Name: Blake
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Pansexual
Age: 20
Branch Affiliation: Soldier
Race: Half-Dragon
Appearance: Blake has platinum blonde hair and blue reptilian eyes. His skin is pale and he has small marks from childhood injuries all over his arms and legs, mostly from attempts at flying gone wrong. His wings are scaly and are structured similar to bat wings. The plagiopatagium and the dactylopatagium (look it up) are leathery and are mostly translucent. The scales are blue, ranging from navy to aqua in colors. The wings come out where the shoulder blades are. Blake wears black or brown clothing and has a plain black cloak. He stores his tonfas in sheaths on his belt. He tends to walk with his knees slightly bent and with his hands held out a little from his sides.
Magical Abilities:
Chargeup: Blake can charge up electricity for storage and later use. He can choose the amount of electricity used when he channels electricity. When he charges, he tends to cause a lot of mild static electricity. Charging completely takes about three hours, give or take. Electricity from other sources is absorbed by Blake.
Shocker: Blake has the ability to create electricity and make a current. This means that when he activates his shocking power, whatever touches him gets shocked by electricity. At the maximum, it's not enough to kill, but enough to cause some serious pain and incapacitation for some time. For this to work, he has to touch something for it to take effect. When he uses the power, the body part that is charged starts to spark a little with electricity.
Tesla Coil: He can create arcs of electricity. When he uses them to go low voltage, they don't hurt at all and are basically just for show. They can leap to up to four feet. When he uses a lot, the result is a five-second stun on the victim that also drains Blake of his energy. These high voltage bolts last for two feet before they lose effectiveness. Both types of bolts are directional, but the bolts seek their own path. If he shoots a bolt at an enemy with a sword, the bolt is going to arc towards the conductive steel instead of the person, unless he's close. When Blake just shoots without a destination in mind, the electricity will seek out the best conductors. Because of this, he doesn't use it as much as the other powers.
Channeling: Channeling is Blake's specialty. He can use the electricity to give himself the strength of two normal people and the speed of three. This drains him a lot, and his muscles get extremely tired afterward for about four minutes for every minute when he channels. Blake uses it for brief moments, and almost never channels for prolong periods of time.
Physical Abilities:
Equivalent of Karate: Blake is well-versed in Utustae, (yü-ɡəs-tī) a martial arts style focused on hand-to-hand combat, focusing on strikes such as punches, palm strikes, elbows, etc. Kicks are also used in Utustae. The martial arts style was supposed to be used mainly in tournaments, but due to the nature of Blake's powers, touching his opponent is all he needs to gain the upper hand in a fight. In the fighting style, his movements are fluid and quick, and momentum is constantly manipulated.
Flight: Blake has the ability to fly, quite obviously. His wings allow him some range of motion, but due to the lack of aerodynamic body shape, it's awkward and hard to use. Blake can't reliably use his wings in strong winds, storms, or small rooms, and he's not able to do any fancy acrobatics while flying.
Vices: Underconfident in his abilities, almost never cuts his losses, sometimes can't read the mood
Personality: Blake is for the most part, cheerful, friendly, and helpful. He isn't one to give up and always tries to lighten the mood. Blake takes note of things but doesn't think things through. He's rebellious and isn't a fan of authority. He is never serious, and when something bad is going on, Blake sometimes doesn't realize it and comes off as insensitive. He means well, but his actions don't always convey it. While he tries to get everyone to lighten up, he is constantly on the lookout for anything dangerous. He has promised to never get himself into the kind of toxic relationship that his mom was in, so he always tries breaking up anything even remotely close to that kind of thing. Due to how he was raised, Blake always sells himself short and doesn't want to fight because he sees himself as less capable than most others.
Background: Blake was born in Alenia, in a northern town that had only a few people. His father was human, and his mother was a dragon that had shape-shifted into human form. His mother trained him in his powers at first, and it became clear that she had only sired him to be a servant and/or a minion. She was often cold and demeaning, insulting him all the time and telling him that he wasn't good at anything. At the age of 15, his father tried to stand up for Blake. In retribution, he was killed by his mother. From there, Blake avoided his mother as much as possible. Several times he tried to escape, but was always found and punished. Once he became an adult, he ran away from the northern town for the last time and managed to stay low. He changed his name to Blake, changed his haircut, and headed off to more urban areas, reasoning that he would be harder to find in urban towns and his mom wouldn't be able to use her dragon form in the town.
