i just binge read five broken blades in a single sitting the other day and recommend it to anyone who loves multi pov storylines filled with treachery, angst, and a good dose of queer romance~ also for anyone else living in the states, the first limited print run has some really pretty edges

The Pariah by Anthony Ryan. Not sure how I feel about it. It's not bad and I binged like 316 pages in one night, so it definitely kept me hooked. However I feel like it went in a different direction than what I was expecting due the blurb/summery.

but I started reading a book my mom recommended to me years ago called Bone Season and only yesterday did I realize how funny the title is (it is not explicit....at least not yet? I'm only a handful of chapters in but it involves various forms of necromancy and spirit powers I love it so far)

The Stormlight Archive and Mistborn Trilogy- by Brandon Sanderson, his two best fantasy-shared universe series, essentially he has different series that take place on different planets, with the main connect being a (sort of) demigod that travels the universe, usually helping the protagonists before mocking them (In Stormlight it is his profession, literally mocking people for the king.)

I’ve been switching between Red Rising and Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars. Battle Scars kinda reads like a wattpad fanfiction, but Red Rising is totally worth checking out!

I read the final empire last year and LOVED IT!! i wanted to jump right into well of ascension but with wind and truth coming out later this year i decided to see if i could get caught up on the stormlight archives. no idea if i'll be able to start and finish them all in 6 months but sanderson is an insta-buy author for me and i am just in awe of his worldbuilding (i also really want to start his skyward series at some point but also the reckoners-- how does (1) author write so much of what I love???)

as for responding to the actual thread... i just finished two LGBT+ contemporary romances to kick off pride month yesterday after being sick the whole weekend. right where i left you by julian winters and the first to die at the end by adam silvera. the latter made me bawl my eyes out and somehow hurt more than the first book, but overall i enjoyed both! i'm currently reading dragonfall, the first law, and plan to start when the moon hatched soon!

God Emperor of Dune by Frank Herbert. It has a giant homophobic man-worm and is very #menwritingwomen but my sister wanted me to suffer it like she did so we could text about it. I did the same thing to her with Anne Rice so it's fair.

I recently finished Lightbringer by Pierce Brown and now I'm rereading Harry potter... I desperately needed a detox from the depressing vibes of the Red rising series. Love it to pieces but holy shit can it be a punch to the feels. I just need something easy and light hearted, you know? I was reading The Vampire Armand but.. As much as I enjoy the melodrama of Anne Rice's writing, I'm just not feeling it so I put it back on my bookshelf lol

I just finished The Bear and The Nightingale by Katherine Arden.


I liked it quite a bit. I like her writing and I'm enjoying the mix of historical fiction + Russian folklore. It's similar to Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, in the sense that they feel parallel to each other as if both authors had similar inspirations, but but their own unique twist/direction to create to different stories.

The ending felt a bit rushed, but otherwise I thought the pacing was good. Although the end reminded me of a book I read years ago that was really strange and I hope the next book in the series doesn't feel that way.

edit: the book was Alosha by Christopher Pike. Every time I remember bits and pieces of that book it feels like something out of a fever dream.

i just finished a few dramione fics (dmatmoofil as of an hour ago, and countless others from last week because i am an addict for a cohesive and well-written dramione story) and am working through bsp. im not loving it but im hoping itll grow on me since so many others are enjoying it. the banter is good, but i dont know, something is missing for me (or maybe my bar is too high after manacled). im also reading a few marvel fics, but i dont think ill finish them since they arent hitting "the spot" for me

"real" books:
im a few chapters into the first acotar book. i have the first two because i hear the second book is really what pulls people into the series, so im working my way through that. im also reading through the stolen heir series (by holly black) because i loved her other series, the cruel prince

I just finished reading Hannibal by Thomas Harris. I really liked Red Dragon, hated Silence of the Lambs and hopes Hannibal would be better. It... was but it still wasn't Red Dragon good. (Also that ending, wtf??)

I start Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky now! It'll be my second book by this author and I loved Crime and Punishment.

Recently finished Jane Eyre (incredible), now that's one less of the six or so I've accidentally started! Also reading Silas Marner and a biography of Amy Carmichael, dipping in and out of The Great Gatsby and I may have added another last night: Mere Christianity. These are such stunning books.
