In a land of iron and prayer, faith is the law, and the law is upheld by fire. The church has hunted magic to extinction, burning it as heresy, while the beasts of folklore have faded into childrenā€™s stories.

But now, whispers crawl through taverns and fieldsā€”rumors of strange deaths, bloated corpses, slaughtered livestock and eyes watching from the dark. The priests preach calm, but unease clings to the people like sweat. Even the most devout flinch at shadows. The air is thick and damp with something wrong. Something old.

It bleeds across the landā€”slipping out of the far edges of the state, untouched by the churchā€™s hand. From the southern jungles, where trees groan like the dying and from the frozen north, where the wind howls the secrets better left unheard.

While the rulers deny it, the people feel itā€”something ancient stirs right beneath their feet.

FAITH AND POWER

Empire of Veridion. Plains of wildflowers and primeval forests that stretch beneath jagged mountains. Everything between the southern jungles and the frozen wastes is ruled by faith. The Order of Light holds absolute power thereā€”from the thrones to the farm fields. Sancta Cael is at its heart. The city of sacred light and the home to the one chosen by gods. The Clarion. The prophetā€™s word is law, enforced by the council of Supreme Veritas. Across Veridion, each region answers to its own Veritasā€”each wielding power with the weight of the church but bending knee to Sancta Cael.

Clad in white and silver, the White Knights of the Order serve and kill in the name of god. They patrol the lands for any signs of forbidden magic or unnatural phenomenon. Heretics, traitors, anyone stepping out of line tastes their iron and fire.

Behind closed doors, the royal houses play a dangerous game of shifting loyalties and manipulation. Like hungry wolves crave blood, they crave power, each vying for influence within the church's rigid hierarchy. Factions of different cultures and alliances, united by the word from the scriptures, grind against each other. Every day closer to the edge of war or rebellion.

SHADOW AND FIRE

For centuries, magic was the living force of the land. It came from the primordial source, believed to have birthed all life of the natural world. Wild and untamed, it's powers were capable of healing the land or tearing it apart.

Now, the use of magic is punishable by death and those suspected of the faintest connection to it are investigated and neutralized by White Knights of the Order.

The creatures of folklore, once respected like apex predators in the animal world, were now called monsters. Feared as embodiments of magic that average humans couldn't harness or understand. Slowly fading from memory, their true names forgotten.

Though the church insisted they were nothing more than relics of pagan myths, sightings have begun to increase. In the southern jungles, villagers speak of twisted, vine-covered forms stalking the trees, while in the frozen north, the icy winds carry voices not heard in centuries. As people go missing and more bodies turn upā€”disfigured or mutilated beyond recognitionā€”fear spreads that these creatures, long thought to be eradicated, may be returning, driven by the anger of a forgotten force.

Maybe magic is not truly goneā€”only dormant, waiting beneath the earth and in the dark corners of the land, ready to return with vengeance.

SWORD, CROSS AND CROWN
The kingdom is held together by men of faith and their divine rules, but it was built on the backs of the common folk and on the graves of royal families. Across the land, all kinds of men with different backgrounds and hidden agendas roam the grand continent.

Veritasā€”the holy politicians following the words of scriptures and their own plans and desires. The White Knightsā€”ruthless enforcers in gleaming silver, indoctrinated since early age, they crush heresy with sword and fire. Royalsā€”ambitious families clawing for power within the church, their schemes driven by greed, old bloodline secrets, and need for justice. Peasants, outcasts, and tribesmenā€”living with the land and in fear of what lurks within it.

Then there are the othersā€”the dreamwalkers, herbalists, whisperers, healers, and others who use forbidden knowledge passed down through the ages, risking death for even a whisper of witchcraft.

Hi, thanks for checking this out. This roleplay is application based. Your roleplay samples and preferences, not your CS skills, will determine whether it's a good match for you. This is going to be an open world and sandbox so you're welcome to carve out a part of it for yourself and encourage others to engage with you. There will be a macro storyline you can be a part of and it will be controlled by all participants who want to lead it. The roleplay will start in a couple of weeks.

THIS ROLEPLAY IS FOR YOU IF

1. You're an experienced 21+ writer on the advanced side of the writing spectrum who uses Discord.
2. You're not in a hurry, have patience for roleplays that are slow, and you're able to regularly reignite excitement for this kind of setting.
3. You can post at least once every two weeks on average, but are occasionally available for plotting and short IC replies more frequently.
4. You touch base at least once a month but let us know ASAP if youā€™ll be unavailable for an extended period or need to drop out.
5. You enjoy and are capable of world building around your character and leading your subplots.
6. You enjoy roleplaying even if you aren't involved in the main plot, or you're prepared to co-GM the main plot with other participants if you wish to join in.
7. You are flexible, proactive, and can treat this roleplay as your own, since you'll be co-creating and co-managing it alongside other participants.
8. You understand the concept of a medieval fantasy setting with low magic and wonā€™t introduce fantasy elements that donā€™t fit the realm unless the whole group agrees to such changes.

THIS ROLEPLAY IS NOT FOR YOU IF

1. Your initial excitement fuels high activity but it's short lived and you often lose interest and ghost or leave early on to chase new ideas.
2. You know you won't have the time or patience for this project.
3. You often take up a few projects at a time to see which one will hold your interest.
3. You're used to controlling one character and not comfortable world building or controlling parts of the world.
4. You tend to inspire or participate in OOC conflicts.
5. You're uncomfortable with controversial or dark topics.
6. Roleplaying for you is primarily a way to socialize or a quick distraction from real life, rather than a collaborative writing hobby.

APPLICATION

1. Please ensure this roleplay is a good fit for you, as it will save everyone's time in the long run.
2. PM me two examples of your writing: one long-form piece (a roleplay starter or a passage from your personal writing) and one shorter example (an old post where your character interacts with or responds to another character).
3. Let me know what aspects of the story youā€™re interested to exploreā€”combat, political intrigue, mystery, or witchcraft? Share what excites you about this roleplay and why you think itā€™s a good fit for you.
4. Do you have any preferences or deal breakers we should be aware of?

That's it! You don't need to create your character yet to be accepted. You can comment below or just PM me the information, and we'll take it from there.
