    A
    nother fall semester at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has come to a close.

    Many witches and wizards, including Hogwarts staff, will now board the Hogwarts Express train back to London to visit their families for the winter holiday. The number of students and professors wandering the great halls will dwindle, but this does not diminish the holiday cheer in the slightest. Only those who remain at Hogwarts for the winter break know and understand just how special the castle truly becomes.

    Festoons of holly and mistletoe hang all around the walls within the Great Hall, and no less than twelve towering Christmas trees stand around the room, some sparkling with tiny icicles, some glittering with hundreds of candles. The dining table offers dozens of fat, roasted turkeys, chickens, and hams. Mountains of mashed potatoes and a fountain of thick gravy. Food and joy as far as the eyes can see. It will truly be a unique and unforgettable sight to behold for those lucky enough to remain at Hogwarts this year.

Although he appears kind and charming when you first meet him, Alex is a mischievous gossip in truth. Curious and nosy, he loves to pull up a chair and watch as drama unfolds. Sometimes, he even gives a little push here and there to rekindle the fire. Nothing brings him greater joy than to know what's going on in the lives of everyone around him, except perhaps when those people come to him for the latest update in someone's passionate affair.

Maybe gossiping and making light of situations is just because Alex is an asshole, or maybe it's something more. His family is messy and always has been. Despite their many flaws, however, the Huang clan did everything in their power to uphold a perfect image. It was suffocating. Alex wanted to scream at the top of his lungs every time his father pretended he wasn't involved in some shady scheme, or when his mother acted as if she didn't have a lover on the side. He nearly pulled out his hair when the family swept up all the drama about his older brother dating a Muggle, a taboo for a family so deeply imbedded in Taiwanese magical history. Gods, don't even get him started on his darling sister's addiction to pixie dust.

Ultimately yes, Alex is still a bit of an asshole. But gossiping is also a coping mechanism for him. If he can't air out his own family's closet, then at least he can talk about someone else's crazy aunt.

It's hard to put an end to bad habits when he's roaming the halls amongst some of Hogwarts' most dramatic witches and wizards. When he's not snooping around for the school paper's gossip column, Alex can be found on the Quidditch pitch as one of Hufflepuff's chasers or down in the greenhouse with Professor Longbottom.

backstory:
The love story that produced Niko is a story that stood the rest of time right up until it was brutally shattered. Maja Wrona and Rhodri Cadwallader met in Poland on a holiday trip. Rhodri was a young man known for being adventurous, a powerful auror purported to be reckless as well. Maja Wrona was a young half-veela witch living in Kraków, Poland at the time. As it was, she was also home for the holidays with her mother's flock. The two met in a local tavern and hit it off quickly and the rest is history. It wouldn't be until many years later, when Niko was ten, that things would begin to deteriorate. Rhodri was a man who was seldom satisfied by a settled life and despite being an acclaimed auror by now, his home life was boring. Niko would ultimately begin his first year of Hogwarts with parents who had separated and would finish it out with them divorced. His mother and he moved in with extended family living in Wales until they got back on their feet and his father would become absent and flighty. Niko, now much older, rarely ever sees his father. He also has become a rather stern person, cold and calculating so as to never be hurt again.

HEIGHT . . . 6'3". People expect him to be tall, but never quite as tall as he is. For someone who would rather go unnoticed, he sticks out sorely above the crowd, although his mother training his posture keeps his back straight and shoulders relaxed as he takes a deep breath and makes his way through the sea of people. When he speaks, it’s instinctive to bend forward, to bring himself closer to whoever has caught his interest. It adds a certain intimacy to his approach, making him seem attentive and engaged, though in truth, it’s just practical—being that tall means creating physical closeness can require a bit more effort. He doesn’t hate his height, but it’s more of an inconvenience than anything. In small rooms or tighter spaces, Conrad feels awkward, as if his presence is a little too much, his head brushing close to ceilings, or him having to duck through doorways. The sense of always towering over others leaves him feeling slightly disconnected, like he’s out of place.

VISAGE . . . Conrad's body once bore the marks of his time spent roughhousing as a boy. The early days left him covered in bruises, each one a testament to the physical toll of learning. But those were fleeting compared to the scars that came later, the ones that formed when a blade got too close for comfort. The thin, pale, crooked lines that remain are the only lasting evidence of those days, faint but still noticeable if you know where to look. His mother had fretted over every injury, her worry a constant presence, though Conrad had always brushed it off with a grin and a shrug, knowing it was just part of growing up. Now, those scars have healed over, fading into near invisibility against his otherwise flawless skin.

