Experiences The Weirdest Thing You've Googled for a RP

Or make stuff up :'D

anyway, the weirdest thing I've googled recently would be...

Clowncore, a music genre. Uh... It's not bad at all, but it's insanely weird lol

Love Clowncore! You should look into clown husbandry next!

Most significantly, I played a Persian character in a sci-fi setting who, among other things, taught me through research to 1) cook ghormeh sabzi and make faloodeh, 2) speak some conversational Farsi, and 3) play backgammon (takteh) on a semi-professional level. Learned Hokm too!

I played a hacker who had me researching the intricacies of packet capture and firewalls. That one, I had to construct some cypher and coding puzzles for other players to solve. It required weeks of research, some consulting with irl engineering friends, and commissioning a graphic designer.

Russian tea etiquette for a noble regent.

How to build a wifi gun.

International military ranks and chain of command.

So, so much bioscience and genetics to justify alien biology.

Art history - all the impressionists! And how to pull off a museum heist.

How to realistically break someone out of prison.

The effects of strychnine poisoning.

How many diseases you can get from eating poorly prepared shellfish. Yikes!

Intravenous drug use, then how and where to buy street drugs.

And so much more that I can’t even remember off the top of my head!

"How to build an ied from garden supplies"
I was playing a child genius during a zombie apocalypse and ended up making play-doh plastic explosives. I don't... I don't know man

"What are the four forces of reality"
I actually didn't know they were grouped like this: It's gravity, the weak force, magnetism and the strong force. It was for a superhero space opera and I apparently felt the need to explore quantum physics. 😅

"How does a medieval economy work?"
I had to look this up for a magical fantasy rp I was running, I needed to know how many people lived in a village, how much each household earned, how much was taxed and traded, how much was reinvested, how much the lords and barons made, how much soldiers were paid, how much food was, cost of a night in a tavern, adventurer/guard fees, spellbook costs, etc. While I was able to make my own currency system out of this, it didn't really get used aside from the few who decided to get incredibly rich. A for effort though!

"All Tomorrows"
This also wasn't really for a character, but for another roleplay I'm constructing named Vessel IV: All Will Be One. All Tomorrows is a fictional youtube series about this one guy's passion project; humanity travels to the stars, get invaded by aliens and are fractured into a myriad of grotesque lab experiments set to roam free. It's really a great watch. If that interests you, the roleplay I'm making will draw a lot of themes from it - dm if interested.

Hope you're having fun~ : )

-how to split a atom

-how to make a force field

- plant based poisons

- does light have matter

[ fallout rp groups really had me researching for a lot of it]

When I use to roleplay on Garry's Mod, I was googling things like how to treat gunshot wounds, sepsis, emergency surgery and so on as a medical staff in rp lol

The weirdest things I’ve ever had to google for a roleplay involve double checking knowledge I have on animals and plants and looking up more info about specific animals and plants.

But there was also that one time I looked up how much water is in the human blood the answer? Plasma is 92% water and our blood is made up of 55% plasma.

(The joys of having a character that experiments with water magic)

Funny thing is that I actually know the answers to the first three. I went through a phrase where I was obsessed with everything nuclear.

My FBI agent probably thinks I’m going into organized crime and torturing people with the research I’m doing.

(Extremely summarized) Most recent search history:

How many familys of Bee are there?
Mafia territories Newyork
Are you allowed to pass out when having concussion
How much blood can you lose while having concussion
Usual demolitionist tools
Usual miner tools
How long does it take to become malnourished?
Do people in prison get malnourished?
Ethnography
Xenography

Different ways of picking and otherwise breaking into locks. In great detail.

This wasn't for an RP but for my job, actually.

Now I'm intrigued as to what sort of job you do where knowing about lockpicking is actually important :P

Product specialist, more or less. We sell a very wide variety of stuff and added euro cylinders to the mix at one point. I wanted to understand what they're built to withstand so I could describe them in a way the customer's gonna understand and trust. Doing this with specialised goods always rubs my spectrum-ness the right way, ngl

Well, I'm in the library profession and sometimes patrons will come with very bizarre requests for information they want. Jobs like this where you're dealing with very specific and niche knowledge never get dull.

Oh yeah I've worked at a library before. Most of the time people just borrowed easily digestible prose (often with erotic elements, which seemed more common with age) but every now and then someone requested something ridiculously obscure like an encyclopaedia of urine therapy. And by god, we had their back on that one.

I use to volunteer at a book resale place, with books people either just want to get rid off or donate and library discards. I mainly shelved the soft covers. The amount of soft cover romance books (with questionable covers) that came and went? oh boy.

lol it's definitely not my thing, but hey I'm just glad people are reading at all.

I ones accidentally stole a book from the library ;v; I swear I didn’t mean to- but I been too scared to return it- I was like 10 and I got this really thick book about a princess and some knights. And a rebellion or something and the book was really confusing. But I kept trying to read it. I never Even got past the 15th chapter out of 100 chapters. It was like as thick as my head. And I stopped reading it at one point and then I forgot about it and I didn’t find it until 4 years later and I panicked thinking my dad was gonna ground me and I was gonna go to jail and so 14 year old me was freaking out and has never been to a library since

How much sleeping pills to consume untill you die
How many sleeping pills can a toddler eat
Are you allowed to give toddlers sleeping pills
Medicine that's unsafe for children

((I swear I'm not gonna kill any children -))

Not sure what prefix this should have, and I'm 100% sure no one cares.

Everyone's Googled some pretty weird stuff for their RPs, from what I've seen around here. The darker the RP, the darker the search, as well.
My partner and I were in a situation where their character was sick and going to die very soon. They found the cure for it in a flower, but not concentrated enough. We decided the answer to this problem would be perfume since it's pretty much concentrated flower juice. So I had to Google if you'd die if you drank perfume. I tried to Google if you'd die if you injected it but for some reason nobody's been stupid enough to do that yet

I've also Googled quite a bit about CPR, and learned that it works a lot less than the movies would lead you to think. I also learned that it also, more often than not, breaks ribs in the process.

So what are some of your weirdest Google searches for the sake of RP, and what odd facts did you learn from them? Enlighten me! Fun facts are always somewhat entertaining.

"Causes of falconry injuries to humans" Turns out it's such a rarity for a tamed bird of prey to attack a human that the only source I could find within the span of my patience was unclear if the falcon involved was actually used in falconry or wild and therefore irrelevant.

"can sharks break their spine"
"can sharks break their backs"
"do sharks have bones"
"shark sushi"
"types of sushi fish"
"shark meat sushi"
"temari sushi"

Context: my character is currently fighting a monster who looks like this and a shark is the closest thing it resembles

I think the internet must think I'm an expecting parent or something, since I end up looking up child developmental milestones and growth patterns and stuff alot to help me write for kids and figure out how large they are at different ages, etc. I have only a very fuzzy mental idea of what ages correspond to what with kids.

My fbi agent must think I’m a serial killer in the making or atleast a lunatic cuz I’ve looked up

“What knot is best for restraining people”

“What gag type is best for muffling sound?”

“How to keep someone hidden for 19 years or more?”
