With a cheeky grin and a wink to the Eastern leaders, Nik began to follow Bex. Taking a moment, he leaned in and playfully slapped Jaxs cheek.

"Were not through yet, soon as I can a bullet is meeting you between the eyes princess"

Giving a laugh, he followed Bex out. Nudging against Godfrey as he went. Once outside he stretched and called to Bex.

"Please tell me I can shoot him at the first possible chance?"

He poured out a small glass of vodka and took a swig without so much as a wince. He remembered drinking with Bex when he first arrived and the question of how he could drink straight vodka like it was water to which he had replied "Im Russian, I would let my people down if I couldn't do it"

He lounged back lazily, watching the interaction between Matt and Bex.

1547916239416.pngMick sat back and listened as the others continued speaking. Somehow he managed to hold his tongue, especially as the East spouted their usual bullshit. Besides, he was finding it much more interesting watching Theo and Bexley addressing each other. There was clearly some sexual tension there and the only shock was that his great leader was remotely attracted to the hippy from the East. He scoffed when Jax made his comment about the meeting not being marriage counselling. The only thing stopping him from laughing was that it had come from the mouth of the skinny little freak who had been trespassing.

When Matthew stepped into the room, Mick gave him a casual nod of friendly acknowledgement but soon turned back to Bex as she confirmed they were letting the East take Jax. Though he would have preferred the opposite, he respected his leader and supported her decision. There was no doubt in his mind he'd see Jax again, albeit well fed and pampered by the the other group. Maybe then his hand might slip whilst holding a knife, or a stray bullet might find its way into the stranger's skull. There were all kinds of options!

When the meeting came to an end, Mick wasted no time in standing up. He'd never been a fan of sitting around in formal kinds of situations. It reminded him too much of being forced to attend school or to sit through court cases. Granted, he'd always been the defendant in the latter situation and that had never ended in his favour either. So, he stood and observed as the others left the room, paying particular attention to the way Bexley looked at Theo. He hoped he was misreading the signals and she was imagining slaughtering the man rather than fucking him.

Mick shrugged his thoughts off and left the room, quickening his pace to catch up to Jay. "Well, that was interesting, wasn't it?" he sarcastically remarked to the woman. He then looked to her and flashed a smile. "Are you up to anything now? I've got some booze stashed away and a empty schedule. Who knows, if you get me drunk enough I might let you take advantage of me," he cheekily joked.

Bexley Withers
Screen Shot 2019-01-19 at 10.47.16 AM.png Bexley accepted the bottle with an open hand and brought it too her lips quickly as if she had been dying for thirst for ages. When she was done she set the bottle back down on the counter roughly. She had noticed the way Matt was getting all twitchy. Attention then turned to see Nik walk into the bar, nodding her head towards him silently, she watched as the man moved to grab the vodka a small smile forming on her face as she remembered what he had said to her when he first arrived…

The memory didn’t last long and she turned back to Matt as he spoke again. The woman let out a small gasp as he called her name weird. ”You are cruisin’ for a fuckin' bruisin’ Matthew.” She called him by his full name, much like a mother would scolding her child. ”Don’t compare my beautiful name to that creeps. My daddy picked out my name as it was the name of my grandmothers.” Bexley then reached for the liquor bottle again, not bothering to let Matt have another drink now that he offended her.

As she took a long gulp, looking to finish off the whole bottle, on man annoyingly nudged his way into her thoughts. Theo had called her name unique…beautiful even. Taking another swallow, Bex pulled the bottle from her lips before shoving it towards Matt aggressively. ”I will have you know that my name is unique, beautiful.” She mumbled, already feeling the effects of the alcohol.

Seeing Theo today had really done a number on her, as much as she would hate to admit it. She was sure that Mick was ready to kick her ass, not missing the look he had on his face as she snuck a peek back at Theo for only a moment. She had spent so many precious years fulling the hate fire and one day could douse the whole think with water and put it out. Scoffing, Bexley moved off her stool and headed behind the bar again, stumbling as she went.

Matt took the bottle with a slight roll of the eyes, getting to work finishing whatever of the amber liquid was left. He'd settled to lean on the bar by now, joining Bexley on the front of slight drunkenness. His mind went to the day's events, and he nearly choked on some of the liquid as a certain stranger came back to mind, coughing and spluttering. He was certain that he was red in the face if the burning under his skin was any indicator. Thankfully Bex had her back turned. But Nik was also right there. Shit. Why was his mind such a dick when he gave it any alcohol at all? He hopefully covered this up by taking another drink as he casually avoided eye contact.

Social awkwardness in the apocalypse sucked. More so when your brain makes you seem like some dumbass. He knew fairly well that relationships were chains. He didn't need to be weighed down only to watch someone else dying. Morbid but true, as he'd already seen such things in life. Still, he wished he could have been old enough to experience life before everything. Especially the parts where you could date someone without worrying about rivalling faction tensions.

Matt sighed as he set the near empty bottle down, letting his thoughts wander, while also keeping them herded away from today's events.

1547932984942.pngDespite how long it had been and the way things had ended between them, Theo hadn't enjoyed speaking to Bexley the way he had. All he'd wanted to do was make sure Jax wasn't left with the West, not when they had no evidence the man was there with ill intent. He picked up on the way the woman had snapped to look at him so she could stare him down. He sensed she was about to verbally attack him but something seemed to stop her before she let any anger out. Still, she managed to shake her head in an angry manner towards him, reminding him once again of how much she hated him. How he'd lost the only person he'd ever been close to and all over a misunderstanding. She addressed him directly about his comment regarding her wanting to control everything and she pointed out people couldn't be trusted. She made a comment that was clearly aimed at him, suggesting he had been the one to turn his back on her. As far as he was concerned, she was the one who had turned her back on him. "You've been wr--" His words came to a halt when Jax spoke up and made a remark about it not being marriage counselling. Theo didn't have the energy to argue against the observation, simply looking away as he felt his face reddening at the intensely awkward situation. He had been about to tell Bexley she had been wrong before - wrong about him - but it was probably for the best Jax had interrupted them.

