    "Now, Willow... a little birdie told me you're from a big family of boys, huh? How would you say it's been away from them?" The interview began as every other did, with Caesar pointing out weak spots in a tributes backstory to make them seem human; to make them darling to the spectators watching with bated breath to get a glimpse behind the curtain.
    
    "Less... smelly...?" Willow said quietly but despite her presentation, a rumbling laughter uproared from the audience. "A jokester we've got here, ladies and gentlemen! But I would imagine so. I'm sure you're thrilled to get a room to yourself!
    
    She nodded, playing with her hands which were folded in her lap. "It's quite lovely. The capitol is really just--" She looked around, suddenly realizing eyes were on her before drawing back. "Overwhelming wonderful..." Cue the awe's. She'd charmed her way into the audiences hearts for the night with her charming, soft spoken demeanor.
    
    "Willow Adler-- Strange saying that last name aloud again, wouldn't you say? Do you think of this as a sort of... redemption? Revenge? Maybe a chance to remember--" Caesar Flickerman's voice was oh-so familiar. Willow had watched with bated breath seven years ago as he interview with her brother, Finley, before he met his brutal end in the 60th hunger games. Willow did her best not to grimace at the implications of flickerman's words.
    
    "My brother--" willow faltered, her voice catching in the throat. the crowd went wild with sympathy, clutching their hearts, bracing on each other, tears filling their eyes. "My brother deserves to be honored." She nodded, looking up at Caesar with a soft smile and furrowed brows; pain filled her eyes. "And I plan on doing that. I want to avenge him. I want to honor finley by winning the games." The interviewer gave a wild smile as the crowd erupted in cheers for the girls determination. "And honor him you will, dear Willow! Willow Adler from District 7!"

    Though the Capitol often discourages frigid environments in Arena's, the 67th Hunger Games dipped back into freezing climates. With a mountain range, tall trees, and a handful of creatures wanting to tear the tributes limb for limb, the tributes weren't the only threat to each other. With spiders that can paralyze, plants that will leave you breathless and lifeless, and rivers that will freeze your body in and instance, the battle against Mother Nature was almost as fierce as the battle against each other.
    
    Willow, a survivor at heart, had seen how her brother behaved in his games and how quickly he got killed. Her plan, at first, was to outlast. She was used to the cold, used to the mountains, and most of all, she was used to the trees. She could climb, protect herself, survive until the others killed themselves by stupidity. But forced into combat more than she wished, the girl soon turned into a killer.
    
    The most difficult moment in her games was the moment she had to turn on her district partner. A sweet boy who had played coy and innocent the whole time turned aggressive the minute he entered the arena. When he finally found Willow, he'd nearly killed her before she overtook him and pierced his eye with an ice pick. He was her first kill but certainly not the last. Tears mixed with bloods as her shaking, freezing hand clutched the ice pick, hovering over his unmoving body for far too long before desperately needing to find shelter.
    
    Willow had charmed her way into a plethora of sponsors for her games. She received matches, an emergency blanket, fresh water, an ice pick, all which aided in her in claiming victor. Though she had limited allies, a mutual respect between herself and a girl from District 12 formed and the girls steered clear of each other. Her Games, once she won, was a smashing success in the Capitol. It was gory, heartfelt, and most of all, thrilling for the Capitlolies to have such a darling victory. Though they felt nothing but pride for their victor, Willow felt only shame. She'd survived for her family but at what cost?
    reputation: A quiet and charming killer. To the Capitol, she's the quaint girl from District 7 who wanted to avenge her brother, but the other Victors perhaps have a different view on the woman. Cunning, hyper-intelligent, and driven to fully avenge her brother, Willow's knack for finding her way into secrets and information that could be dangerous someday makes her a powerful person to be allies with. And yet, the Capitol and its suspicions threaten to take everything she's worked so hard for. Is the quiet, meek girl from District 7 an act to deceive others or is there any hint of truth left over from her years prior to the game?

    Born to the mountains, and raised by the trees, Willow Adler was cradled by the cold of her home. The only frigidness the child knew, however, came from the environment she was raised in. Though the youngest of the Adler children, the hearth of the family kept them warm in the long winters, made nights of hunger manageable, and cultivated a world that was bearable to live in, even despite the cruelties and the hardships most faced.
    
    
    At age seven, Willow began accompanying her mother to the forests. While her father and brothers worked in the forest, the work of a lumberjack was difficult, strenuous and dangerous, especially for a young child. While trained workers could manage the risk adequately and reduce the danger, an eager and excitable little kid frolicking about in the world of axes and falling trees sounded reasonably injudicious. Holly held a different occupation, away from the logging and felling of trees, deep in the woods, high above the forest floors, tending to the health of the trees. Her job was crucial to the success of the harvest, of course. Ensuring trees were healthy, non-diseased, and strong guaranteed a healthy and plentiful yield for years in the future.
    
    Willow clung to the memory of her first time looking over the treetops. She was impossibly high. So high she swore she could touch the clouds. That the sky was only inches from her fingertips, calling out to her to make contact. The forest was endless, miles and miles of redwoods, cedars, firs and a million other trees. She could see the mountains, in all their glory, covered in a white and painting the blue sky with magnificence. Willow knew humans couldn’t fly, but lingering in the tops of those endless tall trees felt as close as she could get to soaring above everything.
    
    It took only a few months for Willow to learn the ropes– literally. Little hands went to work practicing knots after dinner, until the setting light of dusk made it impossible to see. She worked in twilight, sightlessly memorizing the feel of a knot, dedicating it to her memory until her body begged her to rest. Climbing came naturally to the child, the thick ropes twisted around the trunk of the tree fitting into small hands as she ascended a few inches. Inches turned to feet, and before long, Willow began working alongside her mother, apprenticing and learning the craft as meticulously as she could. Before long, Willow began working full time in the forests, just as her father and brothers did.
    
    The forest was impossibly quiet, only filled with the soft noises of wildlife and the muted clamoring of climbers as they completed their daily tasks. Even in the cold, dead of winter, Willow reveled each day of work.
    
    Though things seemed peaceful for the Adler family, the boys were aging, and with age came the risk of becoming a tribute. Willow’s disconnect from the Games was slowly ceasing, as she crept closer and closer to reaping age. Still, her mind settled in the Forest. While there was also the dread that one of her brothers might be reaped, the Adler family avoided the tragedy of the Games for several years, as they continued to work. Willow’s father insisted that she begin practicing woodcutting, as perhaps one day she would rather join him, and Cedar, should she get bored of climbing trees all day. She doubted it would happen, but enjoyed the time spent with her father, learning to hone her skills on the unique tool. Though she did not possess the years of knowledge her brothers did, her intuitive nature aided her in becoming adequate with an axe. Though, Willow had never been a fan of desecrating trees for the Capitol.
    
    With each passing year, one Adler came closer to escaping the Hunger Games, while Willow crept closer.. All the Adler children were eligible for the Games that year, except her– all her brothers stood in anticipation, clustered with their peers and their neighbors, as they anxiously awaited the dreaded reading of names. Willow didn’t have much to worry about. Her brother hadn't been called in years prior… they didn’t take extra ration cards… there was no reason for an Adler to be called…
    
    “And the male tribute for District 7 will be…Finley Adler.”

    It wasn’t possible. Something must have been a mistake. Finley was only 15, his name was only supposed to be in four times. So how was it possible that, out of the hundreds of children that showed up for the reaping, he was called?
    
    That year, for the 60th Hunger Games, Finley Adler died just hours after the game began. Killed by careers. One of the first handful of kids slaughtered in the arena. He was a bright boy, kind and generous and always smiling. He would never be a killer, but to have his life taken… so easily… To swiftly… So cruelly?
    
    For weeks, Willow spent her days in the Forest, returning home only for food every couple of days. It wasn’t like she could eat anyways. Instead, she spent her nights in the top of an old Redwood, where she and Finley had managed to rig a hammock in the high branches. Willow wondered if running away could free her from the grief that came along with living in Panem. Escaping with her family to live in the tops of trees and to forage and sing and be happy… But it was only the fantasy of a hurt and grieving child.
    
    In the following year, Willow withdrew from many of those she called friends. She spent more time in the forest, working day in and day out. And each year reaping she prayed her brothers would escape the cruelties of the Games. Cedar was free, Ferric was next… Thankfully, the Adler children avoided being reaped for years. But their fate was not sealed, nor was it protected. Not until each child made it through their 18th birthday unscathed by the cruelties of the Hunger Games and the Capitol’s punishment.
    
    And then came the 67th Annual Hunger Games. The youngest Adler, Creek, was born in the hot summer months, days before Willow’s final reaping. Days before Willow was sent to the Capitol to fight. To survive.
    
    Willow wasn’t a fighter. Finley, at least, had been superb with axe’s. Willow was only a novice… Her chances of survival were slim, but her charm managed to woo the Capitol and acquire their favor. Kind and gentle and smiling… The sweet, innocent girl from District 7 who would likely be killed in the bloodbath.
    
    But something inside Willow had ignited. When she promised Caesar Flickerman she would avenge her brother, it was not a simple tactic to woo the Capitol– it was a promise to fight her way out of the Hunger Games so she could tear down the very people that forced both her and her brother to fight against other children. Willow couldn’t leave her family to grieve another child– her fate would not be the same as her brother’s. She would ensure that by any means possible.
    
