Just as the title. I kind of miss being able to ses if anyone whose status is displayed as "online" is currently viewing a thread or recently viewed someone's profile.

No, I mean like the "Recent Visitors" section that was at the very bottom of every thread before. There was also an option on every profile to view recent visitors, show their avatars, etc.

As for recent visitors for profiles, I don't believe that it's possible for that to return. That's what I was told before the update.

Bubblegum is correct. The recent profile visitors and profile view counter were unique to IPS. They will not be returning.
