Riko slowly sat up in the clearing, slowly but surely regaining his vision as he got to his feet, stumbling forward and tripping, landing flat on his face in the we grass "GODDAMIT!" he was still a little disoriented from the drop. He took another pause and sat up slowly, surveying the area, the grass was all the way up to his waist in places. It was hard to see anything low down or on the ground...
Chiyo felt a slight tickle on the end of her tidy little nose. Her eyelashes fluttered as her face became irritated with the disturbance to her sleep. A little yawn and Chiyo was sitting upward, completely unaware that she wasn't tucked up comfortably in her queen sized bed with her pretentious satin duck-feather sheets. Realisation was on the horizon as Chiyo's vision cleared. "Ehh..." She rubbed her forehead in confused before realising she was surrounded in grass. "What, where am I?!"
Riko quickly went in the direction of the sound, his hand touched something, the back of her head on the grass. Startled, he jumped backwards and tripped again, landing on his rear in the grass "umm... Who the hell are you?"
Startled, Chiyo whipped her hands around before tidying up the slight bit of unkept hair that the boy had altered. "Who the hell are you?" Chiyo echoed in a harsh tone. "And what is this place?" Chiyo let out a gasp, smacking her slender fingers over her mouth. "Have you kidnapped me?! You seem a little young to be a kidnapper..."
"How can you not see that I'm in the same situation as you..." He looked at her a little scornfully "hmm... Were you even paying attention to the announcer?... This is like a battle royale or something..."
"Probably not, I'm not inclined to focus on anything I don't want to." Chiyo lifted her chin and looked away. Her expression was somewhat disinterested. "So where is the way out?" Chiyo paused. Her brain started to function the general situation and she whipped her head round to face the boy. "Wait, battle royale? A fight to the death? I can't even squish a bug, never mind murder a person!" Chiyo began to ramble ridiculously, in an over dramatised manner. "How are we going to get out? Is this even legal? I have such important exams soon!"
"Really, there's a few dozen people out for your head and you're worried about exams... Lemme guess, spoiled rich brat? Super popular and condescending to people she doesn't think are as good as her?" He sighs, sitting down in the grass with a look if despair in his eyes "... You're my teammate.,. Ugh... This is gonna be one hell of a problem..."
Chiyo opened her mouth but could only let out a slight gasp. She tried again but just ran her fingers through her orange mane instead. The soft touch of her curls soothed her from strangling the rude boy. "Who knows, perhaps you're more of a liability to me." She mumbled under her breath. The grass felt slightly damp to Chiyo. Either that or her uncomfortable paranoia started to kick in.
"I'll keep my doubts about me being the liability" he stood up and offered her his hand, fully prepared for rejection by the inconsiderate brat before him. "So... You're not gonna kill anyone?..."
Chiyo looked at the boys hand. She saw a bit of mud rubbed on his palm and tried to fight back her irritating back brain thoughts. Eventually she decided not to take his hand and hoisted herself up. He was taller than her, a slightly rugged teenage boy. Somewhat cute in a silly boyish way however not what Chiyo was used to being around. "Do I have to kill people? I'm not a threat, who would try kill me?" Chiyo looked genuinely confused as she placed her hand to her heart. She felt a soft silk feeling on her finger tips and looked down to see the bow fixated on her school dress. Wonderful, how convenient for a survival competition.
'Great... I'm gonna have to play the -I will protect you card- to keep her sane or something...' He smiles, a little displeased she refused to take his hand. "They want to kill you because it means they might live, humans are pathetic when there cornered, lashing out to protect themselves; not caring about who they hurt along there way" he sighs, cleaning the mud on his hand by wiping it on his pants, then he places his hand on her shoulder and makes direct eye contact. "If you don't want to kill, I'll kill for you, anyone, anywhere, anytime, I will make sure you don't come to harm by the hands of another"... I can't believe I'm saying this...
Chiyo snorted slightly. "I'm sorry, lovely. I don't need a mans help I perfectly fine looking after myself. I appreciate the offer, however as an independent female I choose to politely decline it." Sometimes it was almost impossible that such words could come from such an innocent mouth. Chiyo smiled a false smile at the boy before gazing at the mud he wiped on his pants. She stifled her need to let him know about it, deciding it was best to allow the boy to have time to let her decline sink in. "Now, I am rather hungry, where do you think they keep the food for us to eat?" Chiyo looked at the boy with a clueless expression. Her eyes were large and a soft orange, the eyes of a girl who actually looked sweet and normal.
