The weather wasn't exactly ideal but it seemed to fit the situation she was going with. The colder weather was beginning to set in at this point and the clouds hung low and heavy overhead, threatening with the possibility of some rain coming their way. That would be fine if she wasn't in the process of trying to move her things into her new apartment. ...well, okay, it was a motel and the things she was moving was just bags of clothing and her personal items but still. "Please hold off just a little longer," Alona whispered to herself, hearing the first little spike of rumbling in the distance.

She was new to the town. Like, brand new, still was looking for an actual place to stay so this motel was the perfect opportunity to just get herself started at least. People were already talking about the new car. She supposed that was the price of moving to one of these little off the grid towns, people were probably just too used to each other and be wary of newcomers moving in.

Alona managed to break the clock. She sighed in relief as she got the final bag inside her room before the first few drops of rain began to sprinkle down. "Thank god," she said as she sat in her car now, finally able to look out her back seat window. She locked her gaze on the car behind her for a moment, waiting for them to move before she pulled out of her parking spot to take some time to drive around the town while there was still a little daylight. She wanted to get a feel for the place before she went and talked to the realtor about getting her set up somewhere here.

She eventually found herself at a quiet little cafe in the heart of the town. Was on a cute little main street, the buildings small and snug together. Across the road was a bookstore - she doubted they were open this late but she'd have to stop by later to get some entertainment for her room. For now though, Alona was more than happy to sit warm and comfortable inside the cafe, a cup of hot tea steaming in front of her with a bowl of chicken dumpling soup. She was watching the rain outside the window, her cheek in her palm as she seemed lost in thought.

Arturo huffed as he put down the last box from the delivery van, he had been unloading for about an hour as the next few days were going to be harder for the van to get by and being such a small town it was better to have a larger order rather than a smaller one.

lately the town had been a buzz with an apparent new face that was staying in the hotel. A human, a young woman possible mid twenties but that was all Arturo had heard. Locking up his shop he would unpack after some lunch from his sisters cafe. Even as the first drops of rain started to fall Arturo pulled up his coat a little and made it up the road in good time before the down pour started.

As he entered the shop he noticed her straight away, he knew everyone this town but this girl was definitely human with a beauty similar to a foreign model. He decided to test the waters a little as his sister noticed his arrival and started making things for him.

“parli italiano? ( do you speak Italian?)” He paused a little tilting his head a little.

“ or perhaps English would be best huh?” He smiled as he took his coffee from the woman taking a sip with a small sigh. He needed that.

“ your new Here? Just passing through? or are we going to see that stunning face of yours more often? I’m Arturo DeGari” he offered his hand to her as he sat down gesturing to the woman at the counter “ that’s one of my sisters Maria. I own the bookstore down the street you’ll have to pop by and see if anything takes your fancy”

Lost in thought still, she hardly even noticed anyone coming or going from the cafe. Much less when someone decided to approach her and speak in a foreign language. She looked over towards the stranger, looking him up and down a bit before she furrowed her brows just a little. "You're speaking to me?" she asked softly - and boy was he. Alona seemed to be a bit starstruck by the sudden onslaught of conversation from the man, her head canted forward just slightly as she looked at him with surprise. She felt like she was being interrogated right off the bat, earning a small, awkward laugh.

"Uh, hi." He was just... sitting at her table. Alona looked around for a moment, her gaze meeting with Maria's. Maria just smiled at her and shrugged her shoulder almost helplessly before she gave her brother a look that said stop pestering her customers. She didn't care who he hounded after outside her business. It was likely to go ignored by her kin all the same.

"Maybe one topic at a time, hm?" Alona smiled at Arturo all the same, reaching her hand out to shake with his before she dropped it back to her cup and took a small, awkward drink. Now she couldn't even eat. "You're flattering, Mr. DeGari but that's not going to earn you many points with me. The bookstore might though." She smiled at him again. "I'm Alona Ferria. I plan on moving in. I just... have to find a realtor. I'm prone to hasty last minute decisions without much consideration for anything."

Arturo was surprised that she was thinking about moving in, not many people stayed here since it was so out of the way and in the middle of nowhere. He only knew of one house that was available at the moment.

“ there’s a house at the bottom of the hill that’s been vacant for a few years, then there’s one by the lake but that’s one so old I’m sure it was built out out an old farm house, hey Maria didn’t father catch you there once with Duncan and you were so embarrassed you fell into the lake...and you had slime...” he paused as he started to laugh but stopped in his tracks when Maria gave him a look that made him pause smirking to himself he sighed.

