It's so big...

There's so, so much of it we haven't explored. If you wake up, look out your window, and stare into the direction of the ocean you'll see nothing but a vast mixture of blue, and even more blue. That's where they are. That's where sirens are. They are simply waiting to lure you into the ocean. And this has happened to our population for quite a while. It's always been a problem since Urchin Harbor was founded. So listen closely.

Sirens are real.

And they chose this town to select victims from.

  Urchin Harbor is a medium-sized seaside town that was founded in 1803. It is located along Central America, on an island that was seemingly raised by magic. The town contours the island almost perfectly and has a stable economy that's based off of a couple of professions.
  Fishing
  Fishing is the profession of catching fish and bringing them in to supply food. There are plenty of fish, and overfishing isn't even remotely a concern due to the rate the fish reproduce.
  
  Whaling
  Whaling is the profession of catching whales. This requires going out to sea by a boat and hauling in a whale for its blubber, oil, and hide. This job is usually occupied by the toughest sailors.
  
  Siren Hunting
  Um...HA! Do you really think you can make a living hunting sirens? I'll be damned if you can even catch one dead!

  Sirens are known as the witches of the sea. Sure, that's one way to refer to these creatures. They are incapable of feeling love. The only emotion they have is lust. Lust for a human they can find, drag to the depths, and do whatever they intend to do with the human being. Possibly either kill them or turn them into a siren by taking the human's soul.
  Powerful Lungs - Sirens can hold vast quantities of air in their lungs, rendering them capable of holding their breath for five hours.
  Echolocation - The sea isn't always brightly lit. They are capable of using their voice to find their way around the area.
  Water Manipulation - Sirens are capable of flinging quantities of water in the direction of someone while they are under the water. This is to drag humans in once they are within range or for clearing seaweed. This water manipulation does not function above water, or too close to the surface.
  Sixth Sense - We think it has something to do with bioelectricity, but sirens can see when a human has entered the water.

  Of course, not all sirens are created equal. Sometimes, attempting to transfer the siren's curse to another human will be incomplete, resulting in the creation of two sirens. These sirens are capable of transforming into a human when on land, and into a siren when in water. These sirens do not possess the ability of seeking out humans that sirens possess, but possess all other traits. Siren shifters, however, are dependent on water and will die if they are taken out of water for too long. They have a second membrane over their skin that prevents it from drying out, but once the membrane dries then the siren shifter is exposed to the elements and can die unless they are placed in water.