He's never been one for tattoos. His indecision plays a big role in that, every time he’s convinced himself to get one and had landed on a design he likes, he changes his mind. Also, it’s permanent, what if he gets a tattoo of a dog and then, like, finds out he’s allergic to dogs?

Piercings, however, are a different story. He has his right earlobe pierced, though it’s a decision he sometimes questions. The experience had been anything but pleasant, and the memory of the discomfort still lingers. He wouldn’t wish that pain on anyone, not even his aunt, who he considers an absolute nightmare. Still, the piercing was worth it for the chance to wear his favourite emerald drop-style earring that has become a staple of his look. Jewellery is something Conrad adores. His love for adornment is no secret—he’s rarely seen without at least a few rings on his fingers, most of them rings passed down through his family or gifts from past holidays.

✶ INTELLIGENT / Conrad has always known he’s smart. And it’s not in an overconfident, boastful sort of way, either; it’s just more of a fact. He was always told he was the smartest kid of his age, and it only continued as he grew older. As his classmates fell behind, concerned with parties and such, he remained dedicated to his studies. He has an annoying habit of downplaying his achievements and how smart he truly is, though in reality Conrad has a quickness like no other. He’s a critical thinker, and can grasp concepts quickly. His intellect knows no bounds, and it’s the one feat of his he can say he has above others.

✶ FOCUSED / When a task is put before him, Conrad tackles it with complete focus, honing in on it. He has an innate ability to tune out distractions and tackle the task at hand with a high level of concentration, so he can produce the best possible results from it. He’s able to prioritize his time effectively to do so, and remains persistent throughout, with little to nothing stopping him from reaching his end pursuit. Conrad is undoubtedly disciplined, and has successfully managed to train his brain to stay on task until he can produce something of a high quality.

✶ OBSERVANT / He’s not much of a talker, he’ll admit. It’s not so much that he’s not confident in what he’s going to say, but it’s also not to keep up with his ‘nonchalant image’, as others like to joke. It’s more so the household he’s been raised in, one where children should be seen and not heard. And it’s something that’s stuck with him as he’s neared adulthood. Seen, not heard. He does involve himself in discussions, adding in witty comments to make people laugh, or talking during conversations, but he finds it easier to watch on. It’s what he’s been accustomed to, after all. He makes up for his lack of speech with his observation abilities. He’s very observant, and able to nitpick people’s true selves, based on what he’s seen. Conrad is one of those people that remembers even the smallest details about someone. You like that one brand of chocolate? He remembered, and bought it for you. He’s sweet like that, in his own way. You can tell he cares, even if he doesn’t always outwardly show it.

✶ LEVEL-HEADED / In stressful situations, Conrad finds himself managing to stay calm and composed, attempting to keep a clear mind to approach challenges in a manner that will benefit everyone. He’s an emotionally stable person [ some may argue emotionless, but still ], and he doesn’t let any emotions cloud his judgement. Conrad is beneficial to have in pressured situations, as he provides a reliable presence amongst uncertainty, and proves to be patient.

✶ PROTECTIVE / Perhaps even to an overwhelming extent. Conrad’s constant need to look after others reflects on his ‘savior complex’, if you will. Lack of siblings [ and a father who ‘cares’ ] growing up means that Conrad isn’t technically the most nurturing by nature, though he’s certainly developed to become it. Before making friends, or even acquaintances, he didn’t exactly know what it was like to look out for anyone but himself: he is his father’s son, after all. But people can adapt, and change, and it turns out Conrad is protective by nature. His friends are the ones who have been there with him through thick and thin, after all, and he finds it integral for him to look after them. Even in the face of danger, Conrad finds himself caring about others’ well-beings more than his own; he would stand in front of a bullet if it meant protecting those he cares for.

✶ LOYAL / Closely linked to the above, Conrad is loyal to a fault. He doesn’t have many friends, in fairness, but those he does have can vouch for the fact that Connie would die for them. After all, they’ve [ somehow ] managed to break down the walls he’s so meticulously put up for the outside world, so it’s only fair that he returns the favor, right? His friends are truly the only people who understand him, and for that reason he cares for them a lot.

✶ CYNICAL / Conrad struggles deeply with trust, especially when it comes to people outside his small, close-knit group of friends. He’s constantly wary, sensing that others may have hidden motives or are being dishonest with him. This underlying suspicion affects the way he interacts with those around him, as he’s always on edge, questioning their intentions. He can't easily accept things at face value, and every conversation feels like a potential deception waiting to unfold. Because of this, he has built high walls around himself, keeping his emotions and personal life guarded. He prefers the safety of his inner circle, trusting them fully, but anyone beyond that feels like a potential threat, someone who would betray him or use him for their own benefit. Even when people show kindness or offer their support, he finds himself remaining hesitant, unsure whether it's genuine or simply a facade.

