Advice/Help What's the attitude toward furries here.

I'm aware fantasy genres include monsters and creatures of that sort and most people are fine with that because it comes with the territory. Though my question is what's your attitude or preferences towards have an anthropomorphic character in your story? Pretty much all of my more fleshed out characters are not human and are anthropomorphic in some way. At this point I can't really get into a human character anymore. I've tried the 'furry' roleplay avenues but they all left something to be desired. It's hard to find real, literary roleplay there. That and me being asexual makes it doubly difficult but that's beside the point.

Basically what I'm wanting to know is would wanting to play an anthropomorphic character 'disqualify' me in some shape or form. I haven't really ventured outside the furry side of roleplay before so I'm not sure what the opinion is 'on the outside'.

I think it's generally fine? There has been some roleplay with furry smacked right in the title in the past. Wolves roleplays are also popular for some reason.

If you're joining another RP, make sure that your character fits the setting. Like, if you are applying an anthropomorphic dog policeman in a realistic stranded in an island roleplay, you will most likely be rejected. Some fantasy RPs don't have talking animals as a race so putting one there breaks the lore.

Just make sure that your character personality, race, etc fits the setting of the RP and it's all right.

We're pretty accepting! I'm a furry, myself, and while I haven't done a whole lot of RPs with furry characters, the ones I have done them with, people've been decently accepting.

First and foremost, I'd probably ask your partner first. In reality, RpNation is a diverse community that can't be defined into "yes we do accept furries" or "no we don't accept furries". Some people like them, some people hate them, some people just don't really care as long as they're having a good time. Be sure to be forward with your partners and ask them, and/or take a look at their interest checks. I've seen a few interest checks where people outwardly state they won't do furry-related content, so it's something you'll want to keep an eye out for.

Like Damafaud Damafaud said, also make sure that the setting calls for it. People probably won't appreciate an anthropomorphic fox in a real-world slice-of-life romance/drama, and that's completely fine. As a furry, I probably wouldn't appreciate it, either. There's a time and place for everything.

Last but not least, keep in mind that there are plenty of fish in the sea. RpNation is a very vast community... You're statistically not likely to find the perfect partner right off the bat, but that's what retries are for.

I'd assume you'll find the same prejudice and stereotypes here that you'd find on any other site. Some gems I've come across so far are "haha i find furries gross xd" and "they just shove all their characters in my settings!" Unfortunately, experiences that people have had with younger players who don't know better seem to have set the standards for any of us with anthro characters.

Rather disheartening as someone with some of their own anthros, to say the least. My advice is to take your own initiative to open up a LFRP ad asking specifically for people comfortable with anthro characters, as opposed to trying to claw through the forums to find a needle in the haystack.

If you're talking about group roleplays, depending on the genre, you can usually get away with working them into the setting.
