Life, Life has been the same for you. It’s an ordinary life in an ordinary world. You may be living a casual life, or you may be facing struggles or problems you don’t know how to deal with. Perhaps simply you’re just suffering because life has gradually become more painful, or life took a bad turn and now you just need to escape from it. Those, however, are not important. At least, nothing could be compared to what happened eventually. For some of you, it may be just two days ago. For others, it may have been a week, two weeks, even a month.

Either way, it was random, almost sudden, when you discovered that you have acquired supernatural powers. It was almost out of nowhere when fire suddenly shoots out from your hands, for example. You don’t know what caused it, but you have learned that none of those fictional stuff are actually, well, fictional.

And just a day ago, you vanished from the world you were living in.

Once again out of nowhere, once again abrupt. Perhaps you’ve been feeling strange the whole day, as if you’re already expecting something unusual to happen. You take one step forward while walking and then boom, the whole world changed. You are no longer in a world where you used to be. Shrouded in magic, you have entered the world of the supernatural, and you are to become students of a particular academy.

Allow me to say this is where the story begins.

Welcome to Vehemen, the Academy of Hunters

A Brief History Of This World Unknown to You:

Twenty years ago, a giant crack formed in the sky above Praeces, bringing with it a darkness that shrouded the Earth. From within the widening crack, down came gigantic monsters that began to tear the world apart. This incident would later be referred as the Doom Day, and the monsters would eventually be called Poex, monsters of all shapes and sizes with overwhelming strength that could kill dozens of people at once. They destroy cities, take the lives of the innocent, rampaging the whole world.

In order to defend themselves, people stand up again these mighty monsters. Those who are born with supernatural powers or managed to obtain it through serious personal training, or those who are familiar with the usage of weapons, banded together to fight against the Poex. Five years later, the Vehemen Academy was built to train young individuals to become professional hunters.

Along with the Vehemen Academy, the Vehemen Hunter Association was built as well. After the students graduate, most will become part of the organization and be constantly prepared to go on hunting missions whether it’s within their own country or out. To become hunters become one of the most popular professions for people to take on in this world.

The Grim Nights:

Only two years after the academy was built, an incident took place that was so impactful it would mark its place in the history of the world. Around the world, sirens blasted across different countries as cracks once again formed in the sky. The cracks were the size of a whole small continent itself, and from it giant holes formed. Monsters that were even larger and more powerful invaded the Earth once more as they leapt out of the Hole. As if they’re their leaders, Poex began to follow the lead of these newly dawned monsters in the destruction of the world. Thousands of people died, cities destroyed, no hunters were capable of stopping this chaos once and for all. All hope was lost, the world fell into despair.

Heroes From The OtherWorld:

However, just as everyone was about to give up, a couple students from the Vehemen Academy stepped out. Their origins had always been mysterious, as they did not come from the same world everyone were in. When questioned, their answers had always been vague, only that they “came from another world different from this.” However, their powers had always caught everyone’s attention. They learned faster, they grew stronger quicker, and most of all, their powers were a lot more overwhelming. When Faex led the rest of the monsters into the city of Raevedel, the main city where the Academy stood, these students stood out and took on the fight, ignoring the warnings and reluctance of the professional hunters from the organization.

They were strong, but not the strongest, obviously lacked a lot of skills and experiences. However, their heroic display of actions once again lit up the courage that had almost faded in everyone’s hearts. Together, everyone teamed up together to fight against the monsters once again. With these students leading in the front, they pushed on and on, until the miracle happened.

Giant Light Miracle:

The Miracle, or so everyone would call today, would be that night in the endless fights against the Faex and Poex when the sky once again opened up a crack. However, instead of more monsters, a shining white light dawned upon Earth. At the same time, the couple of students that had led this seemingly endless war would begin to glow as well, their bodies radiating off the same light that was coming off from the crack. With a magical force, the monsters were seen being pulled back into the sky, through the Hole, and faded away just as the Hole sealed close. No one knew how they did it, even the students were confused themselves. However, from then on, the students were deemed heroes as well as the key to saving the world. Students and even professional hunters looked up to them, hoping for similar miracles to happen again. They would continue to serve the country and the world as hunters, long after they have graduated.

But eventually, they disappeared, and were believed to have returned to their original world.

