The First Zaonian

animal_becomes_human_by_sadakotakahashi-d5g17ky.png

This story takes place billions of years ago, when normal Zaonians walked the Earth along side their animals. Ola ruled over them peacefully, watching as the two fought for land, food, and survival. Not liking Zaonians and animals being at war together, Ola gave the ability to combine spirits to the people of Zao. In the middle of battle, Zaonians met eyes with the animals they fought and were swept into each other, becoming one through body and spirit. They could now see what pain they caused and how the animals were just like them. Seeking to become united, Zaonians built communities with their animal counter parts and became peaceful.

The Zaonians of the Water

Alati had always been jealous of Ola's power over the lands and wished to have her own people to control. She loved her animals, but she felt they were missing something like she was. Seeing the longing in a few special young Zaonian's eyes, she lured them into the water never to return to land. Zaonians became afraid of the waters, fearful that their children would be taken, since it was only children 8 or younger that could be taken. Alati failed many times even drowning children in her desire to have them. Tears filled her waters along with blood of sacrifices that the Zaonians started to make thinking that would appease the Goddess. Disappointed in herself, Alati hid away and cried for the pain she caused. Why couldn't she do what Ola does? Thana, being brought forth by all the death, found Alati and told her that the children that had died were not sad and wished to join her in the waters she just needed to find a better way.

Swallowing her pride and envy, she asked Ola for the ability to create water Zaonians. Seeing the desire and love in Alati's eyes, Ola granted her wish, but said she must not force them down, they must find their own way. Soon Alati had many Zaonians in her waters and her heart was filled. The deaths of those children shall not be forgotten and she loves all her children with a powerful passion.
