Fantasy When Olympus Burns

ELIAS SACHETS

Elias' time traveling adventure ended a little later than the others. Her luck wouldn't let go of her even in the past. Elias ended up free falling for half a second before having her shirt snag onto the treetop branches. She flailed for a moment, trying to catch the branch, but with no avail. Looking at her surroundings, Elias came to the conclusion that they were near Mount Olympus.

"U-um... If anyone can hear me, a little help? Please?" She squeaked, petrified of dangling in the air, high above the ground on just a branch.

@AnyoneThere

The Reaper
Before the Reaper even bothered to answer any questions or remarks, they shot the tree branch that Elias was dangling on. "Mana isn't here right now, not even in this time. Of course since she wasn't born in the first place, she was created. It's good that she's gone now, she would have gotten you all killed. They were created by a certain man, a group of individuals with no memory. There was Mana, a pair of energy twins, and a small boy. Timeline #2,348 their memories come back after befriending you and they kill you all from the inside out. If that little girl were still here I'd put a bullet in her head myself."

The Reaper shakes their head towards Demon. "You're right, you all do need a place to stay but sunlight doesn't matter. Selene needs to get over her phobia as soon as possible. She'll drag you all down and it'll be her downfall. If I had it my way I'd rip that umbrella from her hands right now. Then again, I do have it my way so I'd suggest coping on your own terms Selene." The Reaper watches Finnegan leave and turns to the rest of the group. "If any of you feel the same way you're free to leave. It makes my job much easier. I will clear up one misunderstanding though. I could care less about humanity, they can all die for all I care. My cause isn't for them, it's for you. The only reason why I explained that was because humanity is a thing you all seem to care about, so why not give you a way to save them for your personal pleasantries. One mortal dying for the greater good doesn't matter, you'll learn that soon enough. You also can't tell me that you people who have been trained as assassins to kill gods are sensitive over the fact that you have to kill gods. Once Rhea tells you to kill Python, and everyone else in that base, it's completely fine because they were monsters right? Let me tell you something, if you're so concerned over losing a human life why don't you have the same concern over killing monsters? It could have been an innocent monster just like that innocent human. You can't act righteous, that's a load of bull. You blood on your hands, doesn't matter what species it was from a life is a life. The only thing that makes you think you're not evil by killing a monster is prejudice. Hypocrisy, is what your committing if your upset over killing gods and mortals after you've already taken a life or three yourself." The Reaper specifically looks towards Blue, Fia, Selene, and other people within the group of that nature. "War is hell, nobody is a hero and not a thing is a saint. The only thing you can do in this situation is focus on your own survival. Which is what I'm doing for you. Becoming the strongest means they won't dare to start a war under your rule and you'll be strong enough to survive any attack...from even a certain being." Umeko had remained silent. When told back on the docks to go grab things, she hadn't bothered. No amount of preparation would have possibly mattered in the events that followed. Yuki had thrown his shuriken in the water as explained, but it seemed to have made little difference. Now that they were back in time, Umeko felt very sick. She checked the strings of fate - this was bad. They didn't exist, but they did. The ends were unraveling and reweaving themselves. She wanted to throw up. Looking to Yuki, she realized her brother was fine. Lucky. He didn't have a string of fate, nor any connection to fate as it was. He was just walking around, paying little attention to the rest of the group as he observed the other people surrounding them. A wide grin was splayed across his face - he looked ready to run off and start hugging everyone he saw.

Turning back to the group, Umeko briefly caught a glance of the glare the Reaper gave her. What was that for? Did she really hate herself this much in the future? Shaking her head, she stepped forwards. "So now that Finn's left... Elizabeth, will you lead us? Or are you going to be following with Finn?" she asked. With Mason more or less permanently gone at this point, it was safe to assume they had all shifted up the ranks one. Meaning, if the two above her left, Umeko would be alpha. Not that it mattered anymore, but the others would probably think it mattered. After all the Reaper seemed to be stepping up real nicely. If she were alpha, Umeko would more or less just follow the Reaper.

