Some may think it's a spoiler but it's not. The cast and creators gave the information at SDCC. No one knows what will happen in Season 7 but below is what the cast said about Shiro at least.

I'm pretty used to roleplaying Klance or Punk but now that we officially know that Shiro is gay and had a fiance back home before he left for the Kurburos mission I would love to play off that.
Adashi (I'm fine with being either character)-- The guardians return home and Shiro and Adam meet back up again after all the years apart. Shiro explains what happened out in space and tries to win Adam back.
Klance (I'd rather be Keith but I can do either)-- Keith returns from his 2 year time trip with his mom. Lance has been missing him like crazy and had been depressed the whole time. (It wasn't two years to the guardians but it was for Keith and Krolia) One of them initiates a private conversation and they catch up, telling each other what happened and one of them ends up ranting about how much they missed the other and feelings are thrown into the mix.
Punk(I can be either)-- They bond over their mutual love of technology. They slowly realize they may have feelings for each other but don't say anything right away because they are afraid they will get rejected. (Can be some time in the canon verse or an AU) They continue to work together closely until one of them can't hold back their feelings anymore.
Fee free to pitch any idea or we can brainstorm one together.
