Way of the Jade
Reign of the Sun Emperor
Reign of the Sun Emperor
Only a very small number of people knew where they had gained such a power.
Ever since the creation of the earth, different forms of jade had existed, each derived from one of the Three Pure Ones of the Three Heavens. Mundane jade was simply the jade that most people knew, expensive, beautiful, however completely useless. Natural Jade was the second most common type, however still very rare. Natural jade had the affinity to absorb elemental chi from its surroundings, allowing them to be used as catalysts for rituals, or even to power small devices briefly. Spirit Jade was the third most common, but three times more rare than natural jade. Spirit Jade provided identical chi to what was present in people, and could be used for what most people thought was only fiction: spells.
Celestial Jade was a different story altogether. Created directly from the orb of creation, Celestial Jade contained, along with nearly an infinite amount of chi, a soul, and were typically used to forge weapons of legend. But Celestial Jade is a myth within a myth, and there is only a handful of people that even know of its existence.
You’re a citizen of the Empire of China. Ever since the Sun Emperor rose to power, you’ve seen only suffering even within the Empire. People are imprisoned and tortured for no reason, there isn’t enough food to go around, and living conditions are poor. Even though the Emperor encourages people to live in predetermined areas to create cities of trade, these cities often spawned black markets and gangs that made the crime rate all too high. Yet nothing is done for the people, actions are only taken against those that speak against the Emperor. You know something must be done, yet you do not know what. That is, until you learn the existence of the jades of legend, and realize that power can only be fought with power.
This roleplay will be centered in ancient China, with a force known as chi which allows one to be able to manipulate their own body, as well as one of the five elements or two forces of balance depending on what their affinity is for. Chi can be used to perform magic, also known as using the mind, or spectacular feats of martial arts, or using the body. However, using chi that stems from one's own body disrupts the delicate balance of body, mind, and soul present in every being, as a person's chi comes from the soul, and is exceedingly harmful. Thus, the different types of jade are sought after by those who seek to master their mind and body.