Blake had heard about Visian Academy and decided it would be a very good place to get to. At the moment he had a cloak and an empty backpack that he was using to hide his wings, but it wasn't perfect. Blake was accepted to the school and made his way there.
Familiar: His familiar is a Thunderbird the size of a red-tailed hawk. Blake found it in the woods when he ran away, and they've become companions. The Thunderbird trails streaks of electricity behind it when it starts to fly. It isn't good in combat at all.
Other: He has a pair of bladed tonfas that he secures onto his forearms with leather straps when needed.
- Name: Winston Mistbrewer
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Age (18+): 19
Appearance: Winston has cropped brown hair and blue eyes, along with a wicked cool cloak (that bears no resemblance at all to Mistborn cloaks). He has a capelet and leather gloves, although he usually just wears clothing that isn't nearly as tight or uncomfortable when in private. He moves in a carefree way and doesn't act like he pays attention to his surroundings.
Race: Human (Alchemist) - Branch Affiliation: Mage
Magical Abilities:
Brewing: Can infuse elements into steam, smoke, or mist. This requires him to have one of these three in a bottled container, and the element in question. This doesn't tire him out much. Elements that can be safely infused are fire, water, earth, air, and life. The effect depends on the elements and the thing to be infused. He specializes in mist, hence the name. The result is what is called potions although that is not technically what they are. They are not meant for consumption at all.
Activation: Winston can activate dormant power in the potions. This takes some time to do; he can, at most, activate five of his potions at once when fully rested; it will take about five more minutes to gather the strength to do five more. Like other activities, conserving his strength is better, and activation can be practiced to make it easier.
Skills:
Knife fighting: When he can't use his powers, Winston uses his knife. It doesn't have long reach, but it is enchanted to give the user better reaction times. His knife glows yellow due to this enchantment. When not in use it is kept sheathed on his belt.
Climbing: Due to the terrain of his homeland, he has had lots of practice climbing and is very good at it.
Familiar: Tradition dictates an apprentice is given a tentaculus upon graduation; imagine a pinkish land octopus that isn't slimy and is instead soft and silky. Now turn that octopus the size of an infant's head, make it really light, and you've got a pretty good idea of what a tentaculus is. Tentaculodes have the ability to suck in and absorb potions, using this energy to boost their strength and speed. This makes them about twice as fast as they would be normally, and it is used to stop any weird potion effects that occur when other elements are accidentally brewed. His tentaculus is named Washington. - Personality: On the surface, Winston is a carefree guy just looking to make a friend or two or read a good book. He doesn't care too much about grades, he does enough to appease teachers and breaks the minor rules all the time. Underneath that, he's a scholar, looking to send scientific knowledge back to his people. Winston is carefree, but he also is someone looking to find knowledge about everything possible and bring it back to his homeland's libraries.
Vices: Naive, Impulsive, Reckless
Virtues: Lighthearted, Optimistic, Perceptive - History: Winston was born in the lands west of Alenia. He lived in a different country than the ones Alenia fought with, one called Terina. It is a very small country and is one of the older ones in the region. The Terinian capital is a hub of scientific knowledge, and that was where Winston was born. The library there was the largest that he had ever seen and is said to contain many historic secrets if you can find them. He grew up dreaming that Winston would one day contribute to the storage of knowledge.
Winston became an alchemist, with the hereditary power passed on from his father. He excelled especially with mist alchemy, and his skill gave him his surname. Once he finished his initial education, he departed to Alenia, since it was a much greater country with more knowledge than Terina ever would. A rumor had been growing in Terina, and it was confirmed: there was a new academy. Winston jumped at the chance for enrollment, and he got it.
Family:
Father: Head of the family, he protected Winston and his younger sister from harm. They're close, and his father taught Winston the art of alchemy. He still lives in Terina.