That same “Miracle” had never happened again.
--

Two years later, there would be another group of students that came from the OtherWorld. Similar to the first generation, they seem to be more advanced than the rest of the students, whether it’s their learning speed or powers. However, little was known too much about them, their fame did not last long after a certain incident took place.

Now, you are the third generation of students from the OtherWorld. People would look up to you guys as possible future heroes, the ones who have the chance to save the world. Obviously, you all may still be confused about the origin of your powers, this new...World you just entered. The whole city, the whole country. A world filled with magic and monsters. A world not known to you before.

Here, you will undergo 4 years of hunter education like everyone else, probably with more of special treatments. There will be classes, trainings, and actual missions. There will be unexpected accidents, opportunities for you all to shine, chances to work together to help save this unknown world you have just entered. And, well, people would look up to you all for hope.

At the same time, monsters are not your only enemies. The illegal Organization, Faciete, is on the rise, creating more chaos within the society. The government is paying close attention to both the academy and the hunter association. The academy also seems to hide more secrets than it seems. People are also dying in this city from unknown causes….

Are you ready for this unexpected adventure ahead?

The World:

The World of Lumen, the world where magic and supernatural elements exist, is regarded as a parallel world to the World of Ningen, or the ordinary world where the OtherWorlders come from, but neither world has no knowledge of the other until the OtherWorlders cross boundary, entered Lumen and introduced the existence of this parallel world. Within Lumen, the Kingdom of Praeces is located in the eighth continent, a continent that did not exist in the world of the Ordinary. Upon taking a look at a map, one would notice that the continent is located in the center of the North Atlantic Ocean, between the kingdom of North Eveiland (which was once North America, to your knowledge based on the map’s location) and Dazenfall (which was once Africa.)

Dazenfall was once part of Praeces. Fifty years ago, a war that led to Dazenfall’s victory successfully led to its separation from Praeces, leading to its formation as an independent kingdom. Despite setting on a peaceful treaty, the relationship between Dazenfall and Praeces has been stiff, constantly competing with each other for resources in addition to Praeces’s intention to get Dazenfall back. Recently, Dazenfall has been rising in power, and spies from Praeces have reported back to Praeces that Dazenfall has been experimenting to create artificial Poex to be used as part of thei military. Dazenfall may be having the intention of invading the main city of Raevedel, which is where the capital of Praeces is located.

Kingdom of Praeces, City of Raevedel

Aside from world political issues however, the Kingdom of Praeces is a peaceful kingdom to be in. Here, people’s races and ethnicities may seem really diverse, and everyone’s names may look as if they come from different backgrounds and countries. Language barrier is not an issue in the Kingdom of Praeces, because people seem to naturally understand what the other is saying, even if they in fact are speaking in two different language. To be more specific, what they are saying may be of foreign words, but you’ll hear it as your own language in your head. Perhaps this is part of the magic, or natural powers, that Praeces is shrouded in, as if hinting that all kinds of people will be understood and welcome here. This is also why the OtherWorlders can easily adapt to the world and the academy without any language difficulties.

The source of this interesting power that surrounds the whole kingdom is still not yet known, but most people have believed that Weston F. Dawnison, the President of Praeces, enables this type of supernatural power as an advanced technology to be used in this kingdom. Nonetheless, Praeces still have its own native language, known as Praecen, that the students in the academy is required to learn. Foreign countries, such as North Eveiland and Dazenfall, also have their own native languages. Classes are available for students to take if they’re interested in learning about the foreign languages.

Within Praeces, Raevedel is the capital city. With a combination of medieval architecture designs and modern buildings, the city of Raevedel is known to be a beautiful and advanced city where most businesses, famous schools and academies, gather. For example, it is where both the Vehemen Hunter Association, Vehemen Academy, and the Government House are located. The famous Yelvill Military School is also located here, as well as well known theaters, restaurants, musems, big companies and various other corporations. It is the most prosperous city of Praeces and also the most expensive city to live in. At the same time, however, it is also a city with an increasing crime rate, and has the most illegal and dangerous activites hold by the illegal dark organization, Faciete.

The Vehemen Academy:

Built a couple hundred stories tall in the main city of Raevedel, this remarkable architecture is not as ancient as some other academies that exist in the world of Lumen, having come into existence only after the Doom incident took place. The Doom, referring to the day when the world was shrouded in darkness and a giant crack formed from the sky, was the day when monsters landed in this world of the Supernatural. They would come to be named as the Poex and Faex causing chaos among the world. Students of the Vehemen Academy would be trained to become professional Hunters, to eventually be a part of the Vehemen Hunter Association to hunt the monsters down.

