Mason awoke early in the morning. So early that the sun was still hidden and shadows lurked around the corner. He stretched and climbed out of bed, hopped into the shower and quickly dressed in shorts and a hoodie. For breakfast he had a bagel and cream cheese which he ate while drivin himself to the school.

Coach Sanders was already on the field, waiting for his team to arrive. As usual Mason was the first as he was team captain and it was his responsibility to be on time.

"Mornin' Mason. What do you have in mind for today's workout?" Coach asked and Mason shrugged in response as he took a seat beside him on the bleachers.

Once the rest of the team had arrived they ran, did some drills, and even a little bit of scrimmage. The rest of the students had begun to fill up the parking lot by the time they had finished, their bodies sweaty and tired. "See you at the end of the day boys!" Coach called as they each grabbed their backpacks from the bleachers and rejoined with the other students who were waiting around for the bell to ring, signaling the start of their long day.

Izabella woke up at the break of dawn. Practice was in an hour. She got up and showered then threw on nike running shorts, a shirt, and her crocs. She would later put on her kleets. She drove to school and when she got there went to the track and waited for the rest of the teams. Varsity and JV practiced together and during thr first class period she helped out with the Freshmans.

When everyone arrived they ran a mile, went to the soccer field, ran some drills, played a little scrimmage, fthen she made sure she gave the girls enough time to shower and get all pretty.

Coach Redden told Izzy that she did such a great job and that she needed to ice her ankle down before Freshman got here. She went to the trainers, got some ice, and walked back just as bell rang for first period. Today would be long day.

Mason didn't like school much. He wasn't the most popular on the team, he left most of the conceited comments and joy riding to the jocks, which were usually the quarterbacks and the running backs, only occasionally taking some glory in gloating for himself.

Mason's first period class was Language Arts and Composition, a class he was actually good at. Most of the time he was alert and paid very close attention as he didn't want to have to miss any football practice. Today he was sort of off in his own land, spacing out and going over plays in his mind. Today they had a game and they had to beat them or say goodbye to their championship win.

"Mr. Barker! Hello? Anybody there?" Miss Parker waved her hand in front of Mason's face, trying to get his attention. He immediately shook his head and sat up straight, almost startled from his reverie. "Are you alright Mason? You like kind of out of it." Miss Parker continued.

"Barker's gonna lead us to a win tonight! He's taking us to the Championships." Someone called out from the class causing Mason to smile and nod.

"Ohhh, I see... So you're lost in football, eh? Well, you mine as well do your quick write on football today, I'd love to read your game plan." Miss Parker joked as she turned the classes attention back to the lesson. C'mon Mason, focus. Just a few hours of school and we'll be back on the field. He thought to himself as he began to take notes.

Izzy was out on the field with Couch and all the Freshmans trying to get them ready for there first game against the school rival. She was showing them how to properly dribble the ball around and a few plays that may come in handy. After that she split up the team and had them scrimmage each other. It was a really good scrimmage because the red team only lost by two. Izzy let all of them go and shower to get ready for the day. Izzy showered as well. When she walked out of the locker room when bell rang she was wearing a whole different outfit. She went to her locker, grabbed her books for Chemistry and headed to class. She sat down in the third row by the wall. She waited for class to start. She loved Chemistry, it was really easy for her. She always paid attention to it but she had soccer on her mind at the moment. She really did want the Freshman to win their first game today. She let out a light sigh as her friend Sabrina sat behind her.

"You should really present yourself more. You should get a boyfriend already." Sabrina whispered

"I'm perfectly fine without one. I have way to much on my mind anyways, I wouldn't be able to focus on him if I did." Izzy replied and Sabrina just rolled her eyes. As all the other students came in class begun. Izzy was somewhat focused, but now she was thinking about a boyfriend. Her have a boyfriend? That was just something she never really thought of.

After Language Arts Mason found his seat in Chemistry which wasn't his strongest subject. Since his mind was wandering off it was three times more difficult to focus. He took to tapping his pencil on the desk and restlessly moving his leg as if he were nervous. The teacher droned on in her monotone.

