Realistic or Modern Who Shall Inherit?

The Meek shall inherit the Earth;

But who shall inherit my Worth?

Micha Emerson Longmire.  Who the Hell is he?  Well whoever he is, you are apparently on of the possible heirs to this old buzzard.  Make that a very, very RICH damned buzzard.  Multi billionaire rich.  But noone knows who he is, where he came from, who his family is.  None of you has ever met the man.  None of you can trace how you are even an heir - correction … potential heir.  Neither has he been photographed by news or paparazzi.  He is more reclusive that Howard Hughes ever was.  He is more eccentric that Willy Wonka.

The letter came by special delivery - hand delivered, signature by the possible heir required, not parent, not legal guardian.  But the inheritance comes with a condition.  The heirs must come to live on the Longmire Estate until whom shall receive the inheritance has been determined.

The heirs are all kids, ranging from 11 to 16 years of age when they were contacted.  (They may have turned 17 as a one month notice was sent out.  Travel arrangements began after two weeks.)  You may fly or sail.  You may come from many different origins - rich or poor.  You may be in foster care or live with a family (but you would have to be the oldest sibling not over 16 years of age).

Cool deal.  For the moment I closed it off.  No interest for over a week.  But if we get some people together, I'll open it up and just tag everyone at once.  I debated whether to adjust the age range to 18-24 ... ie young adults.  Might make more sense.

Hmm ... @Oliver can you handle running an adult companion? (parent, older sibling, nanny ...)  That character doesn't have to be detailed.  The reason for keeping to an age group is that there may be backstabbing.  Not very fair to have a 12 year old be a victim of a 24 year old trying to arrange for their death and making it look like an accident....  Not saying anyone here would do that ... but if you ever watched any gothic movies about being a potential heir.  Heh, some people are just plain greedy.

Okay .. made a decision.  Reopened the RP.

I edited the date to June 2029.  Little bit of sci fi is possible.  (I considered 2039, but the changes were a little too much.)

I edited the age range to 11 to 20.  There are some very interesting laws regarding foster kids I didn't think of.  They can't even travel out of their state without permission of their regional office on a daily basis.  So the only way around that is to remove them from their old foster family and make them a ward of Longmire.  (Sort of like Dick Grayson to Bruce Wayne.)  If needed Longmire will use money to handle the greedier foster parents (especially if abuse is suspected but unproven).

Bump ... if folks want to actually RP, need to follow the link above and create a character.

Guys, don't forget to Follow the Main and OOC threads.  I am willing to get started with three of you.  I'd prefer a couple more.  Hint:  try to make characters that can reasonably interact with Staff and other characters or you will find noone responding to you.  So many good characters never get used because they are written so they can't.  Being antisocial is a poor choice for an RP.  It might work in a tabletop face to face rpg.  Doesn't work so well when everyone else is looking at a screen and waiting for something to respond to.

Your character will NEVER inherit if they can't interact reasonably well.  Longmire had specific expectation minimums.

And, of course, if you never make a character, it's kinda hard to post.

bump ...

Getting this RP started very soon.  But still open for more characters.

Just stumbled upon this rp and is very interested. However, I do have a few questions (excuse me if they come off as dumb).

First, how does his line of succession work? Are Longmire's heirs and heiresses his grandchildren? Great grand children? Wait... are there any heiresses? Did he frolic about impregnating a bunch of women? LOL. Is that the mystery (and point that I'm missing) of it? That no one knows how they're related to his guy?

Also, why is there an age range? Are none of the heirs and heiresses above the age of 20? I feel like I'm missing something (probably because it's currently pretty late and I'm sleep deprived).

Finally, I'm new to the site (just joined a few hours ago). Will that somehow prevent me from being able to RP here?

Follow the link to the Full Overview and RP in the first post of this thread.  Things are a bit better explained there.  The reasons have been left a mystery for a reason.  Noone has ever seen Longmire.  Well, that isn't completely true.  He did show up at the UN - in Dr Doom fashion.  One of the members of the group wanted to specify how he was related, but I had to nix that.  Sex is irrelevant.  Longmire is his own nation.  His islands didn't exist 20 years ago.  And the UN only recently acknowledged him as a nation.  He has held off Russia and China on his own.  He is already a presence in space.

Because of his wealth Longmire is going to CHOOSE his heir.  He isn't going to hand over vast billions to some idiot.  The global economy would collapse if he did.  Also ... these are POTENTIAL heirs.  He may just send them home.  He is not bound by laws of normal rights of succession.  He is a dictator.

See #1 above.  The age range is because Longmire set that as limits to observed heirs.  He isn't a citizen of any of your countries.  He was born in America, but left it, having tired of the politics.  His laws are still being formed.

There might be some limits on PMing.  RpN just migrated to this site from old servers and support framework.  The min post count to PM was to prevent spamming.  Also, the default setting on Hosted RP like mine is to require Approval of a Join request.  Also, I do require one have an approved character before posting.  Here I also allow two companion NPC's.  See the Overview about that.

Quite interested in this, fascinating context - should be fun to be apart of.

Bump ... RP has started, but there are mechanics to get new members in.  Link to the RP in in the first post of this thread.