"If you weren't so cute, I'd have probably left a long time ago... Look, supply drops will come in a few hours, basic provisions, food, medical supplies and clothing... Though don't expect anything special..." He took a quick moment of silent then sighed "there's rations in your bag pack, it should be around in the grass somewhere, I've already got mine." He shifted his shoulder to stop the single-strap knapsack from falling off.
Chiyo stared her backpack. "Rations? We have a limited supply? Oh, oh good lord I don't know how I'm going to deal with that!" Her voice was a squeak, a typical feminine whine. Chiyo rummaged through the back. "There is no wipes?" Her tone of voice suggested that she thought it was almost a necessity have a pack of fresh wipes. "My name is Chiyo by the way."
"... The names Riko, you'll be my partner for now, and even though I know you don't seem to care about what I say, I'll look after you. oh, and nice to meet you Chiyo"
"You too, Riko." Chiyo mumbled under her breath. "What new clothes will we get? Surely something more practical?" Chiyo groaned as she pulled up her thigh high school sucks and gently patted down her skirt. Chiyo began to feel frightened but did a good job at keep her pride ridden chin raised expression instead.
"Almost certainly practical... But certainly not fashionable..." He blushed a little as he looked at her, turning his face down to hide his expressions. Though she was still a snobby rich girl in his mind, he couldn't deny she was attractive, flawless in fact in a lot of ways. He looked at his black blazer and thin white shirt underneath, the red tie hung crookedly on his neck, his black pants slightly stained with mud 'I look a complete mess' he thought to himself. "Okay... Where should we be headed? I think it's best we stay in the forest..."
"Okay. Let me get this straight. We have to wear ugly clothes, eat scraps of rubbish food, sleep with no shelter and be frightened for our lives for what? A television show?!" Chiyo gasped with frustration. "But why me?! I bet my Daddy is so worried about me. And my exams! What about my friends?" Chiyo started to have another ramble as she walked in circles, her hands clutch to her head. A tear rolled down her cheek as her agitation got worse. "Eurgh, Riko I am so weak I can't do this! And yourself! You're just a school boy? We won't survive!" Chiyo began crying. It was a slightly irritating cry a bit like the crocodile years of a young child, over dramatic and a bit ridiculous.
"Ugh... I can't believe I was paired with a foolish girl like you... Schoolboy, schoolgirl, everyone in this royale is one of those... Learn to deal with it" he paused for a moment, noticing her tears, he moved forward and grabbed her shoulder with his left hand and wiping the tears off her cheek with his right. "Shh, I know you don't trust me, but it'll be okay, I assure you. I promise you okay, I'll have you home in no time!"
Chiyo sniffed slightly, her eyes glistening with crystal wet tears. "I'm sorry I should regain my composure. I suppose we should start preparing ourselves." Chiyo turned from Riko, feeling slightly embarrassed by his touch. She had never been near a boy with another woman with her, let alone a boy who wasn't a snobbish uptight ladies man.
He quickly cleared a little distance, softly muttering "cute" to himself. He quickly returned to normal, starting to straighten his tie "to be honest, I think we should look around, making sure to keep in places with less foliage so we can scan the sky for supply drops..." He seems to have already analysed the situation and showed a calm demeanour.
"Okay, boss." Chiyo chuckled slightly. Her mood was the polar opposite of wanting to laugh, but she wasn't used to feeling so scared that she could help but try and fight it. Chiyo looked at Riko, watching is pale brown hair sit awkwardly on his head, unkempt, messy. She didn't want to brush it, however. It looked right. "Let's go shall we?" her voice was a slight whine as she switched back to her demanding impatient mood.
"Sure, just give me a second" he looked up, taking in the position of the sun as it fell "okay, we're in the west of this dome" he points off in a direction "that way is the center" he points in the opposite direction "so that way is the wall of the dome, I think we should head to the side if the dome, moving into the middle means we're almost certainly going to be McJob closer to the other teams, that happening would be foolish"
"I'm not quite ready to die yet." Chiyo sighed and started walking ahead. She stepped delicately, the bristles of the grass irritated her. Thoughts of family and her studies washed through her head, aching her heart. Am I being punished? She pondered over this thought, wondering what she had done to upset the gods. She knew she was quite rude and sometimes greedy, but her self confidence and upbringing had just lead her to believe she was deserving of every jewel and every dress she had ever recieved. She was apple of the average girls eye and the opposite of the awkward geek girl. She was the outgoing beauty queen who embraced her femininity. But perhaps it wasn't doing her any favours.
