These are some story ideas I've had buzzing around in my head for awhile. Essentially, which seem like they would make the best roleplays/which ideas are most interesting to you based on these simple descriptions?

The Four Corners

Four friends of dramatically different backgrounds suddenly find themselves in possession of immense, otherworldly power. The only logical step for them now is to take over the world.

Death Carriage

A set of zealous murderers sweep across the country, claiming to be “death incarnate.” But it’s only when they begin resurrecting their victims that people become truly concerned.

While they’re Young

A center for troubled youth wipes the memory of its residents so they can have a fresh start. Some strive to know the truth, while others would do anything to forget.

Liquid Magic

An experimental process for a privately-owned police team allows ordinary people to gain superpowers, but at a steep price. Regardless, you’ve signed up—let’s meet your team and see how bad these “side effects” really are.

The Moral Guardians

An objective system of morality has been established, and keeps civilians divided into classes based on their likelihood of committing crime. Order is maintained by three leaders claiming an omniscient view of all their citizens’ actions, thoughts, and desires.

The latter three might be interesting (indeed, I'm tempted to use the core idea of While They're Young as a sub-plot in a God-Machine Chronicle).

But you'd need far more detail. And possibly to acknowledge your sources (The Moral Guardians is very, very similar to at least three movies, one anime, and half-dozen novels).

What do you mean by this?

I mean that it is important to be aware of your predecessors when it comes to specific narrative ideas. Either so that you can admit 'yes, this was heavily inspired by Minority Report' so people have a clearer picture of what you're trying to do, or watching PSYCHO-PASS to see an interesting new spin that idea, and identify how it is similar to your own, or where it diverges. Not because you shouldn't do something that's already been done, but because you should know it's already been done and try to learn from those existing stories to improve your own rather than recreate them - whether intentionally or in ignorance.

So if you're using a narrative idea that's already been done, you should learn about the previous attempt(s) before going forward?

Thanks guys~

These are all ideas that were originally for me to write full stories out of, so I do know more about the universes than I wrote here; these descriptions are more conceptual in nature.

And I certainly realize some premises have probably been used (most of these ideas I've had written down for ages without giving them an outlet), which is why I figured they might be more fun for an RP rather than a full work of writing--The Moral Guardians in particular, actually.

I just finished watching Psycho-pass! Eheh, now that I'm thinking of it, they are extremely similar. I hadn't even made the connection because I had the idea so long before I watched the show. (' :) ) They're pretty much identical based on the descriptions, in fact--but it wasn't meant to go in the same "dystopian future" direction at all. So I definitely see how knowing about past ideas helps you pick out your story's unique traits.

I think it might be difficult to realize all the sources that connect to these stories though; I wasn't really influenced directly by anything--that is, I never meant to lift ideas/concepts from any source. The whole morality-based dystopia seemed like a given, especially considering how prevalent the genre has been recently (which is why I figured it'd probably been used in a different way before). It's definitely useful to have similarities to past works pointed out to me though!

Oh, I understand - I learned this lesson because I kept coming up with ideas, and then six months later someone would see it and go 'Oh, hey, have you played The Witcher?"

And then it's back to the drawing board to improve on the idea based on this new knowledge.

I read the topics and actually I voted for the last choice. But hey, The Moral Guardians had its potential. I'd like to see the detailed plot for this one. Looks good to execute this for a role play. :)

Grey: Haha, yeah. Not the best feeling, but it's good to realize what's already out there before you put a lot of energy into a project.

Asterio: Thanks for taking the time to give me some feedback~

You're welcome. If you want to role play with me that's ok with me too. :D See you around xD

They all sound like really good ideas. I like While Their Young and Liquid Magic the best. Keep up the good work.