Like any academy, students will spend four years here. Classes will be divided into two types, Regular Courses and Training Courses. Regular courses include general subjects such as math, language, science, history, etc. Training courses, as the name is self-explanatory, are courses that focus on training students to become Hunters. They include Weaponry, Battling, Hunting courses that each student must take. When the academy is first established, emphasis are put onto both types of classes. However, as the problems of monsters are on the rise, more and more focus is put into the Training courses.

Students will also be divided into groups upon enrollment. For OtherWorlders, they’ll automatically be put into the same group or two groups. Each teacher will be responsible for monitoring 1-2 groups as the supervisor, and each group will have an upperclassman guide them as their student assistant or leader. Each group consists of around 3-5 people. OtherWorlder groups will often be assigned to the same classes, and be told to work together in field trips and shadow missions.

Often, students will go on “field trips,” which are trips that expose students to different parts of the kingdom, whether it’s solely for education purpose or to provide direct experience to students in dealing with actual battles and open danger. Of course, field trips are only for students that have been approved by professors and teachers as safe to go on the trips. Different from the field trips, at the end of each semester, the students as groups will be paired up with a teacher or professional hunter from VHA to go on “shadow missions,” which basically allows the students to accompany them to complete missions, a shadowing opportunity. The difficulty of these missions are based on the students’ grade levels and skills analysis as a group. The OtherWorlders, however, may have more opportunities to go on field trips and shadow missions than the rest of the students.

The OtherWorlders:

Referred by the people of Lumen as the OtherWorlders, these teenagers to young adults are from the world of the Ordinary, also known as the Ningen World (as named by them), where no magic and supernatural elements exist. The OtherWorlders are regarded as the Chosen ones, mostly because of how randomly they’ve been “selected” to obtain supernatural powers and to enter the world of Lumen and due to their history with the First Generation that led to their beliefs that only these Chosen ones have the ability to initiate the “Miracle.” They also catch the attention of the land’s natives because of their fast adaptability to magic and trainings. They seem to learn everything faster, and they require less training to become as advanced as some other upperclassmen students.

Because of the OtherWorlders’ advanced abilities, often times when the VHA is in need of more assistance or the academy needs immediate help, the OtherWorlder students will be called in,, allowing them to get a lot more first hand experiences and well, jealousy from the rest of the students. However, it may be suspicious on how the academy and VHA takes a bit too much liking on them on requesting them to go on these shadow missions. Is it merely because this world needs them this much, or maybe they’re also being observed…?

The reason as to why they’ve been selected, how the Miracle happened, or how they entered the world in the first place, is still unknown. It is also unknown about the ways to return to your original world: whether or not it can become something for you to control, or if you could only do it after fulfilling a certain purpose. The First Generation, after all, seemingly just vanished one day and was never seen again. There are still many factors about OtherWorlders that make them mysterious for both outsiders and them themselves.

In addition, OtherWorlders have a strange marking located on a part of their bodies that are obtained at the same time when they first get their superpowers, whether it’s on their hands or left arm, which distinguish themselves from the rest of the people. When superpowers are used, the strange marking will glow in response. When they first obtained the marking, there’ll be a brief sharp pain as if a tattoo has suddenly been forced onto them. All three generations of OtherWorlders have this tattoo.

Roles In The Academy:

Third Generation OtherWorlders:

As a third generation Otherworlder, you have just entered this world and is newly enrolled into this academy. This means that you have no knowledge about the world, or pretty much everything explained so far in the lore. Everything you know so far are only of your original world, your past, your story. You will learn about this new world you entered as the roleplay goes on as a character. Obviously, as a roleplayer, the lore is still needed for your own knowledge.

For some reasons, even though a lot of people will still look up to you all as the Chosen ones, possible heroes, there are increasing rumors and sayings that in the end, OtherWorlders like you are really not that all special due to the incident that took place in the Second Generation. Nonetheless, you all are still fairly respected within the academy and by people outside of it as well.

It is also important to note that you’re still pretty much a rookie and new to your own superpowers, regardless of whether you have already learned some basic skills yourself in your old world if you’ve acquired the power for a-while already before you entered Lumen, the world of the Supernatural. You’re a newbie, still really fresh to everything, getting ready for a new adventure.