    Though Willow would never admit this, if the Arena she fought in had been any different, she wouldn’t have survived. But the tall trees, rough, snowy terrain… It was everything she was adapted for. Out surviving those that wasted energy on slaughtering others seemed to be as good a plan as any for the girl. In the heat of the moment, she’d scrambled out to grab any supplies. A tent. Blankets. Food. A rope. Anything to help her survive out in the cold. In her fervor to grab anything, Willow came face to face with death for the first time in her life.
    
    A blade slid across her skin, cutting the skin open. Tearing her eyes up from the bag, it was a career– A District 1 girl who’d had it out for Willow ever since they’d arrived in the Capitol. The fresh wound wept but adrenaline kept her going. Claiming her bag, of which she’d now shed blood over, Willow retreated into the mountainous terrain, deep into the sequoia forests. Only a mad man would try and climb the giants, which seemed impossibly huge, like they stretched forever into the sky. One could fall and plummet to their doom… It would be difficult to come down for someone that did not grow up like Willow had.
    
    Outlast. That was the goal. And outlast she did.
    
    Over days, with the few supplies Willow managed to gather before she began her climb up the giant with nothing more than a bloodied knife, a rope, and a small axe she retrieved from a body of a boy she couldn’t recognize because of how mutilated he was, Willow stayed atop the tree, cold, starving, but not dead. Canons sounded throughout the cold nights as she struggled to stay awake and alive. Thankfully, melted snow made for a great source of water.
    
    She would outlast. She would survive for Finley. For her family. She would keep her hands clean of blood and her conscience clear of murder.
    
    The tributes were dwindling, but not quickly enough. While the elements were abusing the tributes, sponsors provided matches and blankets to those in need Willow knew she couldn’t win by waiting for everyone else to die. A half of the tributes were left in the Games, weak from hunger, frozen half to death, and desperate for some sort of comfort, Willow began her descent down the grand Sequoia which sheltered her so well. Half frozen fingers cried out with each movement. Despite the gloves she’d been providing, the cold was biting. It chilled her to her bone. Ice collected on the ends of her hair, eyelashes covered with snow.
    
    She needed a fire. She needed actual water… A blanket… She would die from the elements if she didn’t figure something out soon. When her feet hit the snowy ground, Willow collapsed, face hitting the snow and vision going blurry. Her body hurt, her lungs burned, her body was desperate for some sort of relief. As Willow mustered the courage to roll on her back, the sight of the falling capsule kept her fighting. A gift. A sponsor wanted her to stay alive. Hot soup revived some of her energy, inspiring her to trek to the top of the mountain where the cornucopia was. Maybe she would find matches, a blanket, something to keep her alive.
    
    What she found instead was an ambush.
    
    Her fellow tribute, a sweet and innocent boy barely 13 years old, coming at her from behind with a small knife, slashing her coat open and barely missing her torso. “Gareth!” Willow cried as she fell to her back, eyes wide at the sudden attack. “What the hell?!” If anything, they’d given each other a silent oath to protect each other. But Gareth was thirsty for blood. “I’m going to win.” He growled out, slowly approaching the girl with a bloody knife in his hand. “So just die already!”
    
    With that, he pounced, jumping towards Willow only for the girl to roll away, breathless and horrified. “You don’t have to do this!” She exclaimed, looking for anything to protect herself. He’d knocked her axe out of her hand and she was left with nothing to defend herself. “Please, Gareth. Just.. Think about this!” But he was only thinking about killing her. Another swing. He’d knocked loose something from his pack. An ice pick. In her desperation for retrieving the small tool, Gareth had jumped on top of her as she wrapped her hand around the pick, pulling back and screaming in pain as he pierced her left hand with the knife with no mercy. “You know… I’m going to enjoy killing you. I want them to see. That I am the one that deserved their attention. Their applause. Not you!” He pulled the knife from her hand, the wound weeping bright red onto the pure snow. Well, she was down one hand…
    
    Without thinking, her instinct of survival overtook her empathy for the boy and without thinking, she drove the ice pick through his eye, driving it as far as she could until Gareth’s screams were silenced and his body went limp over her. She smeared the wet blood from her face, looking at the lifeless boy in horror. He was just a kid. A kid she’d murdered. Her hand hurt and she knew if she didn’t patch it up soon, she’d bleed out.
    
    Taking her time to collect Gareth’s supplies, she stole his jacket, his weapons, his matches and ripped off the fabric of his pant leg to make for a makeshift bandage.
    
    The end of her Games went by in a blurry haze. Willow remembered lots of blood. Her gloves were soaked in the blood of her fellow tributes as she used axe, knife, and ice pick to end their lives. She’d killed many, more than she wanted, sated the Capitol’s hunger for blood. Tainted her own innocence in a matter of days.
    
    Willow watched in anticipation from the edge of the Forest, the District 10 tribute approached, but it was too late… Violet had taken another victim. A knife through the chest. Blood spilled onto the white snow in the center of the arena. All that was left was Willow who’s kill count… she couldn’t remember how many lives she’d taken And Violet, a career from District 1, who had sliced her during the bloodbath.
    
    Approaching with silent footsteps that soon turned to running, she dashed towards Violet who was reeling for weapons. Throwing the axe as hard as she could, the thick blade met its target, now Deep in Violet’s abdomen. Still, despite the blood, Violet was still kicking. All that Willow had left was her knife and the desperation of survival. Stab after stab Willow went, plunging her blade into Violet until there was no motion left. Though Willow managed to escape the Hunger Games without many lives on her hand, the brutality she’d shown against Violet and the other tributes thrilled the Capitol. She was deadly. She was victorious. She was their precious Victor.
    
    The kind and innocent Willow Alder was a killer lying in wait.
    
    With a hand now scarred and scorned from the games and a girl reeling from becoming the murder, she was quick to become a fan favorite inside the Capitol. Parties upon parties, requests for private chats and dinners. All done with the threat of her family being killed if she refused. And so Willow continued on with a smile, exhibiting the traits of a liar, a deceiver, but gaining crucial information on hundreds of influential Capitolites. She was a woman wanted for her looks, but a deadly force fueled by secrets and distrust. Her necessity to protect her family was the only thing keeping her performing for the Capitol and her desperation for revenge against the Gamemakers and Capitol kept her fighting for change.     Quiet, charming, and seemingly meek, Willow certainly appeals to the Capitol's need for gentle souls turned violent. Prior to her games, she appeared gentle, docile and apparently harmless but the others quickly learned how lethal she was. Clever and sharp as a knife, Willow's mind and her ability to quickly problem solve provided her many benefits in the arena. She is attentive and despite her silence, she is always paying attention to everything, soaking in every morsel of information spoken in quiet whispers or low chatters. Secrets fuel her. She is greatly patient and will see any plan out over extended period of times if it's what it takes. She is stubborn as hell, determined to enact her vengeance against the Capitol. To others, she can appear warm and friendly, but the truth is none known the true Willow. Perhaps some would call her two-faced, a liar, a deceiver, but it is simply survival to the victor.     Tarlo spoke, while also signing. "It is often the things you dismiss that lead to your downfall."
    
    "Insightful words! For your age, you're quite mature, Tarlo. I know you've had to take a role in caring for your siblings after the accident in 12. Do you think those skills will help you in the Arena?"
    
    "I'm sure they will. I'm used to taking care of myself in 12... I'm sure the Arena will be no different. I-- I think I'm ready for whatever they throw at me."
    
    "Hopeful determination! I love to see it! We've only got a few more minutes, but... Is there anyone back home you'd like to send a message to? Anyone at all?"
    
    "I will fight with every breath to get home." Tarlo finished speaking but she signed: 'I will persist. I will survive.'
    
    what their game was like: The 71st Hunger Games was a design inspired on old, decaying mine shafts. . Designed to force tributes through tight spaces, dusty halls, and endless dead ends, the arena was dark, dusty, and suffocating. Despite being from District 12, Tarlo was not equipped to survive in the Arenas mines. Children in District 12 were unable to work in the mines until they turned 18, losing the valuable skills of working that many districts reaped the benefits of. In addition to her lack of experience, the dark was a fatal environment for her to survive in. If she couldn't use her sight, what could she use? Not her hearing, that was a given. The dim lights of the tunnels and mine shafts would be the only light allowing her to use her sight, and with her hearing clearly lesser than the other 23 tributes, death would surely come quick to the girl with all the disadvantages.
    
    Tarlo wasn't even an underdog-- she was a walking corpse.
    
    It was only by luck the she survived the bloodbaths, a tribute stepping off their pedestal early and causing a small explosion forced the roof of the mine shaft in, separating Tarlo from the cornucopia, supplies, and any bloodthirsty tributes that knew she would be an easy kill. With the dust rising from the rubble, Tarlo did not attempt to seek any sort of tools from the Cornucopia, using her opportunity to disappear in the inky abyss of the mines. This arena was not a maze by any stretch of the imagination. While some tributes found that to be a relief, Tarlo only found it to be nerve-wracking. After all, with a maze, it would force tributes apart. With this straightforward layout, there was bound to be bloody combat within the first few hours.
    
    Still, her determination to win despite her weaknesses was ever persistent. She would put as much distance between herself and the other tributes as possible, making her way down the depths of the mineshafts, deep underground, with nothing to use as supplies. She did, however, collect what she could on her way down. A loose wooden beam, shards of rock, rope from the safety bridges across unsteady areas. She would use the resources of the desolate arena to craft herself weapons. During her descent, it is here she noticed the gas lines which ran through everything and everywhere. Curious.
    