Bexley eventually agreed with Jax going with the East, evoking a firm nod from the man at the fact the West had seen reason. Godfrey informed the newcomer he would be given a room on their side but would be keeping the cuffs on for the time-being. Despite arguing for Jax to be kept on the East, Theo was still a suspicious man and would remain cautious of their guest, therefore keeping an eye on him, even if others back there were open to trusting the guy. It didn't help that Jax came across as cocky, which was a trait that often grated on him.

When the meeting came to an end and people started getting up to leave, Theo noticed Bexley looking at him. He returned her gaze, even fixing on her eyes for a brief time. He remembered a time when he looked into those eyes and felt a sense of hope. When he'd lost everyone he'd been close to, she showed him he didn't have to be alone in Hell. But then he lost her, so he was alone again and had been ever since. There were people on the East he considered close friends, maybe even family, but nobody had been able to reignite his heart. He was always able to hide his insecurities through friendliness and compassion, but nothing could fill the void in his heart. Was he really that much more alive than the crawlers?

*****

One thing that could distract him from questioning his own existence was the need to ensure the safety of the East. To do that, he needed to focus on his duties. He'd assisted Godfrey in escorting Jax back to the East, leaving his friend to take the man to medical and no doubt explain the situation to their leader, David. Theo had excused himself from any kind of politics and returned to his duties as the Chief of Security. Once he'd checked on all of his scouts, he took it upon himself to keep watch from one of his preferred vantage points, located on the seventh floor of the HQ skyscraper.

Godfrey waved farewell to Theo once they’d returned. No need to make a one man job into two, right? He could handle this by himself. He’ll show Jax to his space and then go find somewhere else to be. He reached his hand into his pocket and crinkles the small paper.
He turned his attention to Jax as they walked up to the medical bay door and Godfrey gestured Jax inside.

“You can find a seat and relax. Beth’s the best doc in the apocalypse, guaranteed. Plus you only really need to be checked over real quick. Shouldn’t take long so maybe don’t relax too much.” He doubted Jax had relaxed all day. He'd had a gun pointed to his head and a couple threats on his life from a few different people; only one of which he has a small chance of talking down from actually following through.

They need to figure out where they’re gonna put Jax. Maybe somewhere near Theo or himself so they can keep an eye on him? He'd have to get a second opinion on that but at the moment it was looking like the best option.
Man, how had things gotten so complicated so fast? So much had happened in the past few hours that kind of took everyone by surprise. He could feel the wariness in the air and he knew that wouldn't be going away for quite some time. At this point all he could do was get the issue at hand settled and then go and clear his head. He leaned into the room looking around to see if Beth, or anyone, was even in here.

Farmhand Small.pngTrudging back to Taurus, Eli was struck with the sense of being a small fish in a very big pond. The theatrics of the day had demonstrated to him that even though he was the leader's son, his estrangement from his father put him basically at the level of a peasant, a very small cog in the enormous machine that was the political faction he called home. For a long time, his relationship to David had been a way of stroking his own ego even when he knew he was nothing more than a common laborer and he slept with pigs as often as he slept in a bed. Now, he was well aware that he was nothing more than a farmhand playacting as a Scout. But, he had an in. He now knew the Scout leader, after all, so he thought this might have been his ticket out of obscurity - and perhaps, although he would hate to admit it to himself - a way to earn his father's respect, or at least recognition. Besides, the Scouts would give him an opportunity to shake of his stir craziness and get out into the city like he had always wanted to, like he had dreamed about doing since he was a boy.

He returned to his worker's barracks where he was housed and finished up the chores that were required of him for the day. Then he made his way to the seventh floor looking for the security offices. After a lot of haranguing and name-dropping his father, Eli finally found his way to Theo's vantage point. He knocked on the walls as he went, trying not to startle the man unnecessarily, as he was likely holding a loaded gun with the safety off. Eli appeared before him, tired and with streaks of grime from cleaning out the stove. He wiped his face the best he could with a rag he carried on his person. Much like his appearance earlier that day, he was dressed in what would be typical lower class garb: a pair of coarse trousers, duct-taped leather shoes, a tattered grey jacket with forest green and plaid patches covering the holes, and a battered flat cap. This time, of course, he was unburdened by his pack and scavenger equipment.

"Sorry to bother you, Mr. Theodore," he said, sitting with his back against the nearby wall and his knees drawn up towards his torso, "I was wonderin' if maybe you had a place for me in the Scouts."

He didn't look towards Theo, as if he was scared he might be rejected and didn't want to look in his eyes. "I could do small stuff at first, be a cadet or something. Maybe run equipment or carry radios. You know, grunt work." He suggested tentatively.

Watching as everyone left the room, Jay crossed her arms and a stoic look was placed upon her face. She was currently thinking about how things were going to go now that Bex had given the prisoner to the other side. How would they view her, she thought, after her act of "kindness"? Hopefully not as a soft leader that would just be willing to give in to them. But the main thing on her mind was the interaction between Bex and Theo. She's seen their fearless leader lose her temper before, but never the way she lost it today. Of course, she knew the reasoning behind it had to be their relationship. It worried her that she still let him get to her and wanted to start some therapy session to help her or something. Jay was just worried that Bex would go off the handle the next time there was a problem and wanted to protect her -- and the group -- in any way possible.

Jay's thoughts were broken when Mick started speaking to her, inviting her to speak about the events that transpired in the room. She gave a slight chuckle at his words before shaking her head. "Oh, I just love watching people argue over the fate of another human being as if it were a normal occurrence." She returned the eye roll before sticking her hands in her back pockets. Hearing him say booze she perked up a little. "That sounds like the best idea I've heard all day!" She gave him a smirk and tilted her head. "Oh take advantage, huh? We talking body or mind here? Either would be fun, however, I have to be sure." Usually she would refrain from saying such things but today she needed to blow off some steam.

Theo was sat by the large windows in the corner of the security room. Being in such a position meant he had a vantage point from windows at two sides of the building. In his hands, he held the binoculars UP in front of his eyes, keeping watch over the gates from his advantageous position. Within reach was a long ranged sniper rifle, already set up and aimed to fire down, should his scouts need cover from above. He was broken away from his concentration and moment of silent contemplation by the sound of knocking. He turned his head to see the teenager approaching him.

