Hello and welcome to Inogaku, a detailed high school roleplay with a very casual vibe. It's primarily character-driven rather than plot-driven; OOC conversation is a must, so having a discord is practically a prerequisite on my end. about inogaku
honor and excellence; country and self
introduction
Inoue Gakuen is a relatively new school, a sort of flagship prototype formed from the combined efforts of the Japanese government and private institutions. Founded 11 years ago by Inoue Isamu, the school's mission remains the same until now. Its goal is simple: it aims to emulate a college-like academic environment while still keeping the core experiences associated with being a high school student. Though it's a little early to tell if it will become the high school equivalent of Toudai, many of its students eventually came to be household names in Japan, and most of its alumni cite the academy as one of their greatest influences.

Academically speaking, most, if not all, of Inogaku's students are at the very least above average. An initial entrance exam is required, followed by an interview by the faculty of a student's department of choice, as well as talent tests for relevant majors, such as those under sports or arts. It's possible to apply for a scholarship once accepted, however it's very rare that someone from the General Education department (that isn't a sports representative) receives one. They give priority to those who go under specific majors.

Much like a typical college or university, the academy is divided into three main departments catering to the main interests of its students. These are the Sports and General Education Department, the STEM Department, and finally the Performing and Fine Arts Department. Each department has a slightly different curriculum from the others, focusing on their intended subject. People who belong to the STEM program have a higher priority on science and mathematics subjects than, say, someone from the Arts Department, although the latter is still required to learn the basics.

Unlike most magnet schools with specific interests, Inogaku aims to give its students a holistic experience. An unfortunate side-effect is that the diversified interests make it difficult for the Academy to be the best at any particular field. Locally however, they've gained traction as the top school junior high students want to enroll in.
inogaku life
The school grounds are vast, in contrast to many of the schools that reside in Tokyo. This is because Inogaku is located away from metropolitan areas and rather isolated, with the nearest city being a bus ride away. It sits on a partial nature reserve in order to educate its students about the value of conservation.

Each department has its own complex of buildings, with the largest belonging to the Sports and Gen Ed students to accomodate the former's necessary equipment. Most of the school is shared ground however; it's not uncommon to see an Art student in the STEM department, or a Gen Ed student hanging out in the music rooms.

Many of Inogaku's students are from out of prefecture, and so it has on-campus accommodations for such situations. The dorm buildings are on opposite ends of the school, separated by gender, with three students per room. There's a common livingspace on the first floor of each dorm building, and each floor has a shared bathroom area comprising of six shower stalls and six toilets. Living in a dorm isn't required if your house is near enough, and it's encouraged to give priority to those who need it more.

Much of the school relies on a student's ID card; it acts as your meal ticket, your library card, your dorm key and your computer lab log, as well as a number of other uses. The staff advises heavily not to lose it; while the first loss is free, any subsequent replacements have a fine in addition to the processing fee.

Inogaku has a very relaxed dress code, with students free to make alterations to their uniform provided that the core remains the same. For male students, the iconic striped black blazer is required during important events such as commencement exercises, and during the winter term. The button-down inside has the school emblem on on the pocket, and can be short-sleeved when not wearing the blazer such as during summer months. The pants are black slacks, paired with dark-colored socks and any dark shoes, although most prefer wearing black with the uniform.

The male and female PE uniform are identical; white track suites with parallel black lines running along the seams. Students should wear sneakers or whatever appropriate footwear. During summer students are required to take swimming classes, so the school has swimwear, with an optional rashguard.

Much like the male uniform, the women's blazer is typically only worn during special ceremonies and the winter term. Unlike the men's however, the blazer is left unadorned as the pattern is on the school skirt for contrast. The white button-down should be long-sleeved when wearing the blazer, otherwise, students are free to pick between the two styles depending on what they're comfortable with. The skirt itself can be worn at any length as long as it's at least two inches above the knee minimum. Students may wear socks or tights, depending on the weather. Shoes can be flat or have a heel; it only needs to be a dark color.

introduction
Inogaku's Sports and General Education is the largest of the three departments, both building area and population-wise. As the department name implies, it focuses on sports or those who are pursuing general education at a higher level than usual. It's not uncommon for the students within this department to transfer in or out to other departments, as this is typically where students who fail the talent screening land.

While it's difficult to deny that the department has the least specialized curriculum, the minimum standard is no less than other departments. Those who graduate from this department have as high as an acceptance rate as those from Inogaku's STEM department when it comes to Japan's top universities.

