The Chernobyl Accident has been left unhandled by the Soviet Government for a good three months now; despite the short amount of time, most of the population of the city and surrounding towns have died... or worse. Those who are alive and, health-wise, well, are the few people who found themselves in the company of basic radiation protection, such as special masks or complete radiation suits. These people, once neighbors and friends, now hide in their homes, away from anything and anyone.
During the day, the only noise, aside from the hot winds that scrape against dead trees, is the sound of the occasional gunshot every now and then. During the night, sleep is commonly interrupted by the screams of poor souls who venture the dark streets, or the sound of banging and scratching at doors and windows, be it the home next door or, God forbid your very own. The howling of beasts breaks through any remaining silence that may remain as a comfort to those who live on, now in constant fear.
Local dogs and wild wolves have become one with their new environments. Their hair has become similar to that of a porcupine; rough and needle-like, almost enough to pierce skin. Their jaws appear to unhinge when they are ready to devour their prey, and their paws have become more closely related to that of a lion. They are fast, strong, nocturnal, run in packs of three, and relentless.
Elk/Deer:
The majestic Elk has become a territorial beast that no sane man would ever approach. Their antlers have withered into horns, which have hardened and sharpened like a pike. They no longer move in groups and stay solitary, ready to attack anything, even their own kind, should they feel threatened.
Fish:
Common river fish have either died or have become abominable creatures willing to devour anything that will fit in their mouths. Most have gained multiple rows of sharp teeth and the jaw strength of a great white; falling into water could mean almost certain death in most parts of the Chernobyl area.
Birds:
Most bird species look much more like that of large bats with beaks at this point. They are quick to use their claws for cutting through flesh and their beak for piercing tougher objects, such as, on occasion, car windows. Some birds have been said to be the relative size of a grown man, but this is a rare occurrence. Most dangerous species are nocturnal and are mainly docile towards humans during the day.
Bears:
The local bears are a, thankfully, rare sight to behold. They dwell within dark places, usually being abandoned subways or windowless buildings until the night falls. Their claws have grown into sharp meat hooks, their teeth have extended into fangs, and their muscles and fat have become a perfect meat shield against most attacks. They are extremely powerful, strong, relentless, and overall unstoppable monsters.
Humans:
Those of which who were not killed by radiation have lost their minds to it; commonly deemed 'Savages'. They roam the streets at night, usually in small packs of five, looking for anything to eat, including other humans who do not follow the pack. It is not uncommon for them to eat one another, if they feel that one is not contributing to the pack, otherwise, they will work as a group to corner and brutalize prey. When in smaller packs of two or three, they can be easily frightened by bright lights and loud noises, but larger groups are much more likely to sprint towards oppositions and tear apart whatever may be in their way.
South Kyiv:
Urban, populated by hordes of Savages mostly. Supplies can be found here in surplus.
North Kyiv:
Rural, mainly populated by paranoid survivors and creatures of the night. Dangerous to be out alone when the sun has set, but otherwise safer than the city.
Kirova Highway:
Long stretch of road that goes through a mostly rural area. Abandoned cars litter the road, along with unfortunate people left to die in the radiation and the little they had to pack up and leave. Mainly a no-mans-land, ruled by Savages and beasts alike.
Chernobyl Plant:
A hot zone for the most unspeakable monstrosities; it is rumored that a giant creature, like a horrid mix of snake and squid, rests underneath the rubble of the destroyed power plant, waiting to be awoken. Radiation levels are high enough to almost instantly kill most people who enter without proper protection.

-The Sights-
Main areas are the city of Kyiv, which spans about two miles in every direction. The south side of the city was the most densely populated, making it a danger zone for anyone within it. The North side is mostly woods or small, rural neighborhoods. Taking Kirova Street, a main highway/freeway, for a little less than 10 miles will land you right into the Chernobyl nuclear plant.

-Trade and Commerce-
Should you be so lucky to find someone willing to trade, you will very quickly find that money no longer has any value except for kindling fires and making frag mines with coins. The only resource worth trading is ammo and food. Anything canned is the most likely to be traded with, and all ammo is welcomed.
-Transportation-
Anything with an engine has likely been contaminated and destroyed by radiation. Bikes, should you find one free of rust or looting, are the best source of quick transport.