The young man apologised for disturbing him, but Theo shrugged it off. "That's not a problem," he excused him. He realised it was the East leader's son and was interested to hear the young man asking if he had a place for him in the scouts. "Did David send you here?" he curiously asked, choosing to speak on a professional level rather than pointing out the Head was Eli's dad.

Eli seemed unable to look him in the eyes, but he took it as nervousness around the potential of being refused. To make it less awkward, he turned towards the window and gazed outside. He nodded along as the teenager pitched the idea that he could start off small, doing the grunt work. "If--" Theo began, but fell silent as something caught his eye in the distance. He brought the binoculars back up to his eyes and focused near to the gates he'd been watching. He saw a man on the other side, apparently wandering. Maybe he was lost or maybe his presence was to be considered suspicious. "Hold that thought," he told Eli, trying not to be rude as he spoke. He unhooked the radio from his belt and pressed down on the button to speak to the scouts on patrol. "Base to Scouts. Teddy here. We have an unknown man approaching the gates North-East to Taurus HQ... They appear to be one of the living, but I'll keep you covered from above. Over."

He placed the binoculars down on the windowsill and then rounded the sniper rifle and peered through the telescope as he adjusted the aim to remain fixed on the stranger. "Sorry about this," he apologised to Eli, turning to glance to the younger man briefly. "Is being a scout something that you want to do?" he asked, making sure the lad didn't feel pushed into it at all. "What skills do you have that you think will help you do it?" he questioned him.

Alex had been walking quiet peacefully through the trees of Central park, enjoying her alone time away from the bother scouts when her walkie sounded off, Teddy’s voice ringing in her ears as she slowed her walking to a halt. There had been two strangers that happened to stumble upon the Easts territory. That wasn’t normal. At all. No one responded at first and Alex rolled her eyes before unhooking her walkie from her pants and lifting it up to her mouth. ”Don’t worry Teddy, I’ve got this one. Alex over and out.” With that, the blonde stepped forward quickly and broke out into a sprint. She wasn’t too far from the gates on the North East side, and it was clear the other scouts didn’t want to greet the new comer.

It didn’t take her too long to get to the gates. The large chain linked gates stood tall as they came into view, she slowed to a walk, her breathing slightly uneven as she moved to pull her handgun out of its holster at her hip. With her other hand, she grabbed her walkie again. ”Scout to Base. I’ve made it to the gate…” Her eyes scanned the area until her eyes fell on a man in the distance, looking around as if someone was watching him. A small smirk fell on her lips at the irony, she was in fact the one who was watching him. ”Made eyes with the newcomer, moving in now.” Placing her walkie back in its place, she moved towards the large gate and moved to open it.

This grabbed the attention of the newcomer and Alex casually waved at him. ”Don’t worry, I’m not gonna hurt ya.” She informed him lightly as she walked towards him, her combat boots scuffing against the ground as she walked in a relaxed fashion. ”What are you doing all the way out here?” She asked, curious to know where he had come from. Not wanting to get too familiar with the man, she held her gun at her side tapping her index finger against the side of the barrel, subtly hinting that she still could become a threat if needed. Clearly it was just for show, Alex hadn’t ever used a gun on a human, live or undead. The baby of the scouts, Alex joined the team after much debate. Clumsy and innocent, it seemed like the girl wouldn’t do well along with the others who were far more experienced than she. But she was holding her own and no one could deny that. Living her walkie again, she spoke. ”Teddy, what do you want me to do with him?”

Farmhand Small.pngEli moved almost immediately to answer Theo on the count of whether he was there on orders from his father or not. But Theo butted in, and he let him finish. He followed his eyes when he was said to have spotted something, and sure enough there was a man down on the street that he couldn't identify from that angle and in the light conditions. Nobody was really supposed to be out at that hour, but it could have been a farmer or builder coming in late from one of the work projects farther out. Theo was momentarily alarmed, but then calmed enough to start asking him questions, such as why he wanted to be a scout.

"Well, firstly I should clear up that I'm not here because of my father." He said. He wondered just how much he should divulge about his relationship with his father, and in the end he decided to keep everything to himself. "To tell the truth sir, I've always wanted to be a Scout. My father discouraged it, for my safety, and he is right that I take on well with animals. I raise lots of our livestock, and I am very good at my job." He paused, "but, my older brother has been sending me on salvage missions for a good long while, and I've gone out a few times with some scrappers. You know, like Billy Carter," he said, namedropping a man who was particularly famous for having found a veritable treasure trove of pornographic CDs three years ago, which (although starting a minor moral panic in the colony) had netted the salvager enough in trade to let him live in relative luxury for years. "I don't want to be a scrapper though. They're all just in it for themselves, mostly." By this time, conversation had loosened him up to the point where he could look at Theo more casually.

"I guess I just want to help in the best way I can. My brother, he's a real brainiac. Without him, I guess we would forget everything about the Old World. But me? I have a strong back, I know my way around a gun, and I can navigate the city. Might as well put myself to use for the colony than just for myself."

David and Solomon Cartwright
The Spiritualist.jpg"Was all that today quite necessary?" Solomon groaned in bitter annoyance, pacing back and forth in front of his father as the older man sat reading and smoking his pipe. "She certainly seemed to skittish to have noticed, but I was confident that you were sizing Elizabeth up for my wife! Have you no shame?"

"I assure you, quite necessary. For the love of God, Solomon, remember your place. You are my son and you carry on like a common member of the rabble." His father glared at him imperiously from behind thick glasses.

"I am a member of the rabble, father, and so are you! So is everyone!" Solomon shouted back in annoyance. "I think you forget sometimes that this is not a military dictatorship. You were elected, in a roundabout way, but elected nonetheless. The sooner you forget this power fantasy and leave it behind you the sooner your sanity will return to you."

