CommanderKisha
The Snarkiest Fox
"Welcome aboard the X-Uberant!"
......
The planet Nyx has always been somewhat highly regarded for both its pristine beauty and ideal location within the Goldilocks Zone, causing some cultures to go so far as declaring it too sacred for colonization. Those beliefs, however true or untrue they may have been, were never destined to last.
After the Blazing Wars obliterated thousands of inhabited planets, Nyx would eventually come to be known simply as Home. It was a place free from the violence and hatred that ravaged Earth and many of the other well-known planets, and more importantly, somewhere that wounds could be healed and lives begun afresh.
Due to its status as the only reasonably sized planet still capable of sustaining life within the known Galaxy, Nyx was colonized by millions of survivors, many of who were still clinging to objects and ideals from their own planets and cultures.
Judgements and prejudices were put aside due to necessity, thus creating an incredibly diverse and utopian melting pot where machines of war and armies were considered unneeded relics of a shamefully violent past. Flora and fauna transplanted from these thousands of planets grew together in harmony as millions became billions and the Nyxian belief of peace before all else blossomed, creating an era that spanned over seven hundred years without so much as the threat of war.
That halcyon period too, would unfortunately come to an end.
Nyx is now slowly dying, overtaxed by population growth, diminishing resources and a newly implemented, massive divide between the rich and poor. Crime organizations have begun to spring up amongst the poverty-stricken cities, and streets roamed by rouge criminals and vigilantes have become as common as the now-invasive House Fly. What once was utopia has fallen into something far more reminiscent of dystopia, and Nyxians of all forms are not happy.
War is a bitter aftertaste lingering on the tongues of all those angry with authority, though at least for now, it is an unspoken and unattempted evil lying dormant amongst frustrated minds. The people have not forgotten war's many horrors, and the few citizens still in power are willing to do anything within their abilities to prevent repeating such a shameful history.
While technology is incredibly advanced and faster-than-light vehicles about as common as the millionaires who can afford them, space travel has yet to probe deep enough to reveal a planet that is both large and stable enough to support Nyx's still-growing population. If the Nyxian's famously optimistic determination pays off, however, that may be about to change.
Hundreds of Nyx's top scientists, engineers and mechanics were called together for an incredibly important and top secret task. Working tirelessly every day while the rest of the world continued on unaware, they eventually reached their goal and created a prototype spacecraft both strong and efficient enough to cover huge distances and, if all went according to plan, discover a new planet that would take the place of their broken Home.
With construction and testing finally complete, the only thing they needed was a commander and crew willing to risk their own lives for the good of many.
"Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking. Typical generic sci-fi story with a band of lovable and moral heroes who set off on some brave adventure, get their butts kicked by a few equally cliche villains but win in the end, bringing peace and prosperity to every living thing. They'll settle the new planet effortlessly, then the scene will jump forward and reveal a Dead Guy Junior or two running around wreaking havoc on their smiling, ageless parents. Cue the happy endings and all that boring, overrated crap.
Played and overplayed, done and overdone. You don't really expect it to be like that though, do you? Wait, you actually think it works that way? Kid, the movie theatre's over there. Oh, nevermind, it's a little late for that now, isn't it?
Anyway, welcome aboard the X-Uberant, unknown life form! I'm Commander Kisha, and since you're standing here talking to me, you're obviously a part of this stupid quest we've gotten ourselves roped into. I'm not exactly sure how I accidentally ended up the commander of Nyx's most prestigious spacecraft, but completing this mission is gonna clear my criminal record and pay all of us 500,000 shards, so it's gotta be a good thing for someone in my situation.
And yours, of course. Honestly, you look pretty prepared for this considering the short notice. Meh, guess I'm not too bad at choosing random crew members from some over-crammed city bunker. Guess that fight club training really did pay off...
Anyway, make yourself at home and go exploring onboard if you've got everything you need. If not, you better hurry up and grab it, because we blast off at sunset, and time goes pretty frickin' fast when you're awaiting your possible demise... Oh, I wasn't supposed to say that out loud, was I? Stupid optimists and their realism phobia.
Well, what'cha waiting for? Take care of any last minute details, then meet me up front and strap yourself in before we take off, because I'm pretty sure most of you have never been off Nyx, and I don't wanna be responsible for any disasters on the first day."
Basically, it's a science fiction and adventure RP with elements of survival and even a little humor. I'm going for a fairly laid-back feel, so while there will be danger, it won't be at constant breakneck speed. Plot wise, the ship's gonna check out a few unfit planets before eventually crash-landing on one that's ideal, though eerily decorated with hundreds of unknown, ruined space vehicles. Obviously the crew is gonna try to survive here and make the best of it, and what happens after that is up to where the roleplay leads us, though I do have a few endings in mind in case we get stuck.
You can play as whatever species/race you want so long as it's humanoid enough to communicate with the others and isn't overpowered. Androids, humans, anthropomorphic animals, aliens of all types... It's really up to you. They can have pretty much any career as well, so long as it offers something to the ship, and they don't have to have any prior experience exploring, fighting or surviving dangerous situations. Heck, they can be painfully unfit if that's how you wanna play it! All I ask is that they're at least fairly reasonable and social, because the last thing anyone wants is a ship full of rebellious, brooding loners.
The characters were all picked at random by Kisha, who is only commander because she accidentally tipped of a bunch of people before a disaster and ended up saving them, thus being elevated to an un-earned heroic status. You can see a picture of Commander Kisha in my media folder, she's the blonde fennec fox wearing all the high-tech gear. I'll obviously make a character sheet for her if this is a go.
I've set it as Casual so it's more accessible, but if you personally lean a bit more towards Detailed, that's totally cool with me. The only thing I ask is that you're fairly active and post at least a few times a week.
I'll be playing two characters, unless there aren't a ton of takers, in which case I'll probably play three. You can have two characters or just one to start with, it's your choice.
If this is a hit, I will code it far more elegantly, but I'm not gonna spend hours on something no one's gonna use. Same with the character sheets, so if you're interested, let me know. If you don't like this, please don't rip it to pieces, because I'm still learning. Thanks!
Be creative, and most importantly, have fun!
