This is Shiori's twin sister. For obvious reasons, they don't get along. I plan to use her as an alt or if anything bad should happen to Shiori.

'Follow Bushido' isn't really a Driven. Driven is normally a goal (Become Mantis Clan Champion, Bring down sworn enemy x, etc).

Follow Bushido is probably more of a Compulsion if you want to go that route. (And I'll be honest, Driven-Bushido would be really dangerous in game play terms, because there's no roll to avoid it. Hunger Oni? Sounds like charge-time!)

Also, obligatory generic statement about Mantis being honorless pirates.

It's funny you should mention that, because I actually had a bit of a debate with Rob about this...I was originally going to give her Driven: Become Mantis Clan Champion. Rob said that Driven was usually something lesser and more achievable than that, so that's why I switched it to the bushido thing. I'll probably end up switching it back unless other people have opinions they want to offer.

Driven can be as 'big' or 'small' as you want. It just represents a cut-throat style desire for an end goal. As the book puts it 'something you'll sacrifice honor or family for'. It could be Driven (Have a sandwich for lunch today), though maybe the GM might veto that. >.>

If you want a status-related goal, you might go for family daimyo, or provincial damiyo. Or maybe a sensei of your dojo. (Though I think Become Mantis Clan Champion is an awesome driven, and far more achievable for Mantis than most, since they select clan champions from the Storm Legion whenever there's not a clear succession. So all you have to do is enter the Storm Legion, then assassinate the heir-apparent and current clan champ. >.>)

I did think champion of the mantis was a poor choice given "Can't Lie, Idealistic, and Doubt: Kenjutsu" :P

I agree with that reasoning. I was thinking about that when I wrote the little assassination scheme to become clan champion and chuckling. :-P

I just meant it was a good example of Driven.

In general, Driven is a bad pairing with Idealistic. Driven respresents a failing to the Sin of Desire, and per the book description you'll 'sacrifice anything, including your Honor to achieve goal X', so idealistic just gets self-contradictory in that situation.

Compulsion is probably a more solid disad.

But that's what makes it funny...I mean really, she's a terrible Mantis. I'm still thinking about what I want to do with that though.