Second Generation OtherWorlders:

*Note: This read is necessary for those who would also like to be a second generation OtherWorlder. It would be an incident that you, as a junior now, would had gone through in the past having experienced it firsthand. The incident would serve as a trigger as one of a major events in the roleplay (if it could last!) and also impacts your life in the academy. However, if you are solely going to play as a 3rd generation OtherWorlder, you may come back later to read it for later and skip it for now as it is not really important for you right now. If you are a teacher, you may have only heard of the incident and what happened, but would not be there to experience it. Unless you specifically want to be a teacher that was there.*

The Fangen Theater Tragedy:

Two years ago, you came into this world and entered this academy as rookies, just like the Third generation OtherWorlders that you are now responsible to supervise in. There were in total seven of you, guided under the same teacher, Professor Ulyssa Yue. Whether you guys developed a close bond with each other or not is up to you. However, in the span of one year, you guys accomplished a lot together and had gotten decent recognition in the past, living up to the title as the “Chosen ones.” In particular, Rei Fey, one of the seven Otherworlders with you, had received the most praises and recognition for his outstanding deeds. Society regarded you all as heroes and held high hopes in you with your assistance in guarding the city’s safety, saving people and defeating monsters.

At the end of your freshman year, as a celebration to the end of first year, several groups of freshmen, including all the OtherWorlders, went on a casual school trip to the famous Fangen Theater where a musical would be performed. Halfway through the show, however, the lights went out abruptly. It would only be a few moments of wait before the lights went back on--the stage light, at least, and the lifeless body of a female could be seen hanging in the center of the stage by the neck. The female would be identified as none other than Venelisa Dawnison, the only daughter of the President of Praeces.

Fate, however, did not give anyone a break in the midst of chaos. As soon as everyone recognized the corpse, a dark, black energy exploded out from her body. Like a bright light, the energy was so blaringly powerful it seemed to blind people who stare at it for too long. At the same time, as everyone soon caught on, the energy had the power to attract Poex and Faex into the area. Screams of horror and confusion filled the air as windows were blasted through and doors barged open, horrible bestial creatures made its way into the theater. Multiple monsters were also seen invading the city, but focused on nothing else except to run to the building you were in. You, along with the rest of the Otherworlders and many innocent students and citizens, were still inside the building. There were around 250 people in general, trapped in a theater when monsters began forcing their ways in from the entrance. Immediately, along with other professional hunters and teachers, the Otherworlders crew sprang into action to save the people, only to find that the most prominent one, Rei Fey, was missing.

“It worked...It worked….Hahaha, hahahahaha!”

You would then hear his voice coming from the front of the stage. Other citizens would notice as well, when they saw the hero they had placed their hopes in--the popular OtherWorlder, stood there next to the hanging body of Venelisa. His eyes were glowing red, and an eery aura spread out from him that was twisted and unnatural. He did not look like himself. He looked very different from the gentle, sweet persona that everyone had associated him with. You did not know if he’s really being himself for sure, or whether he was behind all these that took place that day. All you would know, however, was that he was holding something in his hand. A button? It looked like so. He pressed it. The building began to shake.

“...The building’s collapsing! We need to leave!”

Professor Ulyssa Yue was the first to yell out when she noticed the cracks beginning to form in the walls, small pieces of concrete, muds and rocks beginning to fall down from the ceiling. Monsters had also burst through the theater from both doors and windows, making it impossible to leave. Among everyone’s desperate cries, Rei’s laughter echoed in the background, looming, mocking all misery.

Yet, he would not be important at that moment. Everyone part of the Hunter academy and association had done all they could that day, trying to save everyone’s lives. You, along with two other Otherworlders, were also there, and heroically you guys were the ones who made the first opening in the walls, cleansed out the monsters in the path and allowed the people to evacuate through the giant hole you made. There were only three of you OtherWorlders who would eventually be responsible for clearing the field outside of the Theater in order to people to safely escape, and would not be aware of what’s going on inside anymore. The building eventually collapsed. You all done well. Nonetheless, there were still casulties.

In a total of 257 people, there were 97 injured and 24 deceased. Among the deceased were the four other OtherWorlders, including Rei Fey’s, and two teachers. Professor Ulysse Yue was also marked as deceased, but her body--except for her arm, was never found.