Halfway through the class Mason excused himself to the bathroom but all he wanted to do was run. He had to settle for walking around campus a bit and when he returned to class he was still restless. There seemed to be nothing to calm his excitement and slight nervousness.

Izzy had noticed Mason seemed a bit restless and she wondered why they did talk every here and there but it wasn't like they were friends. "Yo Mason. You alright? " she asked. She wondered if Mason didn't like her. Most people didn't like her because of her bitter side of her personality. She was leaning back in her seat waiting for his answer. SHe had to admit, he wasnt that bad looking. She put that thought aside and she just began drawing a game strategy for the Freshman in her journal. They really needed to win.

At Izzy's question Mason dropped his pencil and stopped his leg. "Yeah, I'm fine. It's just some pre-game jitters. I just want to get on the field and play, you know?" He leaned back in his chair and glanced at the clock, picked up his pencil, scribbled some notes in his notebook that were written on the board, then went back to tapping.

Mason stole the quickest glance at Izzy's paper.

"Those plays? Strategies? For the game coming up?" He asked almost knowingly, looking at the clock again and disappointed to find only a minute had passed.

"Ahh I see." Izzy said as she continued on her strategies. She went back and erased a few of the marks she made and switched them around. At Mason's comment Izzy looked up and nodded while smiling. "Yeah. Freshman has a game today so i gotta help as uch as i can." She said. Izzy was always known for helping out the JV and Freshman teams. Its not like she wanted them to loose all there games. That would just be a bad rep on the school.

"The only thing about Freshman team and JV is that we," Mason paused and gestured at Izzy and himself, "put so much effort into preparing them for games and success and they screw up. Then it's like having to start all over again." Mason meant it seriously. He was always shocked at how badly a team of freshman could have so little communication and coordination, it was as though all the hours of practice and physical work had done nothing to their skill level. "I don't know about freshman soccer players but freshman football players can be really dumb sometimes."

Mason leaned back in his chair once more, attempting to stretch out his back. "I don't mean to be rude, don't take that offensively..." He turned to face her as he defended himself, looking at Izzy for the first time all day.

"Why would I take it offensively? I get what you're saying. I hate it too. Like I'm going to be so mad if they loose. I switched my schedule to help Freshman and if they loose i will be mad." Izzy said as she looked down at her paper. She groaned and tore the paper out the journal and crumbled it into pieces. She drew the field all over again and began on an all new strategy. The other one wasn't going to work. She knew what the opponent was like, she played them many times, and she needed a strategy to break down their offense. She looked up and actually saw Mason's face. She loved the color of his eyes.

"Mason, Izzy are either of you paying any attention? I'd hate to have to call either of your coaches..." The teacher said, making most turn around in their seats to stare at them.

"Oh we're paying attention. We were just talking about the lesson, helping each other out - isn't that what teammates are supposed to do?" Mason answered, nodding at a few of his friends who were silently laughing at him being called out in the middle of class.

"Very well, why don't you raise your hand next time, that way I won't have to threaten you. Now..." She started talking about the lesson again and Mason relaxed, watching the clock again.

Izzy just rolled her eyes the entire time. She was about to reply when Mason did that for her. She smiled at him and continued on her game plans. She really needed to get these done and over with so she could finally focus just on school. Her friends were giving Izzy a look and she knew what it meant. They were basically saying for her to continue talking to Mason. She shook her head at the thought of it. She got a paper and wrote, Thanks.(: on it then passed it on Mason's desk.

Mason looked at the paper and then over at Izzy and smiled. Then he wrote, Anytime. Wouldn't want you to miss that Freshman game ;) and passed it back to Izzy. He was glad people still passed notes as most people didn't, at least not his friends now a days. Mrs. Begbie was finally saying her last few words for the lesson and the bell would be ringing soon. Masons was pretty excited and he went back to tapping.

