Xola the Clefable

The Healer of Nirtraga
Name: Xola

Species: Clefable

Gender: Male (He/Him)

Faction: Rouge

Island: Northern Nitraga (formerly Lithulia)

Moves: Heal Bell, Heal Pulse, Moonblast and Metronome

Personality: Xola is, at first glance, calm, wise, and kind. The second and third are definitely true. The calm part is usually up for debate.

Xola is very religious and follows the doctrines of Pantheonism at all times. He is most often found praying to a deity in thanks for what he has and rarely asks for things from the gods. The ones he is often praying to include Xerneas, associated with healing and life, Articuno, Tapu Fini, the Tapu that protects Nitraga, Reshiram/Zekrom, who represent truth and ideals as well as  balance and spirit, and Yveltal, who is associated with the afterlife. However he does pray to them all and observes the end of each year meditating according to the scriptures.

That, doesn’t however stop Xola, who is seen as being very serious by the rouges of Northern Nitraga, from being annoying and a total troll at times. He is usually always cracking jokes and witty one liners and has no sense of sarcasm, at all. Definitely. However as his child, Frost, doesn’t get any of his humor. He tends to tell all of his horrible jokes and puns to his patients. Some say they’re worse than the actual ailment itself.

Xola loves talking about his work and what Frost has done, but has never said a word about Lithulia, his time in Isolude, or how he lost his leg in the first place. When asked questions about his past from anyone, including Frost, he deflects and talks about how much snow they’ve been having recently. Like honestly, it snowed a lot yesterday! How is it not like this on Southern Nitraga at all?

Xola is also known to take anyone into his cave home if they need to be treated and gives away whatever he doesn’t need, but will not be parted from the beautiful woven tapestries of the legendary Pokemon adorning some of the walls of the large ice cavern where he and Frost work and live.

He is also terrified of being seen as useless and being abandoned/alone and tries to stay close to many Pokemon as possible. He also doesn't like talking about Lithulia in general and asks you kindly to not talk about it.

But, oh boy, if you don't stop and insult the pokemon who lived in Lithulia, say “minor” legendaries don't matter or mean any harm to Frost… You better be ready for the only time he’ll raise his voice… And if that doesn't terrify you enough because of the stump of his left leg… A staff can be used more than just a tool to walk and Moonblast is a very, VERY powerful move…. However he will rarely go that far and will only use that move if truly believes it is necessary, he doesn't believe in war or that fighting is the go-to answer, but knows that sometimes you must fight for what you believe in and to survive.

History: Many years ago, Xola hatched as a Cleffa on Lithulia. His egg had been found abandoned in the forest, many assumed that his parents were adventurers who ignored the warnings locals gave them about the island. For his early childhood Xola was alone and kept trying to desperately make a friend or have a family, as the city where he been taken to was crowded, the Lilligant who found his egg only cared for him until he could reasonably survive on his own before leaving. His dream didn't seem like it would happen until the Pantheonists came.

They had come to debate what they believed and as a Leavanny parisher named Lorraine and her partner, a Ribombee named Korra, explored the city they noticed a young Cleffa following them.

They quickly made a plan and tried to gain the trust of the young Cleffa. By the month’s end, Xola was leaving the town where he marched to the one of the forests of Lithulia with his two moms.

For a time, life marched on. Korra helped to teach Xola about the powers of the Fairy-type and Lorraine taught him about the gods in their forest village with the other children using beautiful tapestries she had made by dying her own silk. The pride of the village was the large church made out of trees grown close together where all gods were prayed to. It was there Xola learned and soaked up everything he could learn about Pantheonism. The gods saved him by putting him with his family. He had to learn more about them. During this time, he evolved into Clefairy because he had a family, the one he had been wishing for since he was just a kid.He was overjoyed at finding people who cared about him and it all came to ahead when Korra complemented his progress in a training session. All he saw was white and afterward Korra shrieked with Joy and Lorraine cried and everyone was happy.

Then tragedy struck. Leavanny were commonly searched for on neutrally-aligned islands by armies for their skill at making clothes for soldiers. The armies were willing to use dirty tactics to get them. Lorraine was out one day in the forest collecting berries when she never came back. Only one member of the group she went out with came back in fact -- a Ledian named Lance, who was already heavily injured. Quartzirian soldiers had come to Lithulia and attacked and killed most of the group. One, a huge Swanna, had attacked and captured Lorraine. Lance came to get back up while the fighting was still ongoing. When the group came back… It was too late.

Lorraine and several others had been taken and many Bug-types had been killed in the ambush.

Korra was devastated and threw herself into training Xola so he could protect himself.

While Korra tried to train him, he hid more and more into a shell, putting up a front of bad jokes and puns to try and cheer his mother up. Korra became more and more unresponsive until, one day, she became seriously ill from overworking herself training Xola and other children in the village so they would not suffer the same fate and died a few weeks later.