This incident alarmed the whole kingdom, and investigation went on for months to years. It was said that Rei Fey was being mind controlled and was not himself during the incident, and that the culprit had the purpose of framing the crime onto him. These were evidenced by the forensics when they saw a strange marking on the top of his tongue, a symbol that took the shape of an eye, with a “v” shape in the center of where the pupil would be. Police suspected it to be a crime performed by the illegal organization Faciete, but there was not enough evidence to confirm that to be true.

Despite news suggesting that Rei Fey was being mind controlled or brainwashed through supernatural means, there were still people who were not fully convinced of his incidence. What happened to him in addition to the deaths of the four other OtherWorlders caused the Second Generation Otherworlders that you are a part of to diminish in fame. The heroic deeds done by them, however, whether it’s by the ones that are already deceased or not, was still recognized, praised, and rewarded for. While some people lost trust in the OtherWorlders due to Rei, you guys are still respected and looked up by many. However, like outdated idols, you guys were no longer the center of attention like the First Generation had always been. Various rumors and ugly sayings about you guys could sometimes be heard as well.

The academy and VHA, on the other hand, would still highly rely on you guys in times of need. Your supervisor professor has also been changed. You continue to go on missions and help in the protection of the city and kingdom while undertaking your education in the academy. Now, you are juniors. With the upcoming Third Generation rookies, you will be assigned or be asked to help guide them as student assistant or leader of their groups. Due to your time in the academy, you are obviously more experienced and knowledgeable about the academy and the city (basically things in the lore that your characters will already know about unless specified otherwise, that third generation probably won’t know since they’re new). You are stronger and more powerful, having engaged in battles with your superpowers for a long time already.

From the original seven, there are only three of you left, but you would continue your stay in the academy to become professional hunters.

Teachers/Faculties:

As a teacher in this academy, you may be teaching any subject of your liking. Regardless of the subject you teach, regular math or some training battle class, you’d also be expected to be skilled in combat, or at least have knowledge and some experience over it. Unlike the OtherWorlders, you come from this world, and is the only world you know of. There is not yet a case when an Otherworlder becomes a teacher him or herself. As a teacher, you are responsible in teaching your classes, and also become a supervisor to the groups you are assigned to.

Teachers tend to know more about the issues that the academy is secretly facing that the students are not yet aware about. They are often required to go on “faculty meeting” when teachers gather together, much like any school, and discuss various problems and plans. There are 3 teachers who were also there in the Fangen Theater Incident. (But it’s entirely optional if you want to be one of them.) For the roleplay, I am not going to list out all the “issues” that the academy has yet here in the lore. However, you all will learn it before the students will, as you will probably be able to tell when the roleplay begins.

For field trips and shadow missions, you’ll be leading the student groups and responsible for their safety as their main supervisor.

Regular students:

Regular students who are not Otherworlders but are natives to Praeces and this world in general are also welcome to be a part of the roleplay, but their roles may be optional since the focus of the roleplay will be on the Otherworlders. However, depending on the story goes, your “screen-time” can become more apparent, for example, your character may force yourself to act alongside the Otherworlders, befriending them, or you may have learned something about the academy that the Otherworlders must now rely on you for information. A secret informant? A secret spy? There may be more to just being a “regular student.” If you are a regular student, you may also be of another species--a were-creature, a fae, fairy, etc. This role is not really necessary for the roleplay, but welcome to include.

Outside the Academy:

The Monsters:

While monsters themselves are sort into multiple levels, they are generally divided into 2 types: Poex and Faex. The monsters range in shape and sizes---some may take the shape of beasts while others may appear human. Similarly, based on their appearance and designs, they also have their own attack styles and powers. On the other hand, these monsters lack intelligence, at least in the idea that they seem to not be able to communicate with any other species and humans, and seem to blindly attack and destroy any humans and anything in their way. They are capable of both killing and eating humans and smaller animals/creatures, and deem anything other than themselves as prey or enemy. The only “intelligence” they’re capable of, perhaps, are their instincts. They know how to put up a fair fight with you, and if they’re more in danger or at an advantage. They’ll run away if they’re seriously wounded to focus on their survival, and they can team up together in battles. Poex and Faex understand each other like they share their own languages.