    Her plan wasn't completely sound, despite going in the opposite direction of a majority of the tributes. The farther down she went, the darker is became and the less reliant she could become on both her vision and her hearing. In the dimmest part of the mines, Tarlo was nearly helpless, clutching her makeshift knife as she hesitantly delved deeper in. Tripping over a lump on the ground, she was convinced that it was her last moment but a girl, grumbling from just being bashed in the side by Tarlo's foot emerged from a thick piece of fabric that appeared to blend in with the ground. "Ouch!" The girl hissed out, tossing the fabric off of her.
    
    "What the hell?!" Tarlo murmured to herself, looking at the tribute with wide eyes as she held her knife out in front of her.
    
    "Oh. You're the deaf girl." The girl said, seeming to relax upon seeing Tarlo wasn't a career. Lyla. That was her name. She scored an 8 on the evaluation. Why wasn't she trying to kill her immediately. Still keeping herself guarded, Tarlo, picked herself up. "I didn't see you."
    
    "No shit. That was the point. The idiots from five passed over me an hour ago. I can't believe you're the one that did."
    
    Despite Lyla's harsh personality, the girls quickly decided that allying together would be their best option together as apparently her district ally had betrayed her and the District 12 boy died in the blood bath. Tarlo was wary of Lyla, of course but nessecity called them to work together. Lyla could be Tarlo's ears, and Tarlo could work to set up the traps she'd been planning all games. The gas lines were going to be there way out of this game.
    
    On day four of the games, the girls began making their way back to the cornucopia. Lyla scouted out the day prior, and to their delight, the careers, a girl from District 9 and the Boy from 7 were camped out in the cornucopia, basking in fresh water, food and safety. They have guards posted at each tunnel shaft entrance, ready to stab, shoot, or dismember whatever poor soul thought they would be able to savage resources. It was time for a second bloodbath. One that would eradicate 8 tributes in an instant.
    
    That meant Lyla and Tarlo only had to deal with each other and the remaining tribute from District 8-- Was Tarlo going to have to kill Lyla? Could she? How quickly would they turn on each other? That thought scared the girl but they would deal it once they'd executed their plan. From the southern tunnel, Lyla approached throwing a rock to draw the attention of the careers. It worked perfectly. With that distraction, Tarlo as able to crawl along the permitter of the Northern entrance, poking precise holes in the gas lines which released the gas. She was quick to make her exit, meeting back with Lyla when the careers gave up.
    
    A commotion distracted them-- the district 8 boy apparently had entered their domain without permission and the careers were pouncing. "It's our chance." Using the flint Tarlo chipped off from the lower levels of the mind, they used the end of a wooden beam to light it on fire. "Brace yourself." Passing the makeshift torch to her partner, they gave each other a nod. "See you on the other side."
    
    In tandem, once Tarlo knew Lyla was in position, the girls tossed the flaming beams inside the large space and in an instance, Tarlo's body was being thrown back against the mine shaft walls. The explosion caused the roof of the mine to cave in, burying the careers in a pile of flaming bodies and rubble. One canon sounded. Then four. Then six. Then nine. The district 8 boy-- That meant...
    
    Tarlo and Lyla were the only tributes left.
    
    In the end, Tarlo emerged victorious, the blood of her ally-- of her friend-- on her hands, splattering her face, coating her body. But it was the only choice she had. Lyla attacked first, coming at her from the left, her deaf spot, and bludgeoning her in the head. Tarlo had no choice, using the makeshift knife to slit her throat, cutting a vital artery. Hence the blood. But she'd won. She'd won the Hunger Games, despite everything...
    reputation: Tarlo was an unlikely victor from an outlying district. A deaf victor? What were the odds? While the Capitol loved the story of an underdog, many see her actions in the game as simple luck and using her ally to do the heavy lifting. Still, most see the intelligence in her choices in the Games. Despite her disadvantages, she prevailed-- a tale that Panem hadn't seen in a long while. Tarlo was an unconventional victor that many perceive as undeserving of her win. Her initial unwillingness to participate in President Snow's favors put her in the eye of those in power, in an unsavory light. But, as all victors eventually do, she came around and remains popular with patrons.

    caesar: it seems district 6 has been on quite the winning streak, wouldn't you say?
    
    isaura: i would say yes. the tributes district 6 have produced have been well rounded, deadly and extremely intelligent. if you study the games, you can see that their adaptability and versatility in the games puts them at a higher advantages than some of the other districts. while the career districts may be good with a sword, can they start a fire? and while the outer districts may be able to hunt well, can they really wield a weapon? no. we are smarter, faster, and better then any of the tributes that have come before. and district 6, over the past three years have proved it. i will be the next great victor from district 6, just you wait.
    
    caesar: oh isaura! as vibrant and ready to take on the games as ever! isn't that delightful! now, isa, i know you're close with your parents. you father, after all, he's the mayor of district 6. i'm sure you would make him proud by winning... don't you think so?
    
    isaura: i've got a little sister on the way, caesar... i think it would be an awful shame for her to grow up without knowing how wonderful an older sister she has. i want to win for her-- and make them all proud.
    
    caesar: a little sister on the way! ah, how touching! when will she be born?
    
    isaura: she's due next month... right after the games... so-- hopefully my parents will be gaining a daughter instead of losing one...
    
    caesar: well, we certainly will be rooting for you isasura. as intelligent as you are-- i'm sure you'll figure out a way to surprise us all! everyone, isasura finch! district 6!
    
    what their game was like: Set in the midst of a vast ocean, with no land on any side, isa's arena was an oil rig, running four stories deep into a bottomless pit of water, with no end and no beginning. the ocean seemed to go on for miles, and miles and if a tribute were to jump off or find themselves in the water, they would perish quickly, drowning from waves, exhausted, or hypothermia of some sort. in this oil rig arena, the cornucopia laid at the top, providing supplies for the four story labyrinth below. of course, tributes could choose to stay atop, but they would be exposed to the harsh elements, including a blazing sun, freezing nights, and torrential downpour at times, and to each other. it was in a tributes best interest that they found themselves in the labyrinth.
    
    is aura's games were quick. far quicker than usual. and god they were bloody. the tributes that year hadn't come to play, and it thrilled the Capitol. it took the 24 tributes a total of 3 days to end. 3 days of children suffering in the pits of the oil rig, drowning in blood, salt water, with knives plunged into their flesh. of course, isaura was plotting and planning from the beginning. a cunning girl with a wild brain, she used her size and her sped to her advantage, quickly snatching whatever she pleased from the cornucopia before disappearing into the maze beneath the oil rig. electricity ran throughout the oil rig, like live train tracks-- now that was something she would use. but that was a finale act. for now, she would wait and watch and pick off those that tried to hurt her.
    
    of course, a wicked trap left her reeling with an injury. spikes pierced her foot, leaving her limping and groveling in pain. thankfully, a kind boy, rather then killing her, tended to her wounds. "my sisters hurt themselves a lot..." he said while ripping his jacket to create make-shift gauze. "this won't fix it completely, but it should help... you're isa, right? my name's jack."
    
    allies were good, they were tools, but to isaura this was more then an alliance with jack. he showed her mercy and isaura, fiercely loyal to those that helped her, would protect him with her life. the two were deadly together. isaura was smart, creating traps to send tributes to their death while jack provided the brute force they needed, slashing and slaughter any of those that approached in the night.
    
    together, the pair killed 11 people. almost half of the tributes lives had been claimed by jack and isaura.
    
    of course, they weren't finished. isa's grand finale hadn't yet been enacted. tying live wires carefully around a metal pipe, she created a trap... an electrified pool third floor with a pile of supplies floating in a makeshift wooden island in the middle. "we should wait... until the careers come.." jack suggested, removing the elctricfed poles from the water. and so they did, waiting and watching as a pack of seven entered the water. both tributes from district 1, district 2, and district 4 and a lone tribute from district 8. plunging the pole into the water, the screams and cries of the tributes echoed in her mind, searing skin roasting with electrical current running through their body. the 11 kill count quickly went up to 18, and soon, there were only 6 left in the games.
    
    2 died from drowning, stuck in a room with no way out.
    
    1 died tumbling off the oil rig.
    
    another from dehydration, the idiot drinking the salt water filling the oil rig.
    
    and then there were 2.

    - she is spared the life of a "desirable" victor by becoming a successful transportation engineer, providing the capitol and panem with crucial designs for railways, hover crafts, and many other forms of transportation seen around the district.
    - occasionally mentors tributes, but not very often as she is busy supporting engineers and designers.

  Marya was born and raised in the northern backwoods of District 10, leading a quiet and peaceful life among the rural wilderness. She bore the mantle of the eldest daughter, a duty that weighed heavily upon her slight shoulders, especially with five younger siblings relying on her watchful gaze. The Belgravs were by no means an affluent family, and had nothing much to their name but a small slaughterhouse which generated only enough money to put food on the table most days. Despite this, Marya finds it hard to remember a time when her parents weren't ever smiling, a warmth that extended to her and her siblings as they grew into young adolescents. When she became old enough, her days were often spent carrying out difficult manual labour when assisting her father in preparing carcasses and severing animal heads. It was a monotonous and gruesome process to cut an animal open: Behead, skin, slice, repeat. But it quickly became second nature for the Belgrav girl to know how to butcher flesh with surgical precision, and even quicker for her to do it unflinchingly. Her father, Ilya, was always so proud of her for never being the slightest bit squeamish in the face of such brutality, but the truth was that Marya could only handle brutality against animals as long she wasn't the one to deliver the killing blow.
  
