets to foster and improve their technology.

Xadia WhiteLeaf

It was early evening. The sun was setting in the courtyard, and a large crowd of young adults was standing around. They were either talking or socializing. Most are meeting each other for the first time. What is distinguishable among the young adults was that they were all wearing a school uniform, so almost everyone matched in clothing. Among the crowd of young adults stood a young man. He was brown skinned, and his head was shaved. What he lacked in hair on the top of his head, he made up for with his full grown beard. Many will think that he is older, but he is, in fact, still young. He was 23 years old. He is also not the tallest guy. He was only 5'5 while most other men are usually 5'8. He was one of the few who stood alone and did not talk to anyone. His name was Xadia WhiteLeaf.

He looked upon the students. He watched and observed them as they socialized. His arms were crossed across his chest as he looked forward. He glanced at the podium where the professors would be coming in to address the first years of the Arcana Officer Academy. The Arcana Officer Academy was created to train officers or soldiers for the Arcana army. They were currently at war with another domain called Utopia. The domain consisted of mostly Nomages as they were finally fed up with how they were being treated by Mages for lack of magical ability. But now, some of the Mages decided to side with Utopia as they were unsatisfied with the ruling royal family. The 10 Royal families that ruled Arcana, with the Solvaris family leading the other families and Arcana.

As for Xadia, he was with Utopia. He is a Nomage, but he was able to sneak in secretly and become a first-year student at the Arcana Officer Academy. He was a spy for Utopia. But he was not the only spy. There were other Nomage here at the academy. He knew them, but in an effort not to bring attention to themselves, they agreed that it was best that they didn't know each other. And they were not completely alone. At the Arcana Officer Academy, there is a professor that was for their cause. It is partly because of that professor that they were able to sneak in. However, they do not know who that professor is at the academy that is helping them. Their identity is a secret. And it is probably for the best.

Xadia looked at the first-year students again. Enemies. They were all his enemies. He was behind enemy lines, and one wrong move would result in his execution. Xadia looked over to the stage. They were informed that the professors would be gathering on the stage where they would be evaluated with a magic orb. The magic orb is supposed to measure the student's magical capacity as well as determine what their magical affinity is. Xadia knew that since he was Nomage, his magical capacity would be low, and his magical affinity might be undetermined.

⸸ Octavio de La Cruz. ⸸

It was early evening and the sun was setting, but Octavio was covered as always. He was walking somewhat slowly towards the Academy from the middle path, but he didn't cared. He had a suitcase in his right hand, carrying on his things (mostly from his profession). When he entered through the enormous principal gate he started walking towards the podium with more speed. He then placed himself behind the podium and placed his suitcase in the right side of it. He grabbed the microphone and tested it.

— Hmm... testing, 1, 2, 3, 4.

Then, he accomodated his glasses and looked at what the podium had: it had a paper with the fine presentation to the Arcana Officer Academy, that text made by one of the prolifics redactors of it and its design made by one of his most eccentrics illustrators. Octavio looked to the crowd of young adults and then started talking.

— Well... welcome to you all, both men and women, to the prestigious Arcana Officer Academy.

He started saying with his elegant, formal yet cold tone. He then saw again to the presentation paper and started reading.

— Today we have a great event, one that means the beggining of everything, everything new. At this day, everyone will become a Arcana Officer Academy student, and that does means that you're all going to be trained both physically and intellectually to face the true enemy: the Nomages and the whole country that is Utopia. Strong soldiers is what is needed, and here we made the agreement to lead our students to the excellence. But not only that: strategy and intelligence is something that perfectly completes the strength, because an irrational, brute strength leads to nothing, meanwhile a great, brilliant mind becomes stagnant without any drive. So by being here you're all going to agree that you will put your sweat, blood and tears to become the most powerful, capable and the best soldiers of our great, powerful and loved nation. By saying this, we can all enter to our classrooms and we wish to you a wonderful, productive and busy day.

Meanwhile he was musing the speech, he glanced to the students from time to time. He observed them all, including Xadia WhiteLeaf. When Octavio ended the speech, he grabbed again his suitcase, turned around his heels and walked away quickly, as if he wasn't liking or wanting to being there.