As Selene approached, Fia took a glance at her, "Rabid?" A playful glint flashed across her eyes for a moment, and a grin tugged at her lips, "Rabid's too boring. You don't get to experience any of the fun of the kill."
Demon mentioned training, Fia agreed, giving a slight nod as he finished speaking. When he mentioned Mana, Fia rolled her eyes; the annoying child that insisted that she was some sort of dog had fundamentally annoyed the white-haired girl - the fact she wasn't here gave Fia some sort of joy.
Then Finnegan appeared to be speaking with some sense for a moment, a remarkable improvement from normal, before he stormed off, stating that he quit. That was the Finnegan that Fia was expecting. Umeko spoke up, volunteering Elizabeth as the new leader. Fia eyed her closely before her gaze rested on Elizabeth, "If the rankings matter, then you should lead us. Shelter or at least somewhere we can call a home-base should be our top priority." She paused, "When you make a decision, give me a shout."
Fia glanced at Selene, dropping her voice to basically a whisper, "I'm going to change. Can you come and pick up my clothes once I'm done?"

Demon watched Finn an walk away. The first emotion he felt was disgust. We're trained to be assassin's not little bitchs who run when it doesn't go their way. This group doesn't seem to get that. He looked to the Reaper. "We don't have Rhea or Gaea. Our leader is gone and our rank system is bullshit. The next in line would be Elizabeth but I'd trust Fia more. This group is on its last legs. And the others probably don't trust you enough." Demon ignored Elias. "I hate these people but it's all there is and you are the only one who knows anything. I'm don't playing cat and mouse if you don't spill some of your secrets I'll walk away and find my own way back." He glare directly at the Reaper. He trusted them but after this fiasco his patience was gone.

Gaige grabbed Elias and put her down. When she heard about Mana she didn't know how to feel she knew something was up but wasn't prepared for it.

"If you Trust Fia more, Demon, then why not follow Fia's orders, or go your own way like Finnegan?" She didn't mean to sound snippy. Everyone going at it, so many different ideas and emotions getting tossed around, its no wonder Finnegan resigned. She was highly highly frustrated with him breaking from the pressure, but who could blame him. Elizabeth lowered herself back to the ground. She didn't intend to really make any decisions or have any input, just follow Finnegan's decision. She had to think back on all the information that was given to her and come to a logical decision that benefited them ALL.

"Guys, Let's not bombard Elizabeth with questions right now. Can we at least decide something within ourselves first? I understand you are feeling so many emotions, but consider...," thank you, Kristov. Buy me time to think. The first issues on Elizabeth's mind was the sunlight and its 'effect' on Selene, The Reapers claims, and possible locations of safety.

After everything that's been said, we're in the past! And we have our timeline, before the war! If any of you want to live normal lives before shit hits the fan, please go. But if any of you want revenge, want to save the world, want to at least fulfill the purpose given to us, then lets stand together, united behind Mon-Elizabeth."

Elizabeth smiled meekly. She had come to some decision

"I think we need to be honest... If you guys came back in a scurry from a simple monster invasion, there's no way in hell we can attack Chronus or Hypnos. But our friend here seems quite knowledgeable on our enemy, everyone else-"

"Thank you, Xavier." Elizabeth wasn't one to interrupt but their minds were on the same wavelength. "We are going to ascend and cease this war. To anyone who wants to be free; please go, now. We will fight to give you the peaceful life you crave.
There will be bloodshed. There will be lives lost, both friend and foe. But The Reaper is right about something. Many of us have forgotten that all life is life, regardless of his origin. It is with what that life chooses to do that matters and defines it.

We are going to find shelter. We will plan our attack then. Reaper, do you know where we can take hold? An abandoned fort or cabin in the woods for Fia maybe? And Selene darling, You are safe in the sunlight, I promise. I will never let the sun hurt you again... as long as you wear sunscreen, okay?"
Elizabeth smiled widely at Selene expecting Selene lower the umbrella and embrace the sun, For those not following her and the group to leave, and for the Reaper to figure out a point in current Time-Space that they could occupy.

