  • I'm pretty sure I don't have writer's block. I just can't figure out how to start this damn story I'm working on.

It starts with a guy inside his house who's trying to write a letter or something. After two hours I'm halfway done with the second paragraph. Maybe I should work on the introduction after I finish everything else.

I find that a good question to ask yourself is "what do I have to set up for the story"?
What if a bunch of people got together and replied to a new Introductions thread with the lyrics for a huge, over-the-top Disney musical about RPNation? Just imagine an entire choir singing to you seconds after you post your intro.

We'd have to put a lot of work into coordinating that and, of course, write the lyrics.

...I would be on board with this.
Man I remember when one of the guys around here used to post random questions about our characters every day, such as their favorite animal, their most treasured object, what their voice sounded like - the list goes on.

If those questions ever showed up on the status feed again, I would get back to answering them in a heartbeat.
I don't know if any of you have seen the tweet about Comic Sans greatly improving writing and creativity, but somehow it sounds like really compelling advice. I don't know what to think anymore.
I think it'd be fun to see a roleplay where generous amounts of lore are provided, but it's told from a key character's point of view which all the other characters believe.

Then as the plot begins to progress it turns out most of the lore is completely fucking wrong. Maybe the character is unreliable for some reason, or the world has changed very drastically somehow.

It'd be fun for about 10 minutes, then shit would hit the fan I imagine. Players suddenly wouldn't know what they could even trust, hesitation levels would skyrocket and would just general paranoia. Players like me who rely on consistent lore for their character I have no idea how we would react, but I do know some players would just be upset and leave.

Agreeing with idea, it’s got to be consistent otherwise we’re left with a mutt in terms of inconsistent lore. I would probably leave too since I wouldn’t know what to post about if it’s not true.
Imagine there's some sort of underground cave society that hasn't been exposed to the sun, the moon, or anything else outside for a very long time. They probably have some way to tell time, otherwise it'd be hard to figure out things like age and anniversaries.

In addition, people wouldn't greet each other saying 'good morning' or 'good evening' for obvious reasons, so what would they say instead?

If they’ve survived that long then greetings aren’t challenges. If they’re living together then they are social creatures and have a possible pack mentality.

The concept of Day and night would be like usual initially. A few generations later and they would either have specific designated times for sleeping or waking. The concept could also, like I said, be entirely nonexistant with you waking up and sleeping whenever you want. everyone with theri own sleeping schedule.

Things like birthdays didn't exist until some point in the middle ages when royalty began adopting it and then it was copied by lower social classes as well. Counting age is important, and assuming they did it, it might rely on cyclical aspects of the life forms under the caves like plants that only bloom at certain times of the year or animal mating rituals etc...
Trying to figure out how to better explain the noble uses of blood magic in my fantasy world, so I've been looking up blood, donation/transfusion, and the first five seasons of Dexter.

I should try donating blood one day, it always goes to a good cause. I'm just worried I'll faint or something.

I remember this philosophical piece in a Dragon magazine arguing that you could play a Lawful Good Necromancer, someone who gives renewed purpose to the fallen in times of need. Like the ultimate recycler.

How about improving blood flow to make certain injuries heal faster?

Yep, regeneration is something blood magi are capable of using.
As far as the healing element goes, one can mend wounds, but blood is the other essential component. It'll take significantly longer to recover from injuries if there isn't anyone willing to lend you a little blood.
I have a decent story outlined in my head (something for the Creativity section), but I'm still searching for the inspiration to type it down.

It's a fantasy story of some sort. Perhaps I could give a brief synopsis if someone asked for one.
For a while I've had a shit ton of roleplay and story ideas running through my head daily and I just haven't typed or participated to anything at all. Maybe I could establish some lore, throw in a quest, maybe even see who wants a group roleplay action, but nah - didn't type shit yet. I'm sure I'll come around to it soon...

I still answer that one dude's OC questions whenever they show up, though. He's a nice guy.