Oneth Solvaris

An elderly man walked into the courtyard filled with first-year students. Though he may appear to be old, his appearance showed that he was wise according to his years. And despite being olderly, there is a whiff of maturity, discipline and authority the man commanded as well as being handsome. Anyone would guess that if he were younger, he would easily be the most attractive person around. Every woman would still fall for him. Of course, if he wanted to, he would still be able to woo a woman to his bed. Not to mention that he was the former Emperor of the Arcadia. But his position right now is being the Dean and Headmaster of the Arcana Officer Academy. His name was Oneth Solvaris. As his last name suggested, he is from the Solvaris Royal Family. It is his son who is currently sitting on the throne and leading the charge against Utopia.

This whole academy was his son's idea to foster the new generation for war against Utopia. The war has been going on far too long, and Oneth cannot believe that they, the Mages, are having difficulty in subjugating the Nomages. Those lowly vermin who can't use magic are putting up a fight against the Chosen One who can wield and bless by mana. Nonetheless, his son has asked him to become the Dean of this school and to train the students into soldiers.

He looked at the students in the courtyard. Some of them were frightened, and some of them were excited. The starting age to enter into the academy was at least 18 years of age. Of course, if anyone wants to join the academy younger than that, they are more than welcome to. But it would be better if the students entering the academy were a little bit more mature than teenagers. Also, during their teenage years, they would have at least the basic mastery over their magic. Because entering the academy is a risk. Their training regime is tough. And tough meaning life and death tough. It is no common knowledge that students can die here at the academy during their exams and tests. Students may even kill another student, and that student will not be penalized for killing them. It would just show how strong a person is and their value to the Arcana Domain.

As the elderly man stood in the courtyard, the first-year students immediately recognized him and started to pay their respects to him. Not only because he was the Dean but also because he is from Solvaris Family as they all should be. He looked over to Octavio as he came onto the stage and gave his introductory speech to the students. As he was giving his speech and introduction to the first-year students, Oneth looked to the crowd of first-year students. He started to feel out first-year mana to see how much they have. There were some promising students in this batch. Mostly, the promising ones are from the Royal Family. The ones that are not from the royal family have a decent amount of mana. Then there were some stragglers where there was no mana being emitted. Oneth looked over to Xadia in particular. There was no mana emitting from that bald brown skin man. One might even label him as Nomage since he really can't detect any mana from him. Oneth expects Xadia not to survive here for too long.

As Octavio concluded his speech, he quickly walked away. The man was obviously disdain in giving the opening speech, but it did not matter to Oneth. As Octavio left the podium, Oneth instantly teleported from where he was standing in the courtyard to the center stage. The students were surprised at the sudden appearance of Oneth. They would need to get to use to as one of Oneth's magical affinities was to space magic.

"Good day, first years. I am sure I do not need any introduction. My name is Oneth Solvaris. I am the Dean and Headmaster here at this Academy. You may call me Headmaster Oneth. There is no need to call me by my last name. As Prof. Cruz mentioned, we are here to train you to become soldiers. And that training will be brutal," said Oneth as he took a pause. He looked at all the first-year students, studying their reaction, their gaze upon him.

"I want you to take a look at the person next to you. Do not stay attached to that person, for there is a possibility that the person standing next to you will die. That is how tough our curriculum is. Your life is on the line, and if you fail, it may well cost you your life. And it does matter which family you are from. Only the strong will survive, and the weak will be devoured," said Oneth. The students started to whisper to each other. Some say that the rumors are true and that you can die here at this academy. He can hear some from the royal family saying that they can't possibly die. But it is true. It does not matter which family you come from. The only strength is what the Arcana desire. Special privileges to the royal family do not exist well on the surface level anyway.

"The curriculum is simple. You will learn battle tactics, you will specialize in the magical affinity you have and improve upon it, you will engage in mock battles, and you will also go into the chasm to train and fight against magical creatures. Magical creatures where, if you are not careful, may kill you. Anyone can go down into the chasm, which is located at the bottom level of the Academy, to improve your battle skills, your spells, and mock battles," explained Oneth.

