- Very Wise or Very FoolishIn the year 1900, L. Frank Baum published The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He would go on to write 13 more novels before his passing, ultimately spawning some of the most well-known cultural themes, images, and fictional worlds, which is intrinsically connected to America unlike many other wonderlands.
Among the games and movies and musicals, something else rose from Baum's work; the Traveler's Ritual. The origin for it is unknown, but it's been around for quite some time, many believing it to possibly originate during Baum's years working on the books, though he himself never mentioned it. It circulated online during the boom of supernatural games, like the Elevator Game and Charlie Charlie, but has been found in other forms in books and notes.
What is the game about? Simple: A journey. The steps of the ritual prepare the player to become a 'Traveler', and be whisked away to another world, presumably Oz, though some variations speak of the destination in darker strokes. Like many games about entering other worlds, there is very little knowledge of what one should do to return if at all possible; many posit that there is no way back, or if there is, nobody has spoken of it. Some posit that there is a treasure, or a wish, that will give the Traveler their deepest soul's desire. Some posit that some Travelers never wanted to return in the first place.
This is a story about Travelers on the Road.
This is a story about breaking a curse.

It's hard to describe what kind of RP this is; it plays on themes of internet rituals, as well as character flaws similar to media like Infinity Train or the Witches Road, but it also is an isekai in some form, though I will try to not lean heavily into the themes of the genre, if at al.
You, the players, will create a character who lives in North America in any time period between 1950 to the far dystopian future. For some reason of their choosing, they will follow the Traveler's Ritual; do they want the treasure at the end? Is it for a loved one? Are they being chased and can't think of anywhere else to go? Either way, detail the background of this person and why they would choose to complete the needed steps.
For the Ritual itself, contextually, it's not super popular; in the late 1900s it was a distant urban legend, in the height of the digital age it was a spooky internet myth ala the Elevator Game, and further into the future very few may even recognize it.
The characters will spend a majority of time in this other world; while elements from the Oz books are naturally going to come into play, you do not need knowledge of them to play along. In fact, limited knowledge may be helpful for character building; Depending on the year your characters may remember certain aspects, since the MGM classic, Return to Oz, and every adaptation we have in the real world will exist in this universe. There will be rules, but not too many to feel restricted. Some of the story will be built around the flaws of each character, while allowing them to be part of the overarching narrative.
The length of the story won't be incredibly long, but a decent length, I hope. Characters may not be close to one another for some parts of the story, but that shouldn't hinder the narration if players don't mind.

- All standard RPN rules apply, as per usual. Any bigotry or other forms of personal hate will not be tolerated, too.
- I'd prefer real or at realistic faceclaims for characters, please.
- There will be 4-6 players, but if one leaves, anyone is free to join. The way the story and ritual works means people could join halfway and still make changes to the story.
- OOC will be in RPN.
- I'm not the biggest fan of numerous paragraph limits since that stifles my writing sometime, so as long as your post isn't super short (like 3 sentences), and is quality w/o grammatical error, then it should be okay.

- When I mention the 'future' as a time period a character can be from, I'm not referring to one with flying mechs and healing nanomachines; this future would be bleaker and bereft of cyberpunk technology. I imagine things have progressed a little, but we're not writing Blade Runner.
