Also, do we have familiars? i saw someone wrote about having one
Yes familiars are okay as long as they are 'house pets' no crocodiles, bears, wolfs or such xD but cats, dogs, habits, birds, etc... Are totally fine (even frogs and such are okay).

Okay so just to make sure anything related to the use of magic to control fear, emotions, memories or hypnosis can't be used because that's what I was aiming for but if I can't use it for my character I'll search something else.
Controlling emotions is okay just not people (hypnosis doesn't work against someones true intention like for example if someone deep down isn't willing to do something they have been hypnotized to do the hypnotism is easy to break so that would be okay since it gives the characters a chance to resist if they want to)

Guys I didn't read any of the characters yet but just in case: for powers try not to make them too fantastical. I wish for this RP to be 'realistic' so it would be nice if the powers were the typical ones used by witches in media. I am not saying you can't be creative and change a few things hehe I mean no unicorns, faeries or Harry Potter magic. Think more along the lined of the inspirations I mentioned (The craft, The Secret Circle, American Horror Story: Coven, House of Night, etc...)

Oh and so there won't be too many different terms for male witches lets just call them witches as well if that's okay with you guys?

She could have the power of the earth elements (think 'earthquake' moving it, controlling it etc...) or control nature (make nature grow or die, doesn't work on humans of course, she could make it do watrver she commands, within reason and to a certain limit of course) there are a few other options.

It's okay. I think I have a pretty good alternative made. :3 I'll post him later today.

By the way, is it okay if I make a small request of everyone? (Board leader, let me know if I'm overstepping my bounds here, though I do think this is kind of important for accessibility reasons). While these CS codes look quite nice, some of them are near impossible to read on mobile, which is my main form of accessing this site. Would anyone using code mind adding a text-only spoiler at the end, or something for mobile users and those who might have difficulty reading the coded text for other reasons?

I was thinking she could change into all animals as a major power- perhaps with one form she uses more than the others, or finds it a little easier to change into that form?

Threw it out in lieu of approval, but I'm hoping "Conjuration" is fine.... The idea I have is actually a lot more complex... Maybe too complex, I just realised, but I'm going to put it out here and see what y'all think.

I guess the inspiration is more straightforward, taken more from classical witches than anything. As such, there are strict conditions that must be complied with in order for magical phenomena to occur. In the case of my character, "Conjuration" is just the catch-all term to classify her magical profile... I'm sincerely lazy to think any deeper, and I'm taking way longer than I should be doing all this, so... Sorry!

Returning on point, the conditions to be complied with are (in this specifically numbered order):
  1. A verbal incantation
  2. A spell scroll (or in this day and age, a piece of paper)
  3. Suitable raw material(s)
The upside of rolling with "Conjuration" is the freedom to go beyond one specific element. In theory, my character would be able to replicate the abilities of all the other characters in this RP. Obviously, that's stupidly unfair, so these conditions serve as the limits. The more significant (arbitrary, I know) the magical phenomena being invoked, the heftier the conditions will be. IE. The incantations will possibly take minutes and some serious memory skills to perform, the spell scrolls will actually need to be of a higher quality and raw materials will be more bizarre and exotic. So on and so forth, you get the idea.

On the other hand, the simpler magical phenomena will require easier conditions. Shorter incantations, crappier paper, maybe even no raw materials. The most simplistic would require only verbal incantations. There will be no short-cuts, incantations must be verbal.

This all is very arbitrary so far, which leaves me a little curious as to how Pthenora Pthenora will react :P I would go further to define what constitutes "simple" magical phenomena and vice versa, but it's really too late, and I have no time left in the night (here). So perhaps this would be a good place to stop and take stock.

Tell me what you think! I could always just roll with something a lot more straightforward. My CS isn't complete yet, so it could still be changed.

I think that is a really great idea and will add a spoiler to mine once my character is done (I am still 'tinkering' on her CS hehe)

Hmm that sound more like a type of magic to me then a power, a power is something a witch can use without tools, spells, potions etc... Like conjuring objects, telekinesis, pyrokinesis, geokinesis, talking to animals, ghostwhispering, reanimation, being a medium, etc... Or did I misunderstand your explanation by any chance?

Guys I would like to ask you if you have any questions or suggestions for information you wish me to add to the thread about the school and so on? If any of you have any ideas for places and photos you can submit them to me in a PM and I can see if they would fit into my vision of the school and it's surroundings : )
Also if any of you want me to add a few spells into a spoiler on the thread with the school info I can do that (I would just look up a few from shows and such).

just one thing: where approximately would you think the school would be located? Probably the east coast I imagined, but I didn't want to assume

Hmmm I was thinking maybe a small town somewhere around Maine but I am open to suggestions (I was thinking making up a town might be better since that way I can use pictures I like even if they aren't from the actual town, if you know what I mean by that?)

I totally get that, that works! That area's super good for a place like this, just try and find places with a lot of trees and grey skies lol (its beautiful and not as depressing as it seems i promise)

I dig it. That climate is so great and picturesque.

Pthenora Pthenora

Oooh, just had another great idea- a ghost who's able to possess inanimate objects. She'll have invisibility and intangibility as her minor powers, obviously. What do you think?

I will try to find some from actual Maine but if I cant I will try to find similar ones (the places around school and the school wont be from actual Maine since I found a few I liked and they are from all over hehe) I think its important that the main idea gets across, its fiction so it shouldnt be too bad if I make up a town right? : )

oh absolutely not! i think making up towns is way better than trying to use a real one, it makes your life so much easier haha