"To pass your first year, you must obtain a certain amount of credits. Credits are calculated based on your performances. If you are lacking in credit, you may venture down into the Chasm and defeat and kill magical creatures down there. Depending on how strong the magical creatures that are down there are, you will be rewarded credits according to their strength," said Oneth.

"Failure to obtain a certain amount of credits will result in either leaving the academy or repeating the first year. That is if you are still alive to do so." said Oneth. As he was speaking, his staff started to bring out multiple tables with a crystal orb center of it.

"Before we begin, it is important to know what your magical capacity is and what your magical affinity is. You will form a line at each of these tables and let the Mana Evaluvator evaluate your mana and your potential. Once you do, your homeroom professor will guide you and train you accordingly. I wish you the best of luck," said Oneth. As he said that, he then disappeared again from the podium, allowing the students to line up to their appropriate tables to determine what their mana capacity and what magical affinity they have.

SOBEL WAXTON.

Meanwhile, while Oneth was speeching in the podium, he would see a young elf man running towards the courtyard where the first-year students where standing. He was looking somewhat nervous and had some under-eye circles of black color. He was looking his surroundings nervously and then he just placed himself in one of the lines.

When he did so, he just waited for his turn to put his hand on the Mana Evaluator. He looked around again, a bit paranoid-like. He looked to his left side and saw nothing more than the rest of the Academy building and some trees. He looked to his right side and saw many of the other students. He saw again to his front and saw that the line of students was becoming short, until it was his turn.

Sobel looked at the crystall ball in front of him. He suddenly putted a serious, almost focused expression on his face and putted his right hand above the crystal ball. Thinking that nothing would happen (Sobel always had a low self-steem and nothing of self confidence) he just looked at the crystal ball with some exhaustion, but then it started to shine strongly in a white hue and suddenly the crystal ball with its table EXPLODED violently.

Sobel, the young elf, jumped back shocked and almost covered himself with his arms, thinking that the explosion or something more would hit him. Then, he noticed that nothing more happened and just looked in front of him: the table with the crystal orb exploded and just left a black spot, a blast residue. Sobel is now intrigued, confused, still shocked. How the fuck would he manage to make that orb explode? It was him or something on it was defective? The last thing was impossible since the table with the orb came from a powerful mana source, the Headmaster Oneth's staff, the staff of the last Emperor in the country, the most powerful person in it.

— OH NO!!! OH NO NO NO!!!

He said in anguish. Now, Sobel's feeling anxiety, he would be punished because of this? He would be killed? He would be tortured? He then felt annoyed and just made an irritated sign with his right arm.

— UH!!! Nevermind... I've always knew my affinity.

⸸ Octavio de La Cruz. ⸸

The man was standing inside the Academy building, in one of its halls. He was grabbing his suitcase and was waiting for Oneth Solvaris to enter where he was standing. He wanted to say something to him, so he waited for him to end his own speech. When he saw Oneth walking inside the academy, Octavio approached him and explained to him a issue in his serious, cold tone.

— Hello again, Headmaster Oneth. I was going to say to you that my surname is "de La Cruz", not only "Cruz".

He told to him in a slight tone of annoyance, his eyebrows barely frowned behind his vintage round glasses.

Xadia WhiteLeaf

Xadia continues to stay, quiet and unengaged. He knew that he should not be anti-social. He had to fit into the school community to avoid suspicion. He glanced around and he can already see a few of his comrades in arms here in the courtyard. However, they made it a point to not socialize with each other. Another means to avoid suspicion but it is for our protection.

Just then, a Professor came to the podium and started to speak to the first-year class. The professor made an introductory speech congratulating the students on being here. He went on to tell them that this school would make soldiers in the war against Utopia. Not only will they focus on strength, but they will also train them in strategy and intelligence.

Then shortly afterwards, the Headmaster made an appearance. He appeared out of nowhere, though that was to be expected from the information he obtained from their inside man. Headmaster Oneth is the former Emperor of Arcana and belongs to the Solvaris family. One of his magical affinities is Space magic. He can travel through space. The Headmaster possibly may have used the teleportation spell to appear on the podium. The teleportation spell is a basic spell for Space Magic but the distance one is able to travel depends on their mana capacity. So the headmaster may be able to teleport great distances. Though, Xadia has a suspicion he was nearby observing the first year students.