  As the years went by, winters grew colder, and with this came a famine that spread throughout the entirety of District 10. It tore through families and killed indiscriminately all while the Capitol turned a blind eye, maintaining the law that forbade District 10 civilians to eat any of their livestock, enforcing that the Capitol's needs must come before their own. Marya was one among many twelve year olds to end up taking the maximum amount of tesserae just to feed their families. She took up the practice of hunting, as well, learning from her father, flinching as she pulled bowstring after taught bowstring, something dying inside her each time she shot an arrow through the skull of a helpless rabbit or doe. The forest, previously a young Marya's sanctuary, was now a place of death and loss of innocence.
  
  But eventually, game became scarce as more and more people from the central towns started moving up north to hunt in the woods, desperate for any means of survival. The food that Marya sacrificed her livelihood for wasn't enough to stop her mother from wasting away. Her youngest brother, Gavril, died shortly after their mother, his figure reduced to an emaciated thing held up by fragile, protruding bones.
  
  Grief lingered within the Belgrav house, driving its clutches deep into the heart of their father, who was inconsolable for months after the deaths of his wife and son. There was no warmth to be found, only a palpable despair that weighed heavily on everyone's minds along with the ever-present hunger gnawing at their insides. The last thing Ilya Belgrav asked of his eldest daughter was not a decision made by a rational mind. Alas, he did not know the cruelty behind his words when he asked her to cut him up and feed herself and her siblings with his flesh, only focusing on the surety that his children would survive another few weeks. This belief made the ultimate sacrifice worth it, in his eyes.
  
  Marya resolutely refused to kill him, unable to even look at him without crying after he told her his wishes. She was only fourteen when she found her father lying dead on the floor, taken by the same hunger that stole away her mother and brother, and only fourteen when she came to the same conclusion that her father did: her siblings would die soon, one by one, if she didn't take matters into her own hands. Silently, grievingly, hopelessly, she obeyed her father one last time.
  
  The 70th reaping in District 10 was a grim affair, as the regular Capitol visitors were greeted by a frigid, grieving silence from a crowd full of gaunt, sunken faces. Among them, Marya stood alongside her siblings as she watched the proceedings, seething with quiet anger. It had been a month since her father died, and resources were once again slowly depleting. A plan began to formulate in her mind, knowing that the Capitol only showed favour to the chosen tributes who were forced to participate in the yearly Games, attention that extended to their families. Perhaps if she were chosen this year, she might secure her family a steady supply of food, at least until she was killed off, and even longer if she ended up the last one standing.
  
  The name that was called may not have been hers, but she guaranteed her status as a tribute when she immediately volunteered, restoring an unwavering tenacity behind her eyes and an almost unfamiliar feeling settling in her chest. It wasn't until hours later, when she found herself sitting on a train bound for the Capital that she finally recognized the lightness within her, returning to her after years in the dark.
  
  The fickle, joyous, addicting warmth of hope.
  
  

  THE 70th GAMES.

  The 70th Hunger Games unfolded across vast flatlands, with endless fields of towering grass that extended for miles. At the arena's edge lay a dense forest, visible in the distant horizon from the tributes' starting point. Marya's instincts guided her straight for the sheltering trees, not bothering to make alliances or go out of her way to kill. The boy from her district had barely spoken to her at all in the days leading up to the Games, which left her more relieved than anything. It would be easy for her to aim for the kill, if it came down to the two of them.
  
  When the Games commenced with the sound of a gunshot, she sprinted into the nearest grass field, determined to reach the forest. The towering grass quickly obscured her view, causing panic to set in. Several cannons sounded off in the distance within the first hour. With no weapons, supplies, or clear navigation, Marya knew she had no choice but to press forward in blind faith. For Yulia, she thought. For Mattias. For Grigor. They need me.
  
  Supply packs were randomly scattered throughout small clearings in the grass, termed 'danger zones' by the game makers. By pure accident, Marya stumbled upon one such clearing and discovered an untouched supply pack at its center. As she reached for it, another tribute burst through the grass, wielding a bloodied dagger and looking as bewildered as she. A tense standoff ensued, culminating in the boy frantically lunging at her with the dagger aiming for her throat. In the few split seconds between life and death, Marya dodged his attack and, without hesitation, grappled until she overpowered him, hands circling around his neck.
  
  She didn't let go of his throat until a cannon thundered loudly to signal his death, feeling more than seeing the life go out of his eyes. Feel sick, she let go of him, spiraling even more into distress as she struggled to remember his name or district. He seemed so pale. And so, so young.
  
  Marya moved on, strapping the supply pack to her shoulder. Night fell over the arena a little while afterwards, and she felt just as lost as she had when she began. Tiredness pricked at the edge of her eyes, slowing her movements. She managed to find another empty clearing, this time with no supply pack, and concealed herself at the edge of it within the grass. Armed with nothing but the dead tribute's dagger, she tried her best to settle in for the night, ears attuned to any slight variations in sound.
  
  It must have been in the middle of the night when she heard rustling in the grass, her grip tightening around the dagger at her side in cold anticipation. The noise grew louder, blades of grass jostling against each other, telling her that the unknown thing was moving ever so steadily closer. It sounded like someone was running.
  
  "Joya?!" A girl's voice cried out. "Where are you? Hold still, I'm coming!"
  
  Marya hesitated. Joya? It didn't sound like any name from the victor roster.
  
  The girl ran into the clearing, eyes wild and searching frantically for something she couldn't see. Saffron Laureline, Marya recalled, a flashy career from District 2 who was surprisingly deadly with a spear.
  
  She was limping, sporting a bloody gash on the side of her calf. From the looks of it, Marya reckoned the wound to be quite deep. Despite this, Saffron didn't seem to be the least bit concerned about her injury, and instead continued to cry out for 'Joya,' sounding half-crazed.
  Marya hesitantly decided to make her presence known, emerging from her hiding spot to approach the near-hysterical career. Saffron turned to her, tensing up. "Don't come any closer."
  
  "Then shut up, you're practically telling everyone 'Come kill me now.'"
  
  Saffron's eyes narrowed, gaze moving to Marya's hands, which were pointedly unarmed. "And you? Are you gonna kill me? Hm, butcher girl?"
  
  Marya couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Tempting. I don't think you could get very far with that bad leg."
  
  "Then why are you still wasting time talking to me?" Saffron snarled.
  
  Marya paused. She didn't quite know how to answer. Instead, she settled for, "Whose name were you calling out?"
  
  Saffron's gaze locked with her own. "My sister," she whispered. "I thought- I heard her voice. She was here. Did you see her?"
  
  A relative in the arena? Impossible. And there weren't any sibling tribute pairings this year, though they were usually quite the rarity either way. "Did you hit your head or something?" Marya asked slowly. "In case you forgot, we're in the middle of a deathmatch. Why would your sister be here?"
  
  "Fuck off," Saffron sighed, looking tired. "I just know I heard my sister’s voice and ran. Lost sight of the others. Then that District 7 bitch came and shot an arrow through my leg. I know what I heard, alright? I just..." She gasped as slumped down to the floor, leg giving out.
  
  "Hey, take it easy," Marya said, stumbling forward to try and hold the other girl up, and considered the wound carefully. "Wait here, I think I have some bandages..."
  
  The two girls formed an uneasy truce for the night as Marya patched up Saffron's leg. She was reminded of the times when she had to tend to her brothers’ wounds whenever they roughhoused a little too much, heart aching at the memory of home. Surprising herself, she quietly admitted, “I miss my own siblings, too… I hate that I’m not there to protect them.” She smiled fondly. “They all say they’re old enough to take care of themselves, and maybe that’s true but… I just can’t help but worry, you know?”
  
  Saffron seemed to soften ever so slightly, nodding without looking at her. “Yeah. I get it. My sister’s the same age as me, but I don’t think I’ll ever stop worrying about her. When I heard her voice earlier, something in me just– I just had to follow. I had to see her for myself. Nearly drove myself crazy thinking about what could’ve happened to make her scream like that.”
  
  That was… new. Marya began to doubt her original evaluation of Saffron’s sanity. “Well,” she said as she neatly tied the last bandage around the other girl’s calf, proud of her work. “The only thing we can do is keep going, right? For them.”
  
  Saffron got up from her seat on the ground and began to walk, hobbling cautiously at first, then gaining confidence with every step. She gazed at Marya with the same narrowed look from before, head tilting in consideration. “You… did good.”
  
  “Try that again,” Marya said wryly, lip curling upwards. “Like you mean it, this time.”
  
  This startled a laugh out of the other girl, who seemed surprised at her own reaction. “Thanks,” Saffron said, finally. “For the help, and for the talk. I mean it. I won’t forget this.”
  
