Thirty years ago the union four unlikely friends would change the way three worlds would interact. Two demons, Two Humans, Each with a unique perspective into the other side Together they turned the three world of Demons, Spirits, and Humans upsidedown. They faced the Darkest hearts of mankind in the form of The committee and the Ex-Spirit detective sensui. They faced the ancient conflicts of demon world in the form of Yomi, Mokuro, and Raizen. Finally each one would find the peace they desired.
Yusuke would go on to marry keiko and together they would open up a ramen shop. His promise to her not to fight again was upheld and they raised two children together. Both have moved out and frequently visit their parents, just last year yusuke became a Grandparent.
Kuwabara would get into his prep school and go on to become a doctor until he accepted genkais dying wish and took over her dojo. It took him a few months to shake off the rust he accumulated but now he stands as one of the soul masters of the spirit wave technique and is said to have trained the spirit detective that took over after Yusuke retired.
Hiei would go on to take over mokuro’s territory along with the half of raizens territory granted to him by Yusuke. His fierce demeanor keeps spirit world from overstepping their boundaries and taking over territory that isn’t there. Though still friendly with Kurama the two can only ever show this behind closed doors as they must maintain the apparent rivalry between them so that neither appears weaker than the other.
Finally Kurama managed to do the same taking over for Yomi. He put dozens of cunning and intelligent apparitions in charge of his courts with their soul objective being to use diplomacy and leverage to keep the tentative peace between the two kingdoms of demon world and the territories of spirit world.

Unfortunately however all the focus on demon world and spirit world has allowed the human world to slip into chaos. After the earths spirit detective seemingly vanished the Committee of Wealthy humans who exploit apparitions has been able to reaccumulate their power and they are hosting a new dark tournament. The apparitions participating in the tournament are made up of exiles of the two kingdoms who were dissatisfied with the peace with spirit world meaning the threat they could possess if they win and have their desires granted could tip the precarious balance that has been made.
Enter Raiju Valdez, the son of Sakyo. Having sat in the shadows of the darkest side of humanity he emerges with a fortune comparable to his father and using his mysterious connections to Koenma and Kuwabara he has gained permission to create his own team to help preserve balance in the human world, and possibly find candidates for the next spirit detective. With him is a mysterious secretary who seems to possess demon energy and a demeanor of confidence that hints at greater power. After scouring the globe he and this secretary Yuna have gathered a team of five fighters and they gather on the ports of tokyo to embark on the cruise to hangman island where the Dark tournament will once again play out.