The Reaper

The Reaper ignored Elizabeth and the others for for now, only focusing on Demon and his demands. They couldn't just let Demon up and walk away, he was precious to them after all. If he needed a bit more trust from them then they'd have to budge on something. "Alright I'll tell everyone here who I am and reveal my form. That should build enough trust between us. "I'm ranked Meta within your group, since I didn't fall at the top or the bottom. You could say I was the worst one of the group and was 25 out of 24. Demon, you taught me how to use a gun, which is why I have a taste for a specific type of gun. I had no powers or skill to begin with but my ability is to absorb skills and divinity from the dead. Which is why I have many powers of different kinds as you could see. The purple crystals were just for show...the way a serial killer does. I'm 17, just like you. I can use most of your powers and I have the divinity of Hekate, Nike, Poseidon, Khione, Styx, Ananke, Hades, Thanatos, Demeter, Persephone, Ladon, Athena, Asclepius, Orthus, Kratos, Atlas, Hephaestus, Polybotes, Phorcys, Keto, Hebe, Hyperion, Themis, Lethe, Pyriphlegethon, Hekatonkheires, Elder Kyklopses, Demon, Umeko, Blue, Selene, and Xavier. Though because I have so many it's been difficult to master even one." The shadows slowly start fading off of the Reaper and their voice begins to shift to their own. "I've repeated this timeloop 6,023 times...watched you all die that many times. Which is why it's crucial that you all trust and listen to me, I'd hate to start all over again. "Coolio now that everyone knows everyone let's just move along and find shelter." He was still processing everything. He had many questions but he doubted a group of 20 something 17 year olds arguing was well protect by the mit's the reaper talked about. "I trust you. But for now we need to move along. I don't like being out in the open like this and we eventually have to go back to our time."

Gaige wanted to make a praise the sun reference but she didn't have it in her.

So. There goes Umeko's theory. So, that wasn't a future her. Umeko's opinion of the Reaper - no, Amyline, immediately soured. How dare she steal her divinity in another timeline? How dare she use the strings of fate? How dare she even attempt to understand what took Umeko selective breeding and years of training to understand? Who did this girl think she was? Despite Amy having superior knowledge, Umeko immediately returned a glare to Amy, only to go back to a neutral face soon after. It was a sour feeling in her heart, her gut, her soul, to have someone who wasn't born of a child of fate to be so much more adept at the craft of fate weaving than one born into the skill. She despised Amy with all of her being now.

    Selene, The Reaper, Everyone Else

    Location

    Mount Olympus

Memories and thoughts were exceptionally easy to remove, but emotions were a bit more complicated it seemed. The more exposure Xavier had to Selene, "Well Finnegan what do you think we're doing? When it comes to everything that's been said by both myself and the erm...stranger. Will you be taking the suggestions of others this time around or will I have to leave to do my own thing once more?" The more he felt... jubilant, almost magnetic. "Selene, do whatever the fuck you want. Because as of now, I want nothing to do with his mess. I quit."
If Finnegan quit then that means.. Xavier left it up to the others to figure out as well. "If... If I must.." Good

Why is this Selene so.. appealing to me? "Guys, Let's not bombard Elizabeth with questions right now..."

Xavier fell quickly into the depths of his mind. He left his body on 'autopilot' while is conscious journeyed his subconscious. There, he didn't need to concentrate so much, he just need to feel and his mind would bring to the surface what he most needed. It was moments like these he was happy he never cleared the junk storage. Faint little flicker memories... her voice, her demands though leader-like charm, silver, the moonlight...

"..then lets stand together, united behind Mon-Elizabeth." Interrupting his thoughts... but well timed, he couldn't remember much else. Xavier too defended Mon-Elizabeth after Demon's remarks regarding not trusting their superiors, calling for unity or secession, but Elizabeth reclaimed the floor, allowing Xavier to recede back into his mind.

"That's very like you" Selene's voice spoke to him. "Push away anything that hurts, Charge into anything that could kill you, I never thought I would be one of the things you forget." "Who are you?" "You don't remember? Everyone else does.." "No. I'm just crazy, Fantasizing like an elementary school boy bitten smitten by the love bug, okay?" "Shhhh... listen to them, hear their memories."

"Alright I'll tell everyone here who I am and reveal my form. That should build enough trust between us. I'm ranked Meta within your group, since I didn't fall at the top or the bottom..." Xavier snapped out of his head and focused on The Reaper. "...Lastly, my name is Amyline Voidra, child of Khaos...your friend from a different time." Besides the fact if anyone that said they were his friend were indeed Xavier's friend, He could feel the truth behind her words, the pain she felt too.
"Well let me be the first to say thank you for deeming me worthy to join you ever-growing mana pool." If she took my divinity and not my fathers... our difference in strength could still be much beyond my comprehension... or I was just easy pickings and whats the point of going for advanced mastery when you can't master one to begin with? I wonder if in any of the other timelines Gaige or whoever modified or enhanced many more weapons for me and at one point I was a threat to my father, This cant be the first timeline I thought of something like this...

