HELLA QUEER
Vampires are an old race filled with mystery and grace. It is unknown as to when the first vampires walked this earth because there are stories of pale people with superhuman abilities written on the Egyptian walls. But it is known that these people are forces to be reckoned with. They have superhuman strength, agility, hearing, sight, and smell. With all of these senses heightened, the only one that lacks is taste. Vampires cannot taste anything that isn't blood. Weather it be animal or human, it is the only thing a vampire can live off of. Each vampire, along with their heightened abilities, has a power only they can harness. Some can manipulate water, others can manipulate minds. It all depends on the vampire.
There are three types of vampire. The most common one being a bitten or "created". (More influential vampire families will use the word created rather than bitten because it has a better connotation) Bitten vampires are people who were once human and then were bitten by another vampire and infected with the venom. Few humans survive the venom of a vampire bite and those who do, become a vampire. The second type of vampire, which is not as common but still common enough, is the pure vampire. A pure vampire is one born from two vampiric parents. They were never a human and were born with the thirst for blood. These vampires are most common among the rich families. They try to keep the bloodline pure. However it is extremely hard to conceive a purely vampiric child. The last type of vampire, and the most rare of all, is a half human vampire. These vampires can live off both human food and blood. They have heightened speed and agility but their senses remain human. They also posses a vampiric power. These vampires can live just as long as any other vampire but they tend to find themselves in sticky situations with prejudiced vampires. It is extremely frowned upon to create a half vampire half human child so these children are rare and when they are born, they tend to be kept away from the outside world.
It is not uncommon for a vampire to live to be hundreds of years old. The oldest recorded vampire was 1,000 years old. The most common life span of a vampire is between 500 and 600 years old. Depending on type of vampire, it will reach maturity at a different rate. For example, a child who is bitten and becomes a vampire, will start aging quicker and within 5 years of being bit, they are fully grown and will stop aging. But an adult who is bitten will age like a normal human for 3 years before the aging process will stop. Pure vampires age like a human would until they turn 25 years old and then the aging process stops. A half human half vampire, will quickly age up and within 7 years of birth will be fully grown. A vampire is considered a "Young adult" once they reach their 100th year as a vampire. (The human years before that do not count). When a vampire is first bit, they are the strongest they will ever be. The common term for these vampires are "newborns" and they are terrifying. They are blood thirsty, strong, and not afraid of anything. A pure vampire or a half human half vampire will never feel this rush of power ever in their life span. Because they are born with these abilities, they grow and and understand their powers and are able to control them much better than bitten vampires.
There are many legends about things that repel vampires but most of them are untrue. Garlic doesn't work and neither does holy water. Crosses don't work either. In fact, many vampires adorn themselves with crosses. It is quite a fashion statement within the community. A vampire can only be killed with a steak through the heart, beheading, or burning alive. Vampires do not turn to dust in the sun however they become very weak in direct sunlight. If a vampire has to go out in the day, they will lather in sunscreen and wear all black and large hoods or hats to hide their skin from the sun. Vampires are nocturnal creatures and prefer the night.
Family and Social status are very important to vampires. Based on the family, it will either have a Matriarch or a Patriarch that is the head of the family and whatever this person says goes, no matter what. There are many very influential vampire families in all parts of the world and in vampiric society. Knowing your place in the social hierarchy is crucial. If your family doesn't have money, fame, or renown, then you better keep your mouth shut and just do as your're told because those families will eat you up and spit you out before you can even finish your sentence.