“ anyway pop in whenever and i’m sure I can give you something to keep you busy, it’s been a pleasure Ms Ferria “ he finished off his coffee and stood up “ Maria I’ll see you at home” he took his lunch from her and headed out into the rain.

“Sorry about Arturo, he’s too curious for his own good. And the most annoying out of my brothers, if he annoys you tell him that I told you about the time he got his head stuck in my grandmothers vase. Shuts him down straight away.” Maria apologised.

This had to be the strangest interaction she'd come across yet. Alona still wasn't even sure what really happened there, but she grinned at the man all the same. She watched as he took his lunch and headed back out into the rain, keeping quiet until Maria was talking to her about him. "His head in a vase?" she repeated, her brows arching some before Alona laughed. "How does someone get their head stuck in a vase of all things?"

Now that she didn't have company sitting across from her, Alona was able to eat her soup. It just tasted much better without an audience, though her gaze did shift back towards the window to see the man disappear into the book shop. "A house at the bottom of a hill huh? Sounds like the perfect set up to some kind of horror movie," Alona laughed, looking back towards Maria. "...it's... not the start to a horror movie, right? Like no one has died in that house or anything."

“ it was a dare that went wrong, my brother Marcel was certain that Arturo couldn’t get his head in this vase now bear in mind it’s one of those big vase’s like they have in Chinese places so Aturo puts his head in no problem pulls it out again so just to show off he sticks his head in again but because it’s so hot in there his head had expanded for some reason but his head was stuck. He was there for at least half an hour we were tipping ice water down him to shrink his head.” She laughed

“ no, no one died don’t worry, the owners got too old and decided to move away to live closer to their relatives. A really nice house a great garden which backs onto the forest” she explained gesturing to the woodland surrounding them.

“ we usually don’t get many visitors here, did you just want to get out of the city?” She inquired a little more softer than her brother.

Alona chuckled at the story, shaking her head a bit. "To be a fly on the wall for that," she said with a smile. "That's a good little revenge story though, I'll keep it in mind." Maria talked about the house and its location. It sounded like a nice little place. Unless she wanted to stay in the motel or go live in a rickety love shack barely being held up any more, it sounded like that was the place she needed to take a look at. "You mind giving me directions to it? I'd like to go check it out."

Finishing her soup, she pushed the bowl to the side, holding her cooled cup of coffee between her hands again as she looked outside. "This kind of weather makes me just want to sleep all day." She sighed before looking back at Maria and shrugged, nodding her head. "Pretty much. I grew up in the countryside, moved to the city for a few years, found out I really didn't like it but didn't want to go back home either so. I packed up, picked a random place on the map and... here I am." She smiled. "Your brother always that weird around strangers? No offense if you are, but Italian?" Seemed like an odd way to greet someone new and Alona laughed to herself.

“ yeah sure you go all the way down the road until you reach the bar called “ the wicked Wolfe” go left and it’s all the way down the road and that’s it” Maria gestured as she walked over to Alina and picked up her empty bowl and cup she smiled as her comment about Arturo.

“Arturo is weird in general, he’s a good guy though don’t worry. A total gentleman and and idiot as well, just like my dad really. Boys are all the same, wait till you meet the rest of the family” Maria explained with a roll of her eyes like she hadn’t explained this to so many people before.

“Girl I don’t take anything to offence it’s nice to talk to someone new, but he probably thought you were italian you know, cause your cute as a button, he speaks about 6 languages, I speak Italian and Romanian, apparently our family are descended from Italian royalty or Romanian gypsies so many different stories. If you want to talk to the realtor that’s David Conway his phone number is on the sign. I haven’t got his new number on me he is always losing his phone.” she explained.

"Down the road, left, down the road. Seems simple enough to follow." Alona smiled at Maria. "Thanks for the information by the way. I appreciate it." Nice quiet place near the woods, might actually be nice. She'd never gardened before but what better hobby to pick up in a quiet town? That's what the internet was for, for learning new things so she didn't go stark crazy in silence.

Alona looked back towards Maria before she smiled again. "The rest of the family? You make it sound like there's a ton of you in the town. I have an older brother but that's about it. Neither of us are gifted." She laughed, shaking her head. "We know one language and barely got out of college alive. Don't really have much to do with him though, he left home long before I trailed after." Two languages was impressive enough but five? What were they putting in the water here to produce such genius people left and right?