Poex is the general monsters you will be facing more often. They are divided into five levels casually labeled as A,B,C,D, and E, with E being the most powerful level that is still in the range of Poex. The higher level they are, the larger and more advanced they appear to be, with greater destructive powers and dangerous potentials. Similarly, the higher the level, the rarer they will be found. Usually, the ones attacking the city are low levels in the range of A to C.

Poex seems to obey and follow the “cries” of Faex, which will be another type of monsters entirely that will be a lot more gigantic in size and obviously more overwhelming. They are significantly gianter and more dangerous, and seems to take the role of “leader” or “commander” towards Poex. They are divided into 3 levels: X, Y, and Z. The Z being, well, the ultimate boss. Faex pops out much more rarely and Z is as rare as it can be considered a legend if not for a couple historical records of its appearance. Overall, even if they do appear, they are generally regarded as the X level. Their levels are categorized by specific analyzers who work as background support in the Vehemen Hunter Association.

Lux:
After defeating the monsters, their bodies will vanish and a small, shining piece of rock will be left behind. The rock seems to be made of the same earthly material as a diamond, but even denser. It radiates a soft, dull glow by itself and it does not reflect light. These “rocks” will be called as Lux. After defeating the monsters, the Lux is to be collected and given to the Vehemen Hunter Association or the academy if you’ve killed one as a student. That’s the rule, anyway. They would be using the Lux to analyze further about the monsters and ways to combat it. Each level and type of monsters give off a slightly different type of Lux, ranging in its size, color, and density.

(Feel free to mock on how anything related to monsters end with an x. Truth is I’m just getting lazier with names.)

Vehemen Hunter Association:

The organization, founded by Vlakyle Falden, is an organization with the major purpose of purging the monsters. Professional hunters and huntresses work for this organization, and are ranked differently based on their experiences and achievements within the organization. There are already hundreds of professional hunters that exist in this world already, but not all gathered here in Praeces. Each country outside of Praeces also have a mini HQ for VHA, and many hunters will work there in different countries to safeguard and battle against monsters that many times may appear there as well. However, there will only be one Vehemen Academy located here in Praeces. Monsters, after all, appear most in this kingdom as the place where monsters originate from. Due to this, the chance of giant cracks forming in the skies in the country may be fewer but still exist. International hunters will play a less emphasis in this roleplay, so you can spend less attention to this detail.

There are five ranks to the hunter/huntresses: Grass, Dandelion, Daisy, Lily, and Rose, with Rose being the most advanced and experienced, top hunters within the academy. After you graduate and apply to be a professional hunter, you are still a Grass Rank and you get the least salary. Depending on how quickly you display your achievements, you may rank up fairly fast.

Hunter and huntresses are not the only people who make up the organization. Obviously, there’s still a lot of support roles who aid in the background, either doing all the paper-works, or be providing updates on current mission situations, analyzing progress and monsters and help determine what level the monsters are and what type of hunter/huntresses should be assigned to deal with them. They are not required to have powers but are skilled in battling in one way or another whether it’s just through weapons or not, mainly for self-defense.

Faciete - The Dark Organization:

Not too much is known about this illegal, dark organization except that they have the purpose of disrupting the peace and order of the kingdom. Due to so, they encourage monsters to aid in the city’s destruction, but they are not safe from the monsters’ attacks as well. In other words, Poex and Faex are common enemies that VHA and Faciete share, but Faciete also uses them to their advantage in ruining the city and creating chaos. They are suspected to be the ones truly behind the Fangen Theater incident, but there are not enough evidence to prove so.

Similar to hunter/huntresses, members of Faciete also have supernatural powers that they have been using and are familiar with, making them formidable foes. They are first introduced a couple years after the Vahemen Academy is built as they had tried to infiltrate the academy to bring it down and murder the school principal. When asked to identify themselves and voiced their purpose, they called themselves the Faciete with their intention to “bring the world back to how it was supposed to be.” No one yet knows what that actually means.

Recently, their illegal activities had increased in stealing Lux and gathering an increasing amount of it themselves. It is unclear as to what purpose they have and what they want to do with it.

SCIENCE
Professor: Mitra

*NEW*
Technology and The Barrier

Supernatural powers come from magic, and magic is a force that exists all around the world of Lumen. Like the air we breathe, it is what we live with and live in. Some people may be born with the gift of being able to control this force within them or around them, or some people may be born naturally lacking the ability to utilize this force. This is also why training exists so people can be able to coexist with magic and use it to their advantage.