His father scoffed, "You don't understand, Solomon. I made this colony with my own two hands. I am the single reason why every living, breathing soul in this building is in here and not out there," he said, gesturing out the window and towards the lands populated by the undead. "My defenses, my planning, my systems have kept this building in livable order and my political acumen is what has kept us out of armed conflict with the lunatics in the West."

"Is that what you call this, father? Sitting up here smoking yourself into an early grave and reading your reports is "political acumen." What a fool you are!"

"Fine then, if I am a fool, then take my place," David barked back, this time deadly serious. Solomon approached the table, and sat down across from him. After a few moments of calmly collecting his thoughts, he spoke in reply, "Why do you insist on this, father?" Solomon peered into his eyes for a long time. David, at first, met his gaze, but after a while he averted his eyes and shrank back some. Solomon's piercing eyes could find the interior of seemingly every human heart, his father's was not an exception.

"I know you're scared," he said after a while, "that when you die there will be nothing left to attest to you. To stand in memorial of your achievements. And, I know that scares you, because you want people to honor and remember you. Otherwise, you think, what is the point to living? To crawl about on the earth for a bit, to die, and to fade back into obscurity. That's what you're afraid of."

David swallowed, and sat back in his chair uncomfortably. His appetite for his pipe was sated, and he let it lie down on an ashtray.

"The thing that will attest you, father, is these people. You are right: your machines, and your genius, has kept them alive. If they continue to live years afterwards, each and every one of them will be a testament to your mercy, and your love, even if they don't remember your name, or who you were, or how you lived. You don't have to turn Taurus into a monarchy or an imperial cult for recognition. Just, rest easy that you did your people some service - and die proud."

David looked down at the table for a good, long while not saying anything. Then he inhaled loudly and smiled a bit. "I'm sorry, Solomon, you're... You're probably right."

Solomon reciprocated his father's small, tight grin. "The people of the East love you, father. They appreciate what you've done for them. Don't make them hate you." A short pause. "If you take what I have said to heart, and go on to govern with love and benevolence, I will take what you have said into consideration. And, if it will make your heart at ease, father, when you die I will throw my name into the ring for your position, again - not for my sake, but for the sake of these people who must be governed as children, and not as subjects."

David nodded slowly. "You've always been a good son to me, Solomon."

"Ah, and yet there is another who has always been a faithful son to you, yet you do not hear him."

The old man was quiet again, then nodded. Solomon stood up to leave, and David rose to intercept him. Hector, who had stood by idly for the whole conversation, opened the door and offered the younger man his coat. David briefly embraced Solomon in a hug that contained more tenderness than either men had experienced in a long time, that is, the love that comes with honesty.

"Solomon," mumbled the old man, "forgive me. I was coarse today, but do consider what I said?"

"The bit about grandchildren?"

David nodded, causing both of the men to chuckle lightly. "We'll see, father. But, I have important duties. The Archives need constant attention, especially with the unpredictable power supply here." And, truth be told, Solomon felt that to ask a woman into his bed would be to ask her to share his sickness; night terrors, loneliness, and the ever-pervasive dread that he felt, that he imagined was like the eyes of the divine burning holes into the back of his skull. In short, he saw himself as a locus of both corruption and divinity, and he could never expect anyone to understand, much less relate.

With the last of their pleasantries exchanged, Solomon put on his coat to go into the stairwell and down to the market to eat dinner. "Remember," he said in parting, "Elijah is your son as certainly as I am - and he loves you, even if you don't want him to." With that, the empath disappeared into the darkening hallway, and the room was silent. David, gathering himself from an emotionally-charged conversation, returned to his chair and buried his head in his hands - his mind deep in thought. Hector remained looking down the hall for a moment before closing the door.

Bexley Withers
Bexley angry.gifBex shuffled around for another bottle, her thoughts willing her to drown out any dark demons from bubbling up within her. Now wasn’t the time to wallow in self pity from something that happened years ago. Bex had struggled for years to come to terms with what happened between herself and Theo. They had been best friends long before they were lovers. On top of it all, she had lost their…what kind of a person did something like that?- Bexley huffed out in frustration as she shot up from her bent position. Clearly alcohol wasn’t going to do the trick. Her eyes looked to Matt, who seemed just as flustered as she. The woman held his eye contact for a long moment before looking down and shaking her head. ”You look a bit plastered my friend. You can head home if you want, or stay here…I’m headed out to relieve the scouts for a bit.”

Although the leader sounded very confident in her words, she had a hard time moving out from behind the bar, her quick movements causing her to lean from one side to the other. She tried not to think any further about things as she moved towards the exit. Waving to Nik and Matt as she moved to grab her walkie from her coat pocket. ”This is Lone Ranger to Scouts. Moving out towards the closest location towards the wall, the two scouts at standby please prepare to head on out. You are relieved for the rest of the evening. Be there in 10 minutes.” She headed to grab a rifle from the weapons quarters before heading out.

***

Bexley arrived at the wall fairly quickly, having walked quicker than she thought she could under such a state. The scouts before her seemed hesitant in letting their leader be alone while drunk but she shooed them away without any arguments and they headed back to rest for the rest of the day/evening. The Western Leader moved towards the biggest tree near the wall, staring up at it as she strapped her rifle to her back. The tree swayed softly in the breeze and the woman couldn’t tell if it was from the alcohol or not. Regardless, the woman grabbed the lowest branch and began to pull herself up. The familiar texture of the wood brought her back to a much simpler time but before her brain could pull into a painful memory, she squeezed her eyes shut and took a deep breath. Once she was sure she was in the clear, the woman climbed up higher, perching herself on the third highest branch and taking a seat.

Although she didn’t have the highest vantage point, it was sufficient enough and worked for her. Every time she was on patrol, she would take the spot closest to the wall and no where else…in hopes that someday, she would find Atticus. Unstrapping her rifle from her back, she began to make herself comfortable, leaning her back against the trunk of the tree before stretching her legs out on the branch.

Beth had spent some time with David and Solomon as the East's leader discussed with her the possibility of growing plants which could be used to produce aspirin. She was sure she could do that and so agreed the plants could be brought to her once sufficiently grown by the agricultural crew. She was an introverted young woman and especially so when in the presence of her superiors. So when David had been sizing her up for Solomon, she had been quite oblivious to his intention. Of course, something seemed "off" but she put it down to being in her own nervous mind.