  The agreement to stick together for the meantime went unspoken between them, and by morning, they set out side by side, walking through the grass with weapons in hand. Days turned to nights, but the passage of time seemed to slow with every passing day as they kept moving forward with no conceivable idea of where they were headed. The few prey animals scurrying throughout the fields, hidden in the undergrowth, were often hard to catch. They passed the time mostly by trying to hunt, starting fires to cook and eat their game, and leaving before other tributes could find them. The tall grass seemed to stretch on endlessly, a vast sea of green that seemed to swallow them whole. The few clearings they managed to find were devoid of any other supplies, and resources were quickly becoming scarce. Marya felt her own sanity wither away with every hour that passed.
  
  In the middle of the day, when things were quiet enough that they didn’t have to worry about being too alert, they would take the time to know each other and talk about the people they used to be, or things they missed the most. Marya found that she liked the rare times she could get Saffron to laugh, and the look on the other girl’s face that told her how pleasantly surprised she was by her, so human and so unbelievably bright.
  
  “You talk in your sleep,” Saffron told her once. They were searching for any signs of a water source, walking side by side, hand in hand. A tentative trust was forming between them, as well as something Marya couldn’t begin to name. “Do you know that?”
  
  “What do I talk about?” Why do you pay attention to me while I sleep, was the question she wanted to ask, but courage failed her.
  
  “You call out for your father, I think,” Saffron said quietly. “You always sound sad.”
  
  Marya stilled. “What exactly do I say?”
  
  The other girl squeezed her hand, seeming to want to soothe her. “It’s okay. I understand. You don’t have to explain.”
  
  “What did I say,” Marya repeated, voice going cold. The very implication that someone else knew, when she wasn’t even brave enough to tell her siblings what she fed to them that day… It was enough to have her reaching for the dagger at her side, ready to silence Saffron in any way that she could before she had the chance to voice that awful, horrible truth.
  
  “Marya, let go of me,” Saffron whispered, fear creeping into her voice as she tried to pull her hand away from the other’s tightening grip. Marya blinked, her grip slackening. Her stomach turned at the sight of an angry red mark on Saffron’s hand where her own used to be. “I don’t care about what you did, okay? I know what happened in 10, what they put you through. They covered some of it in the broadcasts back home, when it was still happening. People were wondering why the price of meat was so high.” Saffron smiled ruefully. “When we found out we... we just gasped at how terrible it was, then went about our day. Like it was nothing more than something interesting to talk about at dinner.”
  
  “I’m glad we could be that for you,” Marya sneered. “While most of us were eating each other only to starve, all we could think about was how grateful we were to be laughed at by some spoiled, Capitol-fed bootlickers.”
  
  Saffron grimaced. “I’m… I didn’t mean it that way. And you shouldn’t talk like that. Not here. The cameras, remember?”
  
  “Of course, how could I forget.” Marya couldn’t help but roll her eyes. It's not like she forgot that Saffron had been raised entirely differently to her, had access to infinite more privileges that blinded her from understanding the harsh realities that occurred in other districts. It didn't make it sting any less, however, to know that there were other people in the world who didn't have to live the way she did.
  
  "You know what? Forget I ever said anything," Saffron muttered.
  
  Things between them were quiet for the rest of the day, a palpable silence that stretched on into the night. Neither seemed to know what to say to close that unbearable distance between them, despite desperately wanting to.
  
  Dusk fell, then a noise in the distance had them both sitting up straight, eyes wide. Someone was screaming. At first, Marya thought she’d heard wrong, but then another scream sounded off and her blood went cold at realizing why exactly it sounded so familiar.
  
  Yulia. It was Yulia’s scream. She sounded so afraid.
  
  “Marya, wait!”
  
  Without speaking, she took off running in the vague direction that she thought it came from, trying desperately to gauge exactly what was happening that made her sister’s voice. Could Yulia possibly be in the arena? Where were they keeping her? She needed a knife.
  Belatedly, her fingers grasped at her side, searching for her trusty dagger and visibly relaxing once she realized she hadn’t left without it. Good. She could tear the throat out of whoever made that sound come out of her baby sister’s mouth.
  
  She heard voices in the distance, and stalked towards the sound. A fire sat at the center of a clearing, supply bags piled haphazardly around it as three tributes Marya recognized to be careers talked over the fire.
  
  “I’m telling you, I know what I saw,” one of them, a redhead named Trin, said, visibly distressed. “It was large and green, almost human-looking. It looked wrong. Like grass, but living. Sounded like a little girl.”
  
  “It’s the field, it gets to you,” a girl from District 4 said, smoothing over his hair. “Calm down, you’re fine.”
  
  “She was calling out the name of that girl from District 10, I think,” Trin continued. “Marya.”
  
  “What did you say?” Marya asked, not even caring that making her presence known to three of the deadliest people in the arena was an objectively stupid thing to do. She needed to know where her sister was. She lunged forward to grab hold of Trin’s shirt, eyes wild. “Did you see my sister?”
  
  “Shit, grab her arms,” someone yelled. “Kane, kill her!”
  
  Trin looked so afraid as he stared up at her, clearly still shaken up by what he saw. “I…”
  
  “Answer me!” Marya snarled as her arms were held back, thrashing against the grip of a boy who was clearly stronger than her. Yet still, she persisted. “Tell me what you saw!”
  
  “Get her dagger. At her side.”
  
  “Stop!” A voice cried, making everyone, including Marya, turn to look. Saffron was at the edge of the clearing, spear in both hands, blade pointed at the neck of the boy behind Marya. “She’s with me.”
  
  “Well, well, well,” the District 4 girl drawled, teeth bared. “Long time no see, Saf. Sorry, but you know the rules. You’re either with us or you're against us. And you haven’t been with us in a long time.”
  
  “I still am,” Saffron replied weakly. “Please just let her go.”
  
  Kane, the boy at Marya’s back, laughed. “Why don’t you prove it, then? Kill her.” He let go of his grip on Marya’s arms only to roughly nudge her forward, sending her to trip onto her hands and knees in front of Saffron. Marya couldn’t look at her, didn’t trust herself to look at Saffron without crying. She fucked up. She wasn’t going home. Her siblings would die without her to take care of them.
  
  “I… I can’t,” Saffron whispered. She tightened her grip on her spear. “I’m sorry.” Then she moved to strike at the girl from District 4, goring through his chest in one swift motion. She slumped forward, blood gurgling out of his mouth as she fell on her side. A cannon sounded off to signal her death.
  
  Kane cried out, “Fucking traitor!” He reached for Saffron’s hair, yanking a fistful of it back to send her reeling to the ground in pain, making her drop her spear. “Should’ve hunted you like the rest!” Saffron cried as Kane grabbed her head, the sound of it sending Marya back to reality. She readied her blade and jumped forward, stabbing at Kane’s back with calm precision, aiming for that lethal space between his ribs and dragging her dagger down to tear deep into his skin.
  
  Another cannon. Then, silence.
  
  The two girls looked at each other, covered in blood and looking more than worse for wear. Wordlessly, they embraced. For the first time in weeks, Marya felt… safe. “I’m sorry,” she whispered.
  
  Saffron smiled. “Me too.” Faltering, she whispered. “Oh.” A noise like something sharp plunging into flesh made Marya look up. Trin stood behind Saffron, her bloodied spear in his hands as he pushed the blade even further into Saffron’s back. His eyes looked cold.
  
  “You killed her,” he said.
  
  No. No, no, no. No. NO.
  
  “I…,” Saffron said weakly. “Trin.”
  
  “Melody. You killed her. You were supposed to be with us.”
  
  “No,” Marya pleaded desperately. The blade was still embedded within the other girl’s chest, blade going through bone. A sickening red started to spread at the center of her uniform. “You’re fine, Saf, you’re fine, please. Tell me you’re okay.”
  
  “Marya,” Saffron gasped out, voice fading. Despite everything, she was smiling. “Tell Joya I tried. Go home for me, okay?”
  
  “NO!” Marya cried as she shook her head in vehement denial. She turned to face Trin, breathing harshly. “You.” Black dots appeared at the corner of her vision, and the last thing she remembered was the slick, syrupy feeling of blood coating her hands, and two more cannons sounding off, one after the other.
  
  She came back to herself the next morning, her face stinging terribly. Tenderly touching her cheek, she hissed at the pain of her fingers grazing raw flesh. Someone must have clawed at her face. She looked around, startling at the blood pooling at her feet. She couldn’t tell whose it was. She felt so very numb. Nothing felt real, anymore. Before she knew it, she felt herself slip away again.
  
  Marya didn’t know what day it was, or how many tributes were left. All she knew was the dagger clenched in her hand. The game makers must have tired of watching her live, because they sent mutt after mutt, grass monstrosities with the voices of loved ones and too many teeth, to chase after her at night. Narrowly, she kept escaping, finally coming across the forest after what seemed like forever and taking shelter among the trees. The mutts were easy enough to avoid, once you knew they were blind. After a while, she stopped flinching at the sound of her sister’s voice coming from their mouths. Sometimes, they even sounded like her father.
  
  She came across the lifeless body of the girl from District 7 one day, a bow and quiver strapped to her back. Feeling nothing, Marya gingerly took the weapon, counting the arrows, savouring the feeling of something familiar in her hands. A weapon for hunting.
  
  Shouts rang throughout the fields, then some screaming. Cannons kept sounding off, signaling the death of three more tributes. It seemed like the Games were quickly coming to a close. Climbing a tree, Marya settled onto a sturdy branch, arrow pulled back and ready to fire at the sight of movement. It must have been hours of waiting before she heard loud rustling in the grass below. Someone was coming. A sword cut through the edge of the field where the grass met the forest, tearing a space for the other District 10 tribute, Erin, to jump through. Hesitating, Marya lowered her arrow ever so slightly. For a second, she remembered one of the few times they spoke, when he told her about his sick mother. A kind lady, who would be destroyed at the sight of her dead son to the point of no return.
  