In such a world that is heavily dependent on magic, the advantages of having an advanced technology thus became slower to be recognized than the amount of effort people put into magic and supernatural power research. After all, people had originally lived on the belief that magic and supernatural powers alone can solve pretty much every problem that exists. Nonetheless, science/technology is still a popular subject that many people invest themselves into, believing that holding knowledge over it will be useful. With it we also had our first creation of artificial intelligence and robots, though at that time, none were as advanced as Professor Mitra. However, the importance of having an advanced technology would soon be recognized when Lumen began to be invaded by Poex and Faex alike. This is because people recognized that magic alone cannot create a barrier strong and powerful enough to defend themselves against the monsters’ invasion.

For people in Lumen, barriers could not work just by creating an invisible magic wall around each country. This is because these monsters could appear anywhere-–literally anywhere—and their appearances could be completely unpredictable. It is not that they reside in particular areas of the world and therefore people could prepare beforehand the directions they would come from and take early measures. It is said that they literally just cross realms–the realm they come from still being investigated–and can spontaneously appear anywhere. Meaning, they could've been as likely to pop up in this classroom right now as they are in some distant country. It is completely spontaneous.

Thus, in order to create an efficient barrier to block these monsters from entry, people realized that the best method is to create a pocket space that covers the entire country. Praesces, our country, is the one who came up with this idea. We live without recognizing that we are actually coexisting with a pocket space. We are not a part of that pocket space, but if a Poex is to seek entry, it’d be trapped in that space instead of entering Lumen directly. The Poex then would have two options–to continue to reside in that pocket space, or to return to whatever realm they come from. It is an interesting method that essentially works like a barrier in preventing the monsters from entering Lumen directly.

However, to create such a gigantic pocket space that can work as a magic barrier requires an incredible amount of power and ability to control and utilize magic. Thus powers cannot be attained by people alone, especially if it is to last for years to infinity, as long as the countries exist. No matter how great and powerful the people may be, it is not enough. This is when the importance of advanced technology finally got recognized. By combining science and technology with magic, magic can be absorbed automatically from nature then amplified and strengthened to create this type of powerful barrier without any need for human assistance. After Praesces invented this technology, it was shared with other countries in return for peace. For the years onwards, this becomes how we’ve been able to defend ourselves from these monsters’ attacks.

Nonetheless, the barriers don’t always work 100% efficiently all the time. The barriers weaken time to time and vary region to region, and sometimes powerful Poex or Faex can slip through. That is why it is still incredibly important to train hunters to fight against these monsters whenever they manage to gain entry into Lumen. Ways to strengthen the barriers even more are still being investigated. In the meantime, it is the hunters’ jobs–and the otherworlders–to help defend this country, if not this world.

The Monsters

There are two types of monsters that invade Lumen - divided into Poex and Faex. They are divided into five levels casually labeled as A, B, C, D, and E, with E being the most powerful level that is still in the range of Poex. The higher level they are, the larger and more advanced they appear to be, with greater destructive powers and dangerous potentials. Similarly, the higher the level, the rarer they will be found. Usually, the ones attacking the city are low levels in the range of A to C.

Poex seems to obey and follow the “cries” of Faex, which is another type of monsters entirely that is a lot more gigantic in size and obviously more overwhelming. They are significantly more gigantic and more dangerous, and seem to take the role of “leader” or “commander” towards Poex. They are divided into 3 levels: X, Y, and Z. The Z is most commonly perceived as the ultimate boss. Faex pops out much more rarely and Z is as rare as it can be considered a legend, if not for a couple of historical records of its appearance. Overall, even if they do appear, they are generally regarded as the X level. Their levels are categorized by specific analyzers who work as background support in the Vehemen Hunter Association.

Usually, bestial monsters have stronger physical powers and brutal strength, but less magical or supernatural abilities. To be more specific, their supernatural abilities are either less complex, or are used for more defense than offense. They base themselves on lesser intelligence and more so instincts, act more as animals or any types of wild creatures. Most Bestial Poex fight through brutal strength, relying on pure dominating forces.

Bestial monsters are therefore more restrictedly Earth-based. They can take on basic or twisted forms of reptiles, mammals--winged or not, even insects or plants, for example.