Beth had soon returned to the medical bay and into the storeroom to put away the new stock that had been left for her whilst she was away. She soon heard footsteps and voices coming from the main area of the medical bay, prompting her to set the boxes aside and leave the storeroom to investigate. When she emerged into the main area, she saw another another of her superiors, Godfrey, and a man she didn't recognise at all. "Is everything okay?" she softly asked Godfrey. She folded her arms as she looked at Jax for a short time. She didn't see any immediate wounds or bloodstains on either of them, so that was a good sign, at least. "Sorry, I don't think we've met," she told Jax, wishing to excuse herself for not remembering him if she should have.

He didn't bother arguing with her. She was capable enough, even drunk. And it wouldnt do them good to have both main authority figures killed by a drunken trigger finger. He muttered a goodbye as she left, returning the wave with his own before leaving the bottle as well as Nik with a wave, standing to head back towards "home". He managed to avoid any questions, thankfully. Still, the walk back was slower than usual, as he was trying not to seem drunk, and not trip over his own two feet.

By the time he reached his sleeping area, he was ready to drop dead. It was unclear to himself why at that moment, but he had a feeling of dread nagging the back of his mind. A warning of sorts for when he'd wake up. He didn't pay the thought too much mind, getting comfortable enough to sleep some. The alcohol had helped with his headache, but not entirely, as it was a majority of stress causing the discomfort. Still, he'd just need to numb himself to it. Eventually they'd stop feeling so uncomfortable right? Probably. He never learned biology.

Even so, it wasn't long before he fell asleep, glasses still pressed on his face.

Nik Kept up with Bex for shots before heading off as she did. Being around for the length of time he was, Nik learnt to read her moods and when to back off. Despite being off shift, Nik still made his way to one of the outposts. One of the few areas that had greenery. Walking gave him time to think how things were panning out. Despite being a tad on the violent side Nik just wanted calm, and only one person he knew could bring some semblance of that calm. The note had been simple Meet at our spot.

Climbing through the derelict building, Nik sat on a bench that had been placed there and looked out. The buildings location and natural makeup meant that privacy was assured. It was nearly time for him to arrive....

Jax followed Godfrey through Taurus and was impressed with what he saw so far. His brother had made it out to seem like the people on the other side of the wall were disorganized, filthy, uncivilized. But it was refreshing and to be honest, a bit relieving that this place turned out to be different. They walked to the medical quarters and Godfrey gestured Jax to step inside. The man hesitated slightly, always proceeding into a room with caution. He poked his head in first before giving the room a quick look around. Once he was sure it was safe and not a trap, Jax stepped through with a cocky smile on his face.

”Nice digs.” He commented as he took in the whole space, appreciating the medical equipment that they had available to them. Jax ignored Godfrey at first, doing his own thing and walking around the room, looking closely at everything. It was nice to have some freedom after that whole fiasco between the two factions, his life was on the line and now he was safe…for now.

Footsteps could be heard and Jax quickly shuffled around to see who was coming, at the sight of a woman he relaxed a bit but still kept his guard up the best he could with handcuffs, the women on this side of the wall didn’t know what obedience was…clearly. The woman looked to Jax and the man once agains smirked cockily, ”Like what you see? Maybe we get me out of these,” He wiggled his hands to show his cuffs, ”And get you in them.”

”Don’t worry babe, I’m a newbie around here.” He told her, now placing a charming hand on his face as he reached out both of his cuff hands to shake Beth’s hand, ”Names Jaxton, sweetheart. But you can call me Jax. So for this examination, do I need to show the goods?”

A thought appeared to his mind. He remembered being taken into the city for the first time after years of staying in the countryside. The atmosphere was more concentrated than he thought. The sheer number of people literally overwhelmed him at the time. So many beautiful people in the city. He snapped back to reality before he was confused for being undead. He looked at the museum one last time and made a mental note to visit it sometime.

He looked behind and saw a feminine figure waving at him. At last. Human interaction. Or certain death. Whichever it was as long as it was a woman, he was happy staring at some...stuff...before he dies. He made sure he was clam and collected before approaching the stranger. He made a few steps towards them and stopped after a few steps. He managed to get a glimpse at the stranger. Well she was beautiful there was no doubt about that.

"Do you actually mean those words? Not going to hurt me? I am very unequipped for combat so it will be best to stay true to your words." His body was shaking for an unknown reason and he did not like that feeling. She looked friendly and if she was this well equipped, she had to come from somewhere. Somewhere maybe that has a leader and can be able to negotiate with him/her for a place to stay in exchange for his services.

"I was making my way to..well somewhere not my home since it was overrun by those dead things. I am looking for someplace where I can try to rebuild my farm. Somewhere safe. Somewhere I can call home. I have some seeds in my bag." He slowly put his bagpack down and pulled out a small bag filled with seeds for carrots. He threw it towards the woman hoping she won't run away with them. "I am a farmer by trade and I am looking for a place to settle. Do you know of such a place?" He pocketed his right arm which was shaking a lot.

Alex stopped a few feet away from the mysterious man and when he asked if she meant that she wouldn’t hurt him, she slowly took her hand off her hand gun and placed both of her hands in the air. ”Well that wouldn’t be a very fair fight then hmm?” She asked, a slow smile forming on her face as she nodded her head. It was unusual for someone to admit that they were unequipped in combat, especially during times like these where anyone and anything could attack you. As much as she wanted to explain that she was pretty useless when it came to fighting as well, she kept it to herself. Teddy’s voice was nagging her, reminding her that his teachings went against doing something like that.

When explained that he was looking for a place to stay, Alex dropped her hands and nodded her head slowly, understanding what it was like to be lost and looking for a home. The man moved towards his bag and Alex quickly placed her hand on her gun, unsure of what the man was trying to pull. Not making a move to pull it out, she watched as the man explained that he had seeds. The man tossed it towards her and it dropped lightly at her feet in the tall unkept grass.