Oneth made his speech. He warned that students would die here because their training is so brutal. He laid out what was require to pass their first year, which was to obtain credits through various tests and challenges. Then crystal balls on table were wheeled out to determine each invidiual student's mana capacity and their magic affinity. Immediately, Xadia got on the line. He was two individuals behind Sobel.

When Sobel, Xadia witnessed Sobel breaking the glass ball. This caused the person who was monitoring the glass ball to yelp out of surprise. Pretty soon all the students started to talk loudly at the glass ball shattering. Even Xadia was surprised. The glass ball broke, that means this person's mana capacity cannot be measured with the simple measuring device that the school was using. The person who was standing look at Sobel. The staff member started to speak.

"You, your mana capacity is off the charts," said the examiner. "Step aside, We will measure your mana capacity with another crystal ball. One that is more durable than this glass ball", said the examiner to Sobel.

"We will proceed with the next student", said the staff member. As soon as Sobel was told to step aside, the next student went. The crystal ball read the next two students that were in front of Xadia. Their mana capacity was average, and both of the students had an affinity to elemental magic. It was finally Xadia's turn. As a Nomage, Xadia does not have any magic within his body. He had to use mana from an external source. Luckily, he was wearing an armband that was on his right upper arm. The armband was hidden underneath the sleeve of his clothes so the examiners to avoid suspicion.

Xadia placed his left palm on the crystal ball. "White Forest," he said in his mind as an image of White Forest came into his mind. In his mind, he found himself standing in a forest surrounded by white trees with white leaves. As he imagined himself being there, he felt a warm heat radiating from his chest as his crest was activated. The crest then began to take the mana that was within his armband. Using the power of the crest, Xadia then channeled that mana down his left arm into the crystal ball, allowing the crystal ball to absorb the mana.

Xadia looked to the crystal ball. The entire crystal started to glow and lit up like a light bulb but the light that it gave off was average. Xadia looked up to the examiner. The examiner did not look impressed, but he was not disappointed as well. Xadia was just average or that's what he wanted to show them that his mana was average even though he didn't have any mana. "Your mana capacity is average Also, it appears you don't have any magic affinity to any of the magic types", said the examiner. "But that just means that you have the potential to specialize in a magic that you want to specialize in. Practicing in that magic type will change your magic affinity," said the examiner. "Next", said the examiner.

Xadia nodded and walked away. He was able to trick the crystal ball into thinking he has average mana. And that was all that he could ask for. He looked over and saw Sobel. The man has a lot of mana capacity. It would be wise to be friends with him rather than make an enemy of him. And that he was nervous means that he the type that doubt his strength and confidence.

Xadia walked to him, but at the same time, he kept the image of the White Forest up in his mind as he walked over to him. "Hello! That was pretty amazing. I thought only the Royal Family would have a high mana capacity. But it looks like you are on par with them as well", he said. But then stopped. "Oh wait are you part of the Royal Family?", said Xadia as he started to back away. The reason is because the royal family may act out and attack if a lesser commoner started to engage with them in conversations.

⇝ SOBEL WAXTON. ⇜

When the examiner said that to him, he gulped. He looked down and then looked at the examiner again.

— O-Ok... I'm going.

Then he started walking behind the examiner. When he heard Xadia's voice he turned around, his glare a bit nervous yet depressed at the same time. He looked like he wanted nobody to bother him. When Xadia told him that that was pretty amazing he smiled slightly. Then, Sobel answered him:

— Oh! Thank you!

There was a hint of happiness in his voice as he talked. Then, when Xadia backed away Sobel, he frowned and his smile faltered. He heard his question with attention and then raised his eyebrows, deviating his glare.

— Uh... no, I was from a common, middle-class family.

He then gulped and looked at Xadia again.