In the span of three years, Xola had lost both of his parents. That was when a Pikachu who had recently come to the village decided to help out Xola. His name was Crescent, and he had come to Lithulia from Nitraga, as in his homeland he couldn't practice his religion, despite barely being barely older than Xola himself.

Crescent was a healer as well, and he taught Xola all he knew about herbs and healing. Both found it fascinating and were often seen pestering the healers at the church to learn all they could about the craft, the two were inseparable and even managed to purchase evolution stones together when they became adults. As a Clefable and Lithulian Raichu, Xola and Crescent were even more inseparable.

It was no surprise to the village when the two began dating. Slowly and surely everything was well. Xola and Crescent were the village healers until finally word came from two runaway Nitragan soldiers who knew that an enslaved Leavanny named Lorraine was on Nitraga, a slave captured from the “villainous” arceus’s believers. What side of nitraga she was on was unknown.

As such Xola packed up medical supplies, and Crescent saw him off. Xola was going to Northern Nitraga to find Lorraine. If no info was found he would move onto the southern part of the island. Going by a Wailord it would be the last time either of them saw one another, and Xola saw his beloved island for the last time as well.

Xola became used to the cold fairly quickly in order to survive and met with the leaders of Isolude Village, Than, a Glaceon, and Jokul, an Espeon. They agreed to let him stay as their young daughter, Freya, was deathly ill with a fever and few healers lived in Isolude and most of them did not know how to treat things that were not battle wounds.

So, taking up one of the houses and setting up the tapestries in the basement where only he would work, Xola began searching secretly for Lorraine as well as teaching young Freya, who had bounced down into the basement one day and saw the tapestries, about Pantheonism and the healing arts.

Once again time passed and Crescent and Xola traded information by Mail Pelipper about any information they received about Lorraine, as well as fond letters about how they were doing. Xola was forced to destroy any letters with any shred of information mentioning the fact he practiced Pantheonism or anything about Lorraine.

Than and Jokul managed to find out, whether by reading one of Crescent’s letters by talking to the Pelipper first or reading something from Freya’s mind. While Freya was sleeping, Than confronted him.

“I accepted you into this city under the pretense that you were a loyal follower of Mew... You worship gods that are of little importance to the islands of Pelagos alongside the false god Arceus,” she said with malice dripping from her words “Leave this city now or die. And stay away from my daughter!” With that, she let out a Blizzard aimed at Xola.

The shot was strong as she left him on the floor of the basement where he quickly managed to gather the tapestries Lorraine had made before leaving the town with no supplies. Most were none the wiser, and he apologized to Freya over and over again in his head. He was nearing Ice Flow Beach when his leg, which had taken most of the blast from the blizzard gave out... And Xola lost consciousness.

When he awoke he was in a den surrounded by a family of Seel and a Dewgong on Ice Flow Beach “A new rouge, huh? You’re lucky we found you when you collapsed on the thin ice there! Else you would've gotten lost at sea with no hope of surviving!” the youngest said cheerily before the older ones whacked them gently. “Be kind, he's gone through a lot.”

Xola’s leg was unable to be salvaged and was completely frozen enough for not even Aspear Berries to heal it. Dewgong, who was not really a healer, had to get a Gallade who lived nearby to chop it off while Xola recovered from hypothermia. He was still unconscious at the time.

And so, with a staff carved from wood of a nearby pine tree given to them by a Abomasnow, Xola set up to live in an empty cave on Ice Flow Beach as a healer and became a part of a community and helped teach pantheonism to the younger ones. Lorraine’s safety eluded him -- If she was still alive, that is. Xola knew nothing about Crescent after he had fled and prayed he would remain safe on Lithulia.

Then, a few years later word of the portals came. Xola was devastated. Lithulia was his home, he had planned on returning there with Lorraine and reuniting with Crescent when the time came. The village where he grew up and where Korra was buried was gone. The town where he hatched was gone. The Lilligant who raised him till he could fend for himself was gone. It was all gone. He can't comprehend it even now and refuses to speak of his homeland to whoever asks. He only clings to the hope that Crescent left when the portals came -- although he knows that it’s probably not true.

But, with all the recent tragedy one shred of joy appeared, while he was praying to the gods a few weeks after Lithulia fell he heard a noise outside, one his ears were not already attuned to. He stepped outside with the help of his staff and there, older and more ragged nearing his cavern, was Freya... Or Frost as their name properly was.

Although his mother and partner were missing or dead, Xola’s child finally came home. The two have been together ever since.

Other: Frost does not know about Crescent, who is practically their missing/dead dad or their missing/dead Grandmother Lorraine because Xola doesn't really know how to drop that bomb. Xola was also born with the move heal bell. Probably inherited from his bio father whoever that is.