  “Go home for me,” Saffron’s voice resounded in her head. Resolutely, Marya raised her arrow once more, and released it with a cracking snap of her bowstring.
  
  The arrow pierced through the boy’s throat cleanly, sending him silently falling backwards in a lifeless heap.
  
  She blinked.
  
  “-ulations to the victor of the 70th Hunger Games, MARYA BELGRAV!”
  And blinked again.
  
  A heli-carrier was lowering itself down to meet her. The only noise she could register was a painful ringing in her ears. Yet one thing permeated through the static of her mind: She won. She was going home.

• PERSONA.

  On the surface, Marya presents herself as stoic and level-headed, never letting genuine emotion show on her face unless thoroughly provoked. She prefers to watch from the sidelines, eyes darting to anything she can use to her advantage with a quickness borne out of necessity. She is cunning and resourceful, survival being her number one priority, and is always planning ahead. She prefers the company of animals and nature to that of other people, and is particularly avoidant of those from the Capitol, lacking the elegance and tact needed to mingle or perform for them. This isn't to say she doesn't know how to lie skillfully though, and will use her ability to sway things in her favour whenever she spies an opening, masking her clumsiness with words of outright falsities under a mask of calm. Marya is intensely distrustful of Capitol citizens and loyalists, having been subjected to their cruelties several times over the course of her games. This resentment of hers is becoming increasingly difficult to hide, sometimes boiling over until it spills into violence.

  There is a certain wildness about Marya's presence, discarding any sense of civility in favour of wanting to be seen as a threat. She'd be lying if she said she didn't enjoy seeing bullies and oppressors get what they deserve, developing a certain taste for bloodshed over the years. Despite this, she is capable of being kind and vulnerable, and even craves tenderness though her shyness and preference for solitude may often get in the way of developing close relationships with others. She has a habit of being selfless when it comes to those she holds dear to her, endlessly generous even with what little she possesses. Marya dislikes being restrained or controlled, but will play the game as many times as it takes to change the system for the better.

Only her siblings would know the truth, if they still remembered what she was like before the famine. "I'm not really used to attention, if I'm being honest. No one at home really wanted to be friends with the butcher's daughter."
  
  Caesar clicked his tongue in feigned sympathy as the crowd cooed. "Well, isn't that just pitiful? Never judge a book by its cover, as they say. But look at you now, on national television! I bet they're just kicking themselves back at home."
  
  Yes, Marya thought sarcastically. Because my current position is so enviable. "Um, I would guess so, yes. It is truly... an honour."
  
  "Now, Marya," Caesar said, tone turning serious. "I would just like to say I am truly sorry about your father. You must still be grieving, yes?"
  
  The air seemed to turn cold at the mention of her father, and she found herself sharpening her gaze. She should've expected this. Nodding, Marya replied, "It's been hard for me and my younger siblings. I'm the only one they can rely on, now." Gasps were heard among the audience, the sound of it enough to make her sick with the falseness of it all.
  
  "A heavy responsibility, I'm sure," Caesar nodded, as if he understood. "Humour me for a second, will you? What would you say to your father right now, if you had the chance?"
  
  Marya paused, not knowing how to answer. There had to be a right answer, a way to talk around the question and gain the most sympathy. Yet she found her spine straightening as she turned to look straight into the camera, with only righteous fury in her mind.

  Yes, and the job hasn't gotten to her yet, as she's as resolute as ever to get each of her tributes out of the arena. Doesn't make it any less harder to watch them die with every year that passes by.

  Marya is known for being a lone wolf, with an almost alluring air of mystery around her. She's not one to speak her mind, and it works for her because it makes her all the more intimidating and hard to read. The Capitol keeps a close eye on her and her family because some of the things she said during her games raised some very dangerous flags, such as explicitly admitting to eating her own father and outright disdain for the Capitol. For the most part though, people remember her as being a brutal killer, tearing through bodies with terrifying efficiency. Some caught onto the chemistry between her and her companion, Saffron, but quickly learned that any mention of their relationship only earned a deadly glare from the quiet victor.

  Tullia was born into the family of Linus Travertine, the winner of the 33rd Hunger Games. She was born among the hustle and bustle of the Capitol and ever since she took her first breath had her life been a matter of entertainment even if her parents tried to save her from the curious eyes. From a young age, she was put into the academy to learn and train to become charming and deadly. She needed to uphold her father's pride and a bet with her friend Cyrus that they would both volunteer for the games one day.
  
  During the Hunger Games season and the build-up to that she spent her time tagging along with her father and intermingling with the capitolites while the rest of the year was spent in the academy. She was well known among the Capitol population by the time she reached age 5 and the crowd erupted in excitement when she volunteered.
  
  

  LIFE AFTER THE GAME

  
  Tullia has been trying to place her life back together ever since the games as something had broken in her. Initially, she tried to pretend nothing had happened and move on with her life but the scenes from the games kept on playing both in her mind and on Capitol screens. It was maddening and then during her victory tour she found herself a new companion to ease the pain - drugs. Tullia would often spend days even months locked up in the house consuming all she could get her hands on.
  
  A year went by and as another Hunger Games was nearing her father pulled her to the side and talked some sense to her. She started slowly but surely weaning off the medication and came back into the public eye. All that Capitol had been told in her year of absence was that she fell into deep grief over her lost love and had now returned healed and better. Following the return, she took on the role of mentor alongside her father to coach the 57th game's tributes.
  
  Years went by and her life did get more normal as she learned to deal with all her emotions regarding the games. In general, Tullia tried to keep somewhat of a low profile as any excess in Capitol's interest would bring some good and even more bad. Some of it did come her way when she married and even more when her first child was born but after that it has been relatively calm excusing her mentorship.

what were the games like?

Sierra was blessed in the 64th Hunger Games, the careers were killed off early due to in fighting, the arena was mostly tall grass - she immediately grabbed a knife and rope from the cornucopia which allowed her to set traps in the grass and put the tributes who got caught out of their misery. The citizens were fascinated by this girl, affording her sponsors which allowed her mentor to send her another weapon - a set of hooks, much like she used in the farm. This, along with the sticking knife, allowed her to ruthlessly end the lives of the remaining tributes.

Childhood

as the eldest daughter, Sierra went to work in the farms at the age of seven, it was hard work but it set her up to ultimately win the games. She admits she had a hard childhood, but a happy one, each sibling brought more joy into her life and she would go between working with her father in the farms and caring for her siblings at home

adolescence

from the moment she turned 12, she put her name in as many times as possible to ensure that her siblings and parents would be fed. She knew this would increase her chances at being called so she ensured that she was ready for that eventuality, taking on jobs that would build up her strength and stamina and requesting to work at the slaughterhouse at the age of 13.

Sierra was calm and collected, but she charmed the Capitol with her strong love for her family which won her sponsors. She kept to herself, ignored the alliances being made around her - easier to kill if she wasn't attached - she outlasted the bloodbath and took what she needed from the cornucopia and set her traps. In total she ended up killing three other tributes - two boys and a girl, the girl was the toughest and she was the last of her kills.

Sierra continued to endear herself to the Capitol, ensured that when the cameras came to visit her at the Victor Village, her family was front and center so the world could see how amazing her siblings were, this endeared some of the young ones to wealthy Capitol citizens who sponsored their education. For all the love and support the Capitol has shown her in the last 10 years, Sierra has been a big supporter of President Snow, and is at odds with other Victors who resent the Capitol despite the wealth they've amassed, just as she has.

What was their games like: A lot of rock, good places to hide, a lot of moss and mushrooms growing in the crevice's of the boulders. There was periodical mini earthquakes which dislodged the rocks and killed a number of tributes. They allied with District 2, the girl was killed in the bloodbath, the boy killed in a mini earthquake. Sable and he took shelter in a cave made by some of the boulders. During one night, Sable took her own life with some mushrooms that Zephyr had foraged; he had explained to her when he brought them back not to touch them, they were poisonous so they could use them if required. Zephyr was hysterical, cradling his sister's body until some tributes came across him, he was so distraught that he murdered them in cold blood. The Capitol were touched by his mourning for Sable, which gained him sponsors.
Mentor:He and Sable had a number of mentors.
Reputation: The broken boy who lost his dear sister. He brings her up in every interview, every appearance. He's also adored for the cheerful disposition he has despite his trauma, and the District adores his parties.

History

Childhood: The Valors were blessed with two lovely children, Zephyr and Sable, Zephyr doted on his sister who was two years his junior. Their parents were lucky enough to send both to school in District 1, Zephyr spent a year in the training academy, as he had no drive for volunteering for the games. The Valor children wanted for nothing.
Adolescence: At the age of 13, Sable was chosen as District 1's tribute for the 69th Hunger Games, she was not prepared and as such a young tribute, things didn't look to be in her favour. The moment the male tribute was called, Zephyr did not hesitate to volunteer - no one stood in his way. Their parents were distraught, believing they would lose their son as he wouldn't allow anything to happen to Sable.
Games: Sable and Zephyr allied with District 2. They lost their allies early in the game. After they figured out when the mini earthquakes would hit, they made a shelter. Zephyr foraged mushrooms nearby, keeping poison ones in case they needed them. When Sable died from ingesting a poison mushroom, he was hysterical and violent, lashing out at fellow tributes. After another few days, it was only him and a tribute from District 6 - he killed her by throwing the hatchet which lodged in her skull.
Post Games: Zephyr cut off contact with his parents soon after he returned home, it was too painful for all of them since Sable was no longer there - he thinks they actually divorced since then. He moved into the Victor Village, took some time to try and put his life on track, but he's directionless but tries to keep busy, especially with parties ala The Great Gatsby. He does have a menagerie of exotic birds which he takes very good care of.