Due to how varied the sports major are, they require the most space of the three departments. Most corners of the academy campus have some sort of area dedicated to them. Almost all students of any department have come by their main classroom building either for their general elective classes or their required physical education units in the two attached gymnasiums.

introduction
The STEM department is the smallest in terms of populace and allocated area, but many consider it to be the richest department. Most of their alumni often go on to be successful in their chosen field, generously donating to their alma mater, specifically the division that raised them.

Out of all the departments, the STEM department is often considered the most difficult, and many of its students transfer into the Sports and General Education department after their first year. Almost all the students within the STEM department know each other due to their small community, so they'd be the most close-knit department of the three, despite the anti-social introvert stereotype typically associated with them.

Their main building is home to three things: their homeroom classrooms, two computer labs, and the engineering laboratory located in the first floor. The engineering lab is for personal use of the students. The two computer labs are located at the top floor, one being for all students' use, whilst the second being exclusively for STEM students. All other laboratories of the department are located in an annex building. The STEM department is also in charge of caring for the academy's greenhouse.

introduction
It would be an understatement to say that the PFA department is loud. Despite the competitive environment (which they seem to thrive in), its students lead the charge whenever it comes to extra-curriculars and school events. Out of all the departments, its student populace seems to be most varied, ranging from the introverted modern artist to the delinquent trombone player to the flamboyant musical theater actor.

Many of the department's alumni have likened their experience in the school to the world's scariest rollercoaster. There's never a dull moment, which can prove too much for some; between all three departments, PFA has the highest number of students who transfer out of the school. Others, however, thrive in a high-tension environment, and PFA delivers it to a T.

The PFA complex is the most distinct of the three, with most of the buildings being comprised of glass and steel to allow as much natural light as possible. The PFA department also houses Inogaku's auditorium, capable of seating up to 500 people with a pit area for the school orchestra. It's typically used by the theater majors on no event days.

Much like the STEM department, there's a multimedia laboratory for student personal use. This is typically where sculpting, metalworking, glass-blowing and similar endeavours occur. Anything that generally requires more specialized equipment is usually done in the multimedia laboratory, and not the separate art room located in the main building.

The basement floor is dedicated to music students, with several differently sized soundproof booths. Two rooms are recording rooms, one strictly for voice and small instruments, the other designed to accommodate a quintet or band.

club week
honor and excellence; country and self
introduction
A week into the new school year, Inogaku's new students have more or less adjusted to harried schedule that it ran on. As high pace as it was, it was still nothing compared to the surprise that greeted them as they filed into school that Monday morning.

Students holding picket signs milled about, the person next to them shoving an application at any poor soul who had the naivety to answer they didn't have a club yet. The school dance group advertised a show later in the day, giving others a taste of what was to come with an impromptu b-boy battle. The general atmosphere was very festive, the tension of the past week finally letting loose in one big celebration.

There would be no classes for the rest of the day, although all students are required to drop into their homeroom first to sign the attendance sheet held by their advisor. Students are free to explore afterwards.
notes
The time of the day is around 9:30am, with sunny skies and cherry blossoms in full bloom. A chill's still in the air, but stronger souls can take off their jacket if they'd like. Feel free to have your character start off at any point; I just provided the homeroom option. Characters in the same year and department are assumed to be classmates for the sake of interaction. “Akechi!”

An angry shout and the impact of a hundred or so sheets of paper on his head sent the boy in question stumbling forward. Shuuya blinked back sleepily at his assailant. “Captain...if I forget the terms I memorized for my English test, it’s on you.”

“Test my foot. It’s barely a week into the year not to mention there’s no classes today.” came the soccer club captain’s retort as he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Now, none of that ‘five more minutes’ business. Do your job properly.”

Five more minutes? Had he really said that? Then again, it would be more surprising if he hadn’t. Replying back with only a low grunt, Shuuya took half the stack of application papers and observed the passing students. Barely a minute had gone by when he decided to do things the Akechi Shuuya way: slip the papers in the hands of any who looked in the soccer club’s general direction.

Nodding his head at a job well done in spite of all the numerous protests that the person he’d handed the application to was already in a club, Shuuya took the opportunity to run off to go find a certain cellist. Little did he know, the soccer club’s captain had decided then and there that he would be banned from morning practice the next day as punishment for skipping off. Nevertheless, the second year’s unusually good mood came to a screeching halt upon seeing the company that his friend happened to be with.