Oneth Solvaris

Oneth teleported from the podium and instantly appeared on the higher floors of the Academy. He was on the floor with a view of the courtyard, which allowed him to observe the students from a bird' s-eye view. He wanted to see if there would be any promising candidates this year. As he was looking onward, he steps walking his way. He turns around, seeing Octavio walking in his direction. From his face, he looks like he was pissed. He heard his complaint correcting his name as it was "de la Cruz". The nerve of this man. Does he not know that he was the former emperor of the Arcana Province? Especially the tone that he was taking with him. "Well De La Cruz, maybe next time you should have introduce yourself properly when you are at the podium. You did not even mention your name to the first-year students as you spoke there", he told Octavio.

He then turns his head back to the crowd. The elderly man with his white hair look down at the courtyard. "And you should watch how you take your tone with me, Octavio. I am the headmaster and you should respect me as such. Or else, I will find another professor to replace you", Oneth said threateningly.

Just then, the crystal ball that was evaluating Sobel broke. Oneth's right eyebrow raised at Sobel, who happened to break the crystal ball. That student's mana capacity is high but Oneth didn't recognize him being from a Royalty family. Usually, the high mana capacity come from those who have the royal bloodline. Though it is possible for those who are not royal bloodline to also have high mana capacity. Either because they were children of an affair from one of the royal families or it is because they were blessed with much mana at birth. "If you'll excuse me Octavio", said Oneth as he teleported from his spot to reappear again in the courtyard to where Sobel and Xadia was.

Xadia WhiteLeaf

Xadia's eyes widened as the man said he was from a common middle-class family. "Really? You're not from the royal family," said Xadia surprised. "I thought you would be. I guess you are like me then. I am also from a middle-class family. Unlike you, though, I wasn't blessed with a large mana capacity. I am only average," said Xadia. Average- yes, average is good. It is better to be average as it is easier to blend in with the crowd than to stand out. But this student was standing before him, had a lot of mana within his body. It would be a good idea to be friends with him rather than be enemies. "My name is Xadia. Xadia WhiteLeaf." said Xadia as he stretched his hand out for hand sake. As he did so, Xadia fortified his mind. He conjured the White Forest scenery within his mind. Xadia knew that there might be some mages that are capable of reading his thoughts. He needed to block out those who may try to enter into his mind, and usually Mage who can use telepathy can read another's thoughts through touch.. Hence why he thought of a mental image of a White Forest where his secrets are buried within the forest. Xadia made it very hard for someone to find where his secrets are within the White Forest.

Xadia waited on Sobel to introduce himself and shake his hands. After they introduced each other, suddenly Oneth, the headmaster, appeared in front of Xadia and Sobel. Xadia jumped back yelling a yelp out when the headmaster suddenly appeared out of nowhere. And Xadia was not the only one. The other students who were around him were also taken aback from the sudden appearance of the headmaster. The Headmaster's magical affinity, Space. This man can move through space and jump from one location to another. Of course, that is not all he can do, but right no,w the former emperor of the Arcana Province is here. And Xadia needed to stand his ground. The Headmaster may also be able to read his mind through telepathy. He may not have the magical affinity for it, but seeing how old he is and how experienced he is, it is possible he was required to read the thoughts of others. Xadia held onto the mental image of the White Forest within his mind. He cannot fail in his mission especially on the first day of school.

But to Xadia's relief, he was not looking at him. He was looking at Sobel. "You come with me. We will evalute your mana capacity with a stronger measuring device", he told Sobel.

Sobel nodded at Xadia and shaked hands with him, but then he jumped back when the Headmaster appeared. He looked at him with wide opened eyes and a frown, Sobel was scared of what might happen to himself. When the Headmaster Oneth otdered to follow him he simply nodded again and started walking behind him, following him in that path.

— I-I will be here in some minutes, I-I think. I hope so...

He fades away as he follows Oneth.

⸸ Octavio de La Cruz. ⸸

Octavio simply smirked when he heard Oneth's threat and then he just standed there. It seemed like he didn't cared and he wasn't scared of the Headmaster and Former Emperor (and yes, he wasn't so respectful to him, like if he were superior than him. At least it looks like he feels like that). He then looked down from the floor where Oneth was standing and, with his mysterious smirk, he suddenly vanished, becoming a black smoke that danced through the floor itself.
