Down a long, dry highway leading into a lush Mississippi forest lies Woodbourbon. The small town is named for its large number of moonshiners during the prohibition.
The gentle buzz of a tightly knit community fills the air. Kids play in the streets and are expected to be home by sundown. The local comic store is filled with nerdy young adults, all eagerly checking the stock for the newest issue of their favorite comic.
The local high school is the only exception though. Instead of the feverish hum of teenage drama and angst, it's quiet. Almost empty. The parents of most of the local teenagers opt to send them out of town. You see, in recent years, the beloved town of Woodbourbon has become dangerous. Some say it's haunted. Others say it's the Lord punishing those that defy him.
Children have reported seeing figures in the forests when playing. Farmers are saying strange shapes and symbols are being drawn in their corn fields. People are going missing. Bodies are being found in Whiskey Creek, the townβs biggest body of water. Severed limbs are washing down Whiskey Creek and into smaller rivers and streams. Blood has flooded down the stairs of Bourbon Baptist, the townβs church. Bloody handprints on the stained glass have scared away the majority of the parishioners.
A devoted few remain loyal to the small Woodbourbon community. The majority of them have jobs in the town.
The remaining teachers of Woodbourbon High are among this group. They arenβt paid much, but they care for the community. They rely on each other. Many of their co-workers have quit. Packed their things, their families, and their old lives in their cars and left- but those that remain loyal to the town are close. They take care of each other. Protect each other.
The Woodbourbon Cryptozoology Club was started by a few of the devoted staff of the high school to help arm their students for life in a town surrounded and inhabited by what they referred to as cryptids. The club's goal was to identify each cryptid, learn about it, then, eventually, find a way to either disarm it and/or deter it from further disturbing the town.
[1/3] The Staff Sponsors
These are the founding members of the Woodbourbon Cryptozoology Club. They're an eccentric mix of extracurricular and core class teachers, but they're doing what they think is right.
[0/3] The Freshman Members
These are the youngest members of the club. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, these students are fresh out of middle school and ready for the responsibility and joys of young adulthood.
[0/3] The Sophmore Members
One year ago, these were freshmen. Have they kept their happy-go-lucky and ultra-positive view of high school life? Probably not! But hey, at least they can drive to and from whatever creature they happen to be investigating.
[1/3] The Junior Members
Ah yes. Two years left! Yeah, maybe they're disenchanted, but thereβs a few years left until they're in their prime. Enjoy exam season and look forward to senior year.
[0/3] The Senior Members
Well. Theyβve done it! Four years of mediocre food, mediocre education, and mediocre people, and they're almost done. Good job seniors! They're offically the closest students to adulthood. Well, except for the ones that are already adults.
2. ) Absolutely no smut. If you insist on having characters do that, they must be seniors or older and it must fade to black.
3. ) 15+. Minors are allowed but dark & religious themes are being explored so please be mature enough to handle them.
4. ) Realistic face claims or descriptions only. Human characters only.
5. ) This is not first come first serve. You cannot 'claim' a role. You can submit multiple sheets if you wish, but only two will be accepted. You can play one character per catagory. If you submit two freshman, only one will be accepted.
6. ) This roleplay welcomes (and is looking for!) diverse characters. Characters of all genders, orientations, neurotypes, and physical ability are welcomed.
7. ) Your character's grade / occupation must fit their age. We are not having a 21 year old senior or a 19 year old math teacher- please make sure it makes sense!
I'm not totally sure how many people will be interested in this as I am aware a lot of people on this site do not like writing teenagers... but I've been rotating this for a while and I hope some of you reading this would like to participate!
Further lore / details will be released if there is enough interest for a Discord to be made!
