I am FangS31
For those who just don't like Discord, fair enough. I will say though that I would never join a large roleplay that has one ooc thread. I'm in a large (about 50 players rn?) roleplay here at the moment and having a discord server allows us to do so much more than we could've done on here. Many of us have 100k+ messages in the server. It's not just a space for ooc chatting, but now a community of people united by the roleplay we're all in. We play other games together, we do Brantsteele Hunger Games with our ocs, we share picrews and advertise commissions, we make fun tier lists, we have a QnA section. None of that distracts from the roleplay, as we're almost 2 years running now and still active.
I've joined roleplays before that don't use Discord, and I've never felt the sense of community I feel in the roleplays with Discord. I value getting to know my writing buddies outside of the characters we play, and it feels a lot easier to do that on Discord than flooding a thread with a lot of silly conversation. I'd say on-site ooc would be a lot better in a smaller group that just wants to focus on the roleplay, rather than getting close to the writers.
On the in-character end, I've done roleplays here and exclusively on Discord, and I'd always choose here. The character limits are awful, and I love the personalization you can have here. Discord roleplay has always felt a little awkward to me.