Standing next to Take was a costumed figure who could only be Katou Mei avidly advertising the theater club. While he had nothing against the eccentric third year, the presence of Katou often meant…

Creeping up to the pair, Shuuya cautiously looked to the side, front, and back. “Is that here?”

Toudou Takehiko
---------------------------------
Running on a blessed (and rare) total of over seven hours of sleep, Takehiko was honestly in a good mood. He was fully charged with sleep and a good breakfast to keep him up for a whole day of festivities. A true rarity that only happened because the president of the theater club threatened all of them with “Death of a Salesman” for the next play if they didn’t all come in fresh faced. Takehiko wasn’t sure if Prez had the authority to do that since the theater club usually performed plays and musicals that didn’t make the audience fall asleep but...clearly no one wanted to take the chances.

...Well technically the theater club as a whole can overthrow the president if they wanted to but honestly they had too many rehearsals to do to waste time on mutiny. Not to mention, it would probably give people like Shuuya more encouragement to do whatever he wants instead of listening to his unfortunate soccer team captain.

Speaking of Shuuya...

"You’ll have to be more specific on what ‘that’ is,” he answered blithely as he dusted off wayward confetti from his sleeve. His roommate’s teapot costume was genius but admittedly the confetti got everywhere. “But Shuuya, shouldn’t you be with the soccer club..."

After handing out flyers to a few of giggling first years who were thoroughly entertained by the generous confetti-giving human teapot, Takehiko finally turned to eye his childhood friend a look dripping with disapproval. He openly nagged while waving his share of flyers in front of Shuuya’s nose, “It’s not even noon yet. ...And you did remember to go to homeroom for attendance, right?”

Work had begun as soon as Natsumi set foot out of her dorm that morning. Her slumber was disrupted by a senior from media class rapping urgently at the door. Embarrassingly, she hadn’t the time to wash her face or even pull on a pair of matching socks before a camera was shoved into her hands. The task assigned: To secure interviews and photos for the first newsletter of the school year.

Expectations were running high and so was the competitive atmosphere as the girl found herself handing out pins whilst dodging the crowds in her struggle to gather half-decent shots. Sweat had stuck strands of hair to her forehead as she deleted yet another image.

Natsumi rarely complained about her workload. But on the first week back, this was just too much to ask. Besides that, travelling to all four corners of Inogaku’s gigantic campus would leave anyone exhausted. After a handful of members had either graduated or dropped out, she was surprised to discover how understaffed the Yearbook team had become. On top of balancing homework- being the now youngest and comparatively inexperienced member, she was entrusted with a majority of the grunt work.

“Ready...and smile!” with an approving nod, Yueda signalled an ‘OK’ before handing each student a pin. “We hold meetings every Wednesday! I hope to see you two there!” she beamed and gave a small wave before checking the time on her phone. Natsumi didn’t want to miss the breakdance session that was about to happen soon.

The opportunity was too good to let slip, she joined the throng of people already beginning to gather at the centre of the entranceway. She figured after this, there’d be time to enjoy the festivities.

Like many students who belonged to clubs, Mei had spent last night working on last minute details. With the knowledge that students needed to cram in their recruitment projects, attendance was a loose concept. Many students not-so-subtly snuck out of the dorms after the check, but the floor heads chose to turn a blind eye or ear towards the shenanigans. The costume and set design major was one of them. Those who worked backstage for the theater club spent their night in the clubroom, fueled by coffee and sweets as they placed the finishing touches on their respective props.

Waking up that morning was a terrible experience. The sunlight was too bright, his head ached and his breath smelled from dehydration due to caffeine. Then there was also the aching back; a result of passing out on the club floor while using spare lengths of fabric as a bed alongside everyone else. He barely had enough time to run to the dorm to make himself presentable before they officially opened shop. Donning a simple all black attire, he quickly made his way back to the clubroom. Assembling the costume onto himself required a bit of help from Takehiko plus another costume major, but in the end, the teapot for today was on. The variation he wore was much more extravagant than the one to be used in the play itself, but it also meant his movements were much more limited. That mattered little though, as once showtime rolled in, freshmen PFA students flocked to the flashy confetti-pouring teapot that was Katou Mei.

It was Takehiko who was his partner for his shift, and for that he was grateful. The white-haired male wasn't one to partake in unnecessary chitchat. While Mei wasn't particularly adverse to it, his problem came in the form of confetti. Whenever he opened his mouth while the teapot cap was on, the colorful bits of paper had a nasty tendency to fly into his mouth, even though he was pretty sure he sealed the compartment where he stored them.