The blonde watched Robert closely, wondering if she should reach for the seeds before doing so keeping her head up, watching the man still. Feeling the small bag, she picked it up and held it up in front of her face, looking at the tiny seeds inside. They could always use more farmers. ”Well, our faction specializes in crops…we could always use a hand with them.” Of course this wasn’t her desicon to make, she would have to take this man back to Theo who would then have to take him to either Godfrey or David for questioning.

”I’m not the one in charge unfortunately, I’m just a scout…but I could take you back to the faction if my boss allows me to.” With this, she tossed the small bag back to Robert, noting the shaking in his arm. ”Are you alright? Would you like some water? Or bread? I have some in my bag.” She turned to reach for the small bag that was secured to her back, reaching for her flask and small baggie of fresh bread she had. After reaching for it, she picked up her walkie again. ”Alex to Teddy, I have the man who says he’s looking for a place to settle down. He’s got seeds…a farmer.”

It was made clear the newcomer was there for an examination and Beth was about to ask Godfrey if the handcuffs around Jax's wrists were necessary. The way the cocky stranger spoke caused Beth to stop any words from leaving her mouth, deciding she was no longer compelled to asked for the man to be unrestrained. Perhaps he was a danger to the East anyway, so the cuffs were there for good reason. She quirked her eyebrow at Jax and gave off a deadpan kind of expression when she acknowledged him asking if she liked what she saw, then suggesting swapping the cuffs. "I can hardly do my job with those things on my wrists, can I?" she quietly asked him.

The man introduced himself and then made a crude comment about her seeing the goods, causing her cheeks to redden as she couldn't help be feel embarrassed by hearing such a comment. It was all nothing she hadn't seen before, albeit mostly in a professional and medical sense. It was purely the context the man's comments had been presented in that made her uncomfortable. She decisively nodded her head and picked herself back up, looking Jax in the eyes. "Yes," she flatly told him and quickly nodded her head. "You're new here and I need to make sure you're not bringing any infections into our home. I need to see the goods too."

When Alex's voice was the one to reply to Theo, he froze as his apprehension briefly clouded his mind. She was already rushing in the direction of the gates before he could form a response. "Alex, be careful. Keep some distance from the guy, in case I need to take a shot from up here. Over," he responded to her directly. He then pressed the button again to communicate to all of the scouts on duty. "I need another scout at the gate with Alex. Immediately. Over." Alex was relatively young and still learning from him. He didn't like the thought of allowing her to walk into a potentially dangerous situation alone. As he focused his vision through the telescope of the sniper rifle, he beckoned Eli closer and pointed to the binoculars he'd already set aside. "Keep your eyes peeled. Make sure this stranger doesn't have any nearby company." They hadn't finished their conversation, but he figured it would at least allow Eli to do some work for him at the same time.

Theo kept his eyes focused on the target and the rifle aimed directly at Robert's head. He didn't like the idea of killing a member of the living, but if it was him or Alex, he wouldn't have reason to hesitate. He listened as Eli answered him and faintly smiled upon hearing the lad's father hadn't sent him. He only wanted scouts who were willing and able to do the job, not there because they felt forced into it. Hearing that David discouraged Eli becoming a scout, Theo frowned slightly but soon picked himself back up. This was about survival and protecting their community, plus the lad was 16 already and that was old enough to be making his own decisions in the world they lived in. What happened between father and son wasn't high on Theo's list of priorities. The man couldn't help but smirk at mention of Billy Carter finding the porn, having heard enough about that guy already.

"Welcome aboard, Eli," he told the teenager. "You'll be shadowing the other scouts for a little while, to get used to the duties and shifts. Your sleeping patterns will no longer be consistent, mind you."

Theo focused on the scene at the gates, glad to see Alex keeping her hand by her gun as she addressed Robert. He wasn't sure how easy she would find putting her threats into action, but that was why it was important for him to stay ready to fire. Alex then spoke through to him again, asking what he wanted her to do with the newcomer. "Keep him there until another scout joins you. Then I want him searched for weapons and escorted to HQ. Over."

Theo watched Alex move her hand away from her gun and openly raised her arms in the air. "What is she doing..." Theo muttered. He was about to radio through to her again and tell her to back away from Robert, but she thankfully placed her hand back to her gun before any harm could be done. When Robert removed something from his bag and threw it towards Alex, Theo shifted uncomfortably, his finger now touching the trigger rather than hovering over it. He was further unnerved when Alex went and picked up whatever it was that had been tossed onto the ground. They would be having private words about all of this later, as he wanted to remind her about keeping focused and not putting herself into a vulnerable position.

Alex then radioed through to Theo again and explained the man was a farmer looking for a place to settle down. "Backup is on its way to assist you with accompanying the man to HQ. Stay there and keep yourself protected until then. Over."

Bexley Withers
Bexley Saloon gif .gif”Fucking stupid thing!!” Bexley hollered at the large target that was farther away from her, over the wall between her and the other targets in the Saloon. Aaron let out a loud laugh as he grabbed the bottle of Jack before taking a large swig. ”You are losing your touch, kid. And with a simple hand gun like that, tsk tsk.” The man shook his head and Bexley growled at him. ”Bigger. I need something bigger.” She growled out and Aaron barked out another obnoxious laugh, ”Hell yea you do, you know, I’ve been trying to tell you, all you need is some good di-“”Shut the fuck up Aaron!” Bexley hissed before turning her back to him, making her way over to grab another weapon, something that would blow the target away.

Grabbing a machine gun, Aaron whistled, ”Good taste,” He commented to which Bexley smiled with pride. ”This. This is bigger.” She said before walking back over to stand next to Aaron again, the tip of her toes barely touching the white line her father had made with spray paint all those years again. ”Mind pressing the button?” She asked the man and he nodded his head before she took her aim. ”Ready?” Aaron asked and Bexley nodded her head once before the man pressed the red button, turning on the moving targets as they ran towards her, mimicking the terrifying movements of the walkers on the outside. Bexley pulled the trigger, not holding anything back as the bullets made a terrible sound, tearing through the metal as if it was skin. The bullets lodged themselves behind the targets, in the giant thick metal wall. When she was good and ready, the woman released the trigger and the smile on her face was wide enough that it hurt her cheeks. ”Now that’s a weapon.” She hummed to Aaron before practically skipping over to put the weapon back in its place. Dusting off her hands as if they had something on them, Bexley nodded her head and sighed.