Ariana just smiled and giggled a bit at what Mason had wrote. She finished up on her game plans and she was sure they would work. They had to work. Izzy waited for bell to ring and when it did she stood up, grabbed her bag, and ran out the door. She didn't need to stay here and get yelled at by a teacher. Not today. She was way to busy focusing on the game later today.

The rest of the day passed slowly and uneventfully as the time drew ever closer to the football game. Mr. Peterson was reluctant to let Mason leave early from class due to his lack of interest and participation in class but Mason wiggled his way out by saying he'd make it up to him later.

Mason was joined a few others on the team as they walked down to the locker rooms, their sports bag full of their jerseys slung around their shoulders. Mason was pumped, excited to finally be getting ready to go, very distantly remembering Izzy's commitment to the Freshman and wishing her a small good luck in the back of his mind.

As the day slowly passed, Izzy was more eager to get to the Freshman. Izzy was able to skip her last class to go and help out the Freshman. After they got dressed she had them huddle up and showed them her game plans and explained it. They all understood, "Are you gunna be on the bench?" One asked. Yeah Izzy couldn't play with them but ahe could help them out. "Sure." Izzy said as she smiled. She thought about Mason for a bit but she stayed focused on soccer. They needed to win this game.

Mason got into the field with the rest of his team and they ran their warm up, some of them practicing passes and other running, others stretching. Once the Cougars showed up both teams rallied together, the announcer introducing the game. Mason began to get excited as he looked through the crowd at everyone watching the game.

Coach called them all together and they prepared for kick off. Mason kicked it and they all started running toward the other team, looking for a tackle.

Izzy had the Freshman go through the game plan then the Panthers had finally arrived. She smiled and asked the girls if they were ready which they said they were. Izzy had them go out and she warmed up with a few of them. She was basically the coach for them today. Coach Gomez had a family emergency. She introduced herself to the coach and the match soon began with the Panthers having first possession.

The match began and the coach was impressed by how tight Izzy's game plan defense was. It was perfect because soon the Freshman stole the ball and made a goal. Izzy was happy for them, but the game wasn't over.

For Mason games always went by fast, too fast. One minute they were warming up and the next he was lying flat on his back from a tackle then it was all over and he was sitting in a restaurant with the other guys and their girlfriends.

Right now he almost drunk on adrenaline as he tackled the Cougar's quarterback for the ball. The night was getting dark and it was the last minute and a half in the game, the sky pouring. They were on defense and as long as the Cougars didn't score they had the game in the bag.

With thirty seconds left the ball was souring through the air and Tyler leapt up, grabbing it before anyone else could and falling to the field ending in a turn over favorable for Mason's team. Ten seconds left and Ryan threw the ball long and Mason ran to catch it, running into the end zone on over time, scoring the last points in the game and a win for the night. The whole team gathered together on the field, cheering and yelling. Mason was overjoyed, soaking in the rain.

After they all showered and changed they decided they were going to meet at Olive Garden for their celebratory dinner. Mason was last in the locker room, as usual. He always wanted to take a few extra minutes to recap the game, take a moment to himself to really feel the win. Football was his everything.

In his letterman's jacket and jeans, he strolled out onto the campus, his practice bag hanging heavily from his shoulder. Quickly he walked down to the soccer field, curious if there were still any games going on. There weren't. Football games lasted longer than Soccer games. But he stood there none the less, water dripping into his eyes and tried to visualize how it happened. Hopefully Izzy had managed to lead her Freshmen to a win.

"Mason! You coming?" Tyler called from his car in the parking lot near by.

Mason pulled himself away from his daydreaming and got into the car, glad to be with his team again.

The Freshman did amazing. The Panthers couldn't get anything through the defense Izzy had made. She had played this coach before, she knew what her game plans were like. The Freshman were able to win with a 4-0 win. The team was so happy and were greatful that they had Izzy because without her they probably wouldn't have won. The team went to go eat at Olive Garden and they probably were still there, but Izzy had a ton of homework to do. Plus she had a curfew, that was what her parents were like. She walked out of the locker rooms and onto the soccer field a few minutes after Mason had left. She had gone to watch the last bit of their football game and she had to admit, Mason was a great player. With the rain Izzy thought it was the perfect time to practice her kicking in the goal. She just loved playing in the rain. After at least 10 goals she dried off and drove home. She knew her parents were already going to get mad.