On the other hand, Magus is the type of Poex/Faex that has been deemed as more dangerous. They have higher intelligence than Bestial monsters, meaning they are capable of thinking. Of course, it is in no way comparable to our level of intelligence, but they’re witty and sometimes make a battle harder to handle than it should. Unlike Bestial monsters, they are not as powerful physically but are fluent users of supernatural abilities and magical powers. They’re known for their abilities to manipulate humans, for example, illusions or hallucinations is a technique that a lot of them are capable of creating. Their intelligence and magical powers are used to make up for their physical weaknesses and lack of brutal offense skills. However, that is not to say they do not know how to fight, or if they have weak defense. Many of them utilize their supernatural abilities to create different kinds of self-protection methods. Either way, they are more complicated than Bestial in many ways. For now, they’re usually the Spirits, the Undead, or Golems that people come across. Magus may sometimes take on a more human-shaped appearance, but don’t be fooled because they are in no way similar.

When fighting Poex, it is easier to categorize a monster on whether they’re Bestial-based or Magus-based. However, sometimes the line is blurred. Many Faex has been identified as a mix of both, monsters who hold both extreme brutal powers and also advanced supernatural abilities. However, they’re rare to come upon. As freshmen, they do not need to worry about coming across them.

In fact, the type of Poex that is most common to be faced will most likely be Bestial ones, which make up for 70% of low level (A-C) Poex. Magus ones are smart enough to know not to bother human civilizations without any reason, so they usually keep their peace for their own good.

Basic World History

The world of Lumen closely resembles the world of Ningen—in other words, the world from which the Otherworlders came from. However, the Kingdom of Praeces, this continent between Eveiland and Dazenfall did not exist in Ningen.

Praeces was first discovered by a Angulan explorer in 1655. Over the next three decades, Skeilander settlers populated the new continent. The Dazenfall Slave Trade had been going on in North Eveiland and Skeiland for the past century, and Dazenfaller slaves were naturally imported into Praeces as well. Due to a corrupt government in Angula, a country in Skeiland, the Praeces Revolutionary War began in 1670, until its independence was recognized in 1675. In the 1680s, magic, or abilities, began to manifest in about 30% of the Dazenfaller population in Praeces. These people were initially viewed as devils, but over the years, they helped the people of Praeces to avoid natural disasters, and some had healing abilities that far exceeded what medicine at the time could do. Over time, they began to be viewed as god sent beings instead. Many Dazenfallers were thus put into positions of power, and slave trade gradually slowed within Praeces until it ended in early 1700s. Between 1687 and 1728, Dazenfall colonies began to declare their independence.

Those from other continents only began to manifest their abilities about a decade after Dazenfallers did. In 1728, Praeces entered war with numerous Dazenfall countries, and in 1731, claimed them as Praeces territory. Despite their supposed divinity just several decades ago, the war led to apparent racism toward Dazenfallers in Praeces. It wasn't until 1958 that Dazenfall countries reclaimed their independence, partly thanks to the increased wealth of the continent as a whole after the discovery of abundant gold mines in Dazenfall. It's also worth noting that due to abilities replacing the need for technology and medicine, advances in those areas slowed in most of the world. Studies into traditional technology and medicine only picked up again approximately two centuries ago.

A few years after abilities first appeared, crime rate surged significantly. Just as there were people who did good with their abilities, there were people who saw it as an opportunity to further their own ends. For a long time, these criminals ran amok because there was no way to control people with abilities. In 1741, the Specialized Supernatural Abilities Troop, or the SSAT, was formed by the Praeces government to deal with criminals with abilities. Naturally, the SSAT was comprised of those with abilities as well. Still, containment of these criminals was met with difficulties. And so in 1755, a drug named Null was developed. When injected, it temporarily shuts down an individual's abilities. Unfortunately, the SSAT and the upper-class who'd managed to get their hands on the drugs abused their power. Innocent people who had abilities were captured, some as criminals and some for more... unsavory reasons. It was only in 1815 that Null became strictly illegal for those other than authorized personnel.

Professor Eiichi then mentioned the about the appearance of Poex twenty years ago, the establishment of the academy, how the VHA quickly absorbed the SSAT, the Grim Night, the appearance of the First Generation Otherworlders and the Miracle that they brought, then the appearance of Second Generations - which are provided in their textbook located on the Lore page.

It is currently the year 2472, with the Otherworlders' appearance as Third Generations.