Xavier stared at his cane. Inside as its core was the violin bow of imaginative energy made by Gaige using his gun. Xavier's powers are based around his creativity... what if in 6,023 timelines, this is the one that Xavier is least creative, least imaginative, least... powerful. That... frightened him. He wasn't power hungry like that meaning he didn't want to be the most powerful being, just the most powerful that he himself could be. And if out of 6,023 tries, this was all he could think of? A bow capable of making his illusions and imagination real and physical? Congratulations, Charles. You sure deserve to be a god killing assassin, let alone the sole god of dreams. Many people were emotionally turning sour, Xavier could envision their true subconscious desires, it wasn't surprising. Amyline has gone too far. For what? Demon's loyalty? Anyone with eyes and a basic understanding of human interaction could see she cared more for Demon than say, safety and security, a warm meal after sickening time travel, maybe some hot chocolate. Her heart was not her ally when Xavier was around, even less so now that she dropped the mystery and exposed herself. Xavier still had to reflect on one thing... he wasn't creative

Ries
The only thing more surprising to Ries than the reaper's dramatic reveal of her true identity, was her complacence. In truth, she believed Selene was right, and she would have to spend many sleepless nights placing Amyline under constant vigil until she could safely determine whether or not she was truly a threat. She had allayed a great many of those concerns, however, something that Amyline said troubled Ries greatly; a strange inconsistency between her explanation and her actions.
"There is one thing that I must ask before I am able to put my trust in you, Amyline." Ries begins,
"You claim to have stolen the divinities of a great number of gods and goddesses, but there is one that you neglected to mention, one that you confessed that you had no need for..."
With an accusative point, Ries shouts "...If not for her divinity, then why did you, one of Gaia's children, murder Rhea!?"

Light Light

Dante'
After jumping back in time Dante' pretty much kept to himself. Everyone spoke their minds as he set back and listened. Whatever the group decides he'll be up for it. He looks towards Ries, who yet again brought up Rhea. Was she really behind on the information. Did no one truly tell her what happened to Rhea? "I can answer that question for you Ries." Dante' said as he stepped forward. "The Reaper, I mean Amyline didn't kill Rhea. Rhea took her own life, it'll be better off this way. Amyline only wanted to take the blame to keep Rhea's good name." Fia started putting some distance between herself and the group as the argument about leadership began; the ranking system had been their bedrock but it only worked if a majority would respect it. With Finnegan's resignation, and Demon's declaration that he would trust Fia more than Elizabeth, even Fia began to question whether the ranking system was now an accurate way to decide leadership by. She blocked out the rest of the discussion as she started to look for an appropriate place to change forms: away from public viewing for obvious reasons and away from Blue for, what she considered to be, even more obvious reasons.
She walked for maybe a minute or two before she found a spot she was content with - no regular humans, a fairly obscure area and she was basically certain that she hadn't been followed. She stripped, hiding her clothes in a nearby bush, and transformed, the process still as painful as ever. Though she made a distinct effort to try and suppress the sounds of the transformation, the occasional yelp, snarl and the final howl of pain couldn't be prevented from escaping her.
Shaking off her fur, Fia started heading back towards the group when a thought crossed her mind. She changed direction, breaking into a run, tracking Finnegan. It wasn't too long before she caught up to him.
"You know, Finnegan," she intoned, projecting her voice into his head, "Just because you've stepped down from your position of leadership doesn't mean you have to leave the group." She slowly approached, prowling after him, "Indulge me for a few moments, please. You were part of my family for basically a third of my life, at least give me a proper reason as to why you're leaving us."

FINNEGAN BROWN

This was it. Finnegan was walking away from the all responsibility of leading the demigods- possibly into a war. Their timeline and agenda may have changed, but he doubted that their means to ends would be any different from before. Kill, kill, and kill again until finally nothing was left but peace. Peace, what did that word mean anyway? It didn't matter anymore, he didn't have to constantly worry about their next move, keep protecting them, or bother about settling disputes. Finnegan was finally free.

... But in his heart, he knew he wasn't. Even if he walked away, he knew he'd worry about his comrades. That was one guilt that wouldn't ever leave him. Regrettably.

He walked through the crowd in silence with no destination in mind as he wondered what would be next for him. He didn't have any money from this time- but that wouldn't really be much of an issue for the son of Hades. Where would he go... No, where could he go? He could go anywhere he wanted, do anything he wished. He'd have to sit and plan it out, he thought.

