West Blue Arc: The Hallows

The ship stopped some distance out in the water, lowering anchor so as not to come any closer despite the tide that tried to pull it in. Then, into the water, a single rowboat was lowered and on that single boat, there was a single passenger. It was a woman. She was fairly young and she seemed to have a certain glow about her that carried with it a budding excitement. She was glad to be on the island and eager for the task that had been laid out for her to complete because to her, it meant something.
Rowing to the island wasn’t an issue and neither was pulling the small little vessel up onto the beach.
As she started walking along the path that would lead her into town, she wasn’t expecting any problems at all. She had no way of knowing how wrong she was just yet and she had no way of knowing what would come next.
Leader: Dale Vroegen
A ship had landed. It was very hard for anyone to approach The Hallows without being seen and the moment they were seen, Dale was the first one to know. His head rose up from a recent article he had been reading and he acknowledged the watcher who had informed him of the new arrivals on the island… new arrival actually. Apparently it was only one person. That made it even more interesting.
“Thank you for letting me know. I will look into it.”
The watcher nodded and walked away while Dale folded up the article for now and slid it into his desk. Making his way outside, the first thing he noticed was the strength of the wind. It wasn’t as calm as it usually was and that had to mean something was coming. Storms didn’t tend to be too much of a problem, but that was because the people of the island knew how to prepare for them. Everyone in The Hallows had a job and a title. Leaders led people. Watchers watched for things. Recorders documented things. Bracers prepared for disasters. Some people even filled multiple tasks. It was a system that worked.
Looking around, Dale pulled someone aside. “Notify the bracers about the storm coming,” he told the man.
“Of course, Leader.” The man ran off to do just that.
Dale watched him for a moment before he continued walking on his own path, a path that would run him right into the newcomer unless she’d shifted course. Luckily for him, she hadn’t and he was able to greet her as planned. “Welcome to The Hallows!”
“Thank you! I wasn’t expecting a formal greeting, honestly. Isn’t that a bit dangerous considering all the pirates that have been seen in the Blue lately?” Elise couldn’t help but be a little curious and for good reason.
“All the more reason to greet everyone,” Dale replied. “It means that the town will be better warned if there are visitors of malicious intent. Besides, I didn’t think one person constituted a threat of piracy.”
Elise nodded. “Of course not. I’m merely seeking some information, but I think a place to stay would probably be in order, first. Do you have places for travellers to stay?”
They did and Dale proceeded to bring her to one of the Innkeepers to allow her to settle in.
Captain Scarlet Johanna Indigrid
Lunch had just finished up on board Charybdis and they were making good progress towards their next destination, the island called Ultimus. It was the last possible stop in the West Blue before hitting Reverse Mountain and even Scarlet knew that they would need to stop for supplies one final time before the actually hit the Grand Line. Given her willingness to let so many people on board her crew, Scarlet had accumulated a group that was a bit bigger than she’d anticipated and that meant more was needed. Additionally, Scarlet would never miss out on a chance to go shopping. It was an exciting prospect.
Jasper was currently at the helm. Everyone else… well, Scarlet didn’t quite know where everyone was. She imagined some people were finishing up lunch, though. She was just content to lean against the rail and allow her eyes to stare out at the water ahead of her. The beautiful blue glistened in her eyes.
After getting past the blockade, things had actually been going fairly well. The marines hadn’t followed. They had too many other captives to deal with. The sea was fairly quiet; they hadn’t run into anyone else in their time out there. The main thing lately had become getting to know the crew. Scarlet had been especially eager to introduce Cygnus to everyone so he could get started on putting together an epic tale of the Red Ribbon Pirates. She also considered that maybe she could convince him to stick around until they got to the Grand Line. That way he’d be in the Grand Line too and then he could spread their story to more important people.
Thoughts running through her head, Scarlet wasn’t paying too much attention to what laid in front of them for a few moments longer.
Then she blinked and noticed something that definitely caught her attention. Dark clouds lined the sky ahead of them. They were still quite a distance off, but it was enough for her to care about them. Turning around, Scarlet made her way up to the helm. “Jasper, you see those clouds too, right?” Scarlet inquired, her voice a bit shaky. “I think we should see if there’s a way to avoid them.”
She glanced around, searching for any obvious places they could go. Of course, without a map, finding somewhere to go was impossible. Good thing they had a map, though. Well, Rena had a map. Maybe Rena could find a way to avoid the storm.