    "district four is a career district; where there are aspiring tributes who train for the games. but you midas—you volunteered without any of this training. as a matter of fact, your father is the mayor of your district. some would say you didn't need to volunteer, wouldn't you agree?" diving straight into a plotline—some would say it was a cheap tactic. the ogle of gasps and murmurs showed its efficiency to get a crowd hungry.
    
    A sly smile to show that he could play along. "well who told you that, caesar?" a tease to show that he was different from the shaking tributes they've seen before. they eat him up. "so feisty! well, i have my sources."
    
    "well, it would be a waste to your sources if i don't answer right?" a glance at the audience, they're at the edge of their seats. "yes, but you see, i did it for fun." a lie that was almost instantly met with amused laughter and applause. "for fun?" a prompt to say more. leave it to the capitol to bite the hand that feeds them.
    
    he nods. "we can't have all my peers hogging all the fun." cue the cheers. he presented himself as overconfident—sure, but all the more charming and alluring. "i'm thankful for the life i have back in district four and i think it's about time for them to have a victor whose heart lies so close to home." titania is going to have his head. the audience shower him in nothing but praise. "and who doesn't love an underdog story?"
    
    "right you are, midas. i'm sure you now have many of us rooting for you—isn't that right folks? midas larmanton of district four!"
    

    what their game was like:

    
    midas' arena is modeled after a subterranean river—reminding the districts that without the capitol, they would be lost astray to wander and drown. the 72nd hunger games ran with the idea of an underground labyrinth of cave systems that demanded tributes to be adaptable on both water and land. with flooding caves, falling stalactites, and murky water not only hiding other tributes, there were many things to be on high alert. especially given that without sponsors or supplies from the cornucopia, tributes could only rely on attempting to make a fire or the bioluminescent moss that grew in portions of the caves to guide themselves throughout the arena. with carnivorous piranhas, hallucinogenic fungi that eat at open wounds, and flash floods, it wasn't a surprise that the games lasted only five days but were a hit with the capitol nonetheless.
    
    midas played the social game which helped him take home the gold, receiving sponsors that provided him supplies such as food, a lantern, and his infamous net. out of sheer charm (and possibly the idea that they underestimated him), he had started the games with an alliance with the careers; including his fellow district tribute of district four. however, come the canon fires of nearly half of the tributes, midas made his steps to eliminate his allies before they decided to do so first.
    
    what caught the attention of viewers was midas' strength and cleverness—attributes not many people noticed from him. as him and his allies entered another cave system on the hunt for more tributes, midas made use of the vast and dimly lit space of the cave in order to take his allies down one-by-one. his process of drowning tributes quickly became a technique he was infamous for, allowing quiet and controlled deaths.
    
    the closest he came to death was when his district partner realized his strategy. she was better trained than him, an advantage in her favor before he was able to catch her on his net. the two's relationship wasn't nearly as interesting as other career district partners but as said by midas himself on his victory tour, the two had gotten along and known each other before the games. though whatever sentiments they had weren't enough to spare her from the swing of a stalagmite midas had broken off as a makeshift weapon. he cleaned his net for what felt like hours after.
    
    when analyzing his games, many mentors would say he is a prime example of winning through the favors of the capitol, especially in an arena that showed clear advantages with additional supplies. once he won, he was titled a siren—as alluring as he is dangerous. providing a satisfying underdog story within the underground caves.
    

    reputation:

    a tribute who had entered pretty-faced and overconfident that inevitably rang his claims true. before the games, he was popular around the district as the mayor's son—one either adored or despised by his peers. always a charismatic fellow. to the capitol, he is a golden boy, one who is always willing to parade himself on camera for the entertainment of his adoring fans. to his fellow victors, not much of his "true self" is presented, some would even argue his outlandish and proud nature is a facet of who he really is when the cameras are off. though to the very few who has seen him within the four walls of victor's village, he is nowhere near as sweet as he shows himself to be. a bitter fruit scorned by the mistakes he made as a child, wanting nothing more than to simply live and survive.

    Whispered confessions underneath the layers of textile of Midas' bed. Secrets breathed throughout the Larmanton's house of limestone, hushed by the current of the sea's waves beneath. But none weighed more than those of Caspian Escalus—Midas' closest companion and highest rank career of district four's academy. For the first time in all the years he'd known the career, he looked frightened. As if they were back to infancy and he awaken from a terrible nightmare. Like cold water to a pitiful drunk, it had finally dawned on the young man that representing the district in the games didn't bring honor or prosperity, only death. And if death would come for either himself or others, he didn't wish to find out.
    
    If Midas hadn't realized it was his own body shaking, he would have believed it to be a sudden earthquake. A part of himself wished it were a natural disaster—something to postpone the games to at least give him time to think. He knew even then, the capitol wouldn't be so lenient. The mayor's son since birth, Midas Larmanton rarely experienced the hardships faced by his district. His hands were softer than others, hair lacked the brittle damage from the constant fishing in the ocean, body never starved of food or water. There was never any demand on him to do anything be it fishing or enrolling into the career academy.
    
    The childhood of Midas was better than most, a calf bred to be a show-cow. Not created to work or become someone's next meal but created to be paraded and adored. Instead of being taught a net for the purpose of fishing to eat, he was taught net-fishing for sport, swam for leisure instead of work. If there were guests, he was turned into a spectacle to earn claps and praises. The most labor he had ever been put under would be from his own desire for the sun's beams of light instead of his family's dreary home. In his free time, he'd dive for oysters and break them open for pearls.
    
    Never did Midas face the amount of despair throughout his entire lifetime to what he felt at that moment. "Don't worry." He himself was beyond that point. "I'll handle it." He didn't know how—or at least he had yet to settle on the impending plan.
    
    But inevitably, he knew what had to be done.
    
    Come the reaping, Midas Larmanton volunteered before the escort could pick out a name from the pool of fates. The pretty boy from district four, boastful and quick-witted. He had scored moderately in training and scored even better when earning the favor from sponsors. They enjoyed his spark; already a master of the ship that was his persona, he knew what actions made seas of onlookers bend to his will if commanded to. In another world, he would have considered marketing the truth during his games—folks loved the tragic sob story of volunteering for one's love after all. Yet in those small, golden, pockets of his own solitude, underneath the fabric of his bed, he supposed he felt just a little attuned to his namesake.
    
    A selfless act out of a selfish passion. Dark caves and treacherous depths. Alliances out of chance. Catches in the line. What once felt like a suicide mission in between his lips began to taste of a sliver of chance. Not many believed he'd be the one to exit the arena—Ceasar Flickerman let him know later in his tour that the average bets on him from capitol socialites were 15-1. However, those who believed higher, made it more than known.
    
    Show-cow through and through. He made a spectacle out of himself during broadcasted segments leading up to the games and was awarded the prize of survival.
    
    Midas soon learned the hard way that even prizes came with consequences. His games left his back plastered in the final moments of his victims—their final breaths spent clawing for life only to be met by the murky current of the arena's river. In his district partner's passing seconds, she never stopped biting at his net, rope burn against her palms from trying to snap the bonds apart. Thetis Sevina knew she didn't deserve to die in the hands of an ill-trained and big-headed tribute like Midas. It wasn't fair to her. If the positions had been switched, he knew that he wouldn't have put up as big as a fight as she did. Purely unlucky on her part and extremely lucky on his, but the games didn't play to benefit the fair and just. The capitol didn't play under any rules or regulations but their own.
    
    And thus Midas delivered her a final blow, he delivered many ends to the unsuspecting tributes. Sparing no thought to how their bodies jolted in surprise or how his father would probably call his techniques cheap if it weren't his son being broadcasted. As the game quickly came down to the final five, he played to win.
    
    Five became four, four became three, three became two, and after a gnarly kick to the chest to the swarm of piranha mutts circling beneath where they stood, Midas stood as the final one. The victor of the 72nd hunger games.
    
    Instead of the warm comfort of his companion, he was met with a harpoon inches away from his heart. "A selfless act out of a selfish passion." Confessions meant to remain confessions—taken to their graves. Just because he didn't want to volunteer didn't mean he wasn't going to continue his duty regardless. Maybe it was Midas' lack of understanding of how careers were molded at the academy or maybe it was a form of jealousy he himself would never bare. The uncertainty still rang through his head before he slept at night, wondering where his faults lay and if there was more he could have done. But what was set in stone was that when Midas Larmanton moved into the Victors' Village, he moved in alone.
    
    He brought no family, friends, or loved ones. Besides the occasional visits from his mother and the admittedly rampant pestering of his old mentor, Midas found himself in yet another house too big for himself. Surrounded by nothing but the growing pains of adolescence and ill-gotten victory—fragments of who he was before he took the high road and reflections of who he stood as now.
    
