Why Have Inactive RP Side-Threads in an Active RP?

In one of my active RPs the character thread and OOC thread as been declared inactive, but the actual RP thread is still running. I get that those two threads aren't usually used all that often (and the RP in particular isn't accepting new people). But I've been told by one of my RPers that he can't edit his character bio with it marked inactive. Now I don't know if those added threads in the main RP one bogs down anything or how easy it would be to program, but I think it could be better if once the actual RP thread goes inactive than the whole thing is locked down. That way RPers can gradually add more stuff to the bio as things continue (if the GM wants that kind of thing) and the OOC thread could be better utilized for questions and plot discussions as the RP continues.

We are working on a way to notify the author that a thread is nearing inactivity. We are also looking to integrate a way for the author to click one button to reset the timer.