”Right, well thanks Aaron but I should get out to meet Matt, he’s surveying the wall and I got to help him cover the rest of it. I’ll catch up with you later at the bar.” With that the woman waved her goodbye and hurried off, taking off into a sprint towards the border. It had been a rough couple of weeks. She had noticed that more walkers were making their way through her territory and she hadn’t been able to locate where they were coming from, as much as she tried. Much like other carnivores, the zombies liked to travel in large groups so it was often very easy to find them and take them out all together. You find one, you normally find the rest of their friends.

They were surveying the wall for any sort of opening. She had yet to discuss this issue with the East, wanting to secure her side and make sure that they weren’t coming from her end before suggesting that they do the same. She hadn’t spoken to anyone on that side since the meeting had ended. Annoyingly enough, her thoughts often returned to Theo and the words…the accusations he dared to make at her. He still couldn’t see how wrong he was, after all those years. At one time, he’d been her everything and now she was just trying hard to forget who he was. When she wasn’t thinking of that man, she was thinking of her son and her father…missing them terribly more now than ever she often entertained the idea that they were somehow together and surviving…truly happy without her in their lives. Everything she touched was poisoned…

The woman had slowed to a walk as she approached the weapons base, wanting to grab something other than a hand gun. Her eyes automatically went to the semi automatic rifle and she grabbed a reload before heading out. Walking the rest of the way, the trip towards the wall would take some time, the border running all the way through central park. Bexley decided to take her time, wanting to survey all of the border while there was some daylight left. The sun was setting slowly under the thick dark clouds that were rolling in, covering the sky in orange and pink.

It had been two whole weeks since Jax had been taken in under the care of the East. Luckily for him, the East was pretty lax in what he was allowed to do around the faction and he didn’t have too many eyes on him all at once all the time. Of course there was still the scouts that had to be taken into consideration, he had yet to figure out how to outsmart them…they were more clever than they appeared.

It was sunset and Jax was currently enjoying some peace and quiet walking a little bit aways from the border, along the vast tree line of central park. The man enjoyed the scenery on this side of the wall as compared to his home, there was a lot more sun and a lot more plants. The snow was pretty occasionally but it tended to become a bit much for him at times, always having to bundle up to get anywhere. The man walked towards the wall, curious to see what it really looked like from this side.

He knew that his brother would most likely disapprove of any sort of distractions that would lead Jax astray from his tasks, but Jaxton liked to see things from a different point of view. Sometimes, you had to enjoy yourself in order to achieve the one goal you set out to do. As he walked, the wall came into view and a small smile formed on his face. Home was just beyond it, and to some degree he was missing it terribly. But there was more freedom on this side, he wasn’t under his brothers iron fist and he wasn’t second to that little brat…Atticus.

Ever since that boy was found, Jaxton had been replaced as his brother’s second in line for the throne. The boy had quickly become a special place inside his brothers heart and there was nothing that Jax could do to stop it. Try as he may, he couldn’t figure out a way to get rid of the boy, he was like an annoying little pest that wouldn’t leave what wasn’t his alone. If it was up to Jax, the boy would be working in the slums with the rest of the human trash, mining for coal to keep the rest of the upperclass warm.

Jaxton had been so focused on his own anger that he hadn’t notice how far he had walked, the wall coming into view now. It towered above him but not in the intimidating way like it did on the Northern side. There were plenty of trees around and near the wall, something he would have to inform his brother about…

Theodore Ashworth

1548371114361.pngSeeing Bex and sitting in a room with her two weeks ago had seemed to bring old wounds back to the forefront of Theo's mind. It was like years of work pushing the memories of their relationship out of his mind had been unravelled in just one meeting. The woman was infuriating and the way she had tried to force them into handing Jax over to the West had frustrated him. He'd refused to let her have her own way and was glad the East won that argument. Still, no matter how angry he was with her for walking away from their relationship and calling him a liar all those years ago, he couldn't stop thinking of the times when he and Bex were still close. He hadn't been able to commit to a woman since. It was like she'd ripped a part of him away and taken it with her when she left him. He hadn't been able to love anyone again.

After checking in on his scouts, Theo decided he needed some air to cool off and hopefully clear his mind. There was a chill outside, so that took care of cooling him off, at least. It seemed like a storm was brewing, but it didn't deter him from his need to walk. Armed with a rifle over his shoulder, a shotgun holstered at his waist and a hunter's knife hooked in his belt behind him, Theo began walking the border. He decided to head towards the wall, checking for any security flaws and potential weaknesses to the East's defences. The scouts usually took care of it, but every so often Theo made a point of overseeing things himself, feeling it was ultimately his responsibility if something went wrong.

Theo had walked for a while and stopped for a moment to admire the forming sunset. He loved nature and whilst the sunset was a beautiful sight, it was beaten by the sight of sunrise which to him symbolised a new day and the success of surviving the previous one. Sunrise gave him more hope. Regardless, he couldn't deny the charm of the setting sun painting the sky orange. He was dragged out of his gaze by the sound of movement nearby. He quickly turned his head to see a familiar figure at the other side of the border.

Theo's eyes lingered on Bex for a time and his instinct was to turn away, to carry on walking. In reality, he was sure she'd seen him too and he didn't want to be seen as running away. He took a step closer to the border and looked directly at his ex. Circumstances had certainly changed since the days they would meet at the border to spend time with each other. Now they were more likely to kill each other. "There's a storm in the air," he called out to her. "Careful you don't get caught in it."

Matthew Williams

"Where is that woman?"