Mother: She took care of the kids, teaching them morals, and taught them how to act with foreigners or when they were in a foreign land. She still lives in Terina.
Willa: As the younger sister of Winston, they got along pretty well. As they grew older, it became clear that he was better at alchemy while she was smarter, and they grew farther apart. She is also in Alenia but is not enrolled in Visian Academy. They write to each other every week or so.
Alchemy Details
- Generally, life is the most potent and powerful, because it requires the greatest sacrifice of the five. The more of the element you have, the more potent the potion will be, and you also can't mix two potions together to put in one bottle. Once the potion in the air is activated, it is absorbed slowly by whatever is using it. If nobody is using it, it will fade into the air over the course of ten minutes. The effects will always be the same, but the length of the effects will be lengthened or shortened depending on how much was absorbed.
By "life" I mean anything that was or is part of something living: tree bark, an ant, a drop of blood, etc. Your own blood is more potent than anything else though, which is why small amounts of blood are often more powerful than slightly larger amounts of biomatter.
The potion will be the same color as their element; life is white, air is grey, earth is brown; etc. - Life: Heals the user. This mainly consists of minor wounds such as shallow cuts, sprained joints, and bruised bones, with things like deep cuts and broken bones requiring more sacrifice.
Fire: Gives the user a boost of energy that increases their strength to about 150% of their original speed. Opponents will also get a boost when in this, but fire steam is absorbed very quickly. The boost lasts for about 10 minutes, give or take.
Water: Refreshes the user. It does not add on to a person's capabilities but makes it so they are not tired and have larger magical reserves. This is used mostly after battles.
Earth: Increases the senses of the user, mainly sight and hearing, so that they are more perceptive and able to make things out more clearly. This will last as long as there is still steam being absorbed.
Air: Slows down the user's perception of time. This does not mean slowing down everything else; it just means that everything happens in slow motion, including your own actions. This lasts for about five minutes. - Fire: Heat is amplified for whoever is inside; this slowly builds up, and after about fifteen seconds, they'll get blisters. After forty-five seconds inside, the person will start to develop first-degree burns. They cannot be killed this way; the amplification will stop at mild first-degree burns, but it is rather painful.
Water: It temporarily blinds whoever is inside, and this effect lasts for about three seconds outside the smoke. It feels as if water has been put into the victim's eyes, and when they try to see everything will just be blurry. This effect is only true to whoever has their eyes open; if your eyes are closed while in the smoke it does not affect you.
Earth: Sandstone will start to materialize and stick on whoever is inside. After fifteen seconds, the dust will start to compress on itself, creating an outside shell of sandstone that traps the target in a quarter-inch casing. After thirty seconds, a regular person can't break out. This does not suffocate the victim; there are always holes in the cast to allow the victim to breathe but not move. Once the equivalent of one cast has been made, the smoke disappears. Hands and arms can be cast this way even if the whole person is not inside. The sandstone will crumble naturally after twenty minutes without anyone trying to break it.
Air: Anyone inside this will be flung out immediately like a hurricane is inside the smoke. Likewise, the smoke itself will whirl around, almost like a tornado. For anyone who is on the ground, this acts as a hard push; maybe they fall over, maybe they don't, but they are pushed back a few feet. For anyone in the air, this boosts them several feet away. - Life: The user will develop a sheen on their skin, and they start to glow slightly after about three seconds in the mist. When this starts, the user will become slightly stronger and faster. This aura breaks when they are hit with an injury that would incapacitate them, such as a sword or a blunt collision. If not, the aura will fade over the course of fifteen minutes.
Fire: The user's willpower is boosted, giving them higher morale and letting them do something with furious intensity. It gets the user to drive themself forward. This will generally disappear over the next thirty minutes or so as a gradual fade away.
Air: Each minute inside the mist, for a total of three minutes until the mist disappears, the user gains a teleportation; you can get at maximum three teleports. Once you go out of the mist, if a teleportation does not occur in five minutes, give or take, the ability to do it will be lost. The maximum range is ten meters, and only to someplace you can see.
