Anime & Manga Yuri on Ice, man.

Stardust
I've only watched three episodes and am already designing an OC (even though I know jack shit about ice skating). It's just so beautiful. I can't help it. Anyone else watching this series?? Who is your fav character?!

I watched the majority of the show already and I can say with confidence that my favorite is Yuri  Plisetsky and Kenjirou. Phichit is a close third too.

The two Yuri's are an amusing dynamic. But ughhhh. Episode ten. Efffffed me up. I need to watch the last two episodes ffs.

Victor and Yuri are probably my favorite yaoi couple... Just barely ahead of morinaga and tatsumi from koisuru boukun.

Lol. I might be interested in a yoi rp tbh.

(I also have little knowledge of figure skating, but whatever.)

Watched it since everyone was talking about it.

Couldn't get through 5 episodes, I quitted.

The f' is so special about this that everyone praises it about?

@MAGA Hat (and anyone else really)

Well, what I don't get is why people can't appreciate a show without facing deprecation. I'm not that good at explaining things, but I'll just say what I feel I should anyway. I'll keep it short and simple.

Other than myself drooling at the food...

(Probably nothing too important, but just a small warning that I may or may not include potential spoilers)

If you're an ice skating fan from the beginning, that's one reason. They were pretty realistic and on point for a lot of things (ep. 11-12 don't count >:Y ).

Although I've been a fan of ice skating since I was a little kid (although it was more women's figure skating at first because of Kim Yuna), what really convinced me to watch the anime was the music. The music was freaking beautiful, and not to mention, if you actually pay attention to the lyrics, it just makes the anime so much more meaningful.

I'll admit that some parts of the first three episodes were a bit cringey for me. Yes, Viktor made me feel pretty uncomfortable at first, but I decided to continue watching since the comedic moments seemed pretty well-placed, and other peeps told me that the show had potential. After faithfully waiting for each episode, I more or less came to realize that there's a lot of hidden meanings and explanations tossed here and there. Heck, even the weird shit Viktor does (and the fact that it wasn't just the video that drove him to fly to Japan) in the first few episodes gets explained in episode 10.

Imo, the characters are also pretty charming. Yuuri is a pretty relatable protagonist (dat sass tho...) with his anxiety, although he admittedly has it a lot worse than a lot of us. Probably. Anyway, again, it's pretty rare that I like most of the cast, or agree that I can see why some people like this particular character (yes...even J.J. and Chris). Tbh, the only character that I seriously didn't really like was Lee Seung-gil, but that's probably because I'm biased. >w>;

I just felt that the character development was pretty on point, and I, as well as many others, am a huge sucker for these kind of things. (Edit: Just wanted to mention how I also liked how although we first came to know Viktor as this god-like figure, we gradually were presented with Viktor's own faults and the like, making him much more human and relatable as a result)

Did I mention that they properly touch upon mental health and the like?

Finally, here's the point that is probably the reason why so many people either love or hate this anime. The gay ship is canon, but most importantly, it's a HEALTHY relationship that shows a lot of development over the course of the anime. Most people are used to anime just queer baiting, so these were pretty major.

Oh, and before someone starts the argument about this just being all the fujoshis or whatnot, a lot of people that I know who watched and fell in love with Yuri on Ice don't even read bl, myself included, so your point is invalid.

Edit: On a side note, my favorite character is a toss-up between Yuuri, Guang Hong, and Otabek (for being an awkward duck). Phichit be best wingman tho. * ^ * b

Yuri on Ice is the beeeest. I have the last two episodes to watch, but Victor is my favourite character for sure! It took a while for my sister to get me to watch it. The flipping opening is amazing as well. It's not the type of opening you skip because you get bored of it, and the song just gets me so... crazy. :P

Love Yuri on Ice!! If you want to know anything about figure skating you can PM me. I'm competitive in it, and have been doing sence I was 9!

I'll have to be honest, I don't really like yuri on ice. And this fangirl really pushed the line of 'not interested' into the 'hate with all my might' area :P

I absolutely love Yuri on Ice! I got my roommate into it too. I especially love this anime because my love-life is kind of based on it. I will not give spoilers, so this might be vague for those who haven't completed the anime till the very end song of the last epsiode: Y'all know why Victor approached Yuri in the first place? That's kind of how/why my now s/o (once an inapproachable crush) met me~ XD
Sometimes drinking can be good for your health, who knows! ;)

YURIO THAT LITTLE BI-EAUTIFUL BOY RUINED MY LIFE

HE'S SO ANGRY ALL THE TIME

AND STILL A CUTE LIL' SNOWBALL OF CUTENESS

HE NAMED HIS CAT PUMA TIGER SCORPION

AND HE CALLS HER POTYA

he will be the end of me

I've literally only watched one or two episodes and never more than that, but the gifs I've seen on facebook or tumblr are so so GOOD. Like bloody hell, there were so many cute moments. I love Yuuri. Obviously.

The animation is beautiful, the story was lacking in some areas, but was still well executed. The accurate representation, detail, and knowledge of ice skating that they had made it even better to me. I liked the music a lot as well. I tend to stay away from most of the fandom, though. They can be a bit much for me. Still, looking forward to seeing the movie and hopefully a season 2 in the future.

(Rant ahead, don't get your socks in a twist.)

Death Parade
did skating a whole lot better with just one scene. This anime is the very definition of "Oscar bait". In my opinion, the slew of awards it received were undeserved, and its pushy fanbase make it that much worse for me. It's obvious what this anime sets out to do and whom it's supposed to pander to (diversity points, yaoi fanservice), and that's just not for me. I'd ordinarily ignore it entirely, but when episodes for YOI were still being released, you couldn't escape the people who constantly raved about it and pushed others to watch it.

I loved the anime, because I love watching movement and it had a whole lot of that. I also just really liked the characters (yurio and otabek being my favourites) even though there were some moments I had to cringe ...slightly ...alot
It also introdiced me tonthe wonders of katsudon so there is that

It was okay. I think it is highly overrated. Music was really good, overall the animation was okay(Skating scenes were great due to the nature of them and being quite difficult to animate, but I still think they weren't award worthy) but the non-skating scenes animation seemed average. Characters are interesting but some don't get enough development whereas others like JJ get quite a bit. This isn't bad as some of the other Skaters just aren't important to the story and thus don't need as much development. I think the romance was really awkward and meant for pure fanservice. Then again Viktor isn't my favorite character and I feel like him and Yuri don't work that well(I would've preferred Viktor to remain as Yuri's idol and even rival). Story was decent, but not great. As a 'sports' anime it is in the middle for me.

Also, no lesbians as Maki Maki said so this brings the score down to a 0/10.

I would give it a solid 6.5/10 in all seriousness. If it was just focusing on the ice skating and not the romance between Yuri and Viktor, it might have been better. At least for me. I definitely see the appeal of the show, and that it was so popular is good for the show, VA's and studio. I would say it is a pretty good gate way anime though. I think most sports anime are like that though.