Matthew had been waiting in the upper west side's half of central park for nearly half an hour by his estimate. He'd waited longer a bit closer to the entrance of the upper west-side, but eventually had begun to walk further in as they'd planned to do together. He'd made sure to carry a pistol and ammo, as well as a hefty bat for any emergencies. Especially with the recent influx of walker sightings. It never hurt to be cautious. And while Matt would have preferred having an extra, bigger gun- the bulk would have slowed him down and wouldn't be worth it. It was easier to rely on precise pistol fire and a decent swing to the skull than it was to lug around a shotgun. This wouldn't have been an issue had Bexley actually been on time, but he couldn't exactly do much at the moment but his job.

As he surveyed the area, his eyes fell upon a familiar figure. One he'd actually hoped to spot again at some point. And the guy was alone. Deciding that Bexley wasn't here to kick his ass, and that the figure seemed....not noticeably armed(hidden weaponry was still debatable), he approached. Quietly and calmly, he walked towards the wall where the other stood, not stepping across the "border" agreed upon by the factions. Still close enough to talk without drawing too much attention though.

"Hey. Figured you'd still be locked up in all honesty."

He kept his posture relaxed, though he was ready to draw at a moment's notice the minute there was any aggression.

Bexley Withers
Bexley confused.gifHer thoughts had a way of gripping her to the point of exhaustion and already only a few miles out from base, she felt tired. The woman decided to strap her weapon to the strap on her back, her arms feeling too weak to hold it at the moment. As she walked, she kicked a few rocks into the tall bits of grass, watching as they flew away and out of sight. Hearing a noise, Bex looked around a moment, directing herself to her side first before observing the Easts side from where she stood. Her hand reached for her rifle and she glared closely at the figure walking through the trees. They both stared at each other for a long moment, neither saying a word as they observed each other closely. Bex’s hand hovered on the butt of her rifle as Theo spoke up first.

The brunette looked to the sky as he mentioned the storm that was brewing, the sherbet colored sky was a beautiful sight but there was a sort of stillness and electric feeling that couldn’t be denied. She didn’t answer for a long moment, her initial thoughts were telling her to tell him to shove it. Why did he care that she was careful in the storm, that she didn’t get caught in it. Bexley’s brows furrowed with confusion for a slight moment before she relaxed and nodded her head once. ”Thanks for the advice, weatherman. Are you going to also tell me that its gonna start raining men?” The sarcasm was thick in her voice but there was a softness to her features that normally wasn’t there.

A silence fell between them and Bexley shuffled from foot to foot, feeling slightly uncomfortable now being in his presence without others around. She kept her head up as she tried to keep things strictly professional…it was the times when she cracked that she knew he had won. There was so many questions that she wanted to ask him.. taking a step closer to the border, her hand slowly moved away from the butt of her gun, resting at her side.

”Haven’t had a storm in quite a while…” She commented as causally as she could, though she wasn’t even sure why she was trying to speak causally with the man who had ruined her. ”H-how…?” Her throat felt dry and rough as she tried to get out her question, ”How are things?” She asked, her eyes avoiding to look at him straight on.

This wasn't normal for her, she shouldn’t have even opened her mouth. Bexley hadn’t talked to Theo on a casual level in years…why she was trying to do so now was a complete mystery to her?

Jax Darby
Jax outside .jpgCaught in his thoughts, Jax was just thinking about how useful it could be for him to communicate with his brother over the wall. Though it seemed that the trees were closer on the west side than they were on the east, which would be a definite issue. He was walking closer to the border, as close as he could to observe the trees on the west side. Yes, they were big and long enough to be able to jump onto the wall. The opening on either side of the wall was too far down for Jax to get to without looking suspicious..it would be out in the open but it would be the only thing that could work.

He heard a voice near him and the man snapped his head quickly to look at the man he had seen the other day, what was familiar about him? Jax vaguely remembered that this man had stared at him…right? It was so hard to remember all of the faces around here when he just didn’t care.

The man placed a charming smile on his face and let out a small laugh at the man’s comment. Though his posture was relaxed, Jax couldn’t help but notice the bat within the man’s grasp along with the pistol located at his side. Raising an eyebrow, he wondered how much damage this man could really cause if Jax was to attack him. Hopefully he would be able to find out in the near future…his smile faded into a small smirk.

”I wasn’t expecting to be walking around like this either, but from what I’ve heard…I’m living with a bunch of ‘hippies’. Leader was a nice enough man, strong leader, experienced. I feel like I got the better end of the deal. What do you think?”

He chuckled at the man's remark and shook his head. He was fairly attractive, even more so when he smirked. But those thoughts were quickly forced into the background as he coughed into a hand and prayed to whatever existed that he wasn't blushing.

"That so? Happy to here our expectations of the hippies standards still remain the same. Can't say I'm complaining where I stand though. Grew up in the west. Anywhere's nice enough if you live there I suppose. But what's brought you all the way to the wall? Don't suppose it's the west's hospitality."

As he waited for the man's response, he wondered where Bexley was. Should he radio her? Then again, that could give away her position if she was hiding.....and he didn't need her knowing that he was with Jax at the moment....

Robert managed to relax for a short while. The lady in front of her did not introduce herself. Well neither did he but that was not a priority. So he relaxed for a while. "I guess you are right. It would not be a fair fight." 'Just hope you won't stab a stranger in the back'. His mind was weird sometimes. Always thinking about weird stuff. 'This is not the time or the place Robert. Keep your mind focused.'

Robert watched her as she picked up the seeds hoping to the Lord if he exits in this time that she won't just shoot him there and then and run off with the seeds. It was was left of his precious farm. So many memories. She mentioned that her faction specializes in Agriculture and he let out a very wide smile, " Really? Are you sure? I mean I know our sure but are you??? I mean I would like to help out as much as I possibly can cause wondering around in this deserted world isn't really something I would do for eternity. The seeds may die." He could not contain his excitement.

He literally heard his heart break into pieces when she mentioned that she was not the one in charge. He picked up the bag of seeds and put them back to his bag. "I mean i would love to talk to the man in charge. It will be a great way to know whether he/she is looking for new recruits and whatnot and if he is not, i guess I can try my luck somewhere else. But please lead the way."

I guess his shaking hand was so obvious even a dead man can see. "Don't worry about me. I can't eat or drink if I am so anxious. I will do so once my heart has settled."