✶ HOT-HEADED / He’s a hot-head, simple as that. Yet another one of those stupid, intolerable traits he’s managed to [ unfortunately ] inherit from his excuse of a father. As he’s aged, Conrad has become better at managing his temper, but it’s still very much present, always lurking, waiting to burst. He’s been described in the past as a ticking time-bomb waiting to explode, or a fuse waiting to be lit. And though he wants to deny it, to let them know that he can actually control his temper, he knows it would be an outright lie. Still, since Hogwarts, he’s gotten better. The wall has been punched in considerably less [ though still punched in ], and he’s taken up meditation to try and stay calm when people piss him off.

✶ CHARISMATIC / Conrad has an undeniable charm that makes him instantly likable, even if he doesn’t talk as much as the average person does. He carries himself with an effortless blend of quiet confidence and intelligence, traits that seem to put everyone he meets at ease. There’s something magnetic about him, a quality that makes others eager to fulfill his requests without a second thought. Conrad knows exactly how to present himself to make others feel comfortable and valued, often without them realizing how much influence he holds over them. This ability isn't just a coincidence—it’s a skill he’s honed over time. Whether it's a subtle compliment, a well-timed joke, or a carefully crafted conversation, Conrad has learned how to work people, getting them to give him what he wants with little more than a smile or a well-chosen word. His charm isn’t just surface-level; it’s a deeply ingrained ability he’s refined over the years.

✶ BLUNT / Conrad has no issue telling people exactly how it is, regardless of the circumstances. Their family history was rich with prestige, tracing back generations of pureblood wizards who had contributed greatly to the magical community. From the moment Vivienne's pregnancy was revealed, Percival and Vivienne were elated, despite the complications that followed. The doctors had warned them, but they liked to believe their daughter was simply too strong-willed, too determined—her stubbornness a sign of greatness to come. Oh how right they were…and what a future they were signing up for.

Cordelia’s birth was not just a new chapter for the Ashford family; it was the arrival of a strong and fiery spirit. Growing up surrounded by magical excellence, it was clear early on that Cordelia was destined for greatness but rather than simply following in the footsteps of her accomplished parents, she began to carve her own path—one that was often a bit… meddling. While other children were content to follow rules and meet expectations, Cordelia’s mind was too sharp, too curious, and too independent. If the world said “no,” she found a way to bend the rules, often to her benefit, but sometimes to her detriment.

From the time Cordelia was young, she demonstrated an impressive mastery of magic, especially for someone her age. Both her parents and the magical community had high expectations of the brilliant Ashford heir and Cordelia was ready to meet them. The Sorting Hat considered placing her into Slytherin, recognizing her ambition, cunning, and resourcefulness, but ultimately decided on Ravenclaw for her curiosity, intelligence, and creativity. Cordelia had no strong allegiance to one house or the other and would have been content no matter the decision. What mattered to her was the chance to grow—intellectually, personally, and magically.

Her early years at Hogwarts were a mix of triumph and trouble. Cordelia’s exceptional intellect and ambition meant she quickly earned the admiration of her professors and peers. However, her penchant for bending the rules, testing limits, and uncovering things she wasn't technically supposed to know earned her more than a few reprimands. Headmistress McGonagall may have admired her talent but Cordelia quickly became familiar with the limitations of the rules. Armed with a keen understanding of magical law, she often found loopholes in the rules, making it impossible for others to argue against her—though it didn’t always keep her out of trouble.

Cordelia’s pursuit of knowledge was boundless. The Restricted Section of the Hogwarts library became her second home, a place where she devoured books on advanced magical theory, ancient spells, and even forbidden magic. Her thirst for knowledge was insatiable, and she was often caught sneaking into areas of the castle she was not supposed to be, determined to uncover secrets even the oldest wizards had forgotten. But it wasn’t just books that captured her attention—Cordelia was deeply fascinated by the practical applications of magic, always eager to experiment and push her abilities to their limits.

Despite her academic drive, Cordelia wasn’t all about her studies. She had another outlet for her boundless energy: Quidditch. Percival, a world-traveling Curse Breaker, had always hoped Cordelia might follow in his footsteps. Vivienne, on the other hand, a healer who had saved countless lives at St. Mungo’s, envisioned her daughter following a similar, more compassionate path in the healing arts. Whether as an Auror, a Curse Breaker, or something entirely her own, her ambition, curiosity, and fiery spirit will continue to drive her forward.