"You know, Finnegan. Just because you've stepped down from your position of leadership doesn't mean you have to leave the group." A voice penetrated through his mind, and he didn't have to look back to know who it was. He cast a glance around himself. No one seemed to notice the wolf beside him. Instead, he assumed they would have seen a regular dog, a golden retriever or a husky perhaps? "Indulge me for a few moments, please. You were part of my family for basically a third of my life, at least give me a proper reason as to why you're leaving us." Fia asked through the mental connection she established.

Family. That was one thing Finnegan could never wrap his mind around. He sighed reluctantly and knelt down on one knee beside her. He knew she disliked being pet, and refrained. Finnegan gazed into Fia's eyes as he thought of a proper answer to her question, regarding her with some warmth- something he rarely expressed with anyone. "It doesn't make a difference who's leading you, you're- we're all pretty much the type to do what seems right, rather than following orders." He ended up saying.

Finnegan hesitated, how could he tell her that he wanted to leave because something didn't feel right? He never trusted Gaia, and he couldn't bring himself to trust the Reaper's intentions. How could he tell her that as their Alpha, he wanted to lead them away from Gaia's plots? He was supposed to be the one who lead them for her. He didn't want to abandon them, but he'd rather not lead them into something even more dangerous. He could've argued- said that this wasn't what he wanted to do. But that would make him selfish wouldn't it? Moreover, he doubted anyone shared his suspicion.

Still, Finnegan knew that Fia deserved some explanation rather than a statement. "Look... I, I can't do this. None of this makes any sense to me anymore. Kill your parents and become the strongest faction so that you can rule over the rest and maintain peace? Even if we do manage to kill them, then what? These are immortals we're dealing with, Fia. There's no dying for them, but the same doesn't hold for us. You think they won't come back and have a war again? It's happened before, it'll happen again. The Titans had their go, then the Olympians. What, we're next in the line to slaughter? It might be the right way to go about it, or maybe not. I can't say. This isn't about 'morals'. Humanity was killed in this very fight and we have a chance at redemption, we might be able to change fate. But... The path that we're currently set on, I don't think it'll end well."

Finnegan paused, he had never explained his opinion to the others before. Why would he? It had never mattered in the past. They were all trained to be like soldiers, to execute what was expected of them. There was nothing at stake but their own lives. "I'm sorry," He whispered, "I trust all your abilities... But I can't lead you to your deaths."

Fia tilted her head as he knelt next to her - she was confused; this was not the response she had anticipated, and quite honestly it made her uncomfortable. There was this sort of annoying warmth in his voice, and it made her feel guilty. His points had merit, unusually for him, and when he finished talking Fia was forced to take a pause to digest everything he'd said.
She found herself taking a step forward, maintaining eye contact with him, "There is no cowardice in stepping down from command. But you're honestly telling me that even though you have the power to act and potentially contribute to saving the future of civilization as we know it, you're going to walk away from it." Fia bared her teeth slightly, "I had some respect for you because you were tenacious, you were committed. You managed to remain our Alpha for 5 years; you led us against Python with basically the same knowledge you have now-..." She stopped, realizing she was audibly growling, on the brink of snarling at him.
"You know what there's no point... I'll just get mad and make a bad decision." She sighed and bowed her head to him and turned away. She glanced back over her shoulder at Finnegan, "There are two paths before you, Finnegan; the one you're heading down will only lead to regret and wondering what might have been."

FINNEGAN BROWN

"There is no cowardice in stepping down from command."
Fia claimed, much to Finnegan's annoyance- had she not heard a word of what he said? "But you're honestly telling me that even though you have the power to act and potentially contribute to saving the future of civilization as we know it, you're going to walk away from it." She said, baring her teeth at him. Finnegan couldn't deny the feeling of eyes watching them, but ignored the on lookers.
"For now, yes." He said, looking back at her.
"I had some respect for you because you were tenacious, you were committed. You managed to remain our Alpha for 5 years; you led us against Python with basically the same knowledge you have now-..." She growled.

Yes, I led you against the Python. But look at how that ended. Finnegan rolled his eyes. He didn't have many doubts with his own ability as the Alpha- he had certainly managed to be the strongest of them and it showed. But there was no use of it when half of what he said was taking in one ear and out through the other. It was like he was dealing with a bunch of unruly teenagers... Oh wait.

He made no attempt to point this out to her, she wouldn't understand. Nor was this the time for a blame game. He stood up as Fia turned away. "There are two paths before you, Finnegan; the one you're heading down will only lead to regret and wondering what might have been." She warned.