Everyone was all recapping the game, practically play by play as they drove. Mason wasn't trying to boast but their were a few plays he was particularly proud of - especially that last touch down with Tyler.

Since the team was so big they had to take a few cars o get there. Tyler drove as well as Alex and Jason and a few others who were qualified to drive.

Mason walked into Olive Garden, stuffing his hands into his letterman's jacket - he always wore it to the after parties and usually no where else. He didn't want to be confused with others on the team who were only playing so they could boast and brag.

The first thing Mason noticed was that was another long table set up next to theirs, Coach what's-her-name sitting at the head. It must be Izzy's freshman team. He didn't know if Junior Varsity or Varsity had played too. Looking around he couldn't see Izzy anywhere and was slightly disappointed.

"I take it you guys had a win? Congrats!" Mason said, walking up to the Coach. "I hope the next games are just as successful." A few of the girls looked over at him talking with their coach but he couldn't tell if they were angry with him or surprised. He meant to be serious and genuinely congratulatory.

Once at his own table Coach Santora hushed everyone and proposed a toast to their successful win and advancement toward the championship. It was a long night but he soon got back into Tyler's car and they talked, still finding things to say, as everyone was driven home.

Once Izzy arrived home her father jumped all over her about being early to the house and how she should be here for dinner. They are supposed to eat together as a family. "But Josh isn't even here! He went to go eat with his team!" She exclaimed. it was so unfair how they treated her and her brother so ddifferent. "Your not going to that tournament. " he said. It was a Varsity tournament in Texas. That was so unfair. Izzy stormed off to her room and she yelled into a pillow. She got on her computer and posted 'My life is ruined! D:<' on her facebook and twitter. She got her phone and texted Josh about the event. When he got the text he just chuckled them replied with a that sucks. He then drove back home.

( I apologize for the delay in replying. I had an event with my team and extra practice and all that good stuff.. Sorry!)

Once back in his humble abode, Mason's dad congratulated him on the win though be had had full confidence that his son would not lose the game. As it was late, Mason tossed his not worn and dirt clothes into the laundry hamper, changed, brushed his teeth, and crawled into bed. Despite the long day he found himself oddly awake. Reluctantly he took his phone off from the bed side table and checked Facebook. Most of his newsfeed was stats of the game from both spectators and his teammates, congratulations on the game and pointless tags people had decided he needed "in" on. Just as his eyes were beginning to grow heavy, he read Izzy's status, "My life is ruined! D:< " and he distantly wondered what she could be referring to after a night of nothing but wins.

In the morning Mason got up early and headed to school, parking in the student parking lot and meeting Coach on the field in the cold morning drizzle to start practice. Mason never got tired of doing drills and working out, it was all in a days work and well worth it, he thought. As soon as the boys showed up they all promptly left on their five mile morning run, the slow rain collecting on their clothes and faces.

(No worries. We all have busy lives)

Izzy stayed awake all night. She couldn't get any rest at all. How could her father just not let her go to that tournament. It was a huge one and she wanted to bring back first after so many years.

When the sun rose Izzy got up and threw on her gym clothes and packed her other clothes. She walked to school in the light drizzle. When all the three teams arrived, thier coaches wanted them to run that 5 mile run. That was easy for Izzy, or so she thought.

As she ran she passed up many football boys, even Mason. Izzy had great stamina and amazing speed. She knew how to pace herself. She loved running in this light drizzle. She always loved the rain.

As she was halfway done Izzy felt her chest get tight. It was a feeling she hadn't felt in years. She stopped running and tried her hardest to catch her breath but it was too late. Her throat wasnt letting the air go threw and Izzy slow fell to the ground unconsious. As the others came up to her they stopped. The girls and boys not knowing what to do. One girl even called 911.
