roles.
The son of the Miyamoto-kai’s oyabun, and probable heir to his father’s throne. Once devoted to finding his own way, outside the violent sins of his father, after his mother’s death, he now walks in the footsteps of his predecessors, dead set on carving out his own name in yakuza legend, and stepping out of his father’s overbearing shadow.
He arrives at Yokai with the intention of starting a fight: to make a public spectacle of his Akechi rival getting bloodied by his knuckles.

the red prince(ss)
open
The second yakuza heir, though this one decked in red. After their father’s death, they rose through the ranks to become a respected, prominent figure in the empire they’re likely to inherit. Grew up alongside The Black Prince — same social circles, same schools — and always wanted to prove they were better than him. Tonight is the chance.
They’re at Yokai not only to make sure its opening goes smoothly, but because they set a trap: they knew their rival would take the bait and make an appearance, low numbers to slip under the radar. What better way to avenge their father’s death than by drawing the descendant blood that killed him?

No family, no home, no future: right from the start, his life was defined by what he could seize for himself, scraping by on the streets, tooth and nail. He found his calling with the Miyamoto-kai, his fate intertwined with their prince. Finding acceptance in their ranks and proving his worth, he became entrusted within the heir’s inner circle.
He arrives at Yokai with the Black Prince, intentions of proving his chosen’s side supremacy veiled behind a thin intuition of a hidden threat.

the red knight
open
Another street rat, born with little opportunity, who found a family, born and bound by shared beads of sweat instead of blood, within the Akechi-gumi. The old oyabun treated them with respect, became a father figure, but a distance was always kept, and it fostered a bitter resentment. Though loyal to the Red Prince, serving as their protector and advisor, jealousy boils underneath the surface: a question begged, if blood wasn’t in the way, would that legacy be theirs?
The Red Knight follows their leader and charge into Yokai, with thoughts of an opportunity to take what should be theirs in the back of their mind.

the host(ess)
open
An orbiter of the yakuza world, The Host is well versed in the inner workings of the syndicates. While others in their profession have not been so lucky, the club they work at, protected and ran by the Miyamoto-kai, has always been fair to them. The money flows; the Host has a vested interest in protecting their livelihood, though they might be open to better prospects.
The Host is at Yokai under the guise of business, but has another motive: to spy on the Akechi-gumi, and hopefully bring the information to the Miyamoto for a payout.

the idol
open
Fame and fortune reign down upon The Idol, a career in acting and music on the rise, with their face strewn about screens about magazines. The popularity is largely funded by the Akechi-gumi; the youngest child of the former oyabun, and sibling to the Red Prince, The Idol’s prominence is owed completely to their family, and it comes with strings attached.
The Idol attends the opening of Yokai out of obligation: their name and performance being used to promote the club.

the detective
open
There is no such thing as a good cop within the territory of the vicious yakuza. Either they’re on the payroll of the criminals, or have swallowed the bitter pill of truth: to catch the worst of the worst, sometimes you have to use their tactics. The Detective is the later. Their partner killed in a struggle between the Miyamoto and Akechi, they harbor a seething hatred for both, and seek to bring both syndicates down, by whatever means necessary.
They’re at Yokai because an informant dropped a hint that something big is going down: the perfect chance to walk away with some big players in handcuffs, and possibly body bags.

the journalist
open
Endless hours, shit pay, and close encounters: only the most insane of thrill-seekers write about Tokyo’s seedy underground, rubbing shoulders with yakuza as a nightly routine. With one foot in with the police, and the other with gangsters, The Journalist is a mostly neutral entity, merely doing their job and going to whoever offers the juiciest story.
They’re at Yokai on a hunch: the Akechi-gumi opening up a club on Miyamoto-kai turf? Their article about the upcoming night is bound to make the headline.

the premise.
11:11pm. Tokyo, Japan.
Yokai, a new nightclub within Shinjuku, is having its grand opening: pounding music, flowing alcohol, and weaving bodies making a transcendent night. Some are there for an escape and pleasure, others for business. And some are stalking the shadows, using the chaotic rhythm as a cover for nefarious activities.
Two rival yakuza syndicates are moving shogi pieces across a board. The Akechi-gumi have a stake in the club, and are providing security for its first night of open doors. The turf it was constructed on belongs solely to the Miyamoto-kai, who plan on making an appearance to flex their muscle, and scare off the competition. Those linked to the two families — through blood, bond, or binding — are also present, caught in the center of the eye of the storm.
Thunder roars, dark clouds circle, the air smells of smoke and rain, yet before the lightning can strike, the earth shivers and shakes; the shogi board falls, its pieces scattering.
The page flips, and a new story begins.
2am: The Witching Hour.
The dance floor erupts. What was written off as drug-induced flailing turns violent. Hissing, growling, clawing, and biting. They look human, but their eyes are blank. Many more turn and fall before realization hits.
The virus is spreading, and our players are on ground zero.
Welcome to the apocalypse.

Some Quick Lore About the Yakuza Syndicates:
- The Miyamoto-kai & Akechi-gumi are the two largest, oldest yakuza syndicates in Japan, with a long history of bad blood between the two, dating back to their origins.
- The former Miyamoto-kai oyabun was slain by the Akechi, and replaced by his brother, who started a long, bloody conflict in retaliation. The streets ran crimson; even higher-ups in their respective organizations—including the Akechi-gumi oyabun—dropped like flies.
- The two new oyabuns finally had a sit-down, where new turfs were determined, and a fragile peace reached.
And, for clarity (in case if it's needed):
Yakuza Structure:
- Oyabun: The Boss, leader of the syndicate.
- Wakagashira: The Underboss, oyabun’s second-in-command and right hand.
- Shateigashira: Heads of specific regions, over a number of individual, smaller gangs / crews.
- Kyodai: The head of an individual gang / crew.
- Shatei: “Made” men and women; soldiers, crew-members.