He thought about it for a moment. "Yeah, I'm willing to take that chance to find out for myself, thank you very much." He answered. What was the use of him staying if he had only half- if not little heart in the mission? Surely there was a smarter way to end things rather than send a handful of demigods to kill their source, and wage war on the rest. That seemed absurd- if not, impossible for him. Finnegan knew that their training had made them strong, but they were nowhere near strong enough to take on the entirety of the enemy.

Amyline
Glancing at both Dante and Ries, a mental decision was made. It seemed like everyone knew the truth about Rhea anyways so what would be the point of trying to fool just one person. "He's right, I did try to preserve her name but it seems like it was a waste of effort." A portal opens up before Amyline, the other side holding an old manor within a dark swamp. "I do have a place of refuge we can train in. Though I must warn you, this training will be unlike any other. By the end of this training you should be able to achieve divinity form without having to defeat your parents. The price to pay for this power is shedding away your humanity and great pain. If you fail, I can't promise that you'll survive this training. If you follow me through this portal, that means you are ready to achieve this power and follow me through, until the very end." Amyline didn't notice Fia and Selene leaving in the heat of things. Hopefully they'd make it back before she left with the others.

Selene on the other hand was waiting patiently for Fia to return, holding her clothes. She didn't hear what Amyline had to say so if Fia took too long, then they'd get left behind. Fia paused and mentally sighed. She turned to face him, "If this is goodbye then I guess I'd be trying to give you a hug if I was in my human form. But, since I'm not, I will let you pet me, just this once. And if word of this reaches anyone at all I will hunt you down and gorge myself on your entrails." There was a light-heartedness in her thoughts as she projected the last part. She almost reluctantly stepped forward, her irises gently turning from a striking yellow to a crimson red, though there were no outward signs of aggression from her. His quick decision had annoyed her, but she wouldn't act against him at the moment.

FINNEGAN BROWN

"You'd very much like that, wouldn't you," Finnegan muttered wearily as he referred to her threat. In stead of petting her, Finn retrieved what looked like an ornamented canine tooth on a strong string from his coat's pocket and tied it loosely around the wolf's neck. "This won't be the last time that we meet. If you ever find yourself in danger, just graze it in a little blood and bury it under the ground," Finnegan said as he stood up. "If we ever cross paths again in the future, I'll pet you and even offer you some wolf treats," He smirked.

Finnegan saw Selene lurking about in the distance, holding onto what must have been Fia's clothings. "You should probably get going." He said, tossing his head in her direction and shoving his hands into his pockets.

Desmond/Dante'
Desmond stepped up towards the portal and looks within it. "First it was the Astral Plane, and now it's an old mansion. Training just keeps get better and better." He looks over at Amyline. "I hope there aren't any dragons in here, for Dante's sake. He might just wuss out. He doesn't like dragons." He chuckled and stepped through the portal. He was followed by Dante' who spartan kicked him the rest of the way through. "Why you gotta tell my shit huh??" He said as he walked through. Light Light

Ries
The very notion that Rhea would ever take her own life was absurd, in Ries's mind, which made Dante's unsolicited answer to her question all the more staggering.
The Rhea she knew was far too driven to her cause, and far too concerned for the wellbeing of her children to ever leave them in such a way.
But Amyline seemed truthful, and there was no reason Ries could think of for Dante to lie in her defense.
The visions she had seen before; Rhea clutching a knife to her chest, the familiar look of hopeless despair in her eyes suddenly took a much different perspective.
What happened while she was gone?
How much had she missed?

If she had just said something before she left, would Rhea still be here?
Her mind grew heavy with the burden of such thoughts and such questions, and her body grew tired with the burden of her mind, her armor, her shield.

"I...I understand" Ries replied, her shock settling into an emotional numbness.
She looked into the portal's maw with tired eyes that seemed to have aged forward 30 years in 30 seconds.

She never cared for promises of divinity or power, but if it meant protecting her comrades, and if it meant not letting everything Rhea had worked for be for nothing, she would gladly endure any punishment or trial needed to earn it.
She stops to take one last look at Amyline, before she crosses into the portal.

Despite what she had said, she still couldn't quite put her trust in her, but for a moment, Ries did see something familiar in Amyline's eyes; the look of someone who carried a great burden with them, probably greater than Ries could ever know. Perhaps, just a little, it made her trust Amyline a little bit more.
Her mind turned to Finnegan for a moment, she was concerned for his safety, but if she had learned anything in the past year, it was that a little time alone could be exactly what he needed in such trying times.
She offered a short prayer, and then stepped into the portal.
