Where'd the update go..?

Catharsis

Too Far Gone

Okay, so? It feels like most of the new update stuff has like, gone away?

I've noticed that the regular roleplays are now broken up into

OOCC

Main Rp

Characters

But, if I recall correctly, wasn't the main point of the August update to make the site easier to navigate? So why make it harder? What happened to the cool little tabs and host options? Why would you make it harder on hosts by making them create a RP thread, an OC thread, and a OOCC thread? That just seems a little ridiculous to me. It almost seems like hosted projects is the ONLY reason we had to withstand days without roleplaying.

Did I miss some sort of big announcement about all this or?

The site went under a large update in August.  Currently, the tab function is no longer available.  The staff team has been doing their best to find a new alternative.  In the meantime, users may link extra threads such as character applications and OCCs into the main OP of the roleplay.  Here is a very helpful survival guide which may help you understand the site more.

I'll admit there is a good amount of buttons to click, I don't have a problem memorizing navigation, but I do miss the old tab system, it was simple yet effective

No, I know that, but I mean at first (Post-Update) the main roelplays were similiar to how the hosted projects are now. Why would they change that and split it up?

Short answer: People complained and they switched it back. Now Hp's and regular Roleplays are two different things (the latter you need to link manually because tabs are "in the works".)

I could not tell you why, but I can tell why they are different.

The tab system ran on all threads.  Users could have as many tabs as they wanted!  But with hosted projects, the forums eat space on the site's server, which is why there is a limit to the amount that users can create by default.  Additional HP forums must be requested so the staff team can carefully monitor the server's remaining space.  If users were allowed to create an unlimited amount of forums in their hosted projects, the site's server would become overwhelmed, or it would need to be expanded, which would cause the site to become more expensive.

Hosted projects also give users more ways to control their roleplays.  The invitation system is a huge difference.  Users may select the privacy of their hosted projects and select which users may join their roleplay.  The tab system lacked this.

Unfortunately, this did cause the old roleplays to become disorganized, which the staff team has acknowledged.  XenForo and Invision Power are two separate softwares.  They each provide unique features to the table.  The tab system on XenForo was incompatible on IP.  If the tab system were kept on IP, it likely would not have functioned very well.  Again, the search for a new tab system is likely underway.  Hopefully, this answers some questions and gives you a clearer vision as to why. ^_^

Thank you! This did help me understand it a little bit more!

More than half the site cause people hate change.

I mean, you can still create a hosted project with all those features. There are just two options depending on preference.

Yeah, true. I just wish there were more under that area that I was interested in

I admire the staffs hard work, but I would prefer tabs come back for normal roleplays

We would too.  Like @Musician said above, we were literally unable to bring tabs with us because of software incompatibility, and we are actively looking for a replacement.

Oh yeah I get that. I'm not really complaining, it's just I wish tabs could be a thing again. I'm still completely down for whatever new thing they come up with.

Also, by tabs I am not referring to what the site had before the update. I mean I wish the whole normal role playing section went back to being similar to how hosted projects is now.. I just don't know what to call it other than tabs. Lol

I believe they call that mini-forums and I don't think they'll move them back as again you have a hosted section that you can use to create those kind of roleplays. As has been mentioned they take up a lot of room and frankly most people don't want all that hassle.

It's actually a good idea to break things up actually. You have to understand that the hosted projects are incredibly complicated and most of the roleplays on this site don't require all the features ( they're like ice cream, nice to have but not necessary ). And for new users or people that are maybe figuring stuff out they're difficult to navigate too.

I mean I don't know if you have actually tried to make a hosted project but it's a lot of things to work through.

And your welcome to make one if you want. I don't really think making three threads is that hard or linking them. It's how 90% of the roleplay forums work that I have been on.

It sort of depends on what you're used to, I think. I'm personally used to having everything in one convinent thread. I now use hosted projects religiously, so I know how it works and I don't think it's all that difficult. I'm not really saying I want everything to be like a hosted project, I'm saying I personally prefer everything together.

And I am saying you can put it all together. Either make a host if you literally want your own mini forum. Or just create by hands the threads you need. It is actually less difficult to hand link stuff than make hosts.

Besides think about it - most roleplays on this site are ( using the old prefixes ) simple or casual. They do not need all the bells and whistles of hosting. They are just there to roleplay and why not just make it easy as possible to get to that point?

If the tabs are gone than the next easy way to do things is by hand.

Plus it's less work on the staff. Remember the old tabs still required the staff to attach any extras. And yes you got the basics but that doesn't mean you used them all.

In this it's all on the user. The staff doesn't have to do anything with most roleplays outside of the hosted projects.