    Who was the boy who volunteered for love? The one was once willing to throw his life away for the sake of another? Had he ever been so selfless before then? What good did it do?
    
    Absolutely nothing.
    
    All he presented was all that was known. So he continued to be Midas Larmanton—as beautiful as he was cheeky. Appearances in the capitol were in-demand and actively responded to. Where others flinched and whimpered, he performed under the capitol's boot with gusto. A favorite among high-paying socialites.
    
    Play your role—win your game. Play your role—win your life.
    
    Barely into his fifth year of residence, the Quarter Quell called for a possibility of his return. Survival never felt direr. Whatever it took, no matter the odds, Midas promised himself to never prioritize another's life but his own.     A coy character to be around, a time with Midas is guaranteed to be unlike any other. Under the capitol's watchful eye, Midas was charming; words always coated with sugar and nectar that make people gather around him for a taste. Silver tongue and sweet lips as they would say. A gleefully smug energy even before the games, one who enjoyed teasing to show affection and throwing jokes with the intention of laughter in return. His playful nature continued to be a facet of who he was now—regardless of the acts he performed.
    
    To most, the siren boy of district 4 never changed when he returned victorious but some knew better. He was scorned now, walls within his mansion left with ugly holes. On the days his masks had cracks, one can feel the lack of satisfaction in his tone, the heaviness in his eyes, and the slight tremor of his hands. Midas was more tired now.
    
    Not that being tired could be an excuse, something to grace a person their life. If Midas was anything, he was always critical of an environment—he could read and room and understand what he needs to do to survive. The capitol liked him the way he had always been on-air, a fraction of who he once was before the games. • HISTORY.

  EARLY LIFE.

  Evelyn is an only child born in the heart of District 8. Her mother was a schoolteacher that taught during the day, as well as after school. After hours, she ran a few classes for the children to learn sewing outside of any classes. The classes typically taught the typical household items like pillowcases, curtains, how to fix clothing, and similar things. Evelyn's mother taught them how to be creative with quilts and explore bizarre creations they wanted to make with clothes. That's how Evelyn met a lot of her best friends and eve first crush. Evelyn's father worked in the factory quality checking and assisting in the shipment of Peacekeeper uniforms out through Panem. He helped Evelyn get her first job repairing old uniform buttons, clasps, and zippers once she was about age eight. Her parents both insisted she didn't need to work, but she explained how she wanted to for the experience! She was a dreamer who looked ahead, so they bought it. While it wasn't completely untrue, she could tell her family was struggling. Evelyn didn't want to make them feel bad and never told them she knew that they needed the extra funds she could provide, even at such a young age.
  
  As Evelyn grew up fairly quickly, she started to see the reality of the reasons why her parents did certain things. The quilts her mother sold had letters and small items sown within them to reconnect families and help them out. The shipments at her father's factory had weapons and more in them to help with rebel forces at the destination. Due to District 8 being one of the most rebellious, that also meant that they were monitored a little closer than others. Despite how careful they were, her father was caught and executed for treason. This was a huge shift for her family. Her mother stopped pursuing anything creative, but didn't make Evelyn do the same. Although, warned her to be careful. Creativity isn't always rewarded and seen as more of a threat.
  
  Evelyn continued on focusing on her school work, part-time job at the factory, and helped some of the other children in her neighbourhood learn to sew. This stopped once she was reaped for the 68th Hunger Games.

  Evelyn was reaped for the 68th Hunger Games at 16 years old. Unfortunately, due to the timing of the games, she ended up spending her 17th birthday inside the arena.
  
  The arena started out as a large forested area with mountains. The climate was quite cold as tributes were dressed in lined leggings and decently warm jackets. Their lined compression tops also acted as slight gloves, though they exposed their fingers. That was something Evelyn was grateful for, especially coming from a warmer district. The bloodbath was chaotic as always. Evelyn was able to grab a backpack by the edge and made a run for it toward the mountain. This was not an environment she was familiar with, but she knew a thing or two about closed-in areas. So, she hoped to be able to find a cave. However, she underestimated just how far the mountain was from the field they all started in.
  
  Soon, she felt alone in the dark forest after a little while, but kept going forward. It blocked out any of the natural light and had Evelyn beginning to get paranoid. Even the paranoia didn't sense as someone tackled her from the side. It was one of the career tributes who had followed and tracked her. This was Evelyn's first brush with death. She watched as a sword came down on her just before it stopped and blood sprayed over her. Evelyn still can see the axe hanging in the side of the District 2 boy's face.
  
  Thankfully, during training, Evelyn did manage to make a friend. Delilah, from District 7, had taken her under to help her spar. Evelyn had a little bit of experience, but not a ton. She did end up training with a sword. As the two of them left she took the boy's sword.

The strands are a dark ebony color, which appears almost blue in sunlight, giving her hair the appearance that a bottle of ink was spilled over it.   Ashryn isn't just some miner's daughter. She is quick-witted and intelligent. Using her brain more often than anything else, she can easily pick up new hobbies and skills without an issue. This girl is strong-willed, not one to ever give up, but she can also be extremely stubborn. Her case of crazy, insane stubbornness is always causing issues. She gets herself into trouble and won't ever back out of it. She is sweet-tempered to those who know her. If you are her family or very close friend, you will see the more protective and compassionate side of Ashryn. Ashryn is very fair, believing that balance is essential. Ash is always giving her all, and she won't lie down and give up when she is met with a challenge.
  
  Many consider this girl as the 'Ice Queen' of all the victors. She is cold, collected, calm, and quiet when you first meet. her. She is not one for small talk, and she holds herself in a regal way. She is sarcastic and sassy when she gets comfortable with you. You will find her mischievous streak extends to a decent 100 miles long. She is very distrustful and wary of anyone that isn't her family. She will do anything for her family. Literally, she is protective of her little siblings and also very much a bit over-protective most of the time. She is also a tad disorganized here and there. Ashryn is known to have a bit of ADHD. She doesn't like sitting still, but despite this little quirk, she is a great huntress. She also patrols the district at night in order to curb her restless side.   Childhood & The Reaping:
  Ashryn was born on December 4th in District 12 to a father who worked in the mines and a mother who was a seamstress. Her father was a man who enjoyed his family and was a well-known miner during the time. Ash was the eldest child - born first out of her twin little siblings. Virion, her father, was always at work, but he decided (after much bugging from his eldest) to teach Ashryn how to hunt. Ashryn quickly caught onto the tricks and tips her father gave her, becoming a very successful hunter. However, the time the two spent wasn't much as he was almost always in the mines working constantly. Sadly, when Ashryn was around 9, and her siblings were 5, her father was killed when a tunnel collapsed in the mines. After that, her mother dedicated all of her time to looking after the younger two and ignoring her eldest. Ashryn refused to abandon her little siblings, and so, much like her father, she threw herself into her strengths. She took on three different ways to support her family. She learned how to heal (which was her passion anyway), she sang for parties, restaurants, and events, and she also hunted. When her little brother turned 10, he begged his sister to teach him how to hunt so he could help support the family. Of course, Ashryn couldn't refuse, and she happily began to teach him.
  All good things, though, come to an end. The day of the reaping had Ashryn beside her little siblings - anxiety rich in the air. The sound of her little sister's name being called indicated everything was going wrong, and immediately, Ashryn volunteered to take her place. Elion, a miner, was the second tribute from her district. And these two are not fond of one another in the slightest.
  
  The Games & The Aftermath:
  The 60th Hunger Games was not a common game. This game was actually in a desert arena. It was all sandy, with an oasis in the center where water could be found and the cornucopia was situated. Every hour had a new challenge: venomous snakes, flooding, parasites, sandstorms, and more! It was horrible. During training, Ash clearly was the focus of many eyes when she demonstrated her skill in archery and sword fighting. She kept her healing knowledge and skills to herself. The first time the horn blew, Ashryn was fighting for her life. She managed to keep a dagger concealed on her thigh from her district, but she needed a better weapon. So the girl immediately found a bag that had a quiver attached to it and snagged a bow before she left. In this arena, shelter was limited, and you had to know how to set up a tent as quickly as possible since there was no cover except for sand dunes and a small creek with a few sparse trees scattered throughout the arena. Districts 1-4 ganged up on her. Trying to find her and kill her. She was actually expected to be the first out and killed. However, she proved the Capitol wrong by surviving all the way until the end. Elion and her did end up making a slight alliance in order to survive. However, Elion was killed towards the end of the games when a tribute from District 6 decided to kill him as he was distracted by trying to hunt. Ashryn wasn't going to lose, though. Many thought her fondness and compassion for her family was a weakness. She proved them wrong. She would not...could not lose. She had to go home and be there for her siblings. Her mother.
  As Ashryn killed the very last tribute in this game, she stood tall and dared the Capitol to refuse her wish not to be bothered. As a victor, she resided in the Victors Village in District 12. However, she was forever changed from the games. She had developed PTSD. She always had to do a round or two in the district perimeter in order to relax herself. She still has nightmares and a scar on her shoulder blade from when a tribute attempted to kill her with a sword. Ash still does healing, hunting, and singing - but she often needs a break between her 'jobs' in order to try and relax. She hates President Snow with a passion and will absolutely do anything for her family, though. She refuses to help The Capitol and actually, despite remaining neutral most of the time, will turn to the Rebellion.