"David Conway. Got it. I'll get his number and contact him soon. No offense to the motel I'm staying at right now of course. It's just going from an apartment to a room is a bit of a task." Alona pulled out her wallet, handing Maria a card to pay for her food as she stood up and followed the woman over to the counter. "I appreciate all the help. Really. I was worried small town vibes were going to mean gossip queens and chatty Cathy's." Once Maria rung her up, Alona took her card back and slipped it back into her phone wallet before she brushed her fingers back through her hair. "What kinds of things do people do for entertainment around here? Any movie theaters or... bowling, anything?"

Maria laughed “ yeah there’ s Marcel, then Arturo, me, Gabrielle and then the twins Arianna and Alistar. Then of course my parents” she explained she didn’t mind coming from a big family it was great some day then other days you needed your own space.

“ there’s board games nights at the town hall, the wicked wolfe have live music and karaoke night, you can go swimming in the lake, they have boats there too, there’s a craft shop if you like to make things” she listed off trying to think about the different things that she would do as a child and what she enjoyed doing now. Of course family was top priority was good to breakaway from them every now and then.

“ there’s a super old cinema that shows like four films a month and shows independent films, there’s always something to do here. It’s a really busy town and there’s a market every sunday. “ she added unable to think of anymore activities from the top of her head.

“ it’s been no trouble, come back any time or when My brothers are annoying you” Maria chuckled as she moved back to where Alona was sitting spraying it down and making sure it was clean for the next group of customers who were rushing in from the now easing rain.

"Wow that's a lot of family." That comment wasn't meant to slip it out but it did. She shot Maria an apologetic look following a sheepish smile. "I only have one sibling and we really have nothing to do with each other so I might as well be an only child," she explained.

As Maria listed off things they could do around the town, Alona seemed decently surprised that there were actually so many options available. She thought they like, might sacrifice a goat once a month to keep the crops happy or something. A passing thought that made her chuckle softly to herself, the woman shaking her head. "That all sounds great honestly. Especially the market. Thanks Maria, I appreciate it." Maybe the little town wouldn't be so bad after all.

Wanting to just beat the rain, Alona hurried her way to her car before she headed back to the motel for the night to pass out and just think about what she was doing here.

The next morning fared much better. It was still overcast and especially cold after the day before, but for now it seemed like the rain had come to a stand still. Which meant it was time to try and get busy setting up her new life; she called Conway like, six times before he managed to actually answer the phone. The last thing the man expected was someone wanting to discuss real estate here - it'd been a while since anyone new actually moved in. They planned to meet up later that week because apparently he was very busy with... something. Which wasn't an issue. It would give her plenty of time to drive down to the house and take a look at it before she sold her soul for it.

Driving into the heart of town, Alona found herself on main street again. It was here, after all, that she'd drive straight down, take a left, go straight down again. She laughed some to herself as she pulled into an open parking spot, climbing out of the car and going up the steps that lead to the raised platform all the buildings seemed to be on. When she opened the door to the book shop, the bell chimed and she poked her head in for a moment before stepping inside and slinking off around the edge as if she could get away unnoticed to go look for books.

The family gathered for their usual evening meal and the conversation turned to the new human wondering if she would settle well in the town or cause trouble within the pack. She was to be monitored from a distance and welcomed into the community.

Arturo sat at his desk, his Feet up on his oak wooden desk as he carefully look over the orders while every now and then flicking over a page in a book or sipping his coffee. He generally had the same few customers who can in more or less straight after a delivery so business went up then. Even as the bell tinkled he didn’t move from his spoke but spoke out throughout the store.

“ Good Morning! We have some reduced items by the door certain ones are two books for the price of one if not just grab a stack and we can work out a price, our newer stock is on the shelves.” He called as he took his feet of the desk to stand up in order to look more professional. Sniffing a little he could smell that new smell. It seems that Alona was paying him a visit after all which made him smile slightly even as he leaned on the desk to read his book.

Busted. Well of course she was, there was a bell attached to the door. She didn't see anyone but she kind of recognized the voice. "Thanks," she called out, looking through the shelves. "I'm just browsing." She took her time looking through the book store, just trying to figure out what they had here. It was a pretty decent collection of books much to her surprise. Alona was figuring it would be smaller with more obscure things but she managed to find a couple of interesting romance novels in the bargain bin. Call them what you will, but those discounted romance novels had a charm to them. More to her delight though was she managed to find a couple of John Saul books. That man knew how to write an unnerving story.

Taking her found collection up to the desk, she smiled at Arturo as she set the books down on the counter. "Good morning," she greeted, getting them organized with the tags up for easier scanning. "Glad you're open this early." Once organized, she looked up at him and smiled again. "Pretty sure at this point your entire family is going to be the primary source of all my business in this town. You'll get rich off me," she teased.