He was happy to entertain the students who expressed interest in the club, and working with Takehiko, the two made decent headway in halving the stack of club flyers they'd been assigned. He was fairly confident that they would finish it; theater was one of the more popular clubs in Inogaku. The past two years were proof enough of their success.

From the limited view of his peephole, he saw a familiar green-haired athlete make his way towards them. Or more specifically, towards his partner. As the students finally went away, he removed the cap from his costume. "I'm assuming he means Oda-san." It wasn't a secret that the amateur director had a tendency to call out Akechi. Sweat caused his forehead to glisten and he silently thanked the gods that it was still spring. "I'm not sure where he is."

Takehiko's next statement caught Mei by surprise. "Wait, we were seriously supposed to go to homeroom? I didn't know that." He shrugged, although the movement was amplified by the round costume he wore. Instead it looked more like a slight shake, and bits of confetti flew into the air. "Uh, I guess I should go there right now." He looked down towards the girth of his costume, then to Takehiko, then to Akechi. "Although I don't think I'll fit through our classroom door in this." With an assessing gaze, he tried to guess the soccer major's sizes. It looked close enough, but it was a bit hard to tell with his outfit. "Do you think you can wear this for a bit while I run to class?"

Signing attendance was necessary but a pain, especially for someone as lackadaisical as Yuzuru Nui. Personally, he didn't see the point in marking attendance considering how the day was mostly used up for recruiting members and displaying the stalls and events which the student bodies worked their asses off to prep for. The atmosphere was lively to say and Nui had separated from his friends to catch a breather for himself. Besides, they had wanted to check what the pfa students had set up this year. If he recalled correctly it was something Disney related...?

Well, whatever it was, his friends decided it would do him good if he didn't follow along, and Nui couldn't have agreed more.

Iced drink in hand, he wandered through the school halls, well-avoiding the flyers and attempts to get him to join any clubs. His other free hand was shoved into his pockets and there it stayed, refusing to carry along anything thrust into his face.

"Hmm what to do," he wondered, taking a seat on one of the benches near the school's entrance. He was idly wasting his time, half-contemplating to go home early or to stay to find something new to try out. Last year he was in pfa which could be counted as a club in itself, but this year, now that he was in stem, he no longer had to stay back after classes to rehearse or practice for something. The freedom encouraged him to join a club but none so far has piqued his interest.

His straw made a loud sipping sound as he reached the bottom of his drink. Tossing it to a nearby trashcan, he followed the masses to watch the impromptu dance-off performance.

"Oops, sorry," he apologized briskly, after bumping shoulders with a pink-haired student. He recognizes her as a face he's seen before in pfa but fails to remember. Admittedly, he didn't try hard to.

He'd tried. He'd really tried.

Shun stood just outside his classroom, having just finished signing the attendance sheet. On his way over, several clubs had tried to shove their sign-up sheets and flyers into his hands. Rather than apologizing like a normal human being, he'd run like a deer caught in the headlights. Like an idiot if he wanted to be blunt about it. It wasn't as if they were going to choke it down his throat. The one time he'd tried to take one of the flyers, the recruiter held his hand and he'd panicked, fleeing to the safety of his classroom.

He was a fucking mess.

Sighing in defeat, he wandered, trying to find a quiet space in the campus. Considering its size, he was bound to find some private corner where he could play on his PSP without company. The first year made a point to avoid actual pathways. He took the long route, walking around the buildings than through them. As he'd expected, it was noticeably more populated than usual, even out here as club members ran around behind the scenes. But it was the lesser of the evils, especially considering the chaos he'd gone through when he'd taken his usual path to his classroom.

Wandering into the STEM department, he was surprised to see the small canteen in the building largely devoid of people. Then again, STEM's clubs weren't exactly known for being as aggressive as the PFA and sports cubs of Inogaku, so it made sense that their building would be calmer. Taking a seat near the wall, he studied his surroundings. Though it was his first time in STEM's canteen, it didn't vary all that much from SGE's. He assumed the same would be the case for PFA.

Pulling out his PSP, he quickly shifted his selector to his last save file. It had been a while since he'd had a game that intrigued him the same way the current one did. Most of the new VN's had a couple of good routes with nice storytelling, the rest barely passing muster and were simply variations of the main ones. This time around, the stories varied so immensely he actually wanted to see them to their ends. It didn't take long for him to become absorbed, headphones blocking out sound as he pressed buttons on the small device.
