TITLE.
brief
a world filled with monsters, real monsters we only thought could be imagined. society no longer standing strong, cities turned jungles and people turned crazedโ what would you do in order to survive.what is left of this world.
In order to survive this world one must close off your heart and do what is meant to be done. You fight to survive, you fight to breath, you fight to eatโ itโs either you or them, they no longer breath the same air as we do.. they are no longer the people you once knew.
Finding a piece of hope in this terrible world is what everyone wants right? A place you can call home, to have a little bit of a routine and normalcyโ The Sanctuary is just that. A beacon of hope for any survivors out there, for some this place meant life or death.
TITLE.
what do we know.
as the world evolves, so does the infection. the course of these past 80 years have proven that as it seems the infected as grown then when it first sprouted on earth. evolution has caused them to be smarter, fasterโ as if a soul is actually left within them. these new variants, now called NewBorns, still go through the same stages, but they are simply more intelligent and work together,,, something that should never have happened. the world still has your atypical infected from when it first happened, but the number is growing smaller with the introduction of these newborns.
between stages 1 & 2 variants, they are often found in swarms. working together to take down their โpreyโ and create more infected, making more for their swarms. itโs unknown as to how this started or what about the infection that poses for the sick to work together, all that is known is to leave a swarm alone. they follow the same hive mind, but oftentimes you can see a slight hierarchy within these swarmsโ the larger infected will pick on the smaller ones, pushing them out of the way and often hitting them. the further they get into their infection and cross over to stage 3, they will leave the swarm and venture off to be either alone or be with other clickers (this part is mostly assumed, we donโt know if clickers join together for convenience or donโt bother with each other. but sometimes clickers will stay within their original swarm, though itโs unlikely.)
It has also been noticed that over the years the swarms have begun to form certain cliques, as if the infection has evolved. within these swarms they have been seen forming relationships among each other, more keen of their surroundings and intelligent enough to avoid man made traps. as if still possessing a human conscious, working alongside the infection rather than fighting it off, these newer infected act like a functioning team. it also has been noticed that those infected have been shifting between stages at a slower rate than those in the later years. people have been calling these ones newborns, as these infected are a new form of variant that all must come to fear.
animals have been one of the only living things that havenโt been affected by the infection, for whatever reason the fungi simply don't like living within their bodies. if an animal happens to eat something infected with the sickness, they donโt live for very long and will end up dying, fungi sprouting from its body and essentially becoming a huge mushroom. it has only been these recent years where people have been starting to see more savage creatures, blinded by the fungi and thirsting for human flesh. Typically bitten by the newborns, it has been noted that wolves and brown bears are a chosen target of the newborns, but there have only been sightings of 6 in total; 4 wolves and 2 bears.

Runners
Stage 1. the first stage of the infection, these variants have been newly infected or within the first year of infection. will attack you in an instant, incredibly violent and will charge head on into you. known for their speed and sluggish performance, runners will not hesitate to attackโ most commonly seen in hordes, have learned to work as one when on the prowl. you often never see a runner alone, so youโll need to be vigilant and know your surroundings well. runners typical are seen hunched over and mumbling, they snarl and growl at themselves almost constant and on rare occasions have been heard using actual wordsโ those within the first stage unfortunately are essentially trapped within their own minds, forced by the infection to witness their own demise, but only for the first 2 months before their consciousness is forever lost..
Shrills
Stage 2
The second stage of the infection, this variant by its name, is known to have a powerful scream. They use this scream to debilitate their prey and allow themselves and the swarm to attack, their screams have been known to destroy eardrums. Keep your distance from these infected as their screams will attract the whole swarm, you will never see a screamer alone and if you do leave it alone or at the very least take it down as quickly as possible. Besides the fact it screams, you can tell the infected is within stage 2 is the progression of the fungi growing. They have more intense strength compared to a runner, their violence and anger is more immense to that of runners.

Clickers
Stage 3
the fungal has taken immense control, digging deeper and deeper into its hosts brain. what was once left of a human is no more, their face no longer human as the fungal has completely covered it and because is this clickers are completely blind. utilizing echolocation, they often can be found clicking and screeching their way around in order to make their way through areas. โClickers also possess high intelligence, never leaving an area when they have heard prey run by them, and will constantly check every available nook and cranny to locate the source of the sound with little regard to giving up on the task at hand. However, their echolocation is crude compared to creatures like bats, as they will not notice that something is alive or moving unless it is directly in front of them. This supports the assumption of the front being where the clicks are sounded, as their face plates are shaped like a megaphone directing it straight ahead of them, but not all around.โ (last of us fandom.com) they often can be found in a passive state if left alone, but these guys are incredibly dangerous and more of a threat then screamers and runners as their is no longer ghe human conscious to resist the infection any longer. clickers can be found in groups of about 6 or 8, but most of the time they donโt see out other clickers like the first two stages.. they just happen to be together in their constant searches.

Bloaters
Stage 4
big fat infected that look like swollen ballonโs.

Nightbear
NightBear
was once a mighty grizzly bear, the infection took a hold of the beast and turned it into a walking nightmare.
its become twice the size of a regular grizzle, the fur on itโs face has essentially melted off and only the skull of the bear and fungi have laid havoc to once was eyes and nostrils. though if your lucky enough to get close and survive, there happen to be rumors that this bear has a human skull morphed to its headโ no one knows why, but itโs scary none of the less.
not much is known about this bear as it is a relatively new monster, having had been infected by newbornsโ little to nothing is known of these variants and itโs what keeps you up at nightโฆ not knowing. often found hanging with a horde of newborns, as though protecting it like itโs own family.
incredibly aggressive and monstrous, unlike other infected where they donโt often keep humansโ the nightbear has a thirst for human flesh and will go out if itโs way to slaughter a human, no questions asks. wont eat regular animals, for whatever reason.

squaller
these variants are typically and unfortunately children that have fallen to the sickness. since they are much smaller and โweakerโ compared to the other variantโs , squallers tend to inhabit out of reach places like bunkers and underground placesโ they have mastered the art of slinking around in the dark, their eyes are essential to seeing in the dark. basically adapted to that of a mole, their eyes are incredibly sensitive to light and will wither in pain from any sort of the like. the easier variant to kill, but since they are smaller they have been known to crawl in super small openings and crevices, they also have been seen crawling up walls. flash them with a light and they will run away, will stay their distance if you donโt fuck with them or get to close. some have been heard to cry, a pitiful displayโฆ but donโt fall for it. often seen with a bloater more than not, since squallers hide deep underground.
